Poor service, no deviation from menu, chutney brought with main course not starter, service charge although optional added to bill, won’t be back. Started off ok and shown to table. Wanted chicken tikka with a sauce on side, can’t do this so had the Chicken Ruby. Cooked well enough but tasted like tin of tomato soup with spices added. Started arrived with no chutneys, thought I may have been mistaken so ate. They then arrived after my main was delivered. Waitress asked if everything was ok, but before I could answer had turned to have conversation with colleague and both walked off. Upon receiving bill I was asked if I was ok with Service Charge, which I wasn’t due to above, removed but all pleasantries disappeared from waitress. In way out, the door person was staring aimlessly into space, not even a passing thanks for coming, please come again. Definitely want be coming back.

We visited this restaurant while on vacation. I enjoyed the ambiance, the decor, the music, our server, and, most importantly, the food! I had the chef's specialty, which was a lamb dish. It was very tender and extremely flavorful. My husband enjoyed his dish as well. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Extremely Disappointing. We arrived and were shown to our table. Nice place with good vibe about it however that’s where it stops. My Wife is Vegan and Gluten Free which is usually one of the best places for her to eat is an Indian Restaurant. Server not helpful at all with the menu and it was very scarce with really nothing to suit her, eventually she picked a dish. I ordered a chicken dish but unlike any other Indian Restaurants definitely don’t accommodate any deviation from the menu. Food arrived and my wives was not a nice taste and my dish extremely bland. Service asked us what we thought and I said it was very bland and my wives did not taste good either. No real reply so we asked for the bill (Service Charge !!!), paid and left. Would certainly not go back, the appeal must be the Vibe in the place as it is certainly not for the food. We eat predominantly Indian food either at home or when dining out and this was certainly not of the standards we are used to, basically a Chain Restaurant with Take It or Leave it Attitude. Definitely one to avoid.

this spot was highly recommended by 2 different locals. food was good (daal wasn't so great) but the server was terrible. it doesn't take much to serve one person, but was almost invisible to him. lively atmosphere, not too loud, but the server just put a damper on my experience.

The food as always..amazing. But £54 for a bottle of not excellent malbec???really?? I was honestly astounded by that ..they are ripping us off with that. I love the food but like my wine with it and won't go back for that. Dishoom.....sort that.

Great location in St Andrews Square. We had a wait time of around 45 minutes but we sat in the bar and had drinks, very pleasant staff here; warm and welcoming. The food was lovely and good value, however we felt the wine was very overpriced for an 11% wine, £39! There is a 12.5% service charge, I do think this is too much for the level of service offered. Will we be back? Probably but we won’t have wine.

We had been meaning to try Dishoom. The curry (chicken ruby) itself was great, however only had a couple of bits of chicken in it, which, for £15 is underwhelming. They also could not make it spicier, so offered to add chillies to I'm The naan bread was also lovely, however we were given two measly pieces, which, again, for the price, is disappointing. Overall, I do not think the quality/quantity of the food matches the pricepoint, and I wouldn't return.

We have been to Dishoom in London so had to try it again when we found a restaurant in Edinburgh. A little bit of a wait but we’ve always had to wait for Dishoom. We were quickly sent down to the bar to wait where the waitress was very attentive. Our pager buzzed before we even got our drinks. Really delicious food! Walk in the door and the smell is unbelievable. Menu was well explained to us by the friendly waitress. I got the chilli chicken starter and for main I got the chicken ruby which were both really nice. Only criticism is the chai I ordered wasn’t full and it was quite expensive. I was really looking forward to try Dishoom and it completely lived up to my expectations. We sat down the stairs and enjoyed some drinks while we waited for our table to be ready. We were initially told 30/40 minutes wait however the table became available earlier! Daniel was our waiter and he did a great job in explaining the menu to us. He recommended that we get a starter, main and a side to share between me and my Mum. This was a great idea as we both left full and no food went to waste. I enjoyed the way that we were checked up on during our meal as we often needed more water due to the spice… 😂 We will be making a return. And the beer was very tasty too 🍺🤔

