Duke of Cleveland in Hartlepool

It was my first time eating at The Duke of Cleveland it was a warm (lovely open fire), friendly atmosphere 😊 service was great, food was delicious even got a takeaway fish for my husband aswell 🤗. I'm definitely going to visit again soon .Local family from Hartlepool 😊

Today we decided to chance a drizzly wander along the Headland, a baby and toddler in tow all wrapped up. The drizzle turned into a downpour and not only did the owners let us in when they were closed, they warmed us up with a cuppa and even offered to give one of us a lift to our car to bring it round. They were so friendly to our little ones too. I didn't realise they have weekly maintenance days to ensure it's always immaculate. I've eaten here a few times for Sunday lunch and the food is delicious. How lovely the owners are has pretty much guaranteed our custom for the future too. Proper hospitality ❤️

Fabulous meal with excellent service. Great value for money and generous portions. Quiet as it was a Wednesday evening but still lovely and cozy.Great gluten free options too.

Had a dinner with my family and friends, and really had a wonderful time. The food was scrumptous-worth the money. The place was so nice, we were like in an old English village. did not expect to find a place like this in the middle of the city. Will definitely be one of our favourite resto to dine- in with family and friends, or even an intimate dinner with my wife.👍👍👍

Food was excellent we really enjoyed our dinner last night. My children were able to eat a lot. The desserts are also very yummy. The place has a good ambience and the staff and owners are so friendly and accommodating. Prices of food are reasonable for me. I highly recommend this resto bar 👍🏼😊

Had a lovely couple of hours out,lovely everything,the staff very nice and polite made us feel comfortable straight away, food perfect prices very fair,I highly recommend.

Nothing special if I'm honest. Food was ok a little pricey if anything for what I received as my meal was especially nice just very average. My first time being there and I'm unlikely to ever return. Service was slow and it's not like the place was particularly busy. Staff were friendly however.

This was our 1st visit to the Duke Of Cleveland. We stopped In for a bite to eat and a hot drink to warm up after our bitterly cold winter walk. The service was less than delightful with a waitress that had a terrible attitude on her and anything we asked for seemed like she had to go out of her way and beyond to complete our request. We all had a hot chocolate, which left us less than impressed as it tasted more like hot water with a hint of cocoa. When asked if she could bring us some extra sugar, we were grunted at with a "you've already got sugar" response as she pointed to the table (we had 1 sachet) We then asked if we could possibly have some extra milk (to make the hot chocolate a little more palatable) 4 Hours later we are still waiting for said milk. Food was ordered, and aprox 50 minutes later we were still waiting for 3 bowls of chips and a pizza. When enquired about how much longer the food was going to take as it was closely reaching the hour mark since we had ordered, the waitress snapped heavily with a response of... "No it hasn't! " 😲 I felt like I was having my head bit off by a grumpy teenager. The food did follow shortly after, which was tasty and hot if i am to be honest. By this time we all felt we'de had our throats cut as our stomach's grumbled with hunger. When getting ready to leave, I left my partner to deal with the pleasure of approaching said waitress and her charming demeanour to finalise our bill. I think our only pleasurable experience of our visit was the warm fire that roasted the room up and our cold little bodies. Needless to say, we will not be returning for a second visit.

Great place to have a few drinks with family. Bonus it is dog friendly! We went last week with 3 dogs, 9 adults, 2 young people and 2 children after a walk and staff were friendly, accommodated us in one area, on the spur of the moment, and we had hot and cold drinks, all at reasonable prices. Other people were eating there and the food looked and smelt good. We would definitely recommend and go back there.

Called in for a Sunday dinner , there where a few available tables, over all it was a present experience, but and there is a but , we ordered the beef for our Sunday lunch and on the menu it states Cooked to your liking , so we asked for rare , we got tough as old boots beef , why put that on the menu and serve tuff as old boots beef , doesn't the chef try it before serving the beef ,disappointed to be honest, I've heard good things about this place

Called in one early evening last week, ordered Haddock&Chips, a Chicken Royal and a Salmon meal. All Excellent along with puddings. Good pint of Trophy beer, good value, great service. Bit early for atmosphere. We'll be back soon. Called back in today for Sunday lunch but sadly disappointed. Beef was stringy and meal was cold, off a cold plate. A real shame because otherwise very tasty. Our dog enjoyed the beef and plenty of it. We'll be back though.

Visited numerous times, never had a bad experience food is freshly cooked and always piping hot, great decor and atmosphere

Came here for a 50th & pre ordered good to make it easy. When everyone was eventually served my meal & one other were missing. The sigh and eye roll from the bloke serving when I said I had not got my food did not go unnoticed. I waited patiently until my food was cooked (by which point everyone else had finished) I must say that when it came, the fish was exceptional but the lack of apology and the fact that I then had to pay the full amount seemed a little unfair to me. Mistakes happen but it's how you deal with them - rolling your eyes (like it was my fault!), forgetting to apologise and not even offering a free drink whilst I patiently waited - pretty poor tbh

Very quiet dining room, lovely wood burning stove. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Good was utterly amazing - freshly cooked, so don't expect it on the table in 5 minutes. Staff apologised for the wait, but honestly I'd much rather wait 20 mins and get freshly cooked hot food! Pork belly was delicious, Parmo very good, and homemade chips were just stunning. Will definitely be back.

