We were unhappy at having to wait an hour for our meals last night and received a public dressing down from the chef when we said so. Readers may be pleased to know that food is cooked from scratch but this is not made clear anywhere on the menu or by the waitress when ordering. This place describes itself as a pub, not a fine-dining restaurant. Being publicly humiliated spoiled our experience of the food and we won't be going there again.

Our Christmas Eve Swedish Smorgasbord dinner at the De La Pole was brilliant start to our Christmas weekend. After an amazing variety of pickled herrings, prawns, red cabbage, pate, and breads for starters we had a choice of roasted ham, meatballs, mashed potatoes and cranberry stuffing. The choice of cakes and cheese for desert rounded off a fabulous evening meal. Great food, nice atmosphere and very good value. Highly recommended.

This is the best carvery we have ever had. Having not eaten meat for a long time, I wanted to try it because it looked amazing but I wasn’t sure if I could actually eat it. Frankie patiently encouraged me to try the sirloin beef joint, serving both well done and rarer slices of beef and a serving of pork to try. It’s was absolutely perfect and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so, that Frankie brought me some more sirloin beef to our table! Frankie has converted my vegetarian inclinations and meat is back on!! Thank you. Definitely recommend the service and quality of food here.

The best Sunday carvery we have ever had. The two joints had been cooked to perfection with both beef & pork being succulent, juicy & tasty with a very generous helping. The pork crackling was crunchy and very moreish. A good range of help yourself vegetables were also well cooked and presented. We shared a starter of whitebait and finished with a devine pudding. The young waitresses did an admirable job of looking after us. To sum it up this meal was so good that we have booked again and taking four of our friends to show ut off.

We first visited for the Sunday Carvery, we were so impressed we came back with some family for another carvery a few weeks later. Again much impressed with all of the food, the service and the ales we returned again with some friends for a weekday lunch. The special chicken dish was superb, the cheese and potato pie excellent (what lovely pastry!) and the traditional puddings great. What a find, just a pity it is not a little more local to us.

Visited this excellent pub on the afternoon of a friend’s daughter’s wedding. As I was the DJ, I’d spent the morning setting up just down the road and as it happened the pub had been festooned with 100 plus of our wedding guests taking the opportunity of a quick sharpener before the ceremony, the church being directly opposite. My able assistant Matt & I arrived, starving after a morning’s graft, just after the guests had left so there was some trepidation as to whether they were still serving/ run out food etc ( this being Suffolk where #12 till 2 syndrome which sadly afflicts many a fine establishment in those parts ).... the place was still very busy with the usual superannuated cyclists, ramblers etc... the Landlady could not have been more welcoming despite her & her staff being run off their feet... she gave us a menu & asked us to find us a seat and someone would be with us as soon as they could... well they had a lovely menu : all very fresh, local & homemade & true to her word we had our order taken within 10 minutes. I had dressed crab which was sublime. Matt had scampi & chips. Having worked in many ( & indeed owned a few) bars & pubs I was most impressed and can strongly recommend a visit.

We came to Wingfield to visit the church to see the de la Poles monuments. We had been recommended the pub by a local inhabitant whom I had contacted about the church. Wingfield is way off the beaten track, being small village of less than 400 inhabitants. The Wingfield Arms is opposite the church and has been recently refurbished and acquired new owners I understand: and a first rate job has been done too. Plenty of parking next to the pub. There's a public bar and a lounge bar where bar food is served; there is also a restaurant. Curiously there is also a deli next to the bar. We had excellent sandwiches and a glasses of beer (real ale); the bar menu is really good (including that sandwich rarity white bread), several beers are on draught and there's a more than adequate wine list. We also bought some Scotch eggs from the deli - best I've tasted. The restaurant and its menu look very inviting too so it's worth another visit. I must add that the service is very friendly and efficient.

The De La Pole boasts the most inventive and delicious menu and keeps a mean selection of great beers. Not a bad wine list either. I love this place because the staff are so lovely and remember what wine or beer you like. Be warned, however, that it is extremely popular with the locals and booking may be a good idea. It is situated between a church and a pre=-Reformation church and carriages regularly drive by. Take a look.

I was taken here for a birthday lunch by a friend. We did not book as it was mid-week and, not realising how popular it had become, we had to share a table. However, it was a very BIG table and we knew the people we shared with. Delicious menu and the platters are to die for. My friend had a fish platter and I a cheese one. Both of us had far more food than we could manage. On asking for 'doggy bags' we were handed lovely individual small plastic containers with lids, one for each item we had saved, and were told we could either take them home with us or they would keep them in the fridge until we returned. Suffice to say, I had enough for my lunch at home the following day. Thoroughly recommended but remember to book.

