WOW!!! Whilst stating at the Powfoot Hotel we enjoyed 3 meals here & they were all amazing! The food is servedlike a tapas style which was a gdnius idea! You get to try a few different dishes during 1 meal & they are served when each dish is ready which means you don't feel full as quickly :) The flavours & attention to detail made this some of the best food we have ever eaten! Will definitely be back!!

Absolutely outstanding food for quality and price! We couldn’t decide what to order and so we literally ordered one of everything off the menu! The haggis stovies have me converted, the fillet of beef with chimichurri was drool worthy and the veal burger from the bar menu was delicious. Can’t wait to see what new treats will be on the menu when we return to Scotland next year!

We went to Del amitri last night for dinner. It is located within Powfoot hotel. For the non locals and the users of sat nav do not despair as you travel into what appears empty farmlands. Stick with it and all will be revealed when you reach the coast and minutes later the hotel. There are stunning views from the hotel and restaurant within. We were greeted warmly and shown to our table. We had booked early that day. Booking ahead is essential here. We were in the restaurant but meals are also served in the bar. I cannot give any details on the bar. The menu at this restaurant is strange in that one chooses 2/3 dishes and maybe a side dish all of which come in tapas style whenever they are ready. It is an interesting and almost novel way to dine. The food had a Mediterranean/ British feel to it. We had various dishes , 3 each and a side each including crayfish/samphire salad, roast chicken on a bean cassoulet and haggis stovies. About 80% of the way through the meal we had to wave the white flag. Maybe 2 dishes and a side each next time. Dessert and coffee ended our amazing visit. This is not a restaurant for those on a budget. We did not grudge a penny of our bill for this amazing gourmet experience but I had to make this point clear. We have also earmarked the hotel for our next visit to the area. The staff have advised it can be an “interesting “ location in rougher sea conditions. A restaurant not to be missed.

Another wedding anniversary visit for us, and yet again a lovely meal , excellent service and the view over the Solway. Having eaten here a few times we have got to trust the chefs , and are willing to go out on a limb taste wise and try something. We have yet to be let down. The food is always superb, with wonderful taste combinations. The service from our charming waitress was at once efficient , friendly, and knowledgeable, without ever bordering on over or under attentive. They seem to be on top of all aspects of the dining experience here from the moment you walk through the door to the moment you leave. Highly recommended

This was our first visit and we were extremely impressed. Staff were super friendly, the menu was fantastic, the food was packed with flavour and imagination and the presentation was flawless. The restaurant is a nice size making it intimate instead of noisy. Background music was just right as was the table layout. Looking forward to going in the summer with the views through those big windows.

All the dishes we tried had clearly been well thought out with great attention to detail. There were several favours on the plate, which complimented each other beautifully. Definetly try something different if you enjoy new foods, but there are also the pub classics like lasagne and burgers for those who want to stick to what they know. I'm sure these are delicious too. My only regret is not visiting sooner! We will certainly be returning to try more of the menu.

We had travelled from Cheshire en route to Isle of Arran and wanted to eat in the Hotel's restaurant. Had a meal here as a family. Must say it lived up to the reviews and we really enjoyed our evening. We were served by a lovely lady who said she only worked weekends, she should work more, she was a delight. Not in your face but very attentive and down to earth. The food was anything but “down to earth”. More like out of this world, we will definitely be back. Had heard mixed reviews so decided to try for ourselves, we were all very hungry and looking forward to a meal. When we arrived it wssnt very busy. We sat at a table and waited...and waited. Nobody acknowledged us so we asked for a menu at the bar. There wasnt a huge choice on the menu but we chose and waited...and waited. Decided to order at the bar to be told somebody would come to the table, but again waited and waited. The waitresses kept walking past but never looked our way, so we left. Lisa and her staff all make you welcome, on our visit today we both had the crab dish my wife went for her normal beef main while I had lamb then we both went for the warm banana dessert. It is advisable that you book ahead as it is a very busy restaurant. The price is on par with a lot of eating places today but the food here has to be tasted to be appreciated. The people that moan about the prices here should stick to there two meals for £10 at there local pub they obviously don’t appreciate fine dining.

This was a last minute decision and booking on a Sunday. The restaurant and hotel overlook the sea and an unspoilt coastline. The restaurant takes full advantage of these views. We had the 2 course Sunday lunch for £18. I chose the Scottish mussels with bacon in a creamy sauce and my husband had a wild garlic leaf mousse. Both were beautifully presented and tasted divine. Then we opted for the traditional roast beef, Yorkshire pudding etc. It was both plentiful and delicious. Everyone was very pleasant and service was excellent. Best meal we have had in ages, fine dining at everyday prices. We will definitely return.

