Fabulous Tradition English Pub. Warm and Cosy, staff welcoming I had the Scampi and my husband had a Steak. Both meals were delicious and generous sized portions. Too full for a desert, but they did have a good selection. Will be back soon.

Super food and excellent service. Really good value an fs a good selection of beers. I would selection definitely come again.

This is a great pub which serves very good food, including gluten-free and vegetarian options. I had the pulled lamb shepherds pie with vegetables which was rich and delicious. There is a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including many ales, cocktails, and a variety of teas so something for everyone! The staff were friendly and welcoming. I hope to return soon.

We always pop to the Devonshire Arms when in Hartington, a warm reception every time from Kieran & team (& Dallas when he’s not in the kitchen). On this occasion we’d booked for dinner, can always guarantee great service & this occasion was no exception, well cooked pub grub washed down with some local ale (always a fine selection). Have stayed a number of times & highly recommend this also.

After a lovely day exploring we ventured to the Devonshire arms as a family of 4. We received a warm welcome and were quickly shown to our table. The food was excellent and testament to that were the 4 clean plates left at the end of the meal. The service was excellent and our two waitresses did a great job. The food and atmosphere was so good that we booked in for the following night.

We have had a lovely stay in this beautiful country pub in the heart of the Peak District. Dallas and the team provided excellent service and we felt really at home from the time we arrived to the time we left. The room was stunning and you could clearly see they take pride in the design and upkeep of the bedrooms. Well worth a visit!

What a fabulous place in the centre of Hartington overlooking the village. We were staying in the village for 3 nights and had a few drinks here over the weekend, perfect spot to catch the end of sun at the front with plenty of tables available, then nothing better than heading inside to warm up in the cosy surroundings, especially with an old fashioned to drink. We ate here on the Sunday, nice menu and we chose the pie and cottage pie followed by apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding, washed down with a nice bottle of Malbec, staff were attentive and friendly, thoroughly enjoyed our visit thank you!

Having eaten in some gorgeous Peak District Devonshire Arms, we were anticipating a similar experience. We were really disappointed as it was just not in line with what we had expected. The coffee machine had stopped working but the apology just did not seem heart felt; rather flippant. That manner was heard with other tables also as ‘Oh sorry for my tardiness’ to the next table who had waited ages for their order to be taken. Another table had to inform the staff that a meal just hadn’t arrived. Again, the follow up just did not seem sincere. The main issue was the portion size. My seabass and risotto was small and the seabass was small and badly cooked. I informed one of the staff but nothing taken off the bill. I ordered some parmesan potatoes and asked if they were like little roasties. I was told yes but they were deep fried croquettes and nothing like roasties! They were lovely but not what I had thought I was ordering. The next table also had main courses that looked more like large starters. So a disappointing Sunday dinner as a roast would have been spot on…”Oh we don’t do roasts in the summer!’ Not a pub for tourists hoping for a traditional Sunday lunch!

Staff were unnecessarily difficult. We arrived after a lovely day but were unfortunately greeted by a cold welcome. We ordered bar snacks as there was an offer advertised, however the offer did not apply on Sundays. There was no mention of this anywhere on the advertisement. There was no way the staff were budging despite falsely advertising the deal. We also asked for a bowl of soup which they offer in the restaurant but they weren’t willing to make any exceptions whatsoever to have it in the bar area (even though the pub was quiet). The overall service offered was rude and unhelpful. A real shame as we were really looking forward to our visit. It doesn’t take much to give good service.

This truly is one of the best Pubs I’ve been in. We had a lovely, genuine welcome. The staff were wonderful. The food was the icing on the cake. Decent portions freshly cooked. We will definitely be back! Highly recommended

We went to this terrific pub for lunch on two occasions during a week’s walking holiday. The welcome, service, food and ambience were all five stars. The second time we visited wanted a table and coffee while we spent a couple of hours doing some pre-planning for our son’s upcoming wedding. This was made so easy and we weren’t made to feel at all awkward about doing this. So much so, we stayed on for lunch and drinks (partly to say thank you to the v accommodating staff). Don’t miss a visit as you’ll be so glad you went!

