Loads of choice for a vegan / vegetarian restaurant. Good service and a relaxed atmosphere. Knowledgeable staff who were able to offer advice on the menu. Large portions and served in a timely manner.

A really lovely little spot for really good vegan junk food. The standout for us was the northern poutine loaded fries.

It's great to see a wholly vegan eatery serving the typical food that you would want to see in a pub or restaurant, such as wraps, burgers and the typical comfort food. Everything is vegan and with great taste too. The waitress was very friendly, helpful and this goes a long way to creating a great atmosphere. They also had a vegan Chinese menu on that day but we didn't try it. If I was in the city for longer I'd definitely come back and try.

Very good time in this restaurant. The decor of this somewhat hidden place is really successful. The music is great. The vegetarian and vegan dishes are original and the two burgers ordered were excellent. The staff is also very friendly. I recommend 100%

Lovely dirty vegan and vegetarian food. Had the zinger burger with seitan chicken, the extra spicy Cauliflower wings and poutine loaded fries. All was very delicious and washed down with a delightful fruity IPA. Prices very reasonable and staff incredibly friendly and helpful. It's a lot bigger than it looks from the outside too.

Went for the first time whilst visiting Liverpool and had a wonderful experience. It is a little hidden gem! The menu gives lots of choice including gluten free options. The food is beyond delicious. The staff (especially Jenson) were very kind and helpful, made the whole visit more enjoyable.

Delicious food. For someone who is both vegetarian and gluten intolerant I can find it tricky when dining out - but I could have around half the menu which was incredible. Friendly service, good atmosphere. Attempted to walk in on Friday night and weren't able to get a table as they were fully booked, so we booked for Sunday and are glad we came. I was worried that it would be pretentious, but it was a relaxed and fun atmosphere. I especially enjoyed some of the artwork! Interesting cocktail menu too - a handful of bespoke drinks, very tasty! Highly recommend the sweetcorn 'ribs' and the goan curry!

somehow managed to book here unknowing to the fact that the restaurant was entirely vegan; I'm so glad we decided to stick with our decision to come! Despite coming on valentines day we were given a spacious booth seat and the service was immaculate- super quick and attentive. The prices are great for the portion size that you get; the burgers are packed full of a variety of flavours and textures which are absolutely delicious, better than the majority of meat burgers I've had. The menu is the perfect size- will definitely be returning to try the other dishes on offer as it was difficult to choose exactly what I wanted, everything just looked so good! Thanks :)

A lovely vegan restuarant, with a great menu- would highly recommend. While most if the dishes we had were great the mac and cheese was underwhelming and quite dry, although on request more sauce was brought out. Otherwise all the food was delicious! Service was fantastic :)

Very quirky place for food and drink. Menu is good with plenty of choice. I had the Shepard’s pie which was very nice and the staff are lovely. Good atmosphere and you can just go in for drinks if you wish. The men’s toilets are not great. One thing which would be great is if they added mac and cheese to the menu as a small side. Enjoyed my experience overall and glad I went.

People clearly seem to like it here but we were a bit underwhelmed. The burger (Salt N Pepper Fella) was absolutely tiny for its price - basically the size of a Saver Menu item from an unnamed fast food chain. My partner ordered vegetarian Mac and cheese but got the vegan option - which definitely did not taste like real Mac and cheese. Service was good.

Awesome food and friendly service. Great veggie/vegan restaurant. Best cauliflower wings and onion rings I've had in a long time. The burger was homemade with a lovely flavour and texture and the Northern Poutine was lovely. Topped off with a Malaga lager. Heaven!

Not been here for a few years, took refuge from the bitter cold . Had a lovely macaroni cheese with a side of fries. Not been very well just recently but managed to polish off the whole meal. Lovely staff and efficient service as usual. Wasn't very busy when we got there but by the time we had finished our meal it was getting quite lively.