It's a carvery, and on the day we had a choice of beef or pork - both cooked to perfection - delicious carrots, green beans, cauliflower cheese, yummy roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings. Our vegetarian friend loved her specially prepared cheese and onion pie: "melt-in-the-mouth pastry".She also got her own veggie roast potatoes. It's a 2-course menu so after that we attempted to fit in various puddings - all wonderful but the sticky toffee pudding deserves special commendation. You'd be hard pushed to fit in a pudding to be honest!

Party of eight for sunday lunch/carvary, two of us are vegetarians, nothing at all on the menue for vegetarians, why do we always have to ask whats available? When we asked we were told the only veggie option is nut roast, wow how exciting and original is that, would have had fish but not a single bit of fish available,We were served the nut roast on a dished plate and it was surrounded by very deep mushroom sause, it looked more like a bowl of soup, so when we added the veg from the carvary, everything ended up covered in mushroom sause, why could we not have served our own sause? They did have veggi roast potatoes, however these were very dry and rock hard,The nut roast was dreadfull, two mouthfulls were enough, it was mush and tasted entirely of onions, we both left the nut roast swimming in the lake of mushroom sause,Waiter could see it was not eaten, but did not ask if everything was ok.Did not like to make a fuss as it was a family birthday celebration. The young waitress and waiter were very timid and lacked confidence, but were always on hand.I will not be going here again,Highlight of the day was seeing the beautiful old dog

After checking the menu "on line" I decided to take my Mum, 96 years young, over to this delightful old pub for lunch. It has undergone some cosmetic changes [for the better], and it was nice to be greeted warmly by the new owner when we entered. We sat in the deli cafe area and shared a deli "fish platter" which was nicely presented, very tasty and very good value at £11.95. I don't always like whitebait, which were included in the platter, but they were very crispy and delicious. Crusty bread and butter accompanied it. We were too full after this to eat anything else although the cakes looked delicious. The coffees we had were good. You can create your own sharing deli board from the products on sale and they also serve "all day breakfasts" sandwiches and hot food specials at lunch time. On Sundays it appears that there is a Carvery. It would also be a good place for afternoon tea, Note however it is closed on a Monday and opens on the other days from 9.00 am. Food is served until 4.30 pm, the shop opens until 5.00 pm and the bar closes later [ the actual time is not clear]I wish them luck with this new venture and will certainly go again.

I had been told a few months ago that the menu was going to be overhauled from its normally excellent pub grub. The new menu was to be of american themed fast food style cooking, fried chicken, ribs, pizzas etc. This type of food makes me think of my local takeaway which let's be honest is always disappointing and not always great value for money, so I was intrigued to see what the chef was going to create to make me part with money for what is essentially fast food! My fiancée and I had a chicken and ribs, a sloppy Mexican burger and a side of chicken wings. Sensational! The chef at the Del a pole makes the best burgers in the county full stop. The fried chicken was spicy and crunchy and the ribs had beautiful, succulent meat with a delicious BBQ sauce. Even the side garnish of homemade coleslaw and said were fantastic. This meal topped of with their usual friendly, chatty, happy service and their well kept beer is enough to make us go back for many more meals and try everything the new menu has to offer! Try the Del a pole, you won't be disappointed!!

Went here while visiting the area but left sadly disappointed by the food microwaved to oblivion- what a shame this pub has gone down hill badly

In what was a typical village country pub, we found the staff to be friendly enough, however, were left feeling let down by the food. My partner had the Big Yorkie where unfortunately a couple of the sausages were burnt, but on the whole tasted ok. I had the Beef and Ale pie and found the beef to be quite chewy and both dishes were overcrowded with vegetables. We were hoping the saving grace would be desert, the syrup sponge was plentiful and very tasty, unfortunately the apple pie had been microwaved within an inch of its life and was a soggy mess. This pub has the makings of a good eatery, however, they need to up their game.

We took my mother there on Mothering Sunday with four others and again the place did not let us down. It was full to the rafters and unlike many other places did not have a set menu on the day, rather the normal menu which I thought was brave. It did not matter, three of us went for the roast beef and asked for it rare, it came out just perfect, not tough or grey, rather delicious with all the trimmings. The pie and fish and chips were also fantastic. No long waits, or incidents throughout the whole meal. Great service and attitude. Thank you once again for a wonderful day out, my mother really enjoyed herself and the attention your staff lavished on her, trouble is she now wants to go back every Sunday!

