Drift is in an amazing location with spectacular views. We had booked brunch for 2 with a seaview but were seated in the middle of the cafe. We ordered 2 All day breakfasts both of which were luke warm. The plates were hot so wonder if they lost heat as the food was stacked? The food itself was nice and we liked the home made beans but there was the tiniest bit of toast to go with it. Having a full breakfast you would normally walk away feeling full, but this really wasn't the case on this occasion. The staff were lovely but didn't ask if we wanted tea or anything else to eat/drink. I have visited for cakes and sat outside on many occasions and would stick with that in the future.

We had an excellent lunch at Drift. The restaurant is accommodated in shipping containers perched on the cliff top just south east of North Berwick. The view to the sea and the bird sanctuary of the Bass Rock is spectacular. Service was very friendly and efficient and the food was excellent. We had a very tasty bouillabaisse with fish, mussels and a crouton with garlic cream followed by a waffle with chicken and maple syrup! Lovely location and good value.

Wanted to try here for ages. Wouldn't be rushing back, food was good but over priced. Staff just put food down and didn't ask if we wanted any sauces, so hard to get anyone's attention we had to go up and ask. Busy place, staff all seemed stressed and rushed off their feet. Kids weren't impressed that beans which came with their sausages were homemade. They just want tinned beans. Strange to go to the effort of homemade baked beans but give them cheap sausages. Just way too over priced to make us want to come back.

There were a few issues with our visit. During the booking process it's not made clear dogs cannot come inside (even tiny, unmuddy pups that quietly sit on one's lap!). In a popular dog-walking area this seems strange for a cafe. Booking requires a non-refundable £5 a head deposit, which is fair enough, but only if they make it clear (not just in small print) what their rules are. Would've been happy to compromise and just eat outside, but we were told, by a rather uninterested older lady (the manager, she implied) that we could only select from the very limited 'outside' menu, said as though this should be obvious. We were also forgotten despite one of the younger servers telling us someone would be outside to take our order and that we could make 'a normal order, just outsde' (their words verbatim) from the normal menu. Not sure what was going on there. The younger staff were actually were nice and clearly were working very hard and this is in no way a criticism of them (I know from experience how hard FOH can be!). In hospitality, awareness of customers travelling over an hour, and efforts to be more accommodating can transform an experience, rather than wasting customers' valuable time off -- but not this one!

Ahead of returning to London we had pre-booked a Sunday breakfast slot (booking is necessary as the place is so busy nowadays it seems). You pay a deposit in advance per person too, I suppose this has been introduced to ensure people don't change their mind later. Got seated in exactly the spot we imagined, the large bay window looking out to sea. Weather was extremely blustery so the waves were dramatic and it all added to the experience. Several all-day breakfasts were ordered and they hit the spot, along with some lattes. Topped off with some cakes (yes, at 10AM, don't judge) which were lovely too. Happy faces all round, we will be back some day.

Pleasantly surprised to see the cafe would be open on New Year's day and so decided to head there for our walk and a bite to eat. The location obviously attracts a lot of tourists and so I can imagine the staff deal with a lot especially on a day like that. When we went in the cafe was full and really busy but the staff could not have been nicer or more friendly. We were greeted straight away, welcomed in, and a table by the window was cleared for us. The food was delicious, coffee great and view spectacular. We spoke with the owner and she made us feel so welcome and clearly had time for us despite being run off their feet. Such a refreshing experience and can't wait to return!

We love a good visit to the Drift, it's a lovely place to have some food and enjoy the amazing views (probably the best in the Borders area when it comes to a food & view combo) The menu is also great, and usually with fresh ingredients. I always loved whatever I had to eat. Unfortunately, the last time we visited a couple of days ago, my mom got food poisoning (or salmonella, hard to say without a test since they are too similar) after having the mushroom omelette. When it first came out, it was quite raw and unusually runny inside, then when sent back, it was 'cooked till firm' in a microwave, which is not great, but it is what it is and we let it go since the place was so busy at the time. The reason I wrote this review was to make the kitchen and management aware that there was an issue there, which caused someone to become unwell. There's at least a week's painful recovery waiting for my mom now, who is at the moment bedridden and vomiting. Nothing else risky or slightly off was ingested since our visit to Drift, and the offset of symptoms were clockwork sadly. Hopefully, there will be more attention paid to the food going out next time, even when it's very busy.

Amazing location with absolutely stunning views of the sea and the beach. Food was nice, made from locally sourced products and the staff were very friendly and the service was quick. I feel like there were a couple of areas of improvement with the food, for example the eggs and salmon was (in my opinion) too heavy on the salmon and not enough poached egg (only one) and the crushed edamame could have been better seasoned to lift them, and perhaps some lemon. However I am nit picking!!! The place really is super and worth a visit!

Excellent birthday brunch in a storage container! Both the Full Scottish and Vegetarian Scottish breakfasts were delicious and beautifully presented (which is rare for a Full Breakfast) and the Mocha with chocolate cube to melt and drizzle was lovely. Double storage containers set up with as much glass as possible to maximise the headland views of Bass Rock and the Firth of Forth is a genius idea. Chatted with the owner and looking to get even more of their own produce on the menu. Menu is confidently short, make the right things well and you don't need to offer everything. Need to book (it was busy mid week at 10:30!) but worth planning ahead for it, also pay deposit for the table which I have no problem with.

I read some reviews of Drift before visiting and, having enjoyed my lunch, I can say the writers were extremely harsh! Have a look at previous reviews and you will discover some entitled whingeing about tables without a sea view, when the entire restaurant has a sea view! There are also gripes about the service, which was good on the day I ate here. As for food, I can recommend the All Day Breakfast. It could be that I was lucky, but I think it's far more likely that there are quite a few people who are determined to find fault with the establishments they visit.

