Just the perfect amount of seasoning, fish cooked to perfection, sauces subtle and not over bearing. Lovely. Was expecting it to be a lot more expensive being part of the Deans crew but was pleasantly surprised. First time here and most definitely not the last

Dos piezas pequeñas de pan y fue una suerte que me gusta apionabos ya que era difícil probar cualquier cangrejo como el apionabo era abrumador. También era difícil ver cualquier cangrejo en el arranque. Mi amigo sopa que disfrutó.

The last couple of occasions have been rather unhappy experiences with amateurish cooking and minuscule portion size ( two tablespoons of a mushroom risotto ). It was therefore with a degree of apprehension that we agreed to meet up as guests of a business lunch.Bright, airy and busy;the staff are welcoming and efficient. The menu manages to be simple yet confusing which is quite an achievement. Whilst not cheap,Live Fish also manages not to be too expensive either. My wife ordered a Thai Crab salad with chilli and mango - this was at the higher end of the starter price and was okay rather than good. I had the citrus and Jawbox ( gin ) cured trout on toast which was absolutely superb and I loved every single mouthful. It was served perfectly - room temperature rather than pulled at the last moment from the fridge.Mains - as I detailed you can have many variations of the menu options - my wife had hake served with a chorizo and white bean stew with thyme. This was flavoursome however some of the butter beans were hard ( perhaps these weren't stirred when the beans were soaked ),those edible were good. I settled on the Thai curry ( vegetable) which was fresh and perfectly spiced and served on some good Basmati. I enjoyed it hugely and welcomed the much more generous portion size.A good Americano finished things well and,as I have always said,Deane's wines are very good. We enjoyed a beautifully fresh NZ Sauvignon. One point of criticism though was the waiting staff keenly tried to pour this very rapidly - clearly to encourage another bottle to be drunk - once pushed back ( it was lunchtime), I ended up pouring almost all of the remainder. All and all this was a good lunch. Would I return ? yes I would;would I return quickly ? - I certainly wouldn't wait over 2 years ( as before ) .

Not too bad, but oysters were so tiny it was unreal and the chips were very salty. Dessert (lemon cheesecake) was quite nice though.Service was quite good.Skip this place and go to Mourne Seafood (if you can get a table). This was an average dining experience. The food is OK, but lacked any sort of flair and excitement. The menu is carefully crafted to appear reasonably priced at first, but once drinks and sides are added, you will soon find that the meal becomes quire expensive. Mains for four with a few drinks and maybe a coffee or two will cost in and around £100. If you get the cod and chips, then you are in effect getting 4 fish suppers - £100 for a meal of four fish suppers??. I remember when we had a famous "Chippy" brand from England based at York Gate and to be honest, the difference between the two was not that much.Another thing that annoyed me was the 10% service charge, added to your bill. So add 10% to the menu price unless you are prepared to challenge it. And let's face it, how many people have the nerve to do that. It is another subtle way to hide the underlying price of this place. That said, the atmosphere is good and the staff are very attentive. If that is important to you, then you will enjoy the experience. If quality seafood at reasonable prices is more your thing, then I suspect you will not have a memorable time. To be honest, there are better establishments a few minutes away - probably worth the walk.

We stopped by for lunch and were incredibly surprised and pleased by both the value and quality of our food. The service was great. The choice of the lunch menu is great. The wine list is well thought through albeit our wine when it arrived was too cold. The whole experience was enhanced by the fact the Mr Deane also chose to have his own lunch here. As I am not a resident of NI I have eaten at Deane's before and will happily recommend any one of his restaurants.

This is a review for the Deane's deli in Howard street. Went here on NYE at 3pm and I found the staff so unprofessional and unhelpful that I will never be back. I have spoken to other friends who have had the same experience with staff here. Food was nice enough but I have been in better restaurants with lovely staff. the whole experience was sub standard and I was embarrassed to have suggested it to my husband for my anniversary lunch. The waiter dressed in a kilt was particularly bad and the staff then had the audacity to include their tip in our overall bill, by that point I was so fed up I just wanted out. Substandard staff, poor atmosphere and food just ok. Waste of £50 and that was no drink included, couldn't wait to get out of there.