Has a nice log fire to keep the room warm, especially on these cold nights. It's reasonably priced as well.

I attended a wedding there. It's an historic great place with many levels so if you are thinking of booking it for an event there is no lift ok. Seemed to wait ages to get served with drinks over issues with pumps but this wasn't the main bar on the ground floor. As i said there are many levels to this place with many bars. I would recommend a visit. Clean, tidy, well decorated. Nice.

Beautiful venue with vibrant bar staff. Elysha deserves a pay rise! Can't recommend this pub enough. Steaks cooked to perfection and the cognac so smooth. I will visit again as soon as I can.

I went to The Duke of Cleveland with a friend, I had haddock and chips and my mate had a fried chicken starter. The fish and chips were delicious, a good size portion, a nice crispy batter, chips were nice. My mate enjoyed his chicken. Staff were friendly, dining area was clean and comfortable. The toilets were clean and tidy. Enjoyable meal , would recommend.

First time we've been in and I can only say what we found. Very pleasant young lady at the bar who showed us to our table. She took our drinks order and brought them to the table. Plenty time to order and I can say, the food was superb. 4 starters, 4 mains, two double gin and tonics and 2 pints of Birra moretti. All served with a smile and everything was delicious. Approx £25 per person, very good value, good sized portions. Can't do better than that Needless to say, we'll be back.

Highly recommend, not only did they do an exceptional job of catering to our party of 19 people, everyone’s food came out hot and at the same time. I personally don’t recall ever eating a better cottage pie. We are a big family and have our fair share of fuss pots, no one had a bad word to say. Booked a table for Saturday of Tall Ships weekend for myself, partner & friends visiting from Scotland. Warm welcome, delicious food & great service! We wanted to eat locally & glad we did!

Had a meal last night after a day at the Tall Ships, service and food was amazing. Large portions, very tasty and all of our party were impressed! My daughter can be fussy but commented ‘the pizza was better than great, never had a pizza so good’ which believe me is very high praise. We’ll definitely be back soon.

The scampi and homemade chips with minted peas at Duke of Cleveland pub in the Headland in Hartlepool were absolutely lovely. The staff were professional and polite, making me feel like a VIP. The toilets were clean, and the decor and atmosphere were great. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area!

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch at The Duke of Cleveland today; a lovely venue. Too big for me, so I had to get the rest to takeaway (not wasting any of it!!). The service was brilliant, in spite of it being really busy, and compliments to the chef.

We visited as a family with 2 children on a very cold grey day in May. We had previously had food in the beer garden and was looking forward to eating inside. The table service was excellent and the choice of food on the menu was good although I would have liked to have seen a more varied healthy menu. There was a whole page taken up with Parmesan. We choose chicken supreme with mushroom sauce. The chicken was very tender but sadly not many mushrooms in the watery sauce. The children had pizza which they enjoyed. The whole experience was spoilt by the lack of heating in the resturant and the doors open due to Covid. It was warmer outside than inside

Fantastic service, great food and a fantastic selection of drinks. what more can you ask for. I have ate here a number of times, Sunday lunches are amazing, weekday menu is great and I've also sampled their takeaway menu over lockdown which was also restaurant quality to your door. Highly recommend trying the pizzas, parmos, ad burgers (in that order). for sides, they do some amazing Mac & Cheese bites with bacon and their sweet potato fries are perfect both eating in and taking away (most places they end up soggy by the time you get them home).

Been here a few times. It has recently been took over and is working hard to build up an amazing reputation! And fair to say it is working. The food is amazing we visited pre covid lockdown and had a steak. Reasonable priced and served with a jug of water as well with a set waitress to serve us throughout. We have just been last weekend eating outdoors but this time we had cocktails! The parmo was unbelievable. Fresh thick chicken with homemade skinny fries! The cocktails where 2 for £12 and you could taste the alcohol which was a massive plus! The night we came it was fully booked but the staff where easy to get a hold of and the food came out at a reasonable time. David and his team have the Duke perfect! Will definitely be back!

Spread the word that the Duke is delivering the goods. Magic Sunday roasts. If you pick the two meat type you had better have a massive appetite because there’s just so much. One meat version is almost enough for two as it is. Huge Yorkies and really good gravy. All lovely and fresh.

Had an amazing Sunday Roast takeaway today from The Duke of Cleveland. The whole meal tasted sensational, and was served with seasoned vegetables. I’ve also had a pizza collection on Friday, and the staff were telling me how they made the dough on site too - I found that fantastic. Great job and nice to see a business continuing in lockdown too. Thank you!

Went for a Sunday Dinner and stayed for live music and cocktails. Amazing atmosphere and incredible food and drink. Met the head chef and mixologist both incredibly knowledgable gents who are obviously so passionate about their craft. Highly recommended, the quality of food and service that I would expect in London but for the prices I’m used to paying in the North!

Ordered 2 pizzas for collection yesterday as part of a trial they were doing. Ordered the meat feast and texas bbq. Both pizzas were hot and totally flavoursome! No greasy aftertaste! All the flavours complimented each other. Will definitely order from again.
