Booked dinner for two before going to see Professor Alice Roberts at the Great Hall. The service seemed to be staggered so as to not overwhelm the kitchen etc, so on the steady side. We started with some table olives and the Cumberland sausages which was all very nice. I had the Greek burger which was OK, followed by the raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake which again was only OK. My wife had a seafood Paella thing (no idea really) followed by a chocolate tort. She said it was all very good. Maybe I just chose the wrong things. Nice restaurant, polite staff. Nothing to complain about. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area but might be worth booking as people were being turned away when we were there. We did visit during a literature week so might not always be busy. Would I go again? Yes, definitely.

My wife and I were in Oundle making a delivery and we asked for a recommendation for lunch, and were steered towards Dexters. Staff were very friendly, food very good and it was relatively busy for early lunchtime.

Well what can I say , everything about this restaurant is excellent. The staff , atmosphere , service and the food is the best , especially the Paella (my favourite) 👍❤️ We have been here many times over the years and it never disappoints. They also have a lovely courtyard garden which in the Summer hosts live music , we will be back again soon !

Went for lunch today, we both had fish and chips, it was lovely and the two waitresses were very friendly. Highly recommended.

Visited Dexters yesterday evening with friends. Our first time and we regret not visiting sooner! The food was delicious, fresh and arrived hot with hardly any wait. We were 3 omnivores and one vegetarian and there was an excellent selection of vegetarian options across the menu. The staff were lovely, very friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had what we wanted. The restaurant itself is beautiful, the interior was so cosy but also fresh feeling, really nice! The outside looked lovely too so I think we’ll be back in the summer for some cocktails and dinner outside! Highly recommend Dexters to anyone!

Spur of the moment decision to go out for dinner and try Dexters. The restaurant was warm and cosy creating a pleasant atmosphere. We both tried different chicken dishes which were extremely tasty and good desserts as well. The staff were very polite and friendly so all in all a very enjoyable eating experience. Definitely will visit again.

Very good for a lockdown meet-up! Came here yesterday for a nice coffee and a small bite to eat. The cakes are really tasty as are their ciabatta rolls (I had a breakfast bap with sausage, egg and bacon). The service is wonderful and the staff are lovely and very friendly. We sat out in the garden terrace bit which is perfectly suited for meeting family and friends safely during the current crisis. There are large spacious tables with well over a metre diameters so it's very easy to keep distanced if you're meeting with friends outside of your bubble. I really enjoyed my meal so I'll definitely be coming back!

Disgusting customer service!! We came in for a coffee, no one greeted us so we sat down. It was busy but a server came up to us and took our coffee order, we had been waiting 15 minutes but we’re patient as it was busy. After 15 minutes a man came up to us and rudely said we have to leave in 20 minutes. We hadn’t even received our coffees! He said the table was ‘reserved’ but there was no reserved sign and when we sat down no one told us. We did not want to rush and so told the lady at the till we are going to leave as we don’t want to rush and she was extremely rude, arguing about it, and gave us no apology. No way to treat customers.

Good food, portion size for the paella is sparing. Hardly any chicken or pork and the size of a starter. All other meals were very nice. Had a problem with one dessert, lemon cake, so very dry. Did complain and it was deducted from the bill. Service from 2 ladies was very good and a nice atmosphere.

I stopped over for the night and spotted this little restaurant down a side alley. Light and inviting so I wondered in. Quickly taken to a seat and served with a drink. Menu sounded nice so I placed my order, service quick and efficient. The place was quite busy so gad a nice vibe going on. My food was tasty and fresh the meatball main was good although if they had been a touch bigger with a bit more seasoning, but in general all good.

Very good food and hearty portions. Lovely ambience. Staff could have been a little more attentive as had to get their attention on a few occasions.

We have been in town for four months and trying diff places every other week. We ate twice at the Italian place down the street, and went back for third but greeting always rubbed me the wrong way so actually turned around and went to Ship Inn. This week we tried Dexter's and it hit the nail on head, the staff is positive, professional, and all around great. We ordered the Greek app plate and 4 tapas plates with wine. Wife said it was the best dinner since we arrived. Good on all fronts. We found out main stay for dinner.

First time at this restaurant for a couples date night which we booked last minute & we was made to feel welcome on entry ! We very much enjoyed our food had the seafood platter to start & my husband had the fillet steak mains I had the lamb rump both was cooked just right & was delicious, the service was also very good ! We would definitely recommend & will definitely be back at some point as we don’t live in the local area but look forward to dining again at some point

Dexter's in Oundle left a positive impression on my recent visit. The service was friendly, and the food was very decent and well-presented, served fairly promptly in a pleasant ambiance. However, the website could benefit from updated pictures. I opted for the Greek-style lamb and feta burger, which proved to be a tasty choice, although there could have been more chips. Others at my table enjoyed mussels with chips, pea risotto, and whitebait, all of which were very adequate. The dessert selection was very pleasant, especially the sticky toffee pudding, which had a notably light sponge. Overall, Dexter's offers a satisfying dining experience.

Such a lovely and friendly place. Reasonably priced. If I lived nearer, it would be a regular place to go. We had coffee and cake. The cake slice was massive.