We ate early and the restaurant was pretty empty. Maybe not too surprising as it was just after New Year. The menu was, unsurprisingly, fish based. Enough variety to find something and the odd steak and veggie option. Waiter was a wannabe comic and but maybe he had not had much interaction with customers on the day and needed a chat. The crevettes starter was more a large shrimp starter but was fine. The salt and chilli squid was as described but in quite a thick deep fried coating. Price looked OK but there were no sides. Once you add these on it makes a difference - chips at £3.50 and green beans at £4.The Panna Cotta was not quite set and the pistachio caramel was really a granola topping.Picpoul went well with it.The restaurant was fine but nothing to make it stand out.

My wife and I were given a voucher for Deane's by a friend so we decided to make an event of the trip. Sometimes when you go to a "big name" restaurant you wonder what all the fuss was about as you are served mediocre food by uninterested staff. Not this time!! This was one of the best meals we have eaten in a long time - we both love fish prepared properly and the whole experience was outstanding. We nibbled some olives with a glass of delicious chardonnay while we perused the menu - so much from which to choose. The olives might have been even better if there had been slightly less oil in the serving dish. The moules marinara came in a tasty sauce - some bread to mop up the sauce would have been good (but we'd probably have eaten too much if it had been served as well). The scallops were superbly cooked, served with samphire and pancetta - divine. The salmon with leeks and shrimps was perfect; crisp on the outside yet moist and tender in the centre. The champ my wife selected with this was amazing - it was soooo smooth and tasty. The baked cod Florentine had good sized chunks of cod in a creamy sauce with a crispy crumb topping. Served with this were beef dripping chips. These were large, crisp on the outside with a hint of salt, yet beautifully soft in the centre. I'm not a big chip fan, but these were perfect in both quality and quantity. With these dishes we had an outstanding Gewurtztraminer which was rich with complex tangy flavours and a perfect complement to the seafood dishes we had. The service was very attentive without being "pushy". Admittedly it was a wet Thursday evening and not too busy so I'd expect good service. One thoughtful example occured when our waiter was unable to clear the table in one go - a colleague immediately came and assisted him to remove the rest of the plates.Having read other reviews, maybe we just struck lucky - but as I have indicated we were very impressed with our meal at Deane's Love Fish and would return sometime.

Taking a break from work to show some colleagues the sights and sounds of Belfast we decided to drop off into Deanes love Fish for a quick bite to eat. What an error in judgement. We arrived around 4pm. At the door we were rather hapzardly asked if we had a reservation (for an empty restaurant outside of normal busy time). When we said that we didn't, the person brought us to a table right outside the toilet entrance. Rather an old and silly ploy. We asked for a different table and were given one at the wall in a slightly better location... menus eventually arrived... nothing too exciting... ordinary fish shop fare... but we were hungry and happy to sit and have a chat. A waiter came over to take our order which we had to give 3 times as he appeared to be unable to note down exactly what we wanted even though it was direct from the menu. We had to ask for a wine list. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco as it was the end of a tiring week... and indeed the prosecco was the only part of the meal that satisfied. When we asked for water, the waiter came and roughly poured it into our glasses... in such a way that it went into the glass and straight out again. The food arrived, and it was as mentioned.. plain fare... For what was charged... for plain fare, and the worst service that I have experienced in Belfast, the good part of the experience is that I will never use a Deane's restaurant again and will ensure that any of our company entertainment goes elsewhere. AVOID this place

