Wow wow wow! Dinner was exceptional. As in out of this world delicious and incredible. Stunning. Thank you to the chefs and staff at the Michelin star The Clock House, Ripley. Every course was sensational. Faves were the ‘snacky bits’, the fish course and the final desert. Stuuuuuuuuunnning!!! We had the 7 course taster menu and it was sublime. Wonderful ambiance and delightful staff. Thank you

We have had the pleasure of experiencing many tasting menus from around the country. Petrus in London and Tare in Bristol which were both exceptional. Sadly The Clock House tasting menu lacked flavour, finesse and the wow factor of a tasting menu. For the price we expected better.

Another excellent meal at The Clockhouse! We usually have the dinner time tasting menu so lunch was a bit of a change but equally as good. The only downside was another guest glaring at our 3 teens, who were impeccably behaved and have eaten here numerous times before without any derision. We won’t be put off.

There is no a la carte menu so one gas to choose the expensive tasting menu. My partner didn't like anything from the tasting menu so asked for the vegetarian tasting menu. My meal was probably the worst I have ever had, nothing at all memorable except a tiny piece of halibut the size of my thumb which was over cooked. All in all very disappointing.

We have been coming to The Clock House for a long time, going back to Steve Drake’s time. After a poor experience last year, we returned hoping that the new chef might have improved the offering. Quite the contrary, it was underwhelming. The mise en bouche were inappropriate, breaking and not finger food. The rest of the 5 courses meal lacked interest, contrast. There is no longer a choice of menus. You cannot see the current offering on line, so it is bad luck if you have booked and do not like the menu on the day. Great shame that the previous standards have not been maintained.

We went to celebrate friends’ 40th wedding anniversary. The food and service were very good. The staff was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. They are knowledgeable and were able to give us information about the dishes when asked. The food was very good and beautifully presented though I did find the mushroom in Hen of the woods dish a bit salty but this might be due to my personal taste bud.

Amazing service and outstanding quality of food. Really nice setting on the booming village of Ripley and a nice garden at the back of the restaurant in which they grow much of their produce. Peaceful restaurant and the staff are really friendly and helpful. I would recommend sitting in the bar before you head down to the main restaurant. While we had the five course lunch tasting menu, we were disappointed at the size of the portions on each dish - extremely tiny.

Superb! We had such a fabulous meal at The Clock House. Admittedly it’s somewhere rather special and not cheap, but it knocks the socks off most restaurants. The tasting menu was a perfect journey in flavours and textures. The service was top notch too and one can see why this place has retained its Michelin star for so many years. It really is a special place for any celebration and the perfect place to treat yourself.

We had a lovely evening at The Clock House. The tasting menu was the just the right amount of food (especially if you want to opt for the cheese selection) and was absolutely packed full of amazing and surprising flavours. Everything was beautifully presented with attentive and friendly service. My partner has food allergies and this was addressed in advance and he was given an adapted menu to ensure he could enjoy the same experience which he really appreciated.

Took my daughter for her 16th Birthday: Was so excited to take her for her first Michelin * Restaurant. I have been to many Michelin starred restaurants- but wanted to make it special for her and a new one to tick off this list for me - be it only 1 Star. The menu was giving to me and my daughter and the price of the menu was printed at the top of the menu which was given to my daughter so she saw it. A NO GO to me, when I am obviously paying the bill / 1st Error. If you want a feast - Don’t Go. If you want Michelin Star Service - Don’t Go. If you want Top Service - Don’t Go. Half the Tasting Menu was Luke warm if not Cold and would have left a Guinea Pig Hungry. Amuse Bouche was good and both had great presentation and flavour / enjoyed. Beetroot dish was lazy and unexciting and didn’t fit into the menu and wasn’t worth the money. I don’t want cold beetroot with cream at a top restaurant/ Lazy cooking. Fish was cooked perfectly along with accompanying sides / but eaten within 3 mins due to the size of the dish. Filter of fish aren’t that small / no need to be so tight ! The beef dish was amazing in flavour - but I could have put the full piece of fillet I’m my mouth in one drop and then what was left? Cheese board was good and the M’D was great in describing the selection. Dessert was OK but not amazing - and nice touch of that they remembered my daughters birthday and delivered with a chocolate written message - nice touch. The bill came and I was charged twice for the tasting menu and had to point out that the bill was wrong which was embarrassing on a special night out!! Would I go back - Not in a million years! I don’t know what they fed the Michelin Inspectors - but I certainly didn’t receive that last night.

