We ate at the Kilcamb Lodge during a week on holiday in Ardgour and we were looking forward to it both for the cuisine and the experience but both slightly disappointed to be honest. The setting of the Kilcamb Lodge is gorgeous with lovely views over the loch and surrounding hills. The hotel itself also made a fine first impression with well cared for grounds and some comfortable lounges which we could see on our way in. The dining room, however, was rather on the small side and quite dark which was not how it came across on the website and we felt a little hemmed in on our table for two. The service was friendly and professional, however, and they didn't appear to be too distracted by hosting a wedding in the main dining room at the same time. The food was good but my seafood starter didn't come with the implements required to remove shells which annoyed my partner and so, to an extent, annoyed me! My blade of beef was particularly well presented and delicious, however, and the venison dish was also deemed to be very good. Kilcamb Lodge offers high-end dishes at an accompanying high-end price but we felt the ambience was a little lacking and devoid of any real personal touches. It might have been nice, for example, if we had been offered to be served coffee in the guest lounge after dinner. We almost felt a little nonplussed when, not much more than 90 minutes after we arrived, we were heading back to Ardgour once more!

We sailed the length of Loch Sunart and contacted the Driftwood Brasserie by phone. They directed us to a good mooring (free for diners) and were able to confirm that it was rated above our tonnage. They made us very welcome. The service, food and the setting were excellent, and the imaginative cuisine was outstanding. A really memorable evening, and good value. We hope to come again.

The site is magic, with fabulous view on the Loch... First deception : you enter in the dinner room. It's small and with too many tables. There is only a small window with view on the Loch, the other tables are near the wall. Service very attentive, smiling and profesional, as you can wait in a restaurant of this category. A starter was clearly outstanding : Crab cake with wasabi and apple sorbet, and an other very good: mussels with creamy sauce. And the mains arrived. So disappointing... The haddock main and a cod main were not really different from those you could eat in every good bistrot or small restaurant on the road, except for the decoration. It was drab and flavourless. We didn't take any dessert after such a defeat. A good selected whisky at the end (slightly overpriced) couldn't compensate this big disappointment.

We had 2 excellent meals in the brasserie - one a thank you present from our family (just 2 of us) and the other farewell dinner and celebrating our daughter’s engagement (6 of us). Both fantastic - thank you and all the staff were so good. Although we holiday up here regularly this was our first visit here. What a find! All dishes were the perfect quantity and SO pretty. I would recommend all the fish and puddings. I am in a wheelchair and it was fine once inside but we had to park close (gravel is very hard to push on) also biggish step.

Had Sunday lunch here to treat ourselves on a wet Sunday, so glad we did! The staff are super, very friendly, attentive and professional. The surroundings to the hotel are stunning and no less so within, most comfortable chairs I have sat on to eat lunch! Our party had a varied selection from the £25 three course menu. Starters included mackerel, tomato & pesto soup and duck terrine. Mains were roast beef, gnocchi and rainbow trout, all were very well presented and beautifully cooked. As for sweets, we sampled Lemon Assiette, which comprised of lemon and ginger cheesecake , lemon jelly and mini lemon meringue. Also sampled chocolate terrine, declared as delicious! Given the quality of the food, the surroundings and the welcome, it really is a no-brainer to treat yourself to a lunch here. We will be back for sure......

My wife and I have dined here on a number of occasions, including a few weeks ago. The food and service are, on the whole, very good. The ambience is lovely, with two sitting rooms with fireplaces operating in winter, in which dining parties are invited to relax in with their menus and drinks prior to moving to the dining area. The mains we have had were savory fish creations, and were excellent, as were the starters. "Savory" seems to be the theme of the chef, judging from these and other items we've had. Unfortunately, on both visits, the creme brulee crust topping of one dessert was a bit burned, marring an otherwise fine food ensemble. An oddity is that the diners seem to be separated into two rooms according to those just there for dinner and those staying at the hotel. Is the implication that there are two classes of diners? I was also put off by whom I took to be the head server suggesting (on our latest visit) that we needed to get on with ordering and our meals because they were busy with other customers. My overall evaluation is that the food and service are very good to excellent, except for bizarre letdowns that we've never experienced in humble hotel-pub restaurants elsewhere in the area.

Had dinner at the Driftwood Brasserie during a stay in Strontian. The hotel is located just on the loch in very neat surroundings. Inside the hotel and brasserie are decorated in line with the local Highlands and the menu reflects the varied seafood sourced locally. Food and service are good - our party had starters and mains (mostly fish including trout, sea bass and cod) which we felt were good without being excellent.

We actually ate in the main Restaurant not the brasserie but there isn't a review option for that - but the food is the same. This was one of the best meals I've ever had and I've been to a few nice restaurants. I don't understand why it is only Michelin commended and not starred - the food we had and its presentation certainly deserved to be. Service was excellent, lovely setting, and we thought it was very reasonably priced for the quality. Cannot praise it highly enough.

