Dough in York

Grabbed 2 sandwiches before leaving York as this was by where we parked. We were both starving and this hit the spot. Bacon and Sausage warm sandwich was deliciously and good amount of filling, very impressed. Served by a lovely lady too

We are so lucky to have Dough on our doorstep. Everything we try is lovely, especially the focaccia, cinnamon buns and sourdough bread. We also often order a family lasagne when we want a quick but delicious tea.

We have now tried most of the fare offered at Dough and it’s all fantastic. Get there early if you want the best focaccia which is delicious (try the rosemary and sea salt). The pizza, pasta and calzone are all great and the portions are generous. The only problem with Dough is that I can never resist buying more than the sourdough loaf I went in for. The sourdough is excellent, it is full of holes but all the better for it.

Went in to buy a loaf. Unlike previous reviewers I did not find the service friendly. Bread tasty enough but lots of tunnel holes in it. Disappointing given all the plaudits on TA.

Incredible little bakery a short walk from York city centre. The best focaccia I've ever eaten and the cinnamon bun was delicious too. Well worth a visit.

Love the calzones from here, good range of fillings and they're delicious. Lovely squidgy chocolate brownies too.

We'd walked past a few times and on our last afternoon popped in to get some bread to take home. What a fantastic loaf of bread we ended up with. Very helpful staff and clearly wide choice of home made delights. Just writing this has me thinking to go and cut and butter another slice. Not to be missed.

After a visit to Homestead Park I was feeling lightheaded and hungry so on walking past I decided to pop in for a sweet treat and also was tempted to try the Brie and Cranberry sandwich, it was delicious. The guy serving was lovely. A warm welcoming friendly personality. Will definitely make this my go to place when I'm heading out in that direction.

Popped in to get coffee early one morning and was blown away by the range of food they offer. The pizzas looked excellent. My son had the cheese and ham calzone and loved it. Had cinnamon buns to go with coffee. The bread looked lovely too. All freshly baked. Friendly service.

Delicious bacon and sausage cob to start the morning, friendly helpful staff served me a grand coffee too. Whilst I waited local’s we’re coming in to collect pizzas to take home and fresh bread for the family. The pastries looked fresh as a Prince also. Enjoy!

First time visiting this place. My bacon sandwich was delicious with the bread cake being freshly baked. My flapjack biscuit was the best I've ever had. I'll definitely be back.

Lovely local bakery with very friendly staff. They make absolutely delicious and very addictive focaccia 😍 Their cakes are also to die for and the sourdough is top notch. Very reasonable COVID measures, usually one person inside and queue on wide pavement so no issues social distancing.

Whilst I wish that Dough provided a greater variety of bread, more regularly baked, what they do have is excellent, and it's the only place selling fresh bread in the vicinity so we're lucky to have them at all. The pizza slices are something of a Marmite option. If you prefer your pizza bread-like and cheesy (no judgement, there's a place for everything) then this is the place for you... but if you're after something with a crunchy base and toppings evocative of the Med then head elsewhere. It's not fancy but it is tasty, and certainly satisfying. The croissants and pastries are delicious, and high enough quality to serve them to guests at my B&B who then asked where they could buy more. High praise indeed!

A fab little bakery selling the most amazing sourdough bread! Crunchy and chewy on the outside and lovely and soft on the inside! We also love the garlic focaccia. It didn’t last long! As soon as we got in the car, we shared it all! It was meant to go with some soup later, but was too irresistible. The focaccia was soft and moreish! I could have eaten another 2!! They also sell fresh pizzas and pastas and cakes! Will be back again to try the other goodies!

Fantastic bakery here! Came in the other day on my way by to be treated to an amazing selection of breads, cakes, pizzas and more! I bought a loaf of bread and a cheese pizza square and I have to say I was delighted by how sensible the pricing is and how tasty the food was! 100% recommend it’s great!

We were staying at a nearby hotel but weren't having breakfast there so I went out for a run and popped in here to grab coffee and croissants from here and it was a good choice. Goof coffee, nice croissants and the guy who served me was lovely and friendly.

Bought a gorgeous picnic today of freshly baked sausage roll,cherry and coconut cookie and freshly brewed coffee and sat nearby on the riverside .Really enjoyed my picnic from Dough ,a perfect lunch right at this moment in time. The homemade takeaway meals -Lasagne, pasta looked delicious and are available from Dough - a great treat to have in the coming days .

