Death By Tacos in Cheshire West and Chester

Different in all the right ways. A cool, alternative, dark, rock bar to eat Tacos in, what's not to like. Food was flavoursome, service was friendly and the decor very on brand for the place. Not everyone will love it but everyone should give it a go.

Great meal, tacos were boss, staff were great, drinks flowed nicely tacos went down eagerly. Defo coming back for more

I always come here after visiting Cheshire oaks and I feel like this place has lost its way a little and I know that the cost of living has had an effect of most businesses, but dropping standards is never the best option. Gone are the days of ghost chilli tacos and more of what the mass public want. The mass public are boring and uninspired, just like death by tacos food. Cool bar though and great music.

I was really looking forward to trying this place as I’d seen it on Instagram but I found the food very underwhelming. The chicken Macha taco did not have a nice flavour and it was a very tiny portion. The screamo music was a bit much for a Sunday afternoon. I just found it a bit overrated and I’ve experienced much better Mexican food elsewhere. Prob wouldn’t go back.

The valentina wings are possibly the best things i have ever tasted, lovely vibe in here with amazing music. Staff are so lovely and welcoming and all the food is heavenly. Would highly recommend to locals and anyone passing through if you're looking for some godly food and a super warm and friendly environment. Keep it up DBT x

Came here after a day at the zoo as I really wanted to try this place. We were lucky to try the new menu and we both loved it. I had the birria tacos, big enough to fill you up and were made really well, we also had the carne fries and the steak just melted in your mouth. Big selection of sauces and the staff were all really friendly and helpful. Amazing cocktail and music, love the vibe of this place

BEST TACOS IN TOWN! Amazing food - the wings and shrimp tacos are a fave! Always something new to try on the menu - we’ve been 5 times and can’t wait to go again already! The margs are ace too!!!!

We went for taco Tuesday and left obsessed! 2 for £12 tacos was a great deal, we had wings as well and that was enough to fill up on. Also had a £6 margarita which was great too. The atmosphere is very chill and the staff are very friendly and chatty. Will definitely be back for taco Tuesday!

Heard this place was all about the food and the music so thought I'd try it out. They've got Misfits logos everywhere and they sell"Fiend lager" so must play good tunes right? Anyway they'd ran out of wings so ended up having two tiny burnt quesadillas which cost £12. And they played Nickleback.

My Girlfriend and I popped in for a spur of the moment lunch and we were first curious by the sound of Punk and Metal coming from somewhere nearby and noticed the place, had a look and carried on walking commenting on the music and bopping along. After not fancying anything else to eat, we came back, gave it a go and the first thing we noticed was the vibrant yet super easy going atmosphere. We also enjoyed the familiar music but after all, we came for the food and the food was brilliant. It was something a little different to the mundane after being stuck in a rut for weeks and it's great to give a new place a go and love it as soon you sit down. Yeah, I wore my Loop Earplugs but I wanted to take it all in and enjoy the place. Overall the whole experience was a spur of the moment day out and everything experienced was fabulous so in our eyes it was an all out success. We will absolutely be coming again the next time we're in Chester. The Wings were mint. Keep at it!

Really rude and almost confrontational when you ring to ask about food allergies! Super weird and unnecessary

We went on Wednesday evening as they were advertising £6 wings 'all night' on their Instagram. We travelled from the Wirral to Chester and arrived at 8:30pm just to be told that the kitchen is closed and they're only serving drinks. I know kitchens usually close at 9pm, but I think we arrived at a respectful time and I feel slightly misled as it was advertised as 'all night'. Ended up going to Nandos instead lol which we could've gone to on the Wirral.

What a place, the best Mexican food I've had outside of Mexico. They take the best things from Mexico and add the best things from UK, cool vibe, great drinks, just awesome.

Stupid place. My friends and I were a group of 7 and they had a table for six available and we asked if we could please add on a chair and they denied and split us up. The food was incredibly overpriced for the taste and quality. The staff members took their time taking our order. There really was no need to split us up when we could’ve just added on a chair. Ruined our whole experience and the food was below mediocre too

I'll start with the bad. Not enough seating. But the place is so popular it's to be expected. Food is fantastic, for vegan, spicy and none spicy lovers. The pricing can be high, so best going on Tuesdays for the discount. The menu and recipes change a lot, so if going for repeat visits don't expect the same things to taste / be the same but everything they serve will be loved. Service is quick and it's got a great rock vibe. Parking can be difficult and will have to pay. But it's a short walk from the car park. It's the best taco place around.

Easily the best place to eat in Chester, with not only top quality Mexican food on offer but at a consistently top notch level too, along with a chilled 'edgy' vibe and laidback yet passionate & knowledgeable staff. I never shut up recommending this place to anyone who will listen.

