Darcy's in Fareham

We have visited Darcys in Porchester many times but I have to say that after todays visit we will not be rushing back … We entered the cafe and asked an employee if they had a table for 4 please.Her reply was *Weve got what you can see* Not quite the way I would have expected to be spoken to ……There were a few vacant seats but not 4 together …We decided we would wait until a table became vacant ,which It did ,after not too much of a wait … We chose our meals ,3 of which were jacket potatoes …*we’ve run out of jacket potatoes *not even a sorry we’ve run out … We settled for 3 lots of sandwiches and 1 Toastie …. I think they forgot about making the toastie as we had all finished our sandwiches before it had arrived and that was after we had to ask when it was coming… To say we were disappointed in our visit today is an understatement….We certainly didn’t have the friendly service that we have had in there previously ….

Omg this was amazing 🤩🤩!!! It was amazing food good quality. Great service and great price all staff were hilarious 😆😂 and I loved the experienc!!

There is nowhere quite like Darcys for a warm welcome and wonderful food.It is an exceptional,family run community place. The food is freshly prepared,not expensive and always exceptional. The jacket potatoes are the largest I have ever been served,the homemade chill wonderful. If you’ve never been to Darcys you really should.

We visited Darcys in Portchester NOT Fareham. The cafe was fairly quiet and we easily got a table by the window, where we watched the world go by. I ordered the sausage toastie and my friend a baked potato. We didn't have to wait long and the food was delivered by a friendly waitress. The plates were full with a generous salad to compliment our meals. My toastie was excellent and my friends potato was cooked to perfection. I recommend this cafe for a quality experience every time. Thank you Darcys. We will be back

How can I not write a review for my local coffee shop which I visit frequently with my chum. Staff are brilliant here. Menu is extensive, my flat whites are always perfect and great toast. Wonderful place in Portchester and they signed up to Eat out to help out scheme so result.

Nice coffee, lovely cake, and fab toasted sandwiches. Helpful busy staff look after this thriving cafe.

Really lovely bright, sunny cafe. Great coffee - I know because I don't need any sugar! Very friendly staff, they remember their local's regular order. Tasty paninis and jackets, lemon meringue just like you used to have as a kid! No music which for me is a bonus. Good view across the precinct to people watch and be nosy!

Lovely little place on the corner, very busy. Good service, good food and at a very good price... Can recommend this for a light lunch etc etc

A warm and friendly atmosphere to take a load of and enjoy a warming brew, some nice cake and a great catch up with friends.

I booked a table at Darcy's for my Mum's 75th Birthday. We arrived and the manageress came out and immediately wished my mum a happy birthday and gave her a hug and kiss - she was totallt surprised. She then said it was nice to meet me as well. We ordererd our lunch which was, as usual, amazing. Then all the staff came to our table, with a lovely slice of cake, complete with candle and sang Happy Birthday to my lovely Mum. She was overwhemed and shed a few tears! How lovely. As we left the manageress came out again to wish my mum a Happy Birthday and gave us both a hug. Fantastuc Staff, Amazing Food but most of all the Personal Touch which is a rareity. Well Done Darcy's you're amazing xxx

I visit Darcys for a coffee or lunch with friends quite regularly, it serves a good selection of light bites and drinks, the staff are always lovely and helpful.... definitely worth a visit.

Some days, you don't feel happy and just need to sit down with a good cup of coffee and read a newspaper. Others, you want to share your good mood . and have a good chat with somebody! Where would you find this other than a local, well run, friendly and customer focused café? This is what Darcy's does best. This is not a multi national establishment. This is the equivalent to your local corner shop, where the people serving you know what you are going to order well before you tell them ! Why don't you try Darcy's ? You'll love it !

I've been coming here for years and can honestly say this place is amazing. Staff are friendly, the food is delicious, and the coffee is to die for. I come here every Saturday once my art class has finished :)

I always use this cafe its above and beyond food great only to be matched with great staff win win they dont do chips but the rest of the choice is really good

I have visited this lovely cafe twice now and both times the food was excellent. First visit i had a chicken salad . On the second occasion i had a prawn jacket potato both meals were good value for money. The staff are very helpful. I will definitely be making a third visit.

