A beautifully clean lovely looking pub. The gardens are immaculate. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The food was absolutely amazing. I had philly steak baguette with cheese, onions and peppers. There was coleslaw, a tomato, cucumber and lettuce salad with a mustard dressing and crispy chunky chips. Sat in the sun. Bliss. Well worth a visit and I will definitely be coming back

My parents and I visited this pub on a for Sunday lunch and a midweek evening meal during our holiday in the area. Pub spotlessly clean. Service was excellent with really friendly, smiley staff. Portions are huge. Would highly recommend the Sunday lunch here.

Another lovely experience at the Devonshire Arms for dad's birthday. Friendly staff, great service and food was above average. The portions are excellent and the Smoked Haddock & Spring Onion Fish cakes with Asparagus and poached egg was simply perfect :) lovely outdoor area/beer garden. Thank you.

On arrival we were really impressed with the setting and customer service in seating us in the covered gazebo and taking our order. The starters were nice and well presented but unfortunately one of the main meals and service there after let it down. I ordered the burger and was it served raw in places, I then had to seek out a waitress who also looked shocked at how raw it was and I asked if I could have it well done. When they returned with a new burger I was told it was the correct temperature but would have a pink pigment in places. As a man who eats my steak mid rare usually I wouldn’t have a problem with that but again on cutting into the burger is was cold and red raw again. The waitress returned and said that’s “how it is” with no resolution or apology. It was a shame as all meals were well presented and it is the most expensive portion of chips I have ever paid for. You can see from our other reviews we very rarely complain and always look for the positive and promote businesses but this was a disappointing anniversary treat.

The Devonshire Arms is a lovely pub with a great outdoor seating area, staff are friendly and attentive. Food was great, you can get a normal or small sized Sunday dinner which is a great option if you don’t have a huge appetite. The calamari starter was the best calamari ever, really tasty and not rubbery at all. 10/10 will definitely be back.

Great food, lovely beer garden and great location with excellent parking facilities. Went while eat out to help out was on so great value for money.

Had lunch here today. Full attention paid to Covid 19 regulations. Hand sanitiser., one way system . Your table is already allocated & prepared( clean & ready) tables well spaced Staff very friendly & attentive. Menu extensive, food excellent. We enjoyed a great lunch & will certainly recommend & will be going back.

Myself and my wife went for dinner on their 1st night open after CVD19 restrictions were lifted. We were welcomed at the door by Lynn, who showed us where the nearest hand sanitiser was and then she walked us to our table using the new one way system. When we arrived at our table we were asked to keep to the one way system if we needed to use the facilities or go outside etc. and it was table service only (no going to the bar). We were told our table had been thorough sanitised before our arrival and the paper menus would be thrown away after we had used them. Lynn then told us that the menu choices had been slightly reduced but after looking at the menu we couldn’t see a huge difference and there was a special board offering further choices. All systems go...We started with fish cakes sitting on asparagus topped with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce and baked mushrooms in a cheesy sauce with toasted bread. Really lovely and well sized. Next up was lamb shank and an individual steak and kidney pie. The lamb just fell off the bone, so succulent and the pie was filled to bursting with gorgeous pastry. Both were served with their own gravy and mash potatoes and veg. The mash was just the same as before lockdown, creamy and dreamy but still had a good consistency and the veg was buttered peas and cabbage. Absolutely lovely. Although feeling full it would have been a crime not to try the home made white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake with a side of ice cream, which was incredible and cleverly done! Even my wife, who doesn’t like cheesecake, tasted it and was blown away by how lovely it was. The standard of the food hasn’t dropped from before lockdown and neither has the service Lynn, Sam and Chris have done an excellent job in making sure their team and their customers are as safe as possible with the new restrictions and procedures in place.

Went in 2 weeks ago, and again today. Both on walks. Both experiences fantastic. Was greeted today by Chris, looked after us, good food friendly staff. Would recommend to anyone, are going to go back for a evening meal soon.👌

After having a look around Mellor church we called in for lunch with some friends. We were well looked after and the food was excellent. The pub itself was very smart and clean.Thanks.