Heading out of York, we needed a quick bite to eat and, having passed this place a few times, pulled over with the intention of grabbing a sandwich. Instead, I had the most AMAZING beef goulash soup. Thick, hot, full to the absolute brim and utterly delicious. It came with a thick slice of bread and if I wasn’t completely full and halfway down the A1, I’d go back for another one. Husband had the roast beef with horseradish mayo and red onion chutney focaccia, which he enjoyed but I know he secretly wishes he’d chosen to have hot soup on a miserable rainy wet day like this. SO GOOD. The pizza and pasta on display looked delicious so that’s next week’s lunch sorted! We also picked up a round white loaf which is wonderfully fresh and might not survive the journey home...

This was at the bottom of the where i stayed and i wish i'd gone in there more. I went in on my way back to the station for homeward journey and greated by a lovely young man who made me a lovely garlic ciabatta with chedder & pickle. It was light and delish as was the cinnamon roll bun. Wish i had my lunch from there more often. Everything looked so yummy. Thank you Dough.

Dough provides great calzone and pizza slices at a decent price. Great lunchtime meal. You can also get the best focaccia here, as well.

My father and I were visiting family in York and we wanted some breakfast, so we drove around looking at all of the options and we then came across Dough. Oh wow, those sausage rolls were to die for, nicest ones I've ever had in my life and trust me, I've tried a few. Very impressed, just a shame I don't live closer, otherwise I'd be there every week. Top quality breads. They can bake to order so are able to handle special requests. Gets a bit busy at lunchtime as its a small shop and understandably very popular as both the products and the service are firat class. Great little shop with fantastic selection.

A good place to buy lunch. They have mostly pizza, calzone and cake/cookies. I tried a calzone and it was excellent.

I went there for a meal with my friends and the food was above average i would say and the service was brilliant. I heard about this place before so i was really eager to try the food there and it didn't disappoint

Nuestra orden era genial - y luego apareció enviaba Colin en la tienda para finalmente decidir y el orden. Teníamos amigos que venía después de trabajar y quería una rápida propagación de calentarse fácilmente. Era muy libre de problemas, y lo haremos de nuevo. Pizza, pasta y brownies todos fueron muy bien, tuvimos pasta a la izquierda sobre la que teníamos para comer al día siguiente y en realidad creo que sabía mejor, así que, en general, bien vale la pena.

No escribir muchos comentarios, pero este hallazgo fue fantástico. Paramos y compramos algunas cosas para llevar a casa y comer para el té. Nos dieron pizza y la mejor carretera rocosa que he probado jamás! Los precios son muy razonables y la calidad de los ingredientes son geniales. Sin duda parada allí de nuevo!

This is a tint little takeaway, but well worth making the effort to get to. The coffee is excellent, and the range of freshly baked cookies, cakes etc is impossible to resist.

Hemos ido a Europa y el Reino Unido durante los últimos 3 semanas y no han podido disfrutar de un buen café en el REINO UNIDO desde que llegamos... hasta que encontramos la masa. Comenzamos a trabajar en Nueva York y me dijeron acerca de este lugar. Visitamos la semana pasada y sin duda volveremos de nuevo para un almuerzo regalo. Pizza pasta, sopas y quiches, Calzone's junto con los postres, pasteles para morirse!. Yo tenía un jamón y mozzarella Calzone que era perfecta, no demasiado pastoso y el jamón era precioso, nada como trozos de plástico pretenda jamón. Entonces optamos por un caseras brownie, tan delicioso. Tan contentos mi nuevo trabajo me dijo colegas acerca de este lugar, voy a visitar ahora una vez a la semana, y trabajar en el menú precios ! son razonables y la chica que servía era muy servicial y agradable.

Nuestra casa de huéspedes estaba justo al cruzar la calle desde aquí, así que decidimos entrar a probar. Todo parecía delicioso y recién hecho. Probé el pepperoni mini calzone, que era delicioso. Debería de haber vuelto a probar el helado! Un pitstop encantador para un almuerzo ligero.

Stopped here on the walk into York center, and got some delicious Italian pastry to take with. They also have breakfast items.

I highly recommend this little deli. Homemade pizza slices, cakes and gelato at reasonable prices and exceptionally friendly service. My waistline won't thank me because it's right next door to the b&b I'm staying in so I'll probably be in there every day!

Truly excellent place - I love that it's a niche establishment doing more or less just dough, and I really enjoy supporting it. Delicious doughy products! :-)My only request for improvement? Use better quality pepperoni on the pizzas. The pepperoni is not good quality and that comes through in the taste. But you know what? The pizzas are so good it almost doesn't matter.