The food was good, and excellently prepared but the quantity was pathetic. Even a child portion would be larger than what they served . Considering the meal costs an average of £150 per head , to have to leave the restaurant literally starving is deplorable . The staff did not once ask us whether the food was alright or even if we wanted another drink etc. We had to request them to clean the table during the course of the meal . Good food but certainly not Michelin star . No wine pairing was offered , no wine sommelier came around to suggest any wines and the bar serves absolutely no cocktails . Disappointing experience and despite speaking to the staff at the end of the meal no remedy of any sort whatsoever was even suggested . The portion of the dessert was so small you had to literally search for it on the plate . Only one type of bread served which was cold and stale . Even British Airways serves better bread at 39000 ft . Strongly recommend not visiting this place . None short of a rip off . Very sad and disappointing experience .

This place has had a few incarnations as a very good restaurant and as Drakes, having been there three times but quite a long while ago, we were not overly impressed. On those visits it was lacking in atmosphere, service was austere, and the food was good but not that good. Determined to give it another go fearful of a repeat we were very pleasantly surprised. The service was really excellent, both good and friendly. Wednesday evening there was only two tables of two, including us. This could have caused a very flat experience but what with the service and the excellent music being played it didn’t. We had the 7 course tasting menu and it was very good. Much improved on our previous experiences. It is in striking distance of excellence, but don’t let that comment deter you as I am comparing it with the best restaurants around and this is very nearly in that league. Having avoided the place for some years due to our previous experiences we would have no hesitation in going back, which we shall. Nearly everything about this restaurant is fantastic – the ambience, the service, the attention to detail. Unfortunately, the portion sizes are tiny: we had to top up by eating the delicious bread, and at the end of the meal felt we needed the additional cheese course because we still had room for more. At £250 for two, including service and liberal quantities of wine, they could surely afford to double up on the quantities of food on the plate.

For our Birthdays last year we received a gift voucher for Clock House. We decided to wait until Summer before using it because one of the many attractions of this lovely restaurant is to be able to sit out in its archetypal English garden for drinks before and coffee and petit fours after. The staff are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and very efficient. The food is not only a culinary work of art, the combination of aromas, flavours and textures make every dish a delight, even the dishes that would not normally appeal. Today we had the 3 course lunch. Two amuse-bouche were offered and for me the pig's ear "scratching" with piccalilli was the clear (if somewhat unlikely) winner. Our starter of chicken was very tasty but a little bland. Both main courses were beautifully conceived and presented - my plaice and my wife's hanger steak were cooked perfectly and came with interesting accompaniments. No choice of dessert and "strawberry, clotted cream and elderberry" didn't sound all that exciting. However, this was no ordinary dessert it was a Clock House delight with wild strawberries, delicious strawberry ice-cream and other ingredients which looked amazing and tasted even better. Coffee in the garden with petit fours was a great way to finish off an equally great meal.

Sometimes the best things come totally unplanned. We were driving through Ripley on a weekday and decided to stop for a late lunch. The place is perfect in so many ways: beautiful design which manages to be peaceful and lovely at the same time, flawless friendly service and a set menu to die for, with perfectly blended ingredients. The wine list is superb and very reasonably priced. Pace of our meal was just right too. We’ll certainly be back soon for a more leisurely dinner, where we can experience a drink in the garden and the full set menu.

Excellent venue for a private party. Great garden for pre dinner drinks and if weather not great good bar area. Superb service provided by Iain and his team with excellent pre planning. Food all delicious and a good wine list to choose from. The staff under Iain’s leadership ,provide excellent service without being obtrusive . Attention to detail in the hors d’oeuvres to the pre starter and pre dessert and the chosen menu are all special.

So two years after our first visit we returned to the The Clock House to find that Chef Clappertons skills are even more finely honed. He is producing food of great finesse with great assurance. A chef at the height of his powers. Highly recommended.

We’re just back from our tasting lunch at the Clock House and cannot rate it highly enough. From the friendly multi national front of house team ( One Pole, one Croat one English - all knowledgable and engaging) to the decor which combines modern and rustic perfectly through the extensive wine list and onto the amazing food, it is difficult to imagine any way in which the experience could be improved.