I really could not fault the food at this restaurant - one of the best meals we have ever had. Absolutely delicious venison (with haggis, neeps & tatties) and pork belly. And the desserts were quite divine.Unfortunately there was no atmosphere here - we were asked to arrive at either 6.45 or 8pm, but when we sat down at 6.45pm, there were no other diners in the Brasserie for over an hour.None of the staff seemed to be British, and there was confusion about my order (I ordered Fish & Chips not Fizz & Chips, and was presented with a glass of champagne, which they had to take away - shame, I thought they might have just offered it to me anyway!).The waitress was very sweet, but did not seem to know that you serve people and clear away plates, from the side of that person, not leaning across others. She was also too keen to take our dessert order, when we really wanted to sit and wait a while for our main course to digest - I think she came to our table 4 times to ask about desserts.I would like to give this restaurant 5 stars, but service let the place down slightly.

Simply special...the brasserie is a cosy dining area which is just how we like it. Scallops in a starter to die for and some of the finest fresh fish (hake with walnut and stilton crust and sea bass with samphire and shellfish nage) we've had in a while, beautifully presented with really fine accompaniments. The champagne was one of our favourites, from a little independent vineyard we've visited, and the staff were welcoming. What a treat! Thank you for one of the best meals we've had in ages.

I had eaten in the formal dining room of the Kilcamb many years ago and found it not to my liking, so was curious to check out the Brasserie which had received great reviews from friends and family who had been on numerous occasions. We went on a Saturday lunchtime and were the only guests for a while. It took a little time to get anyones attention to seat us, or to acknowledge we were there - she was busy hoovering.Once seated, the waitress provided menus and an explanation of the specials board and the lunch time deal they did - two courses for 20 pounds and three courses for 25 pounds. We chose to share a grilled calamari starter which came on a bed of salad with an olive oil dressing. This was delicious but for nearly 10 pounds I had expected more than three pieces of squid. For mains I had the fish and chips and my dining companion had the pulled beef in a Jack Daniels sauce. The fish and chips were lovely. The piece of hake was prepared with a light coating of batter and was really delicious. The chips were great but a tad overcooked. The home-made tartar sauce was lovely. I felt it could have done with some vegetable (mushy peas) as a small accompaniment as it was deep fried fish and deep fried chips. It needed something to cut through that. The pulled beef was served on a large baguette with chips and home-made coleslaw. Very nice and a large portion.Unfortunately the large main courses left no room for pudding, but we did manage a coffee seated in the lounge. Along with a glass of wine and two cokes, the total bill was 55 pounds which is a little steep for a lunchtime but the food was good. The service was excellent but the music had to be turned down as it was very loud!I will definitely go back as its a great setting by the loch, it has a good menu although please bring back the beef burger and the fish pie options as I understand they were fantastic, and the service was good.

The portions aren't massive but very filling, exactly the right size to allow for a yummy pudding as well! The assiette of Lemon is out of this world, and the specials board offers a variety of fantastic fish dishes. Something for everyone and real quality.

We ate here whilst on holiday in the area, two adults, a teenager and a child. It's a pleasant, small room, part of a very nice looking hotel. They have two menus, one of brasserie food and one of specials. The food was fresh, prettily presented and well-prepared. The bread that arrived was a nice touch. Our fish soup from the specials menu was absolutely delicious, the best my husband and I have had in years, and our main courses were also beautifully cooked and presented. The children chose beer-battered haddock and hand-cut chips, which was a generous (though expensive) portion. The batter was a little over-cooked, but apart from that, they enjoyed it.We were too full for a pudding, but my daughter can always make room for chocolate, though her brownie was a bit dense. More suited to an adult's taste, I think. The waiting staff were friendly but seemed under-trained and amateurish. They need a bit more polish and experience, probably, but also some guidance on the do's and don'ts of small talk in English - and how to serve more unobtrusively. Our exit was not smooth, either. Despite trying several times, the staff member was unable to get a connection for me to pay by debit card. I got the feeling this has happened before, but it was inconvenient and could have got quite embarrassing because the bill was fairly high (well over a hundred pounds) and not many folk carry that much in cash these days. The staff member was happy to try over and over to get a connection, but it was getting late and by a lucky fluke, my husband and I had enough cash between us to pay, plus a tip.All in all, lovely food and though the service was iffy, not enough to spoil the evening.

We showed up with no reservation for a late lunch at the Kilcamb Lodge. The Lodge had been recommended to us for dinner, but we never got around to that…No problem getting a table in the little brasserie … in fact, there was only another table occupied. We both had the fish & chips. Firstly, these were / are the best chips in Scotland. Probably in the United Kingdom. They had to have been “double-fried” as the best chips are. Crispy on the outside, soft inside. And wonderfully chunky. And – how cute – served in a little fryer! And the fish. Yum. And great beer batter (I’ve just had lunch today and already I can feel the juices flowing just remembering this…).No room for pudding!Beautifully presented on a mock-sheet of newspaper. Loved it.So, fantastic presentation, lovely location, very nice restaurant.Oh, and then afterwards my friend started talking to a lady at the bar (the owner?) about the myriad of whiskies behind the bar. After a very knowledgeable five minutes’ chatter, the owner said, “Oh, try these” and poured good measures of two of them!! How good is that? And free! And I ended up buying a bottle of the Caol Ila later in the week (not cheap, but &$(“$ worth it if you like your whisky strong and peaty!).