Had an evening meal here one night on a cold,wet evening. The place was warm and welcoming and service was initially prompt. Food excellent, and a range of reasonable wines on offer, but just one minor blip when we'd finished our dinner - we were left for well over 20 minutes without offer of pudding / coffee / more drinks. We didn't actually want any but may have been pursauded, so not a big deal to us!

My daughter and partner took us to meet his parents for a meal here. The place had a nice warm atmosphere about it from our arrival. Service was very good and the food was top notch. I had the best fish pie I’ve tasted in a long while. If not the best. Good size portions too. It’s a little gem of a place.Wish it was closer to home. As I would be a regular.

Dinner for 2 on a Thursday night; absolutely delicious!New menu and wow...absolutely gorgeous. I had Slow Roasted Belly Pork with mash, buttered cabbage and peas and apple sauce. The pork was cooked to perfection, with a beautiful crispy crackling. The Mrs has Lamb Shank, mash and buttered cabbage and peas. The meat fell off the bone. It looked amazing and I wasn’t allowed to try it! I always think that if a restaurant/pub is busy mid week then it’s definitely worth a visit. The staff were attentive and the atmosphere was chilled. Really worth a visit.

My family and I came here for my birthday meal this year after having a fantastic experience a few months ago. As much as I was excited to come and the decore is beautiful the food wasnt as amazing as the first time we went, it was also Christmas eve, They didn't have the Christmas menu on :( that was disappointing really.

The Sunday menu had a good choice. The food was amazing and great service we will definitely be returning

Went today with my wife and daughter to celebrate my birthday and what a fantastic place to both eat and drink . The food and service were excellent and could not fault in anyway . We would recommend that, if you are planning to have a meal , you get there at or just after opening time of 12:00 . We gor there for 12:15 and it was already quite busy . If you are having a meal the staff will direct you to a table and will serve your drinks there which is really great as some places insist on you buying the drinks at the bar. You are given plenty of time to decide on your choice and once made the food is delivered quicky and is piping hot . If you are in the area , Mellor , Marple New Mills etc definitely make a visit to this fantastic pub .

On holiday in the area, saw the pub online and as it was only 5 minutes from our accommodation decided to pop in, was quite busy for a Wendesday lunchtime even though we got there just half an hour after opening.. Served immediately by a waitress who took our drinks order then came back for the food order. Service was very quick, food was piping hot and generous portion sizes. Great value for money, would definitely visit again when next in the area.

I must admit,i was very pleasantly surprised by this little gem.Lived in New Mills all my life and never visited before.I has had some investment and what a great job they have done.Great beer garden,fantastic beer and very scrummy food.The service was excellent too.Will definitely be going back soon.

We stopped off for a celebratory birthday lunch and were very pleased with our visit. The pub has a cosy appeal and is nicely decorated inside. The restaurant and toilets are very clean. There are a number of options for indoor and outdoor seating with a well maintained beer garden.

we arrived to meet friends tonight for a drink. Their website advises that the pub is open until 10.30. 3 of us arrived at 9 and were served - the last friend arrived at 9.40 and was refused service because 'they had closed'. The bar staff did not warn us of an early closure but the manager when called informed us that 'everyone knows we close at 9.30 on a sunday''. well we didn't and we are local and according to their website they are still open! well they are not and it seemed a very customer unfriendly attitude to adopt.

Came last Sunday for a family get together, there were 9 of us so quite a big table. The staff were very helpful and informative but when the food arrived it was very bland. One of the party had fish and chips and it had no taste at all, I had the curry which tasted like a shop bought curry sauce. Also disappointing that only the Sunday menu was available as they'd picked a poor selection of dishes off the main menu.

Had a wonderful lunch with mum today. We both had scampi but the Banoffee Sundae was the highlight of the meal! The staff are so helpful and the service is excellent. Will be back soon.