It was 8 degrees when we arrived at 1.30pm. It was so cold even the serving staff had coats on! They did have radiators but they were off! We sat with our coats fully buttened up during the whole meal. It was a 45 minute wait to get any food. We had to ask for glasses for our cans of coke. The food had far too much doughy bread and my dip was like hot dish water. We couldn’t identify any of the sauces . The dirty fries were nothing like the description on the menu. It was chips covered in what looked like leftovers! The food left both of us with acid reflux! I used an Itison voucher but if I hadn’t I would have refused to pay for the food. Overall it was a horrible experience.

I’ve been here twice now and I love it. There’s so many options compared to going to any other restaurant, I struggled to choose. I really like the atmosphere too, I’m looking forward to coming back and trying the loaded fries!

Fantastic food and service! I don't usually eat vegan food but I thought it was great! The spicy sauce was actually spicy. The staff were friendly and helpful and even gave us recommendations as to where to fo next. Would highly recommend!

The food here is *insane*. Admittedly was a little hungover and needed a feast but the poutine was incredible and the wings were done just right. Next time I'm in Liverpool I will definitely be coming back!

Popped in when they opened on a Friday and had the best food, with great service and the atmosphere was great with the place filling up from the go. The ladies serving us were Above and Beyond and I felt like I'd known them before, very friendly and an asset to DTH WoW, is all can say about the food. We had mushroom SnP wings (I'm coming back just for them). Next was the mushroom risotto, Amazingly Delicious. We had to try the bratwurst dirty fries, that were very authentic and gorgeous. Wish we could've finished them all, with the big portions. Their fresh juices were spot on and their Cappuccino (with oat milk), was expertly made and so creamy. First time visit today and certainly won't be the last. I'm told I have to book in for their Sunday roasts, deffo on my to do list soon 😀

I've visited Down The Hatch 4 or 5 times now and every time it has been amazing! We visited last night for my partner's birthday and it didn't disappoint. The restaurant has lovely chilled vibes and we're always made to feel super welcome. The menu has a great selection, and even if you are a meat eater (like myself) you'll find something to enjoy. The mac and cheese is always a favourite of mine, and the onion rings are huge! No doubt I'll be back soon!

Ate at DTH a week ago, and meant to post sooner. The restaurant is wonderful - food is terrific, portions are generous, and the staff there are very friendly. I also love the atmosphere - very cozy and welcoming. Look forward to eating there again when I'm next in Liverpool.

Down The Hatch is my favourite vegan place to eat in Liverpool. The service is excellent, and will offer discount should anything go wrong. The staff are amazing and always super friendly. The food is consistently superb whether you order for delivery or dine in, and the cocktail menu while not huge is absolutely amazing, really tasty, and always vegan.

Prices were insane. Food is really bad, the same as it was years ago. Small portions. Paying £15 for shepperds pie that was actual MASH with barely any filling... Waitress forgot my veg (cold and hard) that came with my meal, and 10 minutes later I received the gravy that was supposed to be with it, like water. My partner had a burger that was filled with red cabbage and dry burger, was not good at all. We had the 'calamari' as a starter (was labelled as a side) and had 5 SMALL pieces for so much money !! Rip off. (People sat next to us were very rude to the waitress and we felt really terrible mentioning anything about our food) Student discount only offered during university timetable timeframe so when you actually finish university for the day and you fancy a meal here.. you have to pay the full price. As most places, you should have a student discount up at all times regardless the time/day/month especially when you have mostly student customers. As a vegan, I was confused to why somewhere that is labelled Vegan offers dairy cheese as an option? This is a no no.

I arrived just before my partner it was dark and you have to walk down the very dark no light steps and misjudged the last step, grabbed the wrought iron rail (hurt my hand slightly) to prevent me falling. My partner said when I arrived at the table "them steps - nearly fell" I replied, "me too(as above). 3 got 3 starters on offer for £18. The non meat balls were very nice, garlic mushrooms were OK and potatoes bravas weren't great. These 3 portions were quite small (maybe single portions non deal may be bigger) Partner had the lentil curry / chickpea. The commented how small it was with a small bowl of rice in the centre. Unfortunately, the moulded rice bowl 🍚 upside down was rock hard and remained in its shape and wasn't edible. We told the waitress and she took the meal back the kitchen. We heard the chef from the kitchen "just send the chef apologies" Waitress said something about cooking or using different bowls for the rice. Looked like the rice had been sitting cooked for ages in the bowl but I'm no chef. By the time her meal arrived which was a better size portion and the rice was edible I'd eaten most my meal. I'm a meat eater and went for the burger Royal which was a nice crispy pate / texture with fries. My burger was nice with the only negative was a cold bun like it had come from the fridge. The wine and service from the waiting team was good and the restaurant is lovely inside with bare brick and nice lighting. It was my first time at a junk vegan restaurant and worth a visit. Quite busy at 7.30 added to the atmosphere.

