David's in Babergh

I spent my Easter Holiday in Suffolk and had the chance to sample several diners in the area. I always love a good burger and I must say that David's bistro in the center of Sudbury serves one of the best burgers I have ever tasted... It's simply glorious. The location is cozy and quiet, service is excellent. If I ever happen to go back to Sudbury, David's burger will definitely be one of the reasons why.

Visited earlier this week for lunch with a friend, the burger was too die for! Perfectly cooked, nice onions, great tasting cheese that complimented the burger without over-powering it. And great coffee too!

Well what a great breakfast! Attention to presentation, excellent quality produce prepared to perfection by the friendly chef. He loves his work and it shows. The staff are very attentive, polite and helpful. What a gem of a place. Thank you we are full and content ❤️

We popped in for a light lunch. I had the smoked chicken and avocado sandwich and my wife had a fruit scone. Simple stuff but beautifully done. The scone was perfect. Warm but not overheated and excellent flavour. My sandwich was beyond perfect. The taste was amazing and the filling was very generous. Probably the best sandwich I have ever had. We'll be back.

This gem is adults only, which is perfect for everyone who doesn't want to be annoyed by the badly behaved brats that selfish parents inflict upon the world. The cakes and pastries are mouthwateringly inviting. Great choice of coffee means a delightful break in peace. Warmly recommended. Clive.

Came in for tea and coffee, and ordered two glasses of water. Since the water came in a very small jug, we soon asked for a refill to which we were told that we can’t just order water by an elderly lady and heavy eyeshadow. That same lady came up to our table with the water and started explaining that it’s wrong of us to only order the water (although we also ordered tea and coffee) and told us she will have to charge us for the water and the ice… we did not at any point specify that we wanted tap water, so we were prepared to pay for it anyway. It was extremely embarrassing, as others were around. Perhaps our foreign accents have had something to do with it, either way it has left us very uncomfortable and upset at the condescending way we have been spoken to. All other staff were extremely lovely and polite, and even apologised for the altercation of the elderly woman.

Wonderful. An oasis of quality and calm. Table reservation was easy, although I'm not sure we had needed to. The lunchtime food was excellent, the wine good (not to mention the pot of tea!) and the service just right. To top it off, the prices were very fair. Couldn't have been better. We'll be back.

Very difficult to give any information about the cafe as we were not welcome to the empty cafe accompanied by our grandson. It is sad to see such discrimination with no flexibility in today’s society.

Service and food always excellent. Lovely atmosphere, can strongly recommend. David and staff always make us very welcome.

Went intending to have lunch with my elderly parents. Found a table, waited and waited for someone to take our order. Three people came in after us and sat down behind us and got served straight away….waited some more. My dad went up to the counter and asked if we placed our orders here and was told that they would come over to serve us. Waited some more…still nothing happened. In the end , we walked out so based on this experience, we would not return !

As a party of 7 we very much enjoyed lunch on Saturday 11th March. Sudbury is very fortunate to have a very different and individual venue and the food prepared by David was excellent. Very welcoming too. David and his team are extremely pleasant and the feeling of warmth was much in evidence. While my daughter who lives in Sudbury has enjoyed visits before there was the first time my wider family have been and we will definitely return.

Lovely quaint cafe! My friend wanted to go and had to drag me away from my usual favourite. I was smitten with the place immediately. Old fashioned charm and very good food, drink and service at really reasonable prices. An added bonus is there are no children allowed so expect quiet, peaceful conversation! Highly recommended!

What a wonderful place. We moved to the area a year and a bit ago and have been here reasonably regularly since. The atmosphere is wonderful - Peaceful, quiet and relaxing. The food is lovely too. Probably my favorite place in Suffolk!

The best coffee and food in Sudbury ,very friendly service all food fresh or freshly cooked. Good and reasonable prices, if available the sausage rolls are the best ,hot and just cooked. We do not go anywhere else ,a regular stopping point

Lovely ambience, warm croissants and delicious cake. A cappuccino and an Americano made a very pleasant break. Warmly recommended.

Visited twice recently…very welcoming and nicely laid out and furnished. Excellent sandwiches, panini and coffee. Couldn’t have been better! Limited choice as David away for a no doubt well-earned break, but all nicely prepared and presented. Will be back soon…

Second time popping in here for coffee , Asked for Cheese scone and coffee x 2. Scone clearly heated in microwave as lump of stodge and didn't taste Fresh. Covered in margarine and not asked if this was our preference , total waste of money...

We had a take away meal for our wedding anniversary last night.we had a steak with mushrooms in a light sauce.the steak was done exactly how we like it and it was so so tender and the taste was out of this world.David and his staff cannot do enough for us.we must support them all we can during this lockdown because I cannot wait to go back for the full dining experience

I bought a take away dish of David's homemade Moussaka ; it's truly the best I've ever had! Rich and flavoursome~I'm hooked! I shall make this a regular order and already looking forward to trying other dishes.

My Mum loves David's I had never been there before - Ironically - during eat out to help out - my favourite haunts were all booked up and so our weekly lunch venue had to change - Mum suggested Davids (they didn't sign up to the eat out deal?) - I am so glad she did! WOW - what a really lovely spot to eat this is - The menu is quite small - but I think there is something to suit everybody's taste - and Oh My - what you get is very good! Been back a couple of times now - the Eggs Benedict is the best! Cheese Scones delicious - Mum loves the smoked salmon and eggs - coffee is great and atmosphere so relaxed - nobody under the age of 13 allowed - Don't be infuriated by this!! There are times when it's nice just for grownups to mingle without interruption xx

Popped in for elevenses while visiting Sudbury for the day. The decor is relaxed with shelves of books. David serves a delightful lose tea. I fancied something light to eat and asked if they would do me a beans on toast. No trouble and the bread was lovely. After I could not resist a piece of lemon drizzle cake which was yummy. All very good value. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We are not from the area but if we returned I would pop in again.