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday on Friday & honestly it was faultless, 10/10! I really love Indian food & this totally blew us out of the water, the starters were insane which are in the photo, we had the chilli chicken & something else which I can’t remember. For main we had one of the ruby murrays, chicken tikka roll, rice & cheese & garlic Nan. The staff were so so friendly especially the young guy served us, he made us feel so relaxed and welcome & helped us with the menu. I really couldn’t fault this place at all. Food was very nice, service quick and friendly. I didn’t appreciate the “optional” 12.5% tip which isn’t really optional. You have to ask for it to be removed which is a bit awkward. I’d rather tip what I feel is appropriate. 12.5% is almost USA type tipping.

Dishoom breakfast never fails to disappoint! I’ve been a few times, tried the egg naan roll on this visit. The house chai is a great accompaniment. Would also recommend the kejriwal and the masala beans too! 👌🏽

We love Dishoom but had only visited the London restaurants before trying Edinburgh and it didn’t disappoint! A big, busy and bustling restaurant with the usual Dishoom atmosphere. Food was excellent as always. The service started off well although our server seemed to get distracted by other tables towards the end of the evening. Wouldn’t stop us returning though, the Chicken Ruby is just the best!!

We had a really lovely meal here - we'd not been before so our waiter explained how to get the best from our visit. The quality of the food and the service were both exceptional - so much so that we booked for the following night to sample more of the menu. To our surprise and delight the lovely person who took our second booking ensured a window seat for the second night, and a complimentary pud! Such great customer service! If you get a chance to visit, don't hesitate!

We booked for brunch on the first weekend following the relaxation of the rules. Despite this, everything was really well organised and slick from arrival to when we left. Staff were friendly and the Covid protection measures felt really safe but the restaurant still looked very normal and blended in nicely. We had ordered a few bacon naan kits during lockdown so it was nice to have someone else make it for once. The food was excellent. We all loved our food and coffees. Can’t wait to come back for lunch or dinner!I completed the feedback survey which came into our inbox after visiting and a put a couple of minor suggestions, not really expecting anyone to read it, let alone respond and yet I got a really friendly and appreciative response which I was really impressed with. They clearly care about customer service!Can’t wait to be back soon.

Thank you to the thoughtful members of staff who surprised my friend with a candle in a chocolate pudding today after they found out we were there celebrating her recent engagement! So so thoughtful and we were both so touched by the gesture. I can’t remember the names of the staff but especially the tattooed girl with long blonde plaits - you absolute sweetheart! I've eaten at Dishoom twice now and I've come to the conclusion that I'd just not go back. The restaurant itself is classy and stylish, and the staff are very knowledgeable on allergens, which is a big plus as I'm strictly gluten free. In terms of allergen knowledge, it's certainly one of the few venues I've eaten at where the staff really know their stuff. Ie: The waitress I spoke with went on numerous occasions to check with the kitchen about what dishes were safe to eat, what part of the kitchen they were cooked in, for example. The fundamental issue I have, and what's stopping me from returning here is with the pricing and the quality of the food. On both occasions i've ordered Chicken Ruby. It comes out very quickly and the portion I got was small, especially considering the curry (note here, this isn't including rice) is an eye watering £12.50 and the chicken used has been quite stringy (I also experienced this when one of my colleagues took me to the Carnaby branch in London recently). I'd expect the Chicken to be better quality for the price point. There are plenty of other eateries in Edinburgh to experience Indian/Bombay cuisine, and I'm afraid this is one I'd not recommend or return to.

Visited here a few times and again will be back. Food is outstanding. Service great even with all covid measures and very busy service. Shout out to the lovely lady who was out in the rain taking reservation names. We arrived early and she saw I was heavily pregnant and insisted we were seated early (even although we were happy to wait) made for a nice start to the evening. It’s those little steps that mean a lot.

