Closed for good in feb great shame

We came here as a family for my mum and dads wedding anniversary, I haven’t been here for many years and since I last went, it has been taken over by new owners, we all sat down and had a beautiful meal and the service was great. Such a lovely place in a beautiful countryside. Staff very polite also. Will definately return.

We have been dining at the Dog & Hedgehog since 1970s on and off. Absolutely gutted that it will be closing. One of the best restaurants in the area in my opinion. Made extra special by Bill the general manager. What a character he is! Happy retirement Bill, you will be missed xx

Unfortunately the Dog & Hedgehog is closing for good in a couple of weeks. Food not so good on our recent visit. Sadly though we are losing one of the few pub / restaurants around that are worth going back to.

As usual had a fantastic Sunday lunch. Have been a customer here for the last 13 years since Bill took over. Sad to hear he is retiring in 2 weeks and the pub will be closing. Bill and the excellent food at The Dog & Hedgehog will be missed.

Brilliant as usual but the owner told us he was shutting and retiring on February 4th. It won't be opening again until he sells it. Very sad but happy retirement.

Excellent lunch - we haven’t been for several years but the service was excellent. We will certainly go again.

Excellent food & service - whitebait best ever , fish & chips huge portion and tasty, pie FULL of meat , ham hock delicious, staff attentive , no room for desert lol

Great to find a great pub serving great food..we had fillet steak which was beautiful. Lovely atmosphere and very welcoming staff. Lovely to hear staff calling customers by their names which shows they have great regulars who keep returning. Definitely need to book even during mid-week lunchtime. Also toilets were spotless!

I came with my wife and her parents and 2 little dogs..from the moment we entered, waitress was amazing, and food...well that deserves a Michelin 🌟... loved the 🍨 🥧 🍦 dessert..

Absolutely fantastic, excellent food, good beer selection, excellent customer service. Our go-to destination for meals out with family or friends. The menu is fantastic, have sampled most of it (except the vegetarian stuff) and never had a dud, specials are always delicious. Worst bit about it is having to choose what to have, as could gladly eat it all!

After many years four of us decided to meet for a meal here. We all ordered something different from the others. Service was excellent with the meals arriving together which at many places does not happen. All of us enjoyed the meal so much we have booked to return next month.

First time visiting for a birthday meal. Food was amazing, service was top class!

We were on a canal holiday and decided to try this pub. We are so glad we did- we cannot praise it enough, all the staff made a fuss of our dog, even had special dog treats. We were made welcome and all the staff including the brilliant Landlord made time to talk to us. The food was excellent, we both had calves liver, beautifully cooked. The desserts were also delicious. The pub itself was nicely decorated and spotless clean. We tried to go there again on return trip but it was a Sunday so they were closed in the evening. Can’t fault it, only wished we lived nearer!

Wow what a little gem. We had cycled up from the Ashby canal to have an evening meal. When we walked in it was unfortunately fully booked. However as we had cycled up they managed to squeeze us in. Which was v kind.

Arrived too late for food so sat outside in sunshine & just had a drink. Lovely vires across the garden.

We arrived to find a very well situated pub with lovely countryside views and ample parking. The premises were presented to a high standard, light airy, nicely furnished and tastefully decorated. We took friends for a special lunch and were met by a very dapper host, who after seeing off another party with handshakes for the men and hugs and kisses for the ladies greeted us like old friends. Two of our party ordered gammon, including myself. Oh dear! There it was, the smallest piece of gammon I have ever seen, hiding under an egg, a small egg at that, a desert spoonful of peas and 10 insipid looking chips which had clearly been kept warm for quite a while. The other two had sausage and mash which was better, but two sausages, really! We didn't make a fuss as it was a special day not to be spoiled further. Needless to say, we won't be returning.

We had been staying in market bosworth and 6 of us went here for Sunday lunch . Absolutely fantastic service even from booking over the phone , The staff where so helpful , friendly have a laugh and a joke With us , and the food was excellent , beautifully cooked and presented, it’s a must if you are in this area .

Our family came to The Dog for Sunday lunch as a group of 12. Food and service were great. They catered to my gluten free diet very well, with plenty to choose from, including gluten free gravy for the Sunday roast. Overall a wonderful meal and would certainly return.