We went here about a moth ago a special treat with our daughter from South Africa who we hadn't seen for 18 months. We had the tasting menu paired with wines and it was absolutely delicious.Every dish was very tasty despite the fact that we might not have chosen them on their own. Friends of ours had kindly given us a voucher but make no mistake it is expensive. The staff were very attentive and helpful and took trouble to explain what the ingredients were.

All dishes we chose (from the a la carte menu) were excellent but especial mention must go the the asparagus with slow-cooked duck egg and to the pre-dessert, a surprising but wonderful melding of the flavours of Thai basil parfait with lime pearls and sweet cucumber mousse!

What a lovely treat to sample the 7 course tasting menu at The Clock House. Food was absolutely divine . Each course was beautifully presented as works of “ food art “ and was delicious and full of awesome flavours . The huge amount of effort from all the chefs could be tasted from each and every bit on the dish ; from the foam , the purée , the oils and the main star be it eel or beef or duck egg , etc. It was a privilege to have been there to celebrate a lovely occasion with superb food . We toast to all the chefs in the kitchen for all their very hard work and for creating such artistic and awesome food full of flavours. Thank you

We've just had the winter taster menu with the selected wines for our anniversary lunch. It was by a country mile the best meal we've had for an awfully long time. The menu, the cooking, the service were all exemplary. It was a proper, relaxed, long lunch and thoroughly enjoyable. Of course it was a treat but then in life you tend to get what you pay for. Thank you Clock House.

We took a friend to The Clock House for lunch as a birthday treat. We had the lunch menu - there is a lunch tasting menu if you want to push the boat out further. It was less cost and far better quality than the meal I had with other friends in Paris a week later. One of our starters was smoked eel, the others lamb faggots. Neither sound special but the tastes and textures certainly were. We all had guinea fowl mains which were beautifully cooked and flavourful. The helping looked insubstantial when it arrived but the flavours were so intense that we felt fully satisfied when our plate was empty. We finished with cheese, dessert coffee and petit fours. Oh yes, a bottle of red Sancerre which was a new and most enjoyable experience for us. Everything was a delight. Nothing was ordinary. There are restaurants that provide even more exceptional food but, for the price, ambience and quality of service (attentive and not over-bearing) the Clock House undeniably deserves five stars. And, at lunchtime, the dress of all our fellow diners was casual.

Because of a change of marriage partner and therefore chef, this restaurant has a new name. Booked this on another holiday, not realising I'd been here in 2014 when we had a really dire experience. My heart utterly sank when we realised it was the ex-Drakes. However it was too late, so we gave it another try, and this time thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely ingredients, tastes well balanced and so much effort had evidently been put into an excellent gastronomic experience. Apparently the previous sous-chef has taken over and fortunately has way-surpassed the previous chef. This time I'd happily say the Michelin Star is well-deserved.

Oh dear, what has happened to the Clock House. Been going off and on for years and it has always been worth facing the awful journey on the M25. But no longer if to-day's lunch was anything to go by. Prettily presented as always with little extras at both ends, nothing quite tasted as it should have done. Either too many clashing flavours chasing each other, or hardly any. But the meat was excellent. Still, disappointing.

So, the Clock House is not traditionally romantic. That said, if you are both ‘foodies’, you will not be disappointed. It is circa £120-£150 per person for dinner (inc the wine flight). This is not extortionate and the food/wine really are superb.

A lot of the stuff here is amateur but actually quite good. It's still reasonably pricey considering the performers etc aren't paid - I can only assume the overheads aren't cheap. Nice little bar too - decent coffee - and they also let you take your wine into the theatre which is civilised. If you need to park up try the car park by the George Abbot pub - much easier to park and nearer.

If you're looking for great Indian food in Guildford, this place is an option. A pub/restaurant with a homely charm that makes you feel like you're in a bygone age with a range of drinks as well as pool/darts tables. I ordered the chicken naga with pilau rice and garlic naan. I was warned that it would be spicy but it turned out to have a moderate heat to it that made it pleasant to eat. Although it did take a while to arrive which was the only let down. But the service from the staff more than made up for it. They also show live sport and have a fireplace. Will definitely be visiting again if I return to Guildford.