Friendly local cafe usual cafe type meals I had Jacket Potato with coronation chicken it came loaded with chicken a nice salad on the side the coffee was good free parking close by the air conditioning was welcome in this heatwave or there are some tables outside of you prefer prices are usual cafe prices two drinks and two light meals was £11

Look, I’ll make this really simple. I’ve wanted my own coffee business for about 3 years, and I’ve researched the market to death. I asked the owners if they’d considered franchising. That’s how right they have it. So go there and get exactly what you should be able to get from the chains. But don’t.

The staff here are so friendly and helpful and the food is always excellent.It just feels such a pleasant place to visit. We are regular users.

We pop in quite often for coffee and a sandwich which usually ends up as a jacket potato with special fillings - the food is just so good one wants it all - we adore this place so clean, no rush and so well cared for

Had an excellent lunch at Darcys today. I had bacon, Brie and cranberry panini and my friend had tuna mayonnaise jacket potato. Both were delicious. The service was excellent. The staff were lovely they seemed really concerned you had a good experience. There were smiles and humour all round which leant itself to the relaxed atmosphere. Well done Darcy’s we will return if in the area again. Don’t change anything you have everything absolutely right.

With Portchester shopping centre in close proximity, and just across a road from the main precinct, Darcy's proved to be an ideal place to stop for afternoon tea. We particularly liked the choice of seating inside or out, so we decided to sit at the tables on the adjacent pavement. The service was quick, efficient and pleasant, and the tea, coffee and cakes were very nice, with good portions, and reasonable prices. Darcy's is well worth a visit.

Darcy is a great place to meet friends, whether just for coffee and a chat, or for lunch. Coffee is great, food is delicious and ample servings. Staff and management are extremely friendly and efficient. They all make you feel right at home. Thoroughly recommended.

Popped in here for a lunch time snack and coffee after visiting the Portchester market. Our coffee and toastie was just fine. Staff were pleasant and efficient. Will pop in again.

Always pop in there if going to Fareham or Portchster very friendly, cafe latte to my liking not to strong or bitter it's mellow & smooth & do a great toasted tea cake right up our street.

Had a meeting here with some friends/colleagues. My colleagues arrived a little before me and sorted out their drinks. By the time I arrived there was quite a queue that seemed to move quite slowly. Eventually the queue went down and when I got to the front I gave the person behind the counter a big friendly "Hello" - and received no response whatever except a bored "don't bother me, it's busy!" look. So I made my order and didn't get a please or thank you throughout the transaction. Drinks and cakes/biscuits were all very nice. Cakes/biscuits a bit pricey. It was only as we left that a young lady said "thank you" as we stepped out of the door (she was sweeping up outside). She was the one redeeming feature and the difference between a three star rating and a two star rating.

Yummy cakes and food. Boys enjoy it here. Always busy and staff very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended

After a walk along Portchester shore my husband and I called here for a coffee. As it was a warm day we wanted to sit outside, as all the seating outside was occupied we went inside to our suprise we found it was air conditioned and comfortably cool. Unlike other stuffy cafes we have visited in the area. Our coffee was just right and we also had a delicious slice of caramel apple pie. The staff were very polite and friendly and the cafe was clean and attractive. Definitely worth a visit.

The lattes are very milky and creamy. The cakes were very filling which was angel cake. The coffee is shop is popular with locals.

A very nice wee cafe blighted by the refusal to accept the Queens currency. I am well aware of counterfeit money in circulation and a good way of checking is by putting the note under the ultraviolet scanner and having a good look for telltale signs if fake or not. The staff member took one look at the said note and saw "Scotland" and refused said note without taking proper action to see if it was fake. We were then told they were being cautious as they had been scammed last month. Surely if they scanned every note that wouldn't happen. We later went into McCoy's over the road to buy cigarettes and used said note with no fuss made at all. Yes it was scanned but I expect that in every store/shop. Really fed up of this discrimination everytime we visit England. From a very disgruntled Scotsmen.