Had a lovely meal, really nice pub. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Except one staff member when we first arrived informed us there were no tables and there was no point in waiting. Fortunately we noticed people leaving and we took their table. This staff member needs more customer service training. It’s a shame as other members of staff were extremely nice.

Decided to call in for something to eat on our way home this evening, and glad we did, the pub has had a huge refurbishment since our last visit and looks fantastic. The food was really good, generous portions, and very well cooked & presented. Very impressed.

It's years since I have been to this establishment but friends we were going out with have been recently and suggested we all went here. No issues what soever (Well apart from the poring rain which the pub could do nothing about). Good food, good service and friendly staff. At 64 I no longer have a huge appetite and having read the reviews on TA before hand I asked if they did a small portion on the fish & chips. They kindly obliged at £4 cheaper and was more than sufficient for me. One friend had the normal F & C which was a very good sized portion and my wife and other friend had the Sunday roast which to me was a huge portion but they managed to polish it off. We didn't have room for deserts but instead ordered coffees. I said I would like a Sauvignon Blanc coffee. My wine was brought out first but when the coffees arrived with Lotus biscuits I was given a biscuit for my Sauvignon Blanc coffee - very amusing and I did eat it after I had finished my wine !!!!! Would recommend. Unfortunately we could not take advantage of the outside area because of the inclement weather but the outside area did look inviting in the right circumstances. Keep up the good work !!!!

Pre booked a table and no issues. We arrived ordered a drink at the bar, shown to our table and ordered our food. The black pudding Bon Bon’s was delicious, they was just delightful! We ordered the fish and chips and creamy chicken bacon pasta, both was lovely! I have put pictures below. The fish was one of the best I had. The portions are quite large too.

I visited this pub/restaurant quite recently and was surprised at the high quality of food and service. Food lovely and hot and not too long to wait. Whilst not the cheapest in the area, excellent value for money with food freshly prepared and nicely presented

Brought my mum (88) here for a very late lunch on a drizzly Monday afternoon. Although not busy, there was a steady number of customers and locals coming in and out. We were given a genuinely friendly welcome by the staff. I had a delicious curry (offered with chips and rice as well as nan bread!) and my mum was kindly offered a light bite alternative of one of her favourites - scampi, chips and peas. My mum was very pleased with the quality of the food. She's a fussy eater these days and as she reminds me, was a fishmonger for 12+ years. So, little gets past her. Well done Devonshire Arms - great service, good quality, fairly priced food in a clean, attractive pub. Can life get any better?!

Baked mushrooms swimming in oil, King prawns over cooked on two different dishes like eating rubber bands coated in a heavy batter, onions absolutely shocking more batter than onion. Grilled mushroom like came straight out of crematorium. Staff seemed like they didn't want to be there no customer skills, lacked customer service. Should of gone to nandos

Love this place, we’ve been a handful of times now. The menu is really varied, the staff are really accommodating and the environment is perfect for gastro pub dining.

Extensive menu to tempt every taste. Hard to go past traditional favourites which never disappoint. Food is delicious, service very prompt and staff are very friendly - a real community pub with great ambiance 😊

In the last couple of years this has been through a rough patch but recent reports from friends suggested it was much improved so on a whim I went for a meal ( rather than just a drink which I have also been for in recent months). The car park was crammed on a quiet night which is always a hopeful sign..though also a reminder that if you want to eat booking might be sensible. Food is reasonably priced, all was good (with the exception of some very ordinary chips) and service was prompt & friendly.

Had a really tasty vegan lunch today,including a gorgeous chocolate dessert with blueberries.Made a nice change from the usual Linds Mc ,sausages that I`m usually offered as my "vegan option" staff are very pleasant and helpful,will definately be visiting again

We had a lovely meal here on bank holiday Monday. Between the four of us we shared the cheesy mushrooms, black pudding bonbons and fish cakes to start. It was plenty to all share, and we were all happy we shared as the black pudding and mushrooms would have been too rich to have on your own... so yummy in flavour though!