Having wanted to visit for a long time, I visited for a much anticipated Sunday lunch. Unfortunately, the service was really below par and the food was average at best. The cauliflower in the cauliflower cheese was black and tasted burnt, the kale was tough and the cookie dough didn't materialize before I had to leave. I was there three hours and they only managed to eventually serve one course during that time. Very disappointed, especially as I'd made over a hundred mile round trip to eat there.

Was a little disappointed with the food, it was quite expensive for what it was. It didn’t really feel “home cooked”. My partner had shepherds pie but it was mostly mash and the vegetables were in a pool at the bottom of the bowl. I had the apple jacks burger but it felt cheap there was very little jackfruit lots of red cabbage and cheap chips. I think the idea of down the hatch is great but its execution is poor currently. We have been here a few times now and feel something is missing still. It doesn’t beat the likes of Woo Tan Scran or The Caledonia unfortunately.

And for all you allergy warriors out there, worry not! They've got a list of allergens like E621 (MSG) and sulfates, so you can dine with peace of mind. 🙌🚫 But wait, there's more! The cocktails at Down the Hatch are a true work of art. 🍹🎨 I had sips of pure happiness in a glass – they're absolutely amazing! Went in for dessert. Which was delightful but I've been here before for mains and the food is quite salty. Could be better. The service is great though and staff are brilliant

What a gem of a place! I must have uttered "wow" under my breath about 30 times while eating my meal. Not only was the food sensational but the staff were lovely, plus the music was great and, crucially, at a sensible volume. 10/10!

Wonderful food, wonderful service!! We were served by Elena who was absolutely fantastic, she was really attentative, got on with us really well and we had a good giggle. The food was amazing, so tasty, and really reasonably priced, especially with the September student discount offer on!

I had the "Northern Poutine", which, as someone who regularly visits Canada... this certainly would make Canadians proud to devour. The staff are absolutely the most professional yet friendliest staff I have ever encountered at a restaurant, and they did a fantastic job in dealing with my allergy requirements (most restaurants don't acknowledge allergies which aren't the top 14 allergens but they took my chilli allergy very seriously). The vibe is relaxed and homely, so it feels like you're dining in a comfortable home with family and I love that! I absolutely 100% recommend... in fact... I demand... for anyone visiting or living in Liverpool to visit. They have recently won top business and restaurant awards and they deserve every single iota of praise they receive. Came for a birthday, and one of us is rather select with their food preferences 👀 but the team were so accommodating and nothing was too much or too bizarre. Food was incredible - donner loaded fries O M G, YES. And the cocktails were just beautiful.

We came as a couple to try something new and different. As meat eaters we’ve never really tried vegan food before. We were on a date night and only wanted something light so we tried the small plates platter consisting of sweetcorn ribs, buffalo cauliflower wings, meatballs and a bowl of salt and pepper fries. They were all delicious, well seasoned and tasty. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, and staff couldn’t be nicer.

Terrible experience, will not be returning. Do not visit with a confidentials voucher as staff are disrespectful. From first arriving in the restaurant, we were immediately pointed to the bar chairs with a messy surface, the restaurant was half full so we had to request a normal table which we were the. moved to. We were told no offers were included in the voucher, such as 2 for £14 cocktails, certain drinks and student discount, however we were understanding and continued to make our order. The drinks which arrived were terrible, the cocktails were 90% ice and were not as described. Staff admitted that they given us cheaper version drinks because ‘they do not make money from the confidential voucher’, the host also lost their temper and walked off when we raised it, and after time came back to give us a correct drink. We noticed other tables had normal cocktails as we would have expected, which demonstrated we have been handled differently due to using a voucher in the restaurant. A good job the opposite bar Pins provided a great experience and ended the night positively.