Lovely restaurant with great views. The meal was nice...ccould maybe have been a bit more on the plate. We went on a Sunday and unfortunately only one starter and main option for vegetarians. The starter was nice although small, the main was ok..didn't have much flavour and could have done with some gravy or jus as it was quite dry and bland...I did ask and they gave me some kind of flavoured mayo which didn't really make it any better. The desserts were nice. Staff were very friendly and happy to help..prices reasonable.

We decided to have lunch here after it was recommended by quite a few of the locals at Gretna. We met up with friends and had a delicious lunch including dessert. Our friends had many questions about the food and the staff were able to answer questions knowledgeable. It has a very peaceful and relaxing ambiance and although they did initially comment that I wasn't able to bring my dog inside they were quite apologetic when I educated them regarding the public access rights of Assistance Dogs. Perhaps some staff education would be helpful in this regard.

This was a great find. We'd visited Del Amitri when it was a restaurant in nearby Annan and really wanted to revisit. When I googled it and found that it was now part of the Powfoot Hotel we were doubly delighted! The hotel is beautifully situated right on the very breezy edge of the Solway Firth at the end of the road, so no traffic noise etc. The room was spotlessly clean and well appointed, with a massive bed. Gorgeous white thick towels also provided. A very brisk walk then a lazy bath and down for dinner. The staff were a joy! Attentive, helpful and just lovely. Having visited Del Amitri at their Annan High St location several times we thought we should try out the new location at Powfoot. To say that it did not disappoint would be an understatement, the quality of both the food and the service was outstanding, and the new location lends a very pleasant atmosphere to the whole event. Both waitresses were attentive without "hovering" and very friendly throughout the evening. We always trust the chef here and often try things which ordinarily might be a taste challenge for us , but always the combination of tastes and texture works. the red wine is always served at room temperature to enhance the flavour. To those few on here who have challenged this restaurant on price and quantity, I would say this, I am blessed with a very healthy appetite and can "shift" a good quantity of food at a sitting, but I have never left Del Amitri after three courses with wine and felt anything other than comfortably replete. As for price , I often stay in large chain hotels in the West Midlands for business, and I can tell you that, if a Sirloin steak meal for less than £19 , and a quality burger for less than £10, is available in these hotels , I have yet to find it, £23 and £13 would be nearer the mark. We look forward to our next visit.

This restaurant is located in the Powfoot Golf Hotel just outside Annan. Our party of eight dined there during our self catering stay in the town. Our first observation was its superb location looking out over the Solway Firth. The sun had started to set and therefore the view looking towards the mountains of the Lake District was so atmospheric. Our next observation was the quality of the service; it could not have been better. The three young ladies working there were so polite, patient and efficient supervised by another lady who seemed to be the manager or owner. Then came the food and we were not disappointed. Starters included Dunsyre blue cheese mousse, pickled vegetables, baked croutes, walnut and honey, vinaigrette, celery leaves; an incredible dis,. My rolled ham hock and foie gras ballontine, pea puree, mustard mayonnaise, beetroot, quail egg and dried gingerbread was sensational. My rib-eye steak, hand cut chips, tomato, flat mushroom roasted, onion, puttanesca sauce was cooked to perfection. My only criticism is that the menu stated that it came with hand cut chips. I have to say they looked suspiciously like those we buy in Aldi. The rest of our party had grilled Scottish plaice fillet, slow cooked cow’s cheek and pulled pork burgers. Not one complaint. Prices are pretty reasonable so all in all a very pleasant experience and we can really recommend this establishment.

We dined in the restaurant during Del Amitri's first week in Powfoot and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience (see earlier review). That time we booked a table but this time four of us called in on a Friday evening without a booking on the off-chance of a cancellation allowing us to dine. There had been no cancellations but we were told we could enjoy the same menu in the Bar - no need to book. We decided to take up the offer and we were not disappointed. Once we had 'registered' at the bar we received excellent service (for both food and drink) throughout the evening. Whilst we didn't have the 'dedicated' server that we had in the restaurant there were plenty of staff and they were very friendly and attentive. The menu was the same as in the restaurant and we enjoyed starters, mains, side orders - and two of us had room for dessert. All quickly served and delicious and in very pleasant surroundings. First time in the new restaurant in Powfoot. Loved the view of the Solway and the lovely decor. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Food was very nicely presented and tasted really good. Would have liked a choice of steaks as I prefer fillet. However the meal was enjoyed by all with everything fresh and served nice and hot. The prosecco by the glass was very nice and a generous measure for £5. Will be back again soon.

Wasn't sure when they moved from Annan to Powfoot. How wrong was I. Food up to its usual excellent standard, staff friendly and attentive without being in your face. Stunning location. Wish we'd booked a window table but will know for next visit.