Darcy's is a wonderful little coffee shop! I love the environment and atmosphere, the staff are very friendly and the service is great! They have the best scones that they make fresh on a regular basis! If you're ever in the area, you must try their scones with some cream and jam!

Lots of choices from either drinks or food always served with a friendly smile a toasted sandwich is like a meal as it comes with lots of salad their cakes are always on our list always tasty

We always use Darceys when we are in Portchester. It's good to support local business rather than the other coffee shop in the village which is part of a chain. Food is excellent and plentiful. I defy anybody to use all the butter and jam which comes with a toasted teacake! An absolute treasure.

I regularly use Darcy's as I work in Portchester. The food is excellent- I usually go for the chicken, bacon & mozzarella panini. Drinks are great as well. Somethings through, the staff can come across a little blunt in their ways and can make you feel somewhat unwelcome, although the majority of the time they are friendly... I guess it's just luck of the draw. All-in-all though, fantastic little coffee shop and I would highly recommend it.

Christmas came early with a complimentary brandy or Baileys.Luckily a short stroll from Portchester station as I was waiting for the London train.Love the place anyway - so friendly even when busy - but how nice is that to start the day! Thank you Darcy's. Might just have to call in on the way home, too!PS they just offered the people next to me seconds!

We popped in here one afternoon while shopping had coffee and cake. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Seems like a very nice place for a quick snack which we will try very soon

This is my second review of the most popular café in Portchester. I have been going there for years now and nothing has changed. The food is always good and so is the service. If you have ever watched "Cheers" on the box, you will get to know what the welcome is. Most people will either know you or acknowledge you at the very least. The café is easy to find, parking is no problem, you will leave the place with a full belly and a smile on your face! Coffee is good too! What more do you want?

I popped by here on my way home I don't vist often as it's always busy and I prefer quieter places but the service is great friendly and they serve the best coffee i tried the bacon and cheese baguette which was good and had lots of filling Nice Cafe. Easy to find parking

Been visiting here for quite a while and its a good place. Nice staff and always friendly. You will usually find me sat outside enjoying my double shot americano watching the world go by.

Had toasted sandwiches and hot drinks, A member of staff swept the floor as we sat and made sure our table was clean. ordered our food and drinks and within a few minutes were served. No complaints here at all. sandwiches were all good and came with a tasty little salad. asked if we wanted any sauces and they were brought out straight away. Happy days :)

Great coffee, friendly staff and a free biscotti every time. At christmas you even get a free shot of brandy or irish cream, you really can't complain!

When I walked in the staff were all sat around a table and looked at me like I was an inconvenience to their day!When one of them finally stood up to take my order they bluntly spoke to me.A different staff member was then walking around the cafe in her coat and sat outside where customers had literally just got up and she started to smoke her cigarette. Talk about unprofessional! She then proceeded to enter the cafe not even removing her coat or washing her hands to make a coffee for a customer! I was sat on my table when another member of staff put a tray full of drinks on my table just so she could offload it to customers nearby. Absolutely horrendous visit. Will definitely not be returning!

I have been in here regularly over the past few years, and I would say consistency and continuity make this place. The food is always as I would expect for a yummy café although a better cake selection would not go a miss as this isn't my favourite cake place. But for lunch it is somewhere I am always keen to stop in. The staff are attentive and friendly and the place is clean and tidy and nicely furnished. The other big positive is that despite it always being busy you never feel rushed, I often go in for a coffee only and sit and read my book and I never feel this is badly looked on which I truly appreciate. Keep it up Darcys you are my favourite local when in Portchester.

You know exactly what you are going to get when you visit. Excellent service and food with a brilliantly relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. I asked my grandchildren where shall we have lunch thinking they would want fast food and they both answered together DARCY'S. Excellent drinks and sandwiches, perfectly served. Also, I have seen them handle an error and they responded perfectly, the customer is always right in darcy's. Will be there again soon.