I had been to death by taco on multiple occasions when they were in the old market and had loved it! I was really excited to when I heard that they were moving to Watergate Street. After numerous times trying to get in, last night we finally managed to get a table. Music was great, service was impeccable and the general vibe was right up my street, I have to say however I was disappointed with the food compared to the old market days. We had a quesadilla and a pork taco and both were over cooked and extremely oily. I'll put it down to being unlucky and will definitely try again another time as the staff and management a doing a great job!

The food is RIDICULOUSLY good. I look forward to any time visiting here because their specials are great and the menu is always adapting and getting better and better. The space is really cool and I'm so so glad a rocker/emo/punk style space is around to enjoy. Big love!

Really great find in Chester - amazingly fresh food and lovely cocktail list. Also really dog friendly, our staffie really enjoyed the place and found the atmosphere perfect for a little doggie snooze (but she likes loud music!)

Came to this restaurant with very high hopes, having seen it plastered all over instagrams sponsorships for the last few months despite living over an hour away. Unfortunately our visit left us severely disappointed. The service was terrible, feeling as though we were chucked menus and then rushed to order (yet the table of girls sat after us had the server sit down with them and spend time explaining the very limited menu). When ordering we asked about the platters advertised as being served on a Thursday (the only reason we chose to come this day) to be told the menu was limited because they had been busy that day. The food we received were very small portions and although lovely, were nothing like the photos shown online, ridiculously small and all felt like starters despite the price. Between three we ordered 6 tacos, a sharing nachos and a large portion of wings and ended up being in and out within 45 minutes being £75 lighter, and ended up heading to Wetherspoons for another meal because we were still hungry! Also menu items had ingredients in that weren’t listed that were allergens such as nuts etc. The place was very busy and I’m sure will do very well based on branding and social media alone, however based on the reasons above, I’m sure they will struggle to expand beyond the one restaurant. Complete rip off for the price and level of service received.

Good service, however, very small portions (2 bite size tacos) for London prices. I appreciate costly premise rates, but all four of us walked out feeling that the food was very overpriced for nothing spectacular. Nachos con queso were pretty measly. Extremely loud death metal music - might not be everyone’s vibe. For me wasn’t an issue; just couldn’t hear the other 3 people on my table, lol. Won’t be back unfortunately. I’d rather head over to chiquitos (and I don’t like eating at chains)

Out of this world wings, great taco, didn’t rate the “chicharrones” which were just those pork scratching puffs 🙈. We forgive you though because the wings, tunes, decor and the staff were great!

Staff were great, awesome atmosphere and really like the concept of the place. However, I don't think the food lives up to the price point. Nothing bad, just underwhelming compared to the hype.

Service and atmosphere is great but the food is shocking. The price you pay and all you get is 2 little tacos. Rip off!

Although I can empathise with the hard working staff that are rushed off their feet with a full restaurant, my group were quite disappointed in the food. A plate came out every 10 minutes or so. One of us ordered the steak tacos and a lot of the steak was blue. They had forgotten about two chicken dishes and when we told a member of staff, they said there had been a mixup and it would get taken off the bill. Come to pay the bill and the dishes that they said they would take off were still on there. We were in a rush and didn’t want to make a fuss. Birria tacos cold. Chiccarons: pork scratching from the pub. Not good value for money sadly.

Super friendly service, but *loud*. (Maybe I'm getting old.) The food is cooked to perfection, though.

The portions on the tacos have lessoned me and my partner loved the food but for 50£ we got two tacos each very small and 3 cocktails, wish the positions were better but the food is really good and the people are very welcoming and accommodating

It's a niche establishment but, the Best Mexican food and drink I've had outside of Mexico! It's a small venue with small menu but a big selection of tequilas and mezcal. We asked Alex the manager for his suggestions and that man really knows his mezcal, each one was better than the rest. The food was unreal, cheese chips with a lovely cooked steak on, chicken wings in a honey sauce. Between the 2 of us we had 4 dishes and that was more than enough. You can really tell the team have a real passion for what they specialise in....Tacos, Tequila and metal music. Also there's a Mortal Kombat 2 arcade machine!

Food was good, let's be honest here though it's cheap ingredients. The prices for the portions are way too high. Add to that the arrogant attitudes of the staff not my type of place. A real shame as the food was good, Just can't hear the person next to you.

The best tacos you will find in the UK, in a bar with great atmosphere, as someone who grew up watching kerrang in the 90s this was a great nostalgia trip. Highly recommended.

Outstanding dinner, starting with walking in to my favourite Coheed and Cambria song. Place was absolutely hoppin (with good reason) but the service remained totally on point. Friendly. Folks seemed like they were having a good time/good work environment, which means a lot to me and I hope is true. And the food was just off the chain delicious. Probably going back tomorrow, don't really want to miss my chance on this short trip through Chester. You shouldn't miss it either.

It is one of the best places to eat in Chester. First visit and was really impressed by the friendliness and service from the staff. The atmosphere was also excellent and the choice of music was a great accompanyment to the unvelievable delicious food. If i could give it 6 stars, i would. Will most definitely be back.