I rarely (if ever) give a negative review - I haven't had to but I can't not comment on our disastrous evening at this place. Maybe we got it wrong in that we booked expecting an evening of fine dining on succulent seafood but what we got was a fast food experience with a fairly standard choice of fish and by that I mean a selection you would find on any restaurant menu. First we were shown to a table which can only be described as being in the main thoroughfare of the restaurant - right between the bar, the kitchen and the door into another part of the establishment. This meant that it felt like we were in the middle of a busy road with traffic coming at us from all sides. Our waiter was overly familiar - at one point saying "that's one bottle of wine down - are we heading for a second guys?". Needless to say we didn't bother. Fish choice was poor - scallops at £4.00 each as starters and mains were salmon, cod and soemthing else you can get at your local pub restaurant/chippy. My champ was difficult to keep on the fork as it was so sloppy and the leeks were so chewy I thought I was going to choke if I tried to swallow it. We finished our main course and fifteen minutes later were still sitting waiting to be asked if we would like to see the dessert menu or have our bill. We got up, put our coats on and still no-one came to see if we needed something (bearing in mind our table was in the middle of everything - yet it was like we were invisible). We went to the bar and asked for our bill and found we had been charged for 2 desserts! We were in and out of the restaurant (including the 15 minute wait after our main course) in 50 minutes - and we had starters! Not the relaxing dining experience we had envisaged. We will not be back to Fish or any of Mr Dean's other restaurants for that matter

Michael Deane is a star chef of great reputation and Deane's Meat Locker, Love Fish, Epic, and Deane's at Queens have risen to the top of the Belfast scene. As chance would have it two nights found me at Deane's Love Fish. It's another lovely Belfast interior design story, light airy and just enough trendsetting to avoid alienating cool. The team are warm and welcoming, accommodating and attentive. A simple menu indicates simply done top notch fish - but could it deliver? A mackerel pate starter arrived on a lovely presentation board but with too little favour and molar challenging bread. What sounded like a great classic fish and chips with beef dripping chips and crushed peas, also looked great on arrival but with soggy batter and too large a portion and too much salt, it fell short. A great wine list did deliver on a characterful pinot noir though. Second time around a scampi starter was large enough for a main meal and again too heavily salted. A main of salt and chilli squid overpowered the seafood with too much salt and too harsh a chilli - even for a sea salt and chilli lover - with the result that no seafood flavour was discernible and lots of water was needed to combat the saltiness. Squid has to be young and lightly treated too and this seemed to have been much too long in the fry, resulting in a texture of flexible rubber. This is not a bad restaurant and a great night with friends, along with the amiability and charm of the staff makes for a pleasurable time. But the food is simply not what it thinks it is.

This is obviously a restaurant for fish lovers, but it has a couple of vegetarian options which are not bad. Bread and olives were delicious for starters. Meal size was surprisingly small, so I thought I would go hungry, but the food turned out to be filling and was enough really. Tropical fruit sorbet for desert was better than expected in a northern country. Above all, this restaurant has a great atmosphere and a nice decor, and service is prompt and kind - I will be back on my next trip to Belfast!

We ate here recently and have to say the service is First Class, the decor's lovely and it was a perfect location for us. It's obviously very popular as all tables were occupied. We shared a couple of starters, salted cod & scampi, and both were really superb. My crab mayo main was delicious but my friends, who all ordered the marinated sardines on toast, were disappointed. They presumed the sardines would have been in a sauce and that the skin would off. No sauce, more a pickling, and skin on.Dessert was wonderful - a warm chocolate brownie with lovely vanilla ice-cream. Really delicious.I gave my lunch 10 out of 10 but my friends could only agree on 7 as they felt the main let our visit down. Maybe we should have asked the waitress for a breakdown of the menu, or maybe a little description below each item, but we all agreed we'd return.

We have recently tried Deanes at Queens and had a wonderful night. Unfortunately not the same experience here and it mainly stemmed from the poor customer service. When the waiter came to take our order we had two questions regarding the menu. How was the salt and chilli squid cooked and what is in the fishcake? The waiter did not know the answer to either question. Not so bad for the squid, but they should know what is in the fishcake. The meal was OK, but nothing special. Only two out of the five people at the table were drinking wine but they didn’t remove any of the other wine glasses. I had ordered a gin and tonic when we arrived and had finished it before the starters arrived. But the empty glass and tonic bottle were still on the table when we left the restaurant. It was odd watching one of the chefs constantly walking through the restaurant then standing near the door looking blankly around the room. Overall a very disappointing night from a restaurant that could be so much better.