Had been to this pub before for a drink so decided to take the family for Mother's day lunch as I thought it would be a nice treat.Unfortunately a slight accident occurred when someone swiped a fly away and smashed a glass into another dinner. The staff dealt with this with the minimum of fuss and very soon a replacement was given. It soon became apparent that the replacement was badly undercooked as there was still blood on the roast beef.It was taken away when asked and then given back cooked but still had funny taste when it was eaten. The rest of the meals consisted of very chewy meat and undercooked vegetables.Consequently, the person who ate the dodgy meat was very ill the next day and had to take a day off from work. Before we left the pub we made a complaint to the manageress and suggested that maybe she would deduct 1 meal from the bill but she would not do so.I will never go back to that pub again, embarrassed that we invited our family on Mothers day the meal was so awful and that one of the family was badly ill.Shame on you de LA pole for serving up dodgy undercooked meat, and shame on the manageress no apology no refund.

Five out for family birthday celebration, not been since these owners took over but very glad we gave them a try. Friendly and welcoming with great service. Food way better than average pub fare. Wine by the glass at very (unusually) fair prices. If you've not been here for a year or two or want to try someplace new give them a try.

Had to wait 1 hour 15 mimutes for a booked table.Once table was available, my partner & myself were treated like a couple of children by one of the staff. We found it very funny at the time, so it didn't really spoil the night. (she was very young)Won't be going back though, which is a shame as the pub has a lot of potential.

We hired out the restaurant for a 40 person birthday party, and the landlords did us proud. Helen and Nick pulled out all the stops, from the pre dinner organising through to the arrangement and presentation of the whole pub. The tables were dressed beautifully, the lighting was perfect and the wines chosen along with the waiting staff were fabulous. Nothing was too much of a problem, and they helped our guests beautifully. The true highlight was the food. Now! I've been to some functions and know how difficult it is to get the food right at the best of times, but they produced a meal fit for any top restaurant in London. It should have had a Michelin Star rating. The rack of lamb was a tour de force, perfectly cooked served with deliciously creamy Dauphin potatoes and crisp perfectly cooked greens, all served with a superb sauce, and all 40 of them HOT! The starters and dessert were just as delicious and all of our guests wrote to us and commented on the food, as they should have done. We were supposed to be out by 22.45 but I think the last guests left at 12.15! As every one was having a great time. Thank you guys you did us proud and I think the restaurant is the perfect place for a party or wedding meal as you really amazed every one. Well done for our five star birthday party.

Went for the pub quiz and BBQ and was nicely surprised. It was great quality food, nicely cooked and lots of it! Great side dishes and alternatives to the (delicious) sausgaes like Chicken Tikka peices. And very inexpensive for an all you can eat!The staff were friendly and helpful and were great with our 3 year old who wasn't that interested in the pub quiz. The quiz was great fun, I only wish we lived closer.

While staying locally I went to this place for dinner - I thought it was a real gem. Wingfield is a lovely place with an interesting history, and the pub is beautifully restored. We chose it as it was local and had a good choice of food at a reasonable price, and particularly on the strength of the children's menu, which went beyond stuff out of the freezer served up with chips: OK there were chips, but the chicken strips were a freshly cooked version of nuggets, came with a decent salad, and there were also mini versions of grown up meals, like beef pie. everything we ordered was very fresh, large portions, and tasty. staff were helpful and friendly, and we felt very comfortable there. Also there were 10 of us, which sometimes leads to difficulty getting everyone served at the same time - not here, there was no problem. to summarise I would say i'd had a good restaurant meal at pub grub prices

When I first rang to enquire whether the cook could provide a dairy and gluten free meal I was assured that this was not a problem. Two weeks later when we went there with friends it was obvious that the cook had not been told of my needs.I had very little choice in my meal and it was bland and dry. All the desserts were out of bounds for me and cook was not able to offer a piece of fresh fruit. When I asked to speak with him he was unpleasant, surly and defensive. The poor waiter was obviously embarrassed by the difficlties.

We've been frequenting this pub on and off since 2006. It had belonged to the St. Peter's Brewery bunch but by 2006 had become vacant. It was then re-opened with an excellent menu - things like potted rabbit, home-made burgers and other locally sourced dishes were the order of the day. Then one day.....horror! Management had changed and only sandwiches were on offer for lunch. Now as I've said before in other reviews, I don't want bread and a filling when I travel out to find lunch. So sadly the De La Pole Arms was dropped as a lunch spot - a shame when it is so close to the main road leading from Stradbroke to Diss. However whilst playing on the internet I heard that the management might have changed again. So off we pottered one cold autumnal day. The owners were ever so welcoming - fire burning away brightly in the main bar. And - hot food at lunch back!!! Most importantly the food was lovely - very good pub food with local ingredients, cooked well. The kids and husband were more than happy. We've been back since and had the owner's father help our son give us a beating at Scrabble. definitely worth a visit - a lovely local pub, good beers on tap, a varied menu with good, home-cooked food and a delightful family welcome.