I knew this was my kind of place when we asked if they let dogs in and the response was "we prefer the dogs to people." Great food, great drinks selection and great vibe. Wholeheartedly recommend this place. And plenty of good vegan options ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sorry but if you're going to replicate Mexican food at least do it properly. Portion sizes very small. Food is served worrying quick, not fresh. I also got given basically a bowl of dorito crisps with some watery cheesy sauce and they have the cheek to charge £6.50 for that. It's such disrespect to customers. In the future I'll be going to the Italian place next door stile Napolitano.

I was inspired by the menu and fancied a takeaway. Drove into Chester and waited at the bar to be told that they only do takeaways if they're not busy. Unimpressed.

So good one visit wasn't enough. If you're into fancy coffees and afternoon teas from waiters than can speak 10 different languages then this probably isn't the place for you, if however you're a bit more down to earth, want tasty food, great service and a free to play arcade machine then death by tacos most certainly is the place for you. We enjoyed our food so much that after an hour of walking around town we decided to go back for seconds. The vibe of this place is just as good as their food. The only thing I'm sad about is its taken me this long to try here. It most certainly won't be my last.

Second time visiting these guys, first a few years ago when they had their small stall in the market. So nice to see them moved into their own restaurant. Keeping the sick vibe and super tasty mexican food going strong. Absolutely recommended to anyone that would chow down on some delicious authentic tacos while Sabbath is blasting.

The food may be good but we had a poor service due to lack of reservation or any queue system which will guarantee the table. If you are more than 5 you likely won’t eat here!!!

Food is fantastic but unfortunately the music is too loud to enjoy. The vegetarian options are as great as the meat. Pity about the volume.

Inconsiderate staff. Asked for a table of 10 and was told to come back in 30 minutes. Waited outside with a 3 year old child and a pregnant lady for 45 minutes only to be told they can not accommodate 10 people. Just say that in the first place instead of wasting people’s time. Ridiculous.

Visited from out of town, enjoyed everything about this bar - so much so I went back and now want to move to Chester. Staff are so friendly and genuinely look like they enjoy their jobs and each others company which radiates through the whole venue. Mango Margaritas are 10/10

Great little place.Second visit.Great food had pulled pork Tacos.They were lovely,great flavours.Not over faced,just the right amount washed down with a couple of chilled corona.Great place if you like heavy metal music but being a mellow soul fan,not the place to chill and hang around after.Still I was here for the food and the food is spot on.Will be back soon 👍

Really nice food. Love the interior design with the skateboards on the wall and the rock and roll vibe. The music was just a little bit too loud for me personally. Will definitely be coming back though to try more things on the menu.

Visited Death By Tacos a couple of weeks ago with some very dear friends. What a great place! from, a real dive bar Louisiana feel to the place, metal/punk sounds but nothing too subversive lol. We had some nacho's wings and of course amazing Tacos, they were that good, no phone snaps!! think my favorite was the Butternut Squash ones and I'm no veggie, Some great flavors you can tell the Chef knows what he's doing as everything was their for a reason, some great knife skills too Front of house were brilliant, all knew what was in every dish, all looked the part as well, Classic Margaritas were to die for. as we were about to finish the heavens opened outside with thunder and lightening, just added to the whole voodoo vibe. We came across from Stockport and i'd put the food here up with Yellow hammer in Stockport and Flawd in Manchester .... If you know, you know!! Heartily recommended ... Cheers Guys

Had been contemplating going there for a while and finally went there. It was really amazing 👏 We got a taco and some wings. The taco was a blast of flavors in the mouth. It was really juicy and soft. But the tacos could have been a bit bigger? The wings were delicious. It melts in your mouth. Wish it were a bit hotter, as the sweetness washes the hotness away a bit. Other than that, it was very good. The staff here are super nice, and the environment is very energetic. A highly recommended one!

Insane food, great vibe, spicy and abit pricey

I ordered the Carne Asada Tacos and they weren't bad. Definitely not the best tacos I've had, but living in the UK there are limited options for good Mexican food. The price was steep for two mediocre tacos. The meat had a weird after-taste. The staff is friendly, it's just unfortunate the food is meh at best.

What a find!!! We couldn’t make a decision for dinner and settled on Death By Tacos, we were thrilled to bits when we left. Best choice ever. We got super lucky as a table was leaving as we walked in. The place stayed packed the whole time we were there. The metal, punk music was a nice change of atmosphere for a restaurant. The staff were friendly, helpful and very attentive. We ordered nearly everything in the menu and it was all amazing. We had the chicken, pork, carne asada, and chorizo tacos, nachos, frijoles w/feta, padron peppers, and the mexi chilli crisp wings. Incredible! We also can’t forget their frozen rhubarb margarita and the espresso martini made with tequila!!!! Delicious. The only negative is there isn’t one where we live.