Popped in for an early lunch - had the ham egg and chips - my mum requested well done eggs and they were perfect for her - we both agreed the meal was delicious and service was great. Will definitely be back. Oh! we had some cheese scones too - they were lovely - warm, very cheesy.

I called by for a Take-away coffee, even behind my face mask I could smell something seriosly good eminating from the Kitchen.I decided to stay for Lunch, I had the most delicious Open Steak snadwidch, with Toasted Soda Bread, garnished with Mushrooms and Cherry Tomatoes in a Sauce made by Simon. We visited David’s twice over the last weekend, whilst visiting Sudbury. We enjoyed our lunch so much the first day that we returned the next day for round two! On both occasions we had salads- grilled goats cheese and a blue cheese salad. Both had a lovely mix of ingredients and were freshly prepared. I also tried the avocado, tomato and mushrooms on toast which was equally tasty. We would def return if in the area.

Amazing Food & ServiceOver the last few months David & his family have supplied coffee when they could. Then they started Takeaway, burgers or Scampi delicious. Then the occasional takeaway fillet Steak - wow. Tonight the first guests were looked after. Most delicious Steak with home made sauces. Burgers with blue cheese. Thank Thompson family, you have done Sudbury proud.

This bistro is an excellent little family business which offers superb cooked foid, coffee,wine and cakes. Also newspapers, books and even dvds. The family that run it are absolutely marvelous and know you by name We love coming here. Its our personal secret favourite.

Passing through & great coffeeI had heard on the grapevine that you could get one of Thompson’s great coffees so I rang ahead, no queuing nor waiting as we are not allowed to, I was asked if I wanted anything else, one of the famous bacon and egg subs was waiting as well - wow. Brilliant service a couple of times a week what a boon.

What were we missing more than anything in this lockdown - David's coffee. Well, surprise, surprise much to our amazement David has opened for take away coffees and scones, wonderful. It made our day last Wednesday to call in, have a chat and buy our coffee and cake. Tasted so good and as we walked through Sudbury and two people asked where we brought our coffees from. Looking forward to next Wednesday as we have ordered hot dogs and coffee, (David is extending his menu already). What would we do without this great man and his amazing menu.Keep up the good work David as it's so much appreciated in this very strange time.

Went in for lunch and ordered drinks and food. Drinks arrived promptly. Waited and waited for food. After 25 minutes we were informed meals would be another 10 minutes. David had apparently been chatting with other guests and when he eventually returned to kitchen he forgot to turn the oven on again. The waitress apologised and kindly waived the bill for the soft drink. We left really disappointed and had a delicious lunch in Painters opposite.

What a little gem! This venue, which curiously bans under-13's, is ideal for breakfast in that we were well-looked-after, with excellent coffeee arriving promptly, followed by perfectly-cooked scrambled eggs with delicious smoked salmon. The menu appears to be restricted to those items they do well (can't argue with that), and the environment is spaciously laid-out such that you are not cramped - (if only I was local) I could see myself lounging here with newspapers and more coffee (or possibly wine!) for many an afternoon. Highly recommended, especially without young children...

Easy to find this delightful place provides a variety of dishes for lunch and evening meals. David is famous for his coffee which never disappoints. An array of photos and memorabilia on the walls showed the owner had been a Formula Ford racing driver. Luckily we were able to have a chat with him which proved really interesting.

I had my second best bacon sandwich Of all time at David’s Cafe on Monday, the best ever was at Edgbaston during a ODI a few years back, what set that sarnie apart was that it included a spread of soft sage and onion stuffing, David has promised to do the same for us at our next visit, can’t wait!!

we live locally but this was our first visit to David's - went in to order lunch but one of the staff walked pass our table 3 times not acknowledging us at all - we sat there about 10 minutes and the place was half empty and staff just chatting - then we read card on table "if you wait longer than 5 minutes go to counter!" - so they were just chatting waiting for us to come to them - not the best way to treat customers - also table was not clean so we left - there are so many "friendly cafes" in Sudbury - so why go and eat somewhere you dont feel welcomed

I went for brunch with my mum to this lovely, locally run cafe. We couldn't believe how relaxed everyone was either reading the paper or a book. David actually came out and checked that we were happy and had a chat.

We found David's while traveling and had stopped off for a breakfast break. Well we certainly struck lucky finding David's restaurant. Great food cooked to order, we ordered scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and poached eggs on smashed avocado on gluten free toast. Both superb choices. Great ambience...fabulous there was NO annoying music, no children just great food, great service.....really enjoyed a peaceful breakfast. Well done David. We will certainly call in again when we are n your neck of the woods.

Great little cafe, v relaxed and friendly with some great characters amongst the regulars. Poached egg on avocado was delicious and perfectly cooked. Flat white was strong as it should be. Highly recommended. Free papers to read, and books too.

Lovely relaxed lunch in a place with atmosphere and ambiance. We both had a Suffolk ham sandwich which had the softest; freshest bread and was full of ham; chutney and salad - delicious and served with a small side dish of lightly salted crisps

As it says above. You will get the best coffee in Sudbury and the best eggs Benedict for miles. You won't be disappointed.

nice food, a calm atmosphere, no children allowed so the people tend to be older; there are books to flick through, an extensive DVD library, and no one hurries. No wifi, either.

This is a child free zone, and despite the fact that we like well behaved children, it makes for a relaxed time while eating breakfast, lunch or brunch. Newspapers available along with many cookery books to pursue while waiting if you don't want to chat with your companions. Food is very good and well presented - absolutely delicious.

I loved coming to this place - the staff, atmosphere, decor and beverages. The mocha was quite simply the best I have ever had!