Food, service, atmosphere.. all otherworldly. I love this place. My first visit to the Edinburgh restaurant but as wonderfully consuming as ever from the Chicken Ruby to the chocolate pudding. Masterful flavour combinations & charming service. Wish I could afford to eat here all the time but as a treat, it never lets me down.

If you can get a reservation here, take it - no matter what time of the day. The staff are incredibly friendly and fun and work together as a team seamlessly. The food is outstanding especially the black dahl. Gorgeous atmosphere and deco - can't wait to come back.

We had a lovely visit to Dishoom with friends to celebrate our wedding anniversary, GG was our server he was excellent, very helpful with a great knowledge of the dishes on the menu. The table we had looked over St Andrews square a great view. The food was delicious and when we received our bill we had a pleasant surprise our deserts and coffee had been gifted to us by the restaurant how nice, we will certainly return and will recommend Dishoom to our friends

Found Dishoom as we walked round by York Place looked nice and had an inside table ready. The waiters & staff were very knowledgable and helpful we had a guy from Ireland explain the menus. Just a little different from normal Indian fayre.Spicy Chicken King Prawns & veg Samosas to start My chicken Ruby was very tasty Garlic Naan was ok spicy potatoes were good. We had a nice time and were well looked after by staff. There is a lift to Restraunt dining room.

We had an absolutely lovely time at Dishoom Edinburgh. We ordered plates to share between six of us with various dietary requirements (veggie, vegan, lactose intolerant, normal) and Dishoom offered plentiful fantastic options for all of us. The black daal is my favourite food and it does not disappoint! I could not recommend it more. A new discovery for us tonight was also the jackfruit biryani—the saffron, spice, and sweet raisin flavours mixed perfectly. The highlight, however, was the impeccable customer service. We were served by a lovely Australian woman (Nicki?) who was a friendly beam of sunshine. She was attentive and refilled our bottomless chais very promptly :)

Take away from one of our favourite restaurants during lockdown. Food delicious as always and very impressed with the cardboard cartons rather than loads of plastic. Keep Up the good work .

Thought this felt a review seeing as how COVID isn’t allowing it to open as a restaurant but ordered a bacon naan at home kit. Lovely ingredients that were great fun to put together, learned a couple of new methods and ended up with two delicious bacon naan rolls - somehow familiar but delicious with the tomato and chili jam and fresh coriander to add freshness. The masala chai was perfect to wash it downImaginative, fun and delicious.

Most rushed meal experience ever. Dishoom should have warned us ahead:1. No chance to eat our meal in the slot of 1h 30 allocated.2. The amount of food was too much for six people. We ended up packing in take away pods most of our mains.3. Even our deserts of ice cream were given on our way out so had to eat them in the street.For the amount of money paid we would have appreciated some advice and warning about all the above. We ended up really disappointed, frustrated and stressed at the end.Shame because the food was delicious and the service was good rather than the constant rushing to us. Dishoom should not allow any booking for a large group after 4.00 pm.

My family are obsessed with dishoom and my mum and dad are always going to dishoom for breakfast. They can’t see past it. We tried to book this weekend for breakfast but unfortunately but understandably it was full. Instead we went for the lunch option. Which did not disappoint. As a starter we shared a “small plate” of spicy prawns which were delicious! My boyfriend had the ruby something curry? It was delicious and had such a lovely sauce. Perfect. I had a biryani rice dish with chicken and cranberries and other berries. Also amazing. However I think it was better because I got some of the sauce from my boyfriends curry. His food didn’t come with rice so he shared some of my dish. We also had a garlic naan to share which was absolutely delicious. We had a hot chocolate and a mocha too! It came to about £46 which is quite steep for a lunch but we will definitely return and it’s completely worth it. Also love how you can pay by just scanning a code at your table! So simple and easy! I have the cookbook at home which I also highly recommend! Staff were friendly and helpful and cheerful. My only one criticism would be that they seemed very eager to take the plates away. Felt a little rushed. Will definitely be back, again and again and again.