Service fine, atmosphere fine (sat outside) but very disappointed in the coffee. The server in the truck just didn’t know how to prepare a long black, the drink which I specifically asked for. i was served a large cup of watered down espresso which was very watery, even for an americano if that is what the server thought a long black was. I ended up throwing the coffee away after a few sips it was that unpalatable. I don’t blame the server, as it is clear they didn’t know what a long black was. I have been to drift on two occasions. The first time I had a lovely roll and sat outside with the dogs to take in the stunning view. This is the reason I am giving a few stars. The most recent visit we were greeted by rude staff an hour before closing who told us that we couldn't have any food other than a couple of cakes. In an extremely dog friendly location (next to the beach) they don't allow dogs inside and make everyone wait in the cold until they eventually shout your name so you can collect a coffee 20 mins later. For a cafe in Scotland this is way below par and for hungry customers at 3pm extremely disappointing.

We had planned this as a wee Saturday day trip from Glasgow after stumbling across this cafe on social media. It did not disappoint! At the tail end of Storm Babet the seascape was wild and Drift is perched on the top of a cliff providing stunning views. It is comfortable, stylish and we were given a very warm welcome despite the business all around. The food was exceptional, truly and I am an ex chef, so think I recognise good grub. Great attention to detail, clearly great quality seasonal ingredients, put together with love, you cannot fake that. The cakes and scones were delicious and we enjoyed them with a great cup of coffee. There are a team of young people who were charming and total grafters. This cafe is a delight and I would bring anyone to showcase this jewel in Scotland’s coastal crown. Thankyou so much for a lovely afternoon.

Staff member just walked away, saying nothing, and returned after at least 5minutes to say table ready. Again a huge wait for order being taken and 35 minutes before food arrived.Food was just OK,although two mistakes in order, which meant we were all eating at different stages. Perhaps Drift is a victim of its own success, but we encountered complete ineptitude and a total lack of any customer service when we ordered soup, bacon rolls and cake to takeaway early this afternoon. The takeaway trailer wasn't there which should have been a warning to us to leave. Instead, after a lengthy wait in the cafe we put in our order, and waited. The cake eventually arrived. Assuming the rest of the order would be following on quickly, we continued to wait. And wait. The bacon rolls finally arrived but we had to ask for a refund for the soup that we'd paid for, but which they'd run out of! Guess what, getting the refund resulted in a further wait. It took 45 minutes from we arrived until we left with our takeaway food. At no time did the staff indicate that there would be an inordinate delay, nor did they apologise for the delay when the food eventually appeared or for the fact that they were unable to supply food we'd paid for. In fact it didn't even seem to occur to them that we would be owed a refund! The young people running the place seemed utterly clueless and appeared to lack any management or training in customer service. It was a dispiriting waste of our time and we won't be back.

We stopped off for a late lunch, service was a bit all over the place. When placing our order some items were forgotten and never appeared-their loss. The full breakfasts came and were lovely albeit the price was expensive vs what was on the plate. We were sat at a table for two which was fine but when one of the tables at the window became available we asked since it was quiet could we move to enjoy the view. We were told in a withering very sorry manner that they had to keep the table incase a larger party came in - it sat 4. Great emphasis was made on the chance a larger group might came in so to our surprise when I kid you not literally a minute later a single diner walked in and they were seated at this ‘larger’ table despite others being available. Not great customer service, feel that needs work and time invested in training.

Their reservation system needs adjustment as we had booked a table but then had to wait twenty minutes for the people who were on our table to finish their meal and move. My suggestion is that new reservation signs are created which allow for the name of the customer who has booked the table and the time they have booked the table for. To be fair to the people who were at our table they would not have known what time they had to vacate the table or that we were waiting.

Visited twice last week whilst staying a mile away at Tantallon Caravan park. We have dogs so it’s a nice one mile walk along the busy main road. We’d been before and were a little surprised that the menu didn’t appear to have changed in the year since we were last here. As we have dogs you have to sit outside which is great as the position and views across the Firth of Forth out to Bass Rock are truly amazing. A variety of large picnic tables (consider some smaller tables as there isn’t enough outdoor seating as most people sit 2 to large table so often have to wait long time for seat) and upright coffins (for want of a better description) with bench in. Unfortunately your disadvantaged significantly by being outside as the menu is very limited, oppose to sitting inside. We had an over priced £7.50 breakfast roll, which had one slice of bacon, wilted spinach, chutney and an egg, the other half had the veggie version which had a portobello mushroom which was impossible to eat as it was covered in oil with all ingredients sliding out, both very underwhelming and over priced. Coffees and cakes however are great, a lovely array of tray bakes, cakes and slice really are very tasty. Overall a better experience to be had in doors as the menu is larger. I think the location makes the place an absolute goldmine as it really is a special location and the day we were there there were a huge amount of cars and people being there for a Monday morning. It also needs some investment as the whole place is looking quite tired and worn, dirty windows etc. Definitely would come back for the cake and coffee which were great.

I’d rate what was served as 1/10 - Ordered kedgeree from menu at c.11.10 on Sunday 30 July ‘23. What came from the kitchen was extremely poor (if not awful) - it was dry, tasteless and lumpy. How can you possibly serve lumpy rice? I’ve...

Passed this Cafe several times and always wanted to give it a try, definitely be the first and last, was a bit surprised to see no prices on display but ordered 2 breakfast rolls 2 coffees and scones anyway, the price at the time I thought was rather steep but just let it go, but just been on my online banking and noticed had been charged even more than was told , just does not justify at all what was bought and the quality did not justify the price either have tasted better, very disappointing
