Foggy September so welcoming with fires lit inside and on the upper outside terrace and was so welcoming. Fabulous hot scones with butter jam and lashings of cream and v good coffe. I want to go back for one of their breakfasts. Lovely place great atmosphere.

This place has changed its name to mariner's. Our first visit , were given a seat upstairs at the window with views of the sea and the Mourne mountain which was lovely. I had fish and chips , batter bit overdone.George had chicken gugions. Would probably come back but ask for batter to be lighter done. Staff very friendly.

Now renamed as the Mariner and is a newly refurbished bar and restaurant

Great wee spot for fantastic food and excellent service.

Stopped here to have dinner with my wife and were warmly greeted and offered a table by a large fireplace which was much appreciated on a cold day. Turkey and ham was delicious and chicken curry was very tasty. Friendly staff and reasonable prices mean I would definitely eat here again. Thank you for your hospitality and banter.

Great pub, food lovely friendly staff

We ended up in here after a wet visit to the mournes with Canadian visitors. We ran in here mainly to get out of the rain & was ended up looking desperate for a drink as the doors has only just opened!We were initially put off by the stale smell, but I guess most pubs have this smell before being filled with people. We went ahead and ordered anyway & other customers started to appear.The food was well presented & all 5 meals served together & hot. We had a selection of roast beef, American chicken burgers, steak sandwich and a kids burger. All were huge portions, delicious and very reasonably priced.The only thing I would suggest for improvement - toilets could do with a bit of refurb...our visit was quiet mid-week, but they showed signs that the weekend may be the opposite and a bit wild!Staff were very friendly and helpful with any questions about the menu.

Several friends and I were walking the street in town looking for an early dinner. The menus looked solid and gave it a try. Glad we did.Aesthetically it’s a pub that looks like it will be very crowded in the evenings with locals enjoying a pint and a game of darts. There were a few tables near the windows facing the street, nothing fancy which was fine with us.Service was prompt and welcoming even though we were clearly not locals. The menu was good with a good selection of items including vegetarian dishes. I can honestly say, they had the best fish and chips i had in Newcastle and I tried several fancier restaurants.Service remained first rate throughout.This is a hidden gem.

Had a party here recently , i can not recommend this place high enough. From the food till the service everything was perfect. Nothing was a bother too Sarah an Paul they were so helpful . Will definitely be back 👌

Went here for a family event and was brilliant the bar staff was fantastic all night! Great facilities upstairs with your own private function room! Would highly recommend!

Visited here for a drink on Easter Sunday. Have been here before for food and drinks but will never be back. Music being provided by Stephen Rafferty. Pro ira music being sang and pro ira chants being sang by customers. No attempt by bar staff to stop same. Never ever felt as intimidated. Disgusting. Will be referring same to the tourist board. Stay away. Not a welcoming environment for tourists.

The food was delicious. Customer service was excellent. The prices were reasonable too. We will definitely be back.

Didn't know how to cook roast potatoes

Best place for food in Newcastle, we return time and time again, food is amazing and all the staff are so friendly and efficient. Have a wide range of items on the menu and have no problem modifying any of their dishes for you, would highly recommend for food and drinks

A quick bite with family staff werw effivent and friendly going out of the way with my little girl and getting colouring in stuff to amuse while wating on food.

We came back to this place for the second year in a row while on vacation. The food was awesome. Probably the best steak sandwich I have ever tasted. Came back the next night for the roast beef and have to say it was beyond expectations. Melt in your mouth style of meal. Awesome flavour both nights. Sat in one of the window seats looking out over the street and harbour, beautiful!

Great atmosphere, friendly , and will call again

Called to watch Liverpool match on Saturday, place smelled clean but the table was a bit sticky?Ordered food from the friendly staff.... Burger & chips and chicken goujons. They were ok, chips undercooked and goujons were hard? Didn't finish it! Probably won't rush back! But it filled a hole!

Service was slow, but the food was good. The staff were very helpful.

A huge thanks to Sarah, Paul, Corey and all the Diamond Pats team for hosting my parents 40th wedding anniversary celebration! The restaurant was set up beautifully, the food was amazing and the service was first class. All the guests had a brilliant night, and the overall function was excellent value for money. We will certainly be back for future functions. Thanks again for all your hard work!

Nice place for food and weekend entertainment, friendly staff.