Deanes Restaurant, or rather restaurants (there's a clutch of them in Belfast) are obviously quite an institution, and Deanes Love Fish proved that the kitchen brigade know their way around seafood. I dined there on a Saturday night, and although having to be perched at the bar for want of table space my classic 'fritto misto' of seafood was everything I expected it to be - crisp batter hiding a good selection running from squid, prawns, silky-soft goujons of haddock, all enlivened by a light spicing of chilli and shredded scallion. Together with a glass of a simple Italian white wine this was a great way to finish my day. I'll be back next time I'm in Belfast, no doubt ... perhaps to try another of Deanes ubiquitous eateries!

Went for lunch with group of friends. Was surprised to see lunch menu promoting £6.50 lunch as expected it to be more expensive. Venue was lovely, airy and spacious and fairly busy. We were offered still or sparkling water for table, we opted for still (expecting jugs of tap water) Food was lovely however portions were quite small. I had sardines on toast with salad and chips. This consisted of 2 small slices of ciabatta with 1 sardine on each, some rocket and skinny chips, not the lovely beef dripping chips that came with everything else. But hey it was only £6.50. Dessert of chocolate brownie with cherries and ice cream was amazing. Staff were very friendly, particularly a Scottish guy. When bill arrived noted we were charged £9 for 2 bottles of water which I think is extortionate and not expected. 6 of us shared 2 bottles of wine and 3 small starters. 2 desserts and 2 coffees, all in all a bill of £154 which I think is pricy enough for lunch when the portions are small. Just went to the Deanes love fish restaurant in Belfast's Howard street, and I was very disappointed. The atmosphere and deco was good but the food and services have a lot to be desired. I ordered pickled crab meat for starter, and seabass in black olive sauce for main course. The starter was flavoured generously with anise and dill/ fennel and I could not taste the crab or pickled cabbage. They run out of seabass so used haliburt instead, but it was overpowered by a strong, salty black olive sauce, and almost raw fennel as vegetable (green beans need to be ordered separately as a side). I travel around the world trying different cuisines and love new flavours but this was simply bizarre. It is overpriced, the flavours overpowering and it is definitely overrated. It will take some serious persuasion for me to visit it again!

The restaurant has a very positive feel to it and some very pleasing art work on display. In good time we had our cocktail order taken and menus presented to our party. The cocktails were excellent and we sat back to enjoy them, have a chat and make decisions about what we were going to eat. However during this 'catch-up' time with our guests our server returned several times enquiring if we had made our selection from the menu.....'perhaps' a bit too pushy. As we had an early booking on a Saturday night* I assumed that our server was keen to take our orders so that the table could be used again as quickly as possible.Once decisions were made we placed our orders - the standard of food and it's presentation was exceptional - from starter to desert - it could not have been faulted. One comment I would make - our server did everything required but had a very poor table-side manner and even though we had the most enjoyable food it was not a fun evening. To cap it all after we requested our bill we had a 15 minute wait before it arrived - after another ten minute wait for the server to return with the card machine I eventually was able to get a different server to run our card - this is where the 10% gratuity is difficult - the service was very ordinary yet I did not want to object in front of our guests. I'm very comfortable with a 10% addition to the bill but only if it is earned and in our case it was not. Fabulous food, great value, wonderful ambience - pity about the server!!!*we were seated at 18.10 we requested our check at 19.23 and our receipt was timed at 19.53

As soon as we entered Deanes we knew we had made the right decision to eat here. We were greeted by an extremely friendly waiter who made us feel instantly at ease. The menu was explained to us in great detail along with ALL the cocktails. Our favourite cocktail was not on the menu however the waiter said he would make it for us and we would not be disappointed. He was right as it was one of the best we've had. We ordered from the £6.50 lunch menu. The food was delicious. The portions were perhaps a little small but the flavours are so good that you feel content when finished. We ordered a side of beef dripping chips as we couldn't resist. They were very tasty and we'd certainly recommend them. We really enjoyed our lunch here and will definitely return when we are back in Northern Ireland!