Cosy, stylish, friendly and everything a country pub should be. Honestly, I can't recommend The Devonshire Arms highly enough. After our visit last Saturday afternoon it's shot up top the top of our favourite pubs - and the Peak District isn't exactly short of a few excellent pubs by way of competition. The lounge bar is low-beamed and cosy with the warming real fire you always hope to see, and there was an excellent choice of ales. We turned up about 2.30 and thought we might be too late to eat, but the team said if we got our orders in we'd be OK. I was a little reluctant to leave the snug for the dining room at first, but when I saw it I beamed - the decoration and furnishings, the lighting and the arrangement of tables makes it feel like you've walked into informal Georgian sitting room with 21st century touches, and it was every bit as inviting as the snug bar. And we could take our puppy dog in too. The food was delicious and reasonably priced - I had the mushroom suet pudding/pie, my partner went for a burger and my 11-year old daughter tucked into vegetarian sausages and mash. There was a great selection to choose from. We didn't go into the public bar but it looked like a proper pub bar should and I can imagine sitting in there with the dog chatting to locals over a pint of an evening. The landlords were so friendly and accommodating, we really didn't want to leave, I promised I'd mention their sartorial elegance if I left a review, so her it is ;o)

Outstanding - the most friendly staff - Kieran Nathan Natasha Becky faith and chef - everyone went above and beyond for us - from welcoming our dog our food was super 👌 our room ( room 1 ) was absolutely beautiful you even sorted out our Netflix ! After an upsetting experience I decided to leave the below Google review. Mimicked for having a life threatening peanut allergy. Entered the bar to see a lot of customers eating peanuts which is of course a normal hazard for me in pubs and absolutely no one else’s responsibility to risk assess other than mine. Due to the space being small and so many people eating the peanuts i simply turned to my husband and said ‘sorry we’ll have to go somewhere else it’s too peanuty in here for me’. Before I had left the room the bar staff mimicked my voice and starting laughing at me ‘it’s too peanuty for her apparently!’ I just thought this was completely unnecessary, unexpected plus incredibly rude! These women were at least in their 60’s not teenage girls! This was a true reflection of a negative experience in this pub after a lovely day out in Hartington. I wasn’t expecting a response but hoped if they did read it they’d educate themselves about allergy awareness and be less likely to poke fun at their customers whilst still in the room! I was happy to leave it at this but after an extremely snarky reply from the owner/manager (and after reading other reviews that mention the rude staff) I hope that the team take some time to reevaluate the way they treat customers.

Just perfect! Lovely staff with a warm welcome, the room we stayed in was stunning- spotless, cosy and beautifully decorated, with a luxurious ambience. Food was delicious and the bar was super cute with a great selection. We hope to return one day, thanks so much for a lovely experience!

We booked for my mum’s birthday on Christmas Eve, which happened to fall on a Sunday. This was booked way in advance, however we received an email only the night before saying the roast menu was not going to be available and only a smaller menu would be, which gave us no chance to book elsewhere. We got to the pub for our booking. The room was freezing, there was absolutely no atmosphere and we had to order at the bar as there was no table service. Many of the dishes were unavailable, including the pie, no sticky toffee pudding and they were completely out of vanilla ice cream. We got tue impression that they were saving all the food for Christmas Day bookings. The food itself was ok, but overall disappointing and you don’t really want to eat in your coat when you go out for lunch.

Travelled from Stockport for lunch on Friday. Checked the menu on the website before setting off and were looking forward to the light lunch options as advertised as being served Monday to Saturday. On arrival we were told that no such menu is served and that there was no sandwich/wrap/light lunch menu. The only menu available was the main menu. Like a previous reviewer we were advised to go the sandwich shop up the road. What a wasted trip and a very misleading website. I note from the reviews published that others have experienced the same problem.
