If you like Japanese food (and I do but I wouldn't necessarily seek it out) this has an excellent kitchen. But it doesn't quite have the atmosphere of a buzzing London restaurant. A bit clinical, perhaps needs more warmth in the decor. But sashimi was genuinely excellent.

One rule in the restaurant business is customer satisfaction and Dinings doesn’t have that. We have tried to cancel our reservations and they won’t let us cancel unless we pay 30 £ per person. I understand it’s way to make sure the customer attends their reservation but we have called prior of our reservation time 4 hours to cancel due to some personal reasons and still they weren’t understanding.

I'm here to share my recent experience at Dinings, and, truth be told, it was a bit of a letdown. Even though the food was fantastic, the overall treatment and service were far from satisfactory. So, we had a reservation for 9:15. Things took a nosedive when the last order was called just 30 minutes in, before we even got all our food. Then, to top it off, the bill was handed to us without asking, and we felt like we were on a time crunch, hustled out the door by 10:45. For a substantial payment of £300 for two people, the rushed service was undeniably unacceptable. We had anticipated a significantly higher level of service at this price point. The food might have been a highlight, jet the overall experience fell short of our expectations. I'm sharing this review in the hopes that Dinings takes it as constructive feedback and works on improving the overall dining experience for future guests.

dined here 3 times in the span of the past year , Staff has changed multiple times I suppose, as I don’t really recognise anyone. used to come here pre- pandemic, and I had the fondest memories. Well, not anymore, past few times I have not managed to ever leave particularly happy or satisfied. This last time we were served o-toro sashimi with a very visible line of fat that made it impossible to swallow. Same for a lobster nigiri which made me run to spit it out. Our table was also cleared before we were served our last order; so they had to bring back everything after they brought the last dish. I suppose they just wanted us gone? The time before last, we were also given the bill as we were having dessert ( we didn’t asked for it ). Overall just disappointed, I was hoping to have a special night… I just end up feeling unwelcome most of the time

We had heard rave reviews about this place so wanted to check it out. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. Things started off promising: some crispy mini fish tacos which were…nothing crazy but ok to kick off a meal. They were fresh if nothing else. This was followed by a delectable spicy salmon soup, bold and balanced with flavour; would definitely recommend. Things continued well with a yellowtail ceviche. Again, fresh and lively with flavour. “Cool” I think “this has been tasty af, started off promising - I’ll write that in my review. I’m excited for the sushi that is to come. I hope it doesn’t start dropping off” But then it started dropping off. Not only did the service slow, but the sushi that followed was simply not good. I’d even go as far as saying it was bad. We thought we’d order some of their special open sushi. The dishes arrived confused. Drowning in heavy molten of mixed mayos and sprinkles. Too much ponzu miso glaze truffle riff raff. The art of the fish, rice and seaweed was lost, gasping for air. And I could barely breathe either as I suffocated on some overbearingly rich green sauce that had melted on my yellowtail. The salmon, on the other hand, had little flavour whatsoever, only some sweet yuzu which, again overpowered the rest of the roll. The spicy tuna - hardly spicy. And again, mayo was just unnecessary. Flavours aside, and unlike their compatriot starters, these sushi did not taste fresh. I’ll leave it there. But we left disappointed, with heavy stomachs, and very light wallets after the giant hole of cash it burned in the bank balance. Sorry folks, there are better places to eat sushi London. Go to them. Not this.

Delicious and inventive Japanese food. The truffle miso aubergine was so good, we ordered seconds! Everything we had was fantastic. We were there celebrating with friends and brought a bottle of champagne. Unfortunately the server didn’t seem very experienced in serving champagne and quite a bit was wasted due to bubbling over and spilling. The service was otherwise good and friendly. The desserts were a bit of a let-down. I love truffles as much as the next person but don’t think they need to be in everything!