I walked in to Deanes Meat Locker, planning to get the steak carpaccio appetizer, but asked to be seated at the bar which turns out to be on the seafood side of the restaurant. They do not serve from the steak house menu, if you are seated on the seafood side, I was told, which I thought was strange, since I walked in on that side and they share a service bar. Oh well, I had wanted to try Irish oysters anyway. They were fresh and salty, just the way I like. Then I ordered the scallop app., stilton & pear salad, and sardines on toast. It's not cheap, but the food is good and the staff was friendly. Turns out I just missed the cast of Game of Thrones, some of them were in the area filming and had a big dinner there the night before.... Darn!I would consider giving the place 5 stars, but would want to visit a few times first, which I would be happy to do, but live three thousand miles away.

We are a seafood loving family and this was a very memorable meal indeed. We shared a 'fruits de mer' platter as a starter - oysters, mussels, large prawns, smoked salmon and herrings. All fresh, substantial and delicious. The main courses were similarly perfect. Scallops were meaty and flavoursome; fish (sea bream and roasted cod) perfectly cooked, and the prawn curry was spiced with whole spices and fresh herbs. Sorbet also wonderful. Service even during a very full Saturday slot (peak evening time) was cheerful, helpful and well timed. A flawless meal and one I would highly recommend.

This is a really bright inviting restaurant. We went for lunch and ate from the £6.50 lunch menu. Probably a mistake as portions are small even for the reduced price tag. We also ordered beef dripping chips, which were delicious, but there were lass than 10 and for £3.50 that's not good value. The moules are cooked in a curry sauce - not a good combination as the curry was "chip shop curry sauce" flavoured and not a good combination. The home baked wheaten bread was delicious. Three of us ate from the lunch menu, two diet cokes, a bottle of water and coffees came to £62 including service charge added by restaurant - not good value for the portion sizes.

Had the £6.50 lunch today with work colleagues and all i can say is we all loved 'Love Fish'. From the bright and airy dining area to the delightfully dry witted Scottish waiter to the perfectly sized, expertly cooked lunch portions, we had a great experience. Would definitely recommend and will be back to check out the evening menu.

We haven't eaten here before so decided to try out the lunch menu. The highlight was the scampi starter with chips and homemade tartare sauce. Can't praise the dish highly enough, really superb, scampi excellent and the sauce fantastic . We then had the crab and prawns and whilst there were fine, we both felt they under seasoned . The staff were grand, pleasant and attentive and lunch time prices were very reasonable. We'll try the meat restaurant next time.

Having just arrived in Belfast and booked into hotel we went 'walkabout' and were 'drawn' by the bright airy look of "Love Fish". We had good experience in Michael Deane establishments over the years so decided to try.In truth we probably were in 'sandwich mode' but the feel of this spot and an enticing light lunch menu was all the persuasion we needed. An eye catcher is the £6.50 lunch selection - we picked couple - Apple Pear and Stilton Salad Walnuts - simple but very tasty and well presented, and a Crab Toast - really light and flavoursome. A few bits - Olives and Fries to pad out. Initially considering a glass of white we were very pleased with the bottle Chez Deaneo Sauvignon Blanc - Yes no willpower Ha.A really tasty mini cheeseboard and a couple of sorbets to finish. In conclusion - a very welcome surprise - tasty and reasonable value - worth noting if one was into a more substantial meal there was a party of six close by and one could not help notice a fabulous seafood platter with all sorts of delights including lobster, mussels, etc etc.

You can find Michael Deane's 'Love Fish' Restaurant and the back of the City Hall in the heart of Belfast City Centre. Absolutely the best meal I have ever had. Variety excellent and can make it an expensive night if you really want something special or even just drop in for a small plate of something and a glass of wine. Staff very efficient and excellent knowledge of all dishes. I ordered scampi as starter which came as a perfect portion of about 4-5 small pieces of scampi with lovely chips served in a little basket. I then ordered salmon with Bombay potatoes - portions and cooking were absolute perfection. My husband had olives to start and 'fish and chips' as main - must point out that the batter is the lightest I have ever tasted, We ordered a lovely bottle of white wine with meal which was left in an ice bucket to side of table, our glasses regularly being topped up by staff. Could not recommend this restaurant highly enough, anyone visiting Belfast this is a must to try, and I promise you will not be disappointed, we cannot wait to go back again.