I have only been for breakfast, which I thought is was well worth the money for what you are getting ( have a look at breakfast prices in other Edinburgh establishments) I had the vegi breakfast nan the rest of my party had the bacon one ( read their menu for exact details) mine was like something I have never tasted before, I now understand the hype! Also tried the bottomless house chai - loved it. Service and covid safety was exceptional. Will be back asap when I can get a table as it is really popular

Arrived for a midweek lunch and was immediately impressed with the measures taken to make the restaurant covid-safe. The member of staff at the door welcomed us by name - which I was delighted by - as we were ushered to our table to be greeted by another friendly member of the team. The menu was explained and the food we selected was delivered quickly and was exceptional. The flavours were pretty outstanding with fresh aromatic notes complementing the spice. We enjoyed our meal hugely and the service was fantastic.

Pasé a almorzar. Tenía un par de platos pequeños, pollo Chiili y langostinos Koliwada, paneer roll y ajo naan. Salsa deliciosa lo acompañó todo y todo estaba tan fresco. Fantástica visita para el almuerzo, el ambiente es perfecto y me encanta la decoración, una verdadera sensación de lo que imagino que sería un café en la Bombay de los años 20.La comida es genial, fuimos por las Samosas con Chicken Ruby y Biryani (también probamos algo de la "salsa" de los otros platos). Viktor explicó bien los platos y también dio buenos consejos sobre alergias, excelente servicio muy atento y definitivamente volveremos.

Visitamos Edimburgo y siempre habíamos querido visitar un restaurante Dishoom. No nos decepcionó. La comida, el personal y el ambiente fueron excelentes. El camarero estaba muy bien informado y, como era nuestra primera visita, explicó cómo funcionaba el menú. La comida era excelente y volveremos a visitar.

Apareció por impulso. Buscando buena comida y bebida. Dios mío, qué deliciosa sorpresa. Primera visita y definitivamente no es la última. El restaurante cumple todas las recomendaciones sobre Corona, se siente seguro y bien cuidado. El personal fue super atento y amable. La comida estuvo deliciosa y la señora explicó todos los platos y su experiencia fue bienvenida. Recomendaría el Sauvignon Blanc austriaco, era un vino nuevo que estaban probando y tuve una copa gratis. Deshonesto se presenta como un buen restaurante antiguo, cálido y súper amigable y no puedo calificar la comida o el personal lo suficiente.

Visited Dishoom for a late lunch and food was excellent and super fresh. Social distancing is in place with hand sanitiser on the table. Super friendly staff :)

My third time visiting Dishoom. The staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful, and go into great depth when explaining the menu. Each and every dish we tried was extremely tasty. My favourite restaurant in Edinburgh.

Mi novio y yo visitamos Dishoom anoche y estamos muy contentos de haberlo hecho. El servicio fue excelente y muy atento, la comida era para morirse. ¡Todavía estoy soñando con el daal negro cocido a fuego lento! Teníamos el vada Pau, que es una versión india de un butty de patatas fritas (muy sabroso), luego las patatas con pólvora, el daal negro y un plato de verduras al lado. Hemos estado en Dishoom Edinburgh para cenar durante tres noches, durante nuestro viaje de una semana a Edimburgo. Me and my partner came here to celebrate our anniversary, and the staff at the restaurant made us feel so special! Our server was called Ahmed, and he was brilliant! Gave us suggestions on what's good to eat, and he was so kind! We had lots of food, all of it was delicious! We came during Eat out to Help Out, so the value for money was great. Would recommend the Prawn Koliwada, Black Daal and Salli Boti!

Four of us went for breakfast which was amazing! Naan rolls with bacon and egg,sides of spicy sausage, fire toast and unlimited chai latte, all so delicious. In addition to this wonderful feast of food the staff are the happiest, most helpful, genuine people I've had the good fortune to meet in a very long time. They looked after my partially sighted mum and anticipated her needs with genuine care and smiles. And when they knew it was a family anniversary they gave us a chilli chocolate desert with a candle in it which was such a lovely thought. It's an absolute favourite now and I've not stopped raving about it!