Absolutely loved the food and even the cosy minimalistic setting. Also really lovely that when the waiter found out the reason for our visit was a birthday, he gave a scoop of ice cream on the house. We were however still left with a bitter after taste as the waiter was clearly pushing for us to order more (expensive) dishes, presumably motivated by the 15% discretionary service charge. The worst is when we were debating on which sake to order, and he insisted he chose for us without giving us the chance to have a look at the menu. At the end we had a £63 charge added to the bill for 300ml of kind of sweet sake even though we requested dry. Also check your bill before you pay, we had an extra item added that didn't come to the table. In summary, lovely food but not worth the price.

its on a quiet side street close to work and very easy to walk straight place. We were welcomed by cheery shouts from the smiley staff and went down the narrow spiral staircase to the cramped basement which rapidly filled up with diners (always a good sign). We tried the "tar-tar chips" were taco shells filled with sweet crab meat and avocado (even smaller than the Nobu portions but much better), an aubergine grilled with miso sauce, sushi and sashimi. The food was good. Enjoyable. I LOVED the fact that the miso soup was a good HOT temperature. Nothing better than hot soup to get the blood and appetite going. I would give three and a half stars(7/10) if I could on this review, but unsure I would give four. The dishes were interesting in terms of presentation. Flavour and texture-wise it was not wow-elevated compared to other good Japanese restaurants. Service-wise…Staff were accommodating and pleasant, as we were a group of 6 plus a baby. There was a disjointed-ness with the serving of the food though. Sushi coming out without soy sauce/wasabi until the issue was raised some time later…(in a middle/higher end Japanese restaurant??) and I am sure it would not have come otherwise. The mixed seaweed salad came at the end of the meal, when we were nearly finished. It is usually served first. Décor wise… previous reviews have mentioned that it needs an uplift. Modernising is a term I would Use. Air con would also be good in the basement.

Best sushi in London? - Dining’s (36/50) . After “enjoying” some rather mediocre #sushi across the German border in Singen yesterday I was reminded of a great small place in London off #BakerStreet called #Dinings which came recommended by local friends. . Atmosphere: it is really SMALL with a sushi counter on the ground floor and seven small tables in the basement. It feels more like a canteen than a restaurant and it was empty when we arrived. Extremely basic tables and seating. We almost left but then decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed at all!! Normally, it would be (3/10) but that would unduly reduce the overall score hence a neutral (5/10) . Crowd: once it filled up we were surprised to see well-bred and well-clad couples - pleasant for the eye in this well-kept secret.(7/10) . Food: very, very good. The herring🐠 in lemon 🍋 was amazing with a perfectly balanced sauce. The (standard) rolls like hot tuna and salmon-avocado were out of this world 🌎! The nigiri 🍣 chosen from the special’s menu, I.e. tuna with foie gras and truffle were simply mouthwatering. Not cheap bUt worth every penny. I hardly ever go to (9/10) but it was REALLY good. . Drinks: the sake selection is wide and exclusive. As I am not a big fan no review of this. They had #cokezero which saves the day for me. Wine list reasonable with decent champagne selection but no #demisec. (7/10). . Service: friendly, informed, fast (just had to wait a bit for the bill). Good explanations re specials and interesting information ℹ️ provided on the history of the place. They have a sister resto in SW3 (will come in a separate review) and also one in #telaviv in #israel. DEF on our list next time we head out there. (8/10) IG RussiaInsider

Great experience at Dinings for our anniversary dinner! Good ambience, great customer service, friendly chef since we had bar table. We went at start of social distance loosen in London in August, thought they did well with staff wearing masks, digital menus n space out tables. Really enjoyed the wagyu roll with truffle, and otoro sushi was sublime. The food was really fresh and flavouring on point. However, the signature dish - sea bass carpaccio - didn't wow us. Server was very accommodating with replacing sauce and putting sauce on side when I mentioned I cannot handle spiciness. Overall a lovely dining experience, would recommend. We got £20 off due to 'Eat out to help out' scheme, so that helped.

Super meal. We got to sit at the sushi bar despite a reservation. It's a tiny little place, but the food is excellent. Can't remember what we ate, but anyone going there must pay attention to the day's specials as well.

Booked an inside table, after months of eating outdoors we were looking forward to it, arrived and the staff had moved all seating to outdoors. We were very cold the whole time which affected the experience. The food was ok but overpriced we felt, and a £100 deposit was taken the day prior to us arriving which I wasn’t informed about, asked for a refund to then eventually split the bill. Disappointing!

Hachi Japanese BBQ Restaurantlocation-icon56 Brewer Street, London W1F 9TJ EnglandJapanese

We booked for Sunday lunch for 2 pm, at 2.30 pm we were told by the useless waitress the kitchen is closing, we had only just received our first/starter order, so we had to rush our lunch from an advertised 1.30 hrs down to 50 minutes, the food was ok, too much pepper on the beef though, the only positive was yuzu sorbet, which came with our beef order,so we had to eat it before it turned to joice, we will go to back to Kintan, in Holburn, the next time we want japanese bbq.