After a day full of sightseeing in Belfast, we were ready for a delicious meal! Earlier in the day, we passed by Love Fish and decided to dine there (close walk from our hotel (Ten Square) as well). We each ordered a glass of wine - it paired well with the dishes.I got the shrimp curry (balance spice level and generous amount of shrimp!) and my mom got the salmon (perfectly cooked - it had a nice crust and was incredibly moist in the middle). This is a fun place to eat - the staff is friendly and the setting is decorated beautifully (lots of sea touches!)I would go back for sure!

Firstly, it's important to make clear that I'm a big fan of Deanes and their approach to bringing good food to Belfast is to be wholly admired.I'd been meaning to visit this new establishment and only recently got the opportunity to do so. We booked a table for two and arrived to be shown to a table right by the route to the toilet, somebody has to sit there I suppose! The space has been really well created, a nifty fit out with lively buzz and certainly a most inviting environment. The menu is wide-ranging, obviously seafood orientated focusing on fresh produce but with other dishes for the non-seafood eaters. A food and drinks order was taken swiftly. Starters was six oysters with accompaniments. They were fresh (obviously) well presented and really excellent. The highlight of the meal. Main course for me was a portion of salt and chili squid (on starter menu) along with a side of Portugese rice, the latter was a side of another main but seemed to take a bit of persuasion to allow me to alter the menu a little to allow me to try the rice. The squid was really disappointing. Rubbery, greasy and lacking any zing certainly no bite of chilli or that salty hit you expect to get. The chef in question needs to visit Shu and try theirs as soon as possible. Definitely needs to be looked at. The rice itself was gloopy, even stodgy and wasn't overly flavourful and definitely lacked seasoning. I was really disappointed.Generally I expected much more, it's a great concept and promises to deliver but doesn't on a number of levels. My partner and I thought the space was super, service warm and friendly but the food just a big disappointing. Hopefully they can take a look at the menu and get it straight, as it could be an excellent addition.

I was at the restaurant recently for a birthday dinner, everything was very hopeful at the start, our table booking was for 8pm and we were greeted and taken straight to our table. Unfortunately it was downhill from there, an hour after ordering and asking several times our starters arrived and were quite nice. Another 35 mins later our main courses eventually arrived and unfortunately were not worth the wait! The salted chilli squid was chewy and bland, the salmon was dry and ridiculously small sized portion, would be considered small even if ordered as a child's portion. We didn't order desserts as were warned it would be a very long wait for these also, as other diners were still waiting on main courses! Poor service, small portion sizes and all over priced! Much nicer restaurants in close proximity.

28 June 5.30 My experience of Deane's is generally good - but not on this evening's encounter! Interestingly my adult kids ate here today at lunch time and raved about the £6.50 lunches - at £6.50 I would have been delighted! We arrived for an early evening meaning at 5.30pm - heading to theatre! The soft crab was seriously good but not as good as Cassanis in Marbella 2 weeks ago! The disappointment came with the mains salted chilli squid with a side of green beans - sorry to say squid coating tasted totally of flour! Squid inside was fine but nit worth the money Roast cod on a chick pea and chorizo cassoulet hard to believe you can't get flavour into that! But the managed not to - the cod portion was tiny! - it was a birthday meal we didn't want to make a fuss so with 2 glasses of prosseco a bottle of the house Sauvignon blanc and two further glasses the bill came to an astounding £106 - I generously left a £10 tip only to find later there's a standardised 10% service charge built in - that should be referenced at the time of paying the bill. Seriously disappointed - good luck Michael- I think you've played a blinder through the recession but I won't be back to love your fish -st. George's market on a Saturday will supply the ample relevant ingredients for a better home cooked meal!

We ate here early evening and found it a mixed encounter, my salad was fine, my half lobster and chips fresh and delicious, but staff attention was intermittent and the experience felt very processed and anonymous. A shame as we loved eating at the original Howard Street Deanes a few years back and the bill suggested that we could have expected something special again.

The food was not bad. A rocket and parmesan salad generous on the parmesan, very well combined (well, this is not too difficult to achieve, isn't it) and salmon with potatoes bathed on some curry sauce, with green beans on the side. This so far was good. The problem was that the service was fine in the first half hour, then it went down like a rock. They don't seem to be able to coordinate between them when the place becomes a bit crowded. I was waiting for ages to be asked to my dessert selection, and then another long time for it to arrive. The worst is when the bill arrives. The service is already included, not giving you any chance to increase or decrease it. This is not the way to receive tips! It is a very rude tactic on the customer.

