Well worth a visit. Castle is like a tardis with lots of exhibits on display. A must if you are of Maclean decent. If your lucky you may even get to met the chief. Shop and tearoom good place to refuel and get a keep sake. Staff both friendly and knowledgeable. View from the top of the Castle is fantastic.

After a fantastic visit to Duart Castle we were looking forward to a warming lunch on a rainy day. On entering we were met with a warm welcome in the small gift shop. However, the welcome stopped there. A confusing mix of information and a lack of prices for even the small range on offer was not helped by a surly server. Although we were the only customers he seemed to feel that we were taking too long and an order was demanded. His unfortunate manner continued with no verbal response to our order or questions. Once the food was provided the problems continued. The bowls of soup provided were not full (despite ordering the "full" bowl not the half bowl) and you had to help yourself to the bread (although the menu stated a roll). In fact we were instructed bruskly "only one slice of bread and to use the tongs". The quiche did state on the board in small print that it would take time to prepare, but the soup was served straight away. So we were not able to eat together. Had the food been delicious all might have been forgiven. Unfortunately this was not the case. The soup was watery, the bread bland and the quiche when it did arrive was partially uncooked. The small salad on the side of the quiche was lovely. As gluttons for punishement (or is it just gluttons) we decide to try for cakes and coffee. The service was no better with no communication on whether we should wait for our order or if it would be brought to the table. After hanging around uncertainly we decided to sit down but were brusquely recalled to collect our coffees. The cakes were not bad but the coffee was bitter and unpleasant. We received no eye contact nor even a smile or pleasant comment through out our interactions. Hopefully the server will find a job where he can be happier in his work soon! To top off the experience it would appear that the request to check for a particular allergen was not fully complied with. Luckily the reaction to it was not a serious one. Back to the gift shop and the mood lifted with a lovely smile and excellent customer service!

My friends and I liked it so much here, we came back, twice! We received a very warm and friendly welcome each time, and the food was very tasty, and we thought very good value for money. On our second visit, my silly question was answered without even the hint of a sigh (I asked what the soups were, when they were clearly marked, right in front of me!). What is particularly nice about this place is that you can come here without having to pay to go in the Castle (although the Castle is definitely worth a visit - but that's another story!)

Don’t know what the last review was on about, It put us off coming on Sunday 😡 but we thought we’d come today to check it out for ourselves. So glad we did. Full bowl of soup and a roll £4 If you only want half a bowl which many of us only need with a roll £2.50 can’t complain at all. Didn’t see Anything over £7. 95 just a few item bit more expensive ,which for this day and age I call very reasonable not Extortionate what so every. So please don’t stay away because of that last review go and see for yourself. Can eat outside with your dogs as well. They even have water outside for your dog.

A tiny selection of mostly cheese toasties and one other ingredient ie tomato, chutney or ham. This came served with an equally tiny salad made of only lettuce leaves and some cucumber. This cost us £7.50 per toastie! For our children, it was even less cost effective. HALF a sandwich and again a tiny salad with some dressing on it (I don't know many under 8 year olds who would eat that - some nice crisps or chips would be much more child friendly ) and a carton of juice for £4.50. The tea room really doesn't represent value for money. The staff were friendly but they need to re-think what they are providing for hungry customers and look at their pricing not just profit.

After visiting the castle, we decided to have some lunch at the cafe. We choose the bacon, brie and onion chutney toasties with half a bowl of soup (carrot & coriander). The soup was delicious and half a bowl was definitely not small! The toasties were the best I've eaten in a long time, the bread and the onion chutney made them so tasty. The room was nice and warm with simple decor. Definitely recommend a trip up there and there is a little shop attached to it to browse.

My husband apologises for writing a review which was meant for Wetherspoon's in Dundee. He doesn't know how it got transferred to Duart's Castle, the only thing we think that occurred was we had been at Duart's Castle on Mull, on 17 th August but didn't get round because the castle was closing and we were short of time for the ferry. Admission time. Only went to Duart today to use the tea room. This was to get out of the rain. We have visited the castle and the tea rooms before and the folks there are always warm and welcoming. On this occasion, the tea room was short of water, because there has been so little rain lately, and their water source is rain dependent. Even under these conditions, where the food and drinks had to be served in and on cardboard, the lads and lasses were all working their so ks off to give great service. The place was rammed, owing g to the weather, but apart from timing difficulties, they all pulled together to keep the ship afloat. Good food and good service. The homemade steak pie was excellent. The bar had been converted into a restaurant since we were last there. The revamped decor and lighting were a bit stark and lacking the ambience of the old bar. The prices were roughly in line with Portavadie Marina and both highlight their local suppliers, but the Kames has a pub grub feel.