We live just the next street over and we can't keep away! Everything is delicious, but special mentions go to the mini calzones and the rosemary and sea salt focaccia, which is easily the best bread I have ever eaten, by a country mile. Our treats very rarely make it home on the 1 minute walk, without nibbles being taken out of them!

Ordered lasagne, pizza, focaccia breads and brownies for a dinner party and everything was delicious. From enquiringly about the order to the time I picked it up, communication was excellent. Would definitely use again!

I work closeby and have eaten in various places however nothing beats the homemade fresh food that dough provides. Delicious dough creates the best pizza, calzone and focaccia. They offer a good range of topping/ filling aswell. The lasagne is truly lovely. The biscuits and ice cream look very tempting too. Pleasant staff.I would recommend this place to anyone in need of Italian food.

Delicious family-of-ten size lasagne, pizza, garlic focaccia and velvety ice cream prepared with care and expertise and at very short notice by Carol in advance of a Golden Wedding celebration. She couldn't have been more hospitable and helpful. I strongly urge anyone in the vicinity to pop in, say hello and enjoy the delights this fabulous little bakery offers.

I often get my lunch here when I have a break, and I love it!!! So good and handy to have a place like this in york to grab authentic italian pizzas at great prices and a perfect size! The lasagnes are very delicious too and also great to grab for lunch, and as for the brownies... nobody beats them. I am looking forward to trying the gelato when I walk into york in the sun :) Service is ok most of the time.

Like the title suggests, this place does the best brownies I have ever eaten. I can't even begin to explain just how fantastic they are. The family are lovely and so is the rest of the menu. The gelato is just like the stuff in Venice; perfect for any time of the year.

I had booked for 11 of us to stay in a self catering apartment in York for my cousins hen weekend. For the first night I planned to take my own food or at least we would be eating in and going out the following night. Having come across Dough on here I emailed the owner to see if he could organise food for our evening in. Colin was very helpful and good at keeping in touch with me and fitting around our requirementsI picked the food up on Friday evening and took it back to the apartment, following the instructions to heat it up. We had homemade lasagne, a selection of pizzas and focaccia and different flavours of ice cream to finish. The food was amazing. Loads to chose from and way more than we could actually eat in one sitting. The company was good and the food great giving us all a chance to get to know each other betterI would defiantly recommend Dough.

A sufficiently amazing lunch, we walked back out to it the next day. They serve a range of pizza, calzone, and baked goods along with sandwiches and pasta. Everything costs £2-2.50, which is a good two pounds less than I'd expect to pay at home. It was delicious, filling, and cheap. I cannot conceptualise a better lunch.

I finally had chance to pop into the shop on Bootham and I'm delighted that I did! The young lady serving was lovely, even when I was dithering over what flavour focaccia to get. The focaccia was to die for - I'd eaten half before I even got home. The Italian almond biscuits have to be tried to be believed. You get a lot for your money once you realise just how great the quality is.

In Easingwold we have been blessed to have the original Dough shop and been spoilt by all the gorgeous breads, pizzas and biscuits that Colin and Heidi make. I visited the Bootham shop a couple of weeks ago and was pleased that it had the same quality of food and service. My friend hadn't tried Dough before and was delighted by her pizza and bread. Another friend said the rose marshmallows made by Heidi at Christmas were the best ever. Fabulous little shop!

We have been going to Dough since its opening last year in 2014. Always great authentic food along with fast efficient service. Great Take-Away choice, a must visit with a great walk in Bootham and Clifton.

Small and friendly Italian Bakery on Bootham. They serve delicious fresh Pizzas cut into squares big enough for a lunch. The Foccacia's are authentic and morish and come with a variety of toppings, also try their Almond Biscuits which have recently won a national award. Everything is also very good value too!

Dough opened up at the end of my street a few weeks ago and I eventually got round to trying it at lunch time today. The offspring of a popular bakery in nearby Easingwold, this friendly little takeaway offers pasta, pizza by the slice, ice cream, fresh bread and other goodies. Today I was tempted by a slice of roasted vegetable pizza. It's the kind of thick slab of takeaway pizza that is common in Italy and was pretty good and reasonably priced at just a couple of quid. Everything else looked good too so I'm sure I'll be back for more - it's only a matter of time before I succumb to the temptation that is their delicious looking gelato!