After an enjoyable evening meal on Wednesday night we decided to try the renowned Sunday lunch, we were not disappointed. We were going to have the 2 course menu but for an extra £1.40 we went for the 3 course option. Starters of blue cheese mousse and smoked salmon were delicious. The mains of pork in a very tasty sauce and perfectly cooked local roast beef really hit the taste buds. Portions were just right to enjoy our desserts of Del Amitri rice pudding and sticky toffee pudding with a hint of cinnamon rounded the meal off nicely. The only downside was when we got the bill I pointed out they had missed a couple of drinks off. The poor waitress was so apologetic and went to get an amended bill. Again well done Lisa and Martin, looking forward to getting the recipe for the langustine ketchup from Martin on our next visit

Visited on a weeknight with my daughter for what we thought was going to be a bar meal (we entered through the hotel entrance and not that of the restaurant) and the only thing we could eat on the menu was a steak which was average and over priced to say the least, the menu is definitely not that of a hotel in a small seaside resort. Hopefully these are just 'bedding in' issues and that the menu can be adapted to show the difference between Del Amitri and Powfoot Hotel. The saving grace was the staff were very helpful and attentive.

We went to Del Amitri @Powfoot with high expectations having enjoyed many fine dining experiences at Del Amitri @Annan. Del Amitri @Annan was definitely in our top 5 for fine dining in Dumfries and Galloway with intimate atmosphere, superb food and Lisa a most welcoming host. So what has changed? Difficult to fault the setting as the views across the Solway Firth are quite stunning. Lisa and her staff were as welcoming as ever but the fine seems to have gone out of the dining. The flowers and the tablecloths are nowhere to be seen. The menu, which used to be one you opened, has been replaced by a laminated sheet with food on one side and wine on the other - more bistro than fine dining. Starters and puddings were well up to Del Amitri @Annan standard even if the mango pannacotta trio is now served in a glass and not on a slate, but mains definitely lacked the Del Amitri @Annan touch. We can only imagine that Lisa and Martin have done their homework and concluded that a different sort of dining experience was going to work better for them in Powfoot. The bill including tip for 3 courses and a bottle of very nice Prosecco came to £75 though I would happily have paid extra for a little more of that old Del Amitri magic. At the time of writing there were 106 reviews of the Powfoot Golf Hotel but only one of these was written since Lisa and Martin took it over; and 171 reviews of Del Amitri Restaurant only 8 of which were from people who had dined at Powfoot. All 8 gave Del Amitri @Powfoot an excellent rating. It will be interesting to see what others make of the changes...

Wow. Made welcome as soon as we walked through the door, we said we had a table booked and was asked if we would like to go to our table or have a drink in the bar first, no hurrying. Ordered our meal while sat in the bar and was told when our meal was ready and given a window table overlooking the sea. Wife had pate and I had crayfish tails for starters, lovely. Then the main course of fish for her ladysmith and the slow cooked belly pork was amazing. We decided to push the boundaries and have a dessert, the wife had the banana and lime Eton mess which I tried, nice, but my mango and chilli panacotta was tremendous. Well done Lisa and Martin you have done an excellent converting a tired old hotel to a first class eating experience

We used to love the Powfoot Golf Hotel hotel but by March 2016 it was abandoned and neglected and so we really hoped that new owners could be found and it be developed into what it should be in this lovely, tranquil, location". Well, new owners have been found and the hotel has been refurbished and renamed 'The Powfoot Hotel" but the BIG news is that the new owners are the Del Amitri restaurant, a renowned restaurant previously in Annan. This means the place has been 're-born' and the new owners are aiming to make this a fabulous place to stay and/or dine and our experience on Friday 20th May (they only opened on Monday 16th May) suggests they will achieve their aim!On Friday my wife and I along with two friends enjoyed a lovely meal in a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. Staff were not only friendly and attentive they were eager to please and do all they could to ensure that all diners (it was full) had a good experience. If you are the kind of person who wants the plate to be overflowing with food this is not the place for you but if, like us, you want quality local food, well prepared and beautifully presented then you will love the new Del Amitri. We own a static caravan at Queensberry Bay, just down the road from the Powfoot Hotel, and are there very often during the season so it was good to learn that Breakfast, Sunday Lunches, bar snacks, and afternoon teas are all planned for the future.

After trying to book a table in the restaurant at Del Amitri we were told that it was full and advised that we could eat in the lounge bar with no booking, where the same menu as the restaurant was available. We turned up and were not disappointed as the food and service was exceptional. Great surroundings and staff. As a local, will certainly be frequenting the Powfoot Hotel. Wishing Lisa and Martin all the best in their new establishment!