The waitresses who looked after us were lovely but the gentleman who seated us was quite unpleasant. My friend had the goujons and only ate one, they were so bad. I had the steak and paid nearly £20 for a steak that had more fat than meat. Only giving two star for the lovely ladies who took care of us.

Visited Diamond Pat's recently and had a wonderful experience. The staff was tremendous, food terrific, and the live music was a special treat!

Five stars! All was superbly taken care of by the great staff in a wonderful location apt for large parties in the private room upstairs. Excellent food was served taking care of every individual request and after, the party moved downstairs where live music continued to keep everybody entertained well into the night. Highly recommendable.

Wonderful Irish experience, great food, incredible hospitality, and entertainment for all. it was a perfect venue for a large group, and they were exceptional in accommodating us in every way they could. Would absolutely stop in again for dinner and a pint the next time I'm in Newcastle.

The owners and staff are very friendly, happy to accommodate a large group on the second floor. They helped to arrange a festive Irish band to make the evening even more special for a bunch of Chicago golfers visiting the motherland. It is a must visit.

Was just there last Monday night and had a great dinner upstairs, and tons of fun downstairs listening to the Shilelaighs play live Irish music. Fantastic location, great service, and would for sure put it on your list to visit!!

called in here for tea on a Thursday evening. bar was pretty much empty but in fairness wouldn't expect more at that time. young barman was friendly & attentive. ordered burger & chips & chicken goujons. food came & was shocked at what was on the plate. frozen, cheap, packet burgers & iceland goujons that were rock hard. frozen chips that were cold & hard too. they charged best part of a tenner each for this??? madness.

I had the roast beef dinner I must say it was lovely the beef was so tender it melted in my mouth and a great helping of spuds and vegetables was definitely delightful great atmosphere and the raspberry ruffle cheesecake was TO DIE FOR great for really hit the spot if you've got a sweetooth. The waiter was very attentive and friendly I will definitely be back for some classic pub grub!

Visited this placetoday in beautiful sunny Newcastle ,staff were helpful friendly and very well organised. My husband is disabled and the staff went above and beyond to cater for him, and they even went as far as to provide fantastic seats in the window where we enjoyed a full panoramic veiw of the beach and mountainside . For our meal had the most delicious steak cooked to perfection med rare and just melted in my mouth. The accompanying veg especially the creamy mash potato were simply devine. For desert i had raspberry ruffle cheese cake and a cheeky glass of chardonnawhich was utterly heavenly. Thank you diamond pats i will be coming back very son

Attended a family function here on 29th April 2017. Service was absolutely appalling. Staff did not know what they were supposed to do!!! obviously no training. Food took ages to arrive and was luke-warm. Owners were obviously aware as they offered free drinks which were declined as we could not wait to get out of the horrible room we were in. Children had to sit beside the 'smoke room' which wafted in unhealthy smoke.Never again. There was NO wine at all in the bar. Staff nipped out to the off licence to get some. And the food was expensive for what we got. No one touched the pavlova desserts! They were melting when they arrived and the main waiter saw them sitting on the table and still asked 'Everything all right!!! We were speechless

Having traveled a lot over the years to many different countries I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this place serves THE worst food I can ever remember eating. The menu was limited to start with. It was a simple order of two burgers and chips. The chips were over cooked, tasteless and probably oven chips or something NOT the best pub food. The burger baps were both burnt, the burger itself was tasteless and even the side salad was beginning to rot and dreary. The person behind the bar who took our money never even said "thank you" or even "goodbye". Don't be fooled by the sign out the front "the best pub grub in town". I hate to give bad reviews but this is so easy. My mother's opinion after we left "That was rotten, the guy couldn't even say thank you for the business." The only plus side was that the server was polite and courteous.

Visited this bar for a lunch on a day out. 3 of the party ordered chicken goujons and I ordered the burger. The barman and the waiting staff were very friendly and attentive. Had to wait 45 mins for the food but it was busy. The goujons were enjoyed by the other three in our party but I have to say the burger was a large flat packet burger and not very tasty. I've had better from a burger van! On a plus mote the chips were nice. Would I eat here again maybe but would never order the burger.

The guy behind the bar was great, he served tables for food and drink as well as serving behind the bar. He was really good, polite and efficient. Unfortunately the food was awful and we wouldn't go back.