Excellent Mediterranean food with friendly service. The whitebait were great. I’ve never had a paella with so much spice in it, but the flavour was out of this world. And the caramel apple pie (with a birthday candle) was divine. Definitely on my to do list!

Amazing service and lovely staff. We were unavoidably late for our table, my gran rang to let them know and they were extremely accommodating and happy to wait for us. Couldn’t thank the staff more for being so lovely about it and still serving us with a smile. Will definitely be back, the food was amazing. Thank you to the staff who were on. Great food and lovely accommodating staff

A truly memorable experience, the food was delicious, backed up by friendly, efficient service. We were lucky as the weather was good and we were able to sit in the beautiful courtyard garden. Brilliant atmosphere. Particular thanks to the waitress who very kindly brought our room key back to our hotel when we inadvertently left it behind. Highly recommend this place- will definitely be back.

Maxed their covers via close positioning of tables, difficult to eat once adjacent (ignorant!) diners start standing beside your table whilst having long conversations. Sufficient staff but difficult getting service, took some ‘catching’ for attention. Strange looking rib-eye steak, more like a cheaper/tougher Tri-Tip Sirloin Steak cut, stopped chewing and left much of it. Writing this at 4am with indigestion, still, our dog liked the doggy bag.

We stopped here for lunch on a trip to Oundle. As it was one of the few sunny days so far this summer we opted to sit in the garden which was lovely. We both had a glass of the house Sauvignon Blanc which was excellent and well chilled. My son had a risotto and I had the tuna melt ciabatta which came with chips, coleslaw and mixed salad. The food was very good and the servers pleasant and helpful.

I just pop in for a pot tea and a fruit scone I sat outside it was very pleasant my tea and scone arrived, the tea was ok but the scone was just a package made scone you had to hunt the fruit and it was very dry the two pats of butter were not enough the service was ok but well overpriced for a dry scone

Went for lunch after looking at reviews and frankly wished we hadn’t bothered We both had different chicken main courses which had very little flavour and what looked and tasted like packet sauces Staff were pleasant but don’t bother with the food

Good, prompt service with very friendly, helpful waiting staff & nice busy vibe but just a shame there were no veggies with our meals. A few wisps of pea shoots and a small potato gratin with the meat and sauce but not a single veggie - for nearly £15. Would have liked to see at least some green beans or broccoli etc. There was literally a whole half of the plate of space where it would have made a really big difference to the dishes, had there been a portion of veg. If I had wanted to add peas (seemingly the only veg choice of side dishes) it would have cost an additional £3.95 but I didn’t even think to look at side dishes prior to ordering as I mistakenly assumed it would come with veg. We really wanted to stay local but have recently had better value meals further afield.

Outdoor seating in the shade of umbrellas made it a pleasant experience. We only stayed for a BLT and drink but others were having meals which looked good. Staff were very friendly and efficient.

We went for a special occasion, it was my birthday. The service was a little slow to start, but the staff were lovely, especially our main waitress. Both starters were delicious (gambas and mussels), my main was perfect (meat paella) but my husband’s steak wasn’t fantastic, considering the almost £30 price tag. The waitress ended the night well with a candle in our shared dessert and a rose 🌹

Since we moved here 20 months ago, this lovely restaurant tucked away off the market square has quickly become our 'go-to' place. You leave the market place and walk down a well signposted enclosed passageway and step into a pretty south facing garden which is a sunny place to sit with a coffee. Marina and Adrian, the owners, are a delightful couple who go out of their way to ensure you have a good time at Dexters. They are well supported by a very friendly happy team of front of house staff. The menu has an eclectic range of dishes with an Italian influence and will suit all tastes at very reasonable prices. Locally supplied wines and meats help ensure that this is a quality restaurant. The dishes are always nicely presented, served at the correct temperatures, with good portion sizes, and are always very tasty. One feature which sets this restaurant above many others is that the culinary team always serve up delicious meals consistently and to the same high standard. We thoroughly recommend Dexters as one of Oundle's best!

Excellent coffee. It is a shame we had just had a large breakfast when we stumbled across this lovely little restaurant while wandering around Oundle last weekend. Could only manage a coffee despite being tempted with some delicious looking cakes. We will make a bee line to dine with you the next time we are in the area.

Poor service. Reserved a table via their website .Dexters had written reservation in diary for wrong day. The staff made us wait outside whilst we could prove our reservation.Once they realised their error no apology was offered. This start to the evening sullied the experience. My husbands steak was very good ,my mussels were average(no finger bowl provided), our 2 guests meals were average. A good tiramasu but not exceptional, sticky toffee pudding was good.

We booked one of the outdoor pods to celebrate a family birthday. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the food was delicious. The pod was spacious even with 8 of us dining in it, and beautiful with flowers and fairy lights. Highly recommend!

We had a very nice Saturday lunch. The menu is gluten free and quite wide woth an array if pasta and pizza and rissotto. My mum has a few allergies and the staff were extremely patient. The food was fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is cozy and feels quite poah. Great value and I highly recommend.

Very pleasant staff, menu is good and the dining area is roomy enough with nice lighting. Outside 'bubbles' need to be booked but walk in dining is often possible. My wife's favourite place in Oundle.