Our 3 course meal was very sadly let down by the ridiculously small portion of cheesecake that I was given yesterday evening. It was TINY especially when compared to the desserts given to my companions. Please consider increasing the portion of the cheesecake. It did put us off returning.

I am not one for eating out since becoming Vegan it has been a bit hit and miss with restaurants so I had decided not to try anymore and just trust my own cooking. Today was a late birthday meal for my wife and I had decided to give it a try one last time. I read a great article about Down the Hatch in the local press and chose to give them a try. I am so glad that I did as this was the place that shows that quality of service and quality food can be received together. Bright friendly and professional from the start to the last was the service. Tasty Food, perfect coffee for me and quality ale for my wife. Sorry can't give more than 5/5

Great experience at Down the hatch. Food was amazing and so much choice for a fully vegan menu. I hate vegan cheese but the cheese sauce was the best I have had. Great cocktails and very friendly staff. Will be making the trip there again soon

the menu says a lot in detail about the food and then there is option of adding more potato chips in it, and even after i choose the least amount of chips all I got was plate full of chips and the little food on the side. It's like paying 11 pounds for a potato. so If you going to taste amazing food then forget about it you will end up eating potato chips.

not a great experience unfortunately. both plates of mac and cheese came out luke-warm and the garlic used on the bread and in the mushrooms had an unpleasant bitter aftertaste. the garlic bread was replaced but was soggy and seemed like quite a low-quality product overall. the staff did all they could to rectify the chefs’ hiccups (a few free pints, and 25% off the bill) but the final price still felt expensive. £16 for a plate of under-seasoned mac and cheese seemed pretty steep in hindsight. i’d maybe go back again and try other dishes but i wouldn’t go back in a hurry.

Ein komplett veganes Restaurant mit einer leckeren Auswahl an Gerichten. Die Atmosphäre des Raums ist sehr schön und die Musikauswahl ist uns sehr positiv aufgefallen. Der Service war gut und sehr freundlich! Ich empfehle einen Besuch!

Great taste food and great staff

I made a reservation and was seated in the darkest corner in front of the loudspeaker on one side and a loud bachelor group on the other side. When I asked for a less noisy spot, I was offered a seat in front of the toilets. So we left. This is a dark, noisy hole, quite the opposite of the other vegan restaurants in town that are managed with great love and respect.

Top place in Liverpool! Had dinner here with my sister and it was difficult to choose from so many great options - we enjoyed everything! Mostly a vegan place. We tried the frickles and 2-4-1 burger deal. Salt an peppers fella burger - Stirfry type taste was yummy Apple Jack's BBQ burger with fries I wanted the Hazelnut Brownie Sundae with my main to have on the side during and asked, but it was forgotten and given at the end. So I had that after and didn't get another dessert. Great selection of drinks and a bar too!

Our group of 15 dined at Down the Hatch for lunch and all thought it was fantastic. The food was delicious- there is a lot on the menu, so something for everyone! The staff were so welcoming and attentive, we even got an extra drink on the house! The experience really topped off a day of celebration for us, and will be sure to return if I'm ever back in Liverpool!

Tasty food... lovely service . Welcoming to well behaved dogs (only at front of restaurant - so check availability ) . 2 4 1 burgers on offer .. access down several steep steps .so accessibility can be an issue . But well worth a visit .

Un posto che mantiene le promesse: veggie junk food davvero buono! La cameriera è stata molto simpatica e le loaded fries davvero sfiziose. Il locale è un po' buio... Perché è davvero "down the Hatch" Consigliato per tutti i vegetariani e non che passano da Liverpool

Das Essen war super lecker. Wir hatten ein Menü mit Burger, Pommes, Getränk und einem Nachtisch für £18. Ein gutes Preisleistungsverhältnis. Das Ambiente ist sehr schön, mal was anderes. Das Personal war auch sehr freundlich und aufmerksam.