We called in here today on the spur of the moment to see if we could get a sneaky Sunday lunch without reservation. Luckily as we were early it wasn't a problem and we were soon seated as a table of 4 with a smile. First impressions are really good as it's been beautifully refurbished to a high standard, and the waiting team were all attentive and welcoming.

A wonderful afternoon lunch with family and friends and nothing was too much trouble for them. Lynn and team were most attentive from the outset and made the event really special. Everybody remarked how much they enjoyed the food and my rump steak was perfect! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The wine, Jackman's Landing Shiraz was really tasty (and powerful) and a pleasant change from my usual Dizzy Blonde tipple. A great place to spend the afternoon, dining. A thoroughly happy and memorable experience. Thank you.

If decent pub grub is what you are looking for this place is perfect. To be honest, I am fed up of going out for a meal & ending up having fish & chips every time. Personally I would rather pay extra & have a something special

Went with a friend for lunch. Excellent varied menu with wide choice including small portions of some meals, great idea and good value. Lovely staff, service with a smile even asking them to change a beer as it didn't taste quite right was done with good grace. Would recommend and will be back.

Left a previously bad review but have been several times in the last few months & it’s become a firm favourite of ours. The refurb is fantastic, the food faultless & the service second to none. It has repeatedly been excellent each time we have visited & for all of these reasons one of our first choices to visit when choosing where to eat.

Yet another lovely meal with great friends. 4 meals consisted of the pesto pasta dish, a beef stroganoff, the hickory chicken (special board) and the gorgeous steak and kidney pie! The team are always welcoming, nice and friendly and always make time to say hello to our 4 legged furbaby.

Another fabulous night at the Devvy, lovley staff, fabulous food, great beer and wine, love the place, can,t wait for next visit. Fireman John

After returning home I became very ill with food poisoning and spent the entire next day being sick. I wouldn't recommend eating here. Very cold atmosphere and bar staff had no people skills.

My wife and Family visited this Pub a few times .And I have to admit its always clean light good atmosphere . Food excellent .To put it simple Excellent . No Issues whatsoever . Well done to all the Staff for excellent service .

Nice atmosphere, comfortable seats and plenty of room between tables. The menu selection was a good range of traditional pub fayre. We had starters and main courses. The main courses of Steak & Ale Pie and Steak & Kidney pie were both excellent, cooked nicely and good quality meat. Both the courses were nicely presented and tasted as good as it looked. Very good value for money, and the staff were very pleasant.

the food here is reasonably priced and excellent, the staff are really helpful and nothing is too much trouble all in all a really good pud and dinning experiance, it is also excellently decorated.

Food was lovely shall be visiting again. Lovely atmosphere and the pub has being restored to an excellent standard.

The recent refurbishment was long overdue, and this was our first visit since. The pub is now far more contemporary than before and just about manages to retain that “cosy country pub” feel.

We are regular visitors and are never disappointed. Went for lunch on Thursday and had a madras curry - best ever! The food is always excellent and the customer service is superb. Will be back soon!

La tarta fue genial PERO, no entiendo por qué hacen una tarta de bandeja fantástica, luego cortan un pedazo y lo juntan en un tazón de cerámica, por qué no simplemente ponen el trozo de tarta en el plato, se vería mejor. Pero - ¡No todo estaba perdido, fantástico pastel sabroso!

Really lovely place,staff very friendly and attentive,I asked when I booked if there was a vegan option and there were 4! I opted for pasta which was delicious,there was even vegan dessert,which I have never been offered before. My two companions were really pleased with their choices and we have decided we will definitely be visiting again.

Local in Marple and sorry to say I have not been since it was refurbed 12 months ago. Not disappointed, Who ever at Robinsons oversee's the work know their job well. I used to know Oliver Robinson a while back and I think its a member of the family. It shows. Its wonderful. Fairly quiet when we went in for a late lunch but ambience oozes from the building. Great beer (always with Robinsons!) really amazing steak pie and chips. Staff bubbly and on it. If I could improve.....it would be the Irish coffee...they did have a go but needs more sugar and thicker cream!!! I will return to check!! But really well done and thanks for a lovely long lazy afternoon

We hadn't been here for a while but decided to go for lunch today. First of all we thought the place looked great, its transformed from what it previously looked like. Its now both modern and traditional. The dig was welcome which is great for us.