Absolutely fantastic food, service and atmosphere. We got in because everywhere else was fully booked and thank god they were. Shame it's our last day or we would be there every chance we could. Raaaaaaaaaarspect!!

Visited here with a friend for dinner. Starters arrived and were fine, main course was mussels. I discreetly went to the bar to mention I felt that my meal had a funny aftertaste, mussels are not something I would chance if I felt they were not fresh. Manager was patronising, he then proceeded to get my dish to pass around the staff to sniff. This was both embarrassing and intimidating. My friend then admitted he had made a comment when we initially received our meals that he had “sprinkled with gluten”, I am gluten intolerant and at this point we settled the slightly reduced bill and left. The Hercules 5 minutes down the road was far more accommodating and reassuring on their handling of allergies.

Saturday lunchtime after a lovely walk we all selected different meals, all were fresh and flavoursome. The desserts were even better. Atmosphere was friendly and welcoming we will soon be returning.

Lunch time meal with friends, nice pub pleasent staff, meals portions on the small side for the price. Chicken schnitzel lacked seasoning, steak beguette nice with plenty of meat.

Went for a family Sunday lunch to celebrate my husbands 70th birthday so there was 10 of us We booked at short notice as our BBQ plans were scuppered by the awful weather Despite fitting us in we were made to feel welcome and had a very nice table with a window overlooking fields with horses in. The adults all had Sunday roast which was served up quickly was hot and tasty with plenty of side dishes of veg (no extra charge) which is unusual these days! The children had smaller portions or something off the kids menu...nothing was too much trouble. The service was second to none and the drinks were reasonably priced too. We had brought in a special cake for my husband and they brought it to the table whilst we all sang happy birthday it was lovely All in all it was a lovely meal with white tablecloths and roses on the table which made it seem so special Thankyou again d&g for a lovely time spent in your great restaurant We will definitely come back

The best eating place in the area, they can't do enough for you, Service and food are Excellent and the Atmosphere is great. Highly recommended. Have been many times and will go again.

The stunning scenery from the restaurant's garden is worth the visit alone. But forget the view: the food was superb. No, really. Our party of five were all extremely happy. The host delights in enhancing your evening and gets it just right. The restaurant itself is cosy and the atmosphere is quietly jovial. Fabulous evening. Thank you.

Ordered gammon and egg which was nice, but only came with nine chips !!!! Not good value for money in my opinion. The chips weren’t even that nice.

What a gem! Went for an impromptu meal quite late in the evening and hadn't booked (Sat night) Greeted on arrival with a warm welcome which seems a rarity these days! Food was delicious, high quality, cooked to perfection. Two different fish dishes. The sea bass was divine. Very attentive throughout with a friendly atmosphere. We look forward to returning soon with our four legged family member having seen how welcome other dogs were made. Hard to find a 'true' dog friendly pub that serves great food locally.

Mother in laws 90th Birthday. The D&H catered for 11 of us, Service, Food and Setting was first class as always. Had many family functions there and will continue to do so. Everyone loved it, nothing was too much trouble for the staff and owners.

Nice pub and it's dog friendly to boot. Very nice staff but the publican is a bit strange. I asked one of the staff if I might sit on a reserved table as there were no other spaces available and they said it was fine. The owner came over and admonished me for potentially dirtying the cloth (which I hadn't) which I totally understand. There's just a way to speak to people though and that wasn't it. I've been there a few times but before and since but his rudeness has always stuck with me. The meals are slightly overpriced but my experience really takes it from a 5 star to a 3 in my opinion.

Amazing, just amazing, we even had the dog with us, but we still sat in the restaurant. The food was to die for, unfortunately we only visited once as we had to return the narrow boat and they were fully booked on the Sunday. Compliments to the chef and everyone else too! Top notch home cooked food, top notch service, top notch friendly staff and manager. Can't fault it at all. Ask for the room that's separate from the bar room as it's quieter.

Food was bland and dull as if it was cooked in the 1950s. Over priced and a complete rip off for the food presented. Will never go again and I will stick to other far superior local establishments like Hercules, Turpins, Horse & Jockey, Barnicles..... just to mention a few.