Back from Aberdeen for a short break with my wife, and she and her mum and l went out for a meal here this evening (Thursday) for an evening meal. We were shown to our table by Michael Deane himself. He left us with his restaurant manager. It seemed that when we indicated that we did not want alcohol, interest in our table waned. The food was tasty enough although the portions were paltry with sides extra. I had sea bass which was beautifully cooked and very fresh, but the fennel served with it was placed with it on the plate was not properly drained and the water still in it made the sauce watery. My wife has the Malay curry which was well cooked. My mother in law had the fishcake which consisted of one large fishcake in a white sauce with no garnish. It looked more like a starter masking as a main course. When we finished and our plates were empty we waited a long time before anyone removed our plates and asked about dessert. When the dessert menu came it was unremarkable. It might have been understandable had there been a large repertoire of fish offered as a fish restaurant suggests. The choice for the cheeseboard was pathetic. We decided to end our meal with tea and coffee. My espresso could have been warmer as my wife's cappuccino, more to do with the time it was sitting waiting than anything to do with the coffee.I think what really wrankled most of all was the discretionary service charge added automatically to the menu as a tip. When asked about why this should be so, no good explanation was given so I asked for it to be removed. I only give a discretionary service charge if the service is up to scratch and it was lax, verging on casual. My overall conclusion would be I wouldn't rush back. Whilst the food is fine the service isn't and the two are inextricably linked. Besides there are much better restaurants in the vicinity. The annoying thing when I last was there was one restaurant in Howard Street it was excellent.

Valeu a pena!

Lost 1 star for me for 2 reasons, seating bad (we were at a cramped table beside kitchen & toilets with never ending stream of foot traffic behind me kicking my seat (we saw a waitress accidentally drip food down another patrons pure white coat that was draped on back of her chair) Also, service very slow particularly on drinks (waited 23 minutes for cosmopolitan) I would go back but would prefer to sit in quieter bar seating area, as I said the food really was fantastic quality, fresh, tasty & not overpriced.I would like to say also that staff are very good ☺️

I would not describe this as a restaurant for fish lovers as the fish offerings are a bit common place - prawns, battered cod, etc. The £6.50 "lunch" menu is effectively a starter passed off as a main course, thereby making it not the good value lunch that it was masquerading as on the menu. To top it off, a 10% non discretionary service charge was added on to my bill.... I thought service was included in this country, and virtually always so at lunchtime? I probably would go back, but it wouldn't be at my suggestion. As usual, tap water had to be requested twice.

As usual Michael Deane's Love Fish restaurant is top of the list. What I like about it is the smooth service with a touch of humour and great cuisine.Starters were Jamesons and ginger and a Bombay and tonic and then on to the serious subject of food. The seared scallops with samphire, pancetta and garlic served in individual shells are to die for and the crevettes in garlic butter with sourdough take some beating. We chose a bottle of 2012 Pecorino to accompany the meal and it has a perfect light touch that is just that bit more delicate than the Pinot Grigio that would have been my usual choice. For mains Josephine took the fish pie and I the grilled salmon with Bombay potatoes and curry oil. We had a side of beef dripping chips. the latter are an indulgence not to be missed! The fish pie is the best we have tasted. Not only is the filling a selection of fish with a light touch of sauce but the buttery mash topping is so light as to be melt in the mouth. The grilled salmon has a light crust and the curry oil gives the Bombay potatoes a pleasant "kick". A perfectly balanced combination. The portions are balanced so that one can partake of three courses without feeling bloated so of course we chose the cheese, accompanied by a very palatable 10 year old port.I am not one for chutneys so this accompaniment was lost on me but the "fromage de jour" was first class. In fact it was better than the selection that Josephine was serves a a birthday special. To finish off I took the Bepi Tolosini grappa which is one of the smoothest I have had outside Italy.Bill total including the 10% £140 of which £63.00 was drinks. Money well spent!!