Clean and bright, welcoming staff and the food was well presented and delicious to taste. A good choice of wines and well stocked bar.

We visited with friends 4 children and three adults. We sat outside in the sunshine. The food was excellent, delicious. Staff friendly. Chips were a favourite. Not the cheapest lunch but it was a nice dining experience. Definitely go back.

Called in a couple of weeks ago after a morning's walking in the area. My walking colleague and I ordered soup & tuna mayo sandwiches, one on white and one on brown. The soup arrived with a knife & fork and the tuna arrived on ciabatta bread which neither of us are keen on and both left half. Don't think we will calling in again.

We hadn’t been to the Devonshire arms for many years as it had become a bit gloomy and the food wasn’t so good so it came as a big surprise when we went last Friday after a recommendation at the dramatic turn around. Open, airy, tables not too close, nice decor and pleasant atmosphere. The food we had was traditional pub fair, fish and chips, steak and ale pie and scampi, nothing fancy but it was all well cooked, fresh and nicely presented plus the plates were hot! Also I have to say the staff were all very helpful and couldn’t have been better. One very small downside that the Devonshire couldn’t do anything about was the abundance of loud ladies that lunch!

Went back to the Devonshire on the 7th of July, what a difference, last year worst experience, this time new owners, fantastic service really polite helpful barstaff, really good food, well done.

Love what brewery have done to the place. Great interior, so much more room now the silly rooms have gone and been replaced with an upto date open space . Food is traditional pub grub, which is ok as not trying to be a gastro pub, its not the best pub food you'll have but passable, however i think its a little pricey for such basic cuisine. The outside area is fab, lots of tables and probably the best place in the area to enjoy a summer drink.

Came here on Saturday night with 7 members of family. Service was excellent from start to finish. The food was amazing! Had a slight problem with my chicken meal but this was rectified immediately. The staff were great, nothing was to much trouble. Credit to the chef! Will be having plenty more family and friends meals here. Would highly recommend.

The family visited for Sunday lunch and between the 7 of us ordered a variety of dishes. The staff and service were excellent and the pub has been refurbished to a high standard with a pleasant ambiance.

I visited here on bank holiday Monday at around 6pm with my husband after reading the good reviews and having not been since the new owners took over.

What a lovely restaurant!!! Staff are friendly and inviting!! The home-cooked food is superb and it’s a generous plateful!! Would highly recommend the Devonshire and will definitely return!!!

Wish this was my local! Beautifully decorated pub, no detail overlooked. Staff were really friendly and attentive, and the lamb Sunday roast was to die for - probably one of the nicest I've had when eating out, especially the gravy and yorkshire pudding! The sticky toffee pudding is a must, homemade and simply delicious. Cannot wait to come back!

This place has really raised its game. Visited with my family and the dervice and food was first class. There sunday roast is excellent value. Will definitely go again.

Came with family for lunch. Greeting on arrival was nearly non existent and everyone seemed stressed/ inattentive, particularly the lady who I think is the manageress. Waitresses were sullen and the man who I think was the manager not particularly friendly. We were seated promptly. Order wasn’t taken for some 15 mins so we went to bar to order to be told our order would be taken at the table. Food arrived within 20 mins so not bad. Food (burgers, sandwiches & fish platter) was good though chunky chips could’ve been a bit crispier. Decent food, nice refurbed decor, just a shame about the grumpy service.

We’ve been to this lovely place a few times since the refurbishment and re opening! We’re always warmly welcomed by the friendly staff. On our last visit it was fish night and I had the pan fried sea bream with crushed new potatoes,asparagus and a beautiful creamy fricasse! Delicious! The food is always good here and the welcome is always warm. I can’t wait for the sun to start shining as they have a fabulous huge beer garden at the back!! Highly recommend this place.