Having travelled down from London I didn't have high expectations because similar places there aren't that good normally. However, this place was large, clean, plenty of tables, good prices and really good food. It was lunchtime on a hot day and place was busy, with people also sitting outside.The staff were friendly and accomodating. I needed a place to plug in my laptop and they sorted it. They did look a little surprised when I asked if they had wifi but apart from that everything was excellent. The customers are slightly older but that just goes to show there is good food here.Tiny criticism would be that they don't take credit cards. I would have bought more if I could pay by credit card. And they would probably get a wider range of customer ages if they had free wifi to pull in students and teenagers. That said, the food was really good, with huge portions and a good selection. Coffee came with a chocolate logo on top which was a nice touch.Would definitiely come back here again for lunch if ever in town. Recommended.

we visit a elderly family member living in Fareham and we all Soooo Look forward to our lunch @ Darcey's. its the best food So FRESH Tasty. staff are all lovely helpful. Best Panni's i've had tasty ham so fresh.it's always busy. lovely cup of tea @ coffee. we have recomended Darcey's to others. great place.always look forarwd to a visit. all the way from london.EXCELLENT FOOD. Darcy's is just across from the pedestrianized shopping centre which is why we have not found it before. Very busy around lunchtime for good reason, a clean, friendly, happy and relaxed place for coffee or cakes, good sandwiches and toasties. Can't be faulted. Even their jacket potatoes looked as though they'd been baked not micro-waved (I'm not allowed them). Why they bother I'm not really sure because people who ordered them seemed to discard the skin which is absolutely the best bit. It really is worth popping in if you're passing as the FREE car park is about 100 yards away.

I have been a customer of "Darcy's" for a long time. The food has consistently been excellent and fairly priced. As a fussy Frenchman, I have always appreciated the efforts made to present me with tasty food and drinks. I have gone there just for a coffee, for a slice of cake, for a snack and for all of the above at once! I have never been disappointed. The staff are cheerful and efficient. I have spent many hours there reading their papers and watching the world go by! I also go there for the best friendly abuse that money can buy! I have fantasies about the owner of the place. Maybe I should not bring this subject up! She might hit me the next time I visit! "Darcy's" is the best community café that you will ever come across. Try it!

This is a super place that always seems to do what it says on the sign. It is a friendly location where young and older, mums and children through a range of ages, meet, eat and drink. There are always a good number of staff and at busy times it is hard to find a seat but in my view, worth the wait. I think the place sets out to cater for people and not just sell food and drink. I have seen disabled people in various buggies really welcomed and looked after. So for coffee, cake, sandwiches that have always been fresh this is an excellent clean, tidy and welcoming stop point.

Can't fault the food or coffee, nice atmos (modern and clean). Very child friendly, always filled with mum's and babies. No Costa's in Portchester, this is the next best thing!

It was a wet Saturday lunchtime when I visited. There were quite a few spare seats and lots of staff on hand so no long waits. Slightly disappointed they don't have a specials board and there was no chili but the jacket potato and Americano I had were very good. No background music, so all you hear is other people's conversations. Average prices and friendly staff.

Stopped here for a latte and slice of bakewell both were most enjoyable.

I hadn't been here before but my Granny goes all the time and loves it! Went with my mum, sister and 15-month old daughter. Staff were all friendly and very welcoming, and couldn't have been more helpful - they even heated up the meal I had brought for my daughter. The highchairs provided were clean.The food was great - quickly prepared, and presented nicely. Very tasty light lunches, with a good selection of drinks too.A nice place for families, or (I am told by my Granny!) a good place for the older generation to meet in a friendly environment

Been here a few times now and standards seem to deteriorate with each visit. Will not be returning again. Food is average at best and expensive for what it is, staff are borderline rude and certainly not helpful or attentive. This is not a child friendly establishment at all and if you do venture in with a small person then be prepared to be tutted at, looked at disapprovingly and barked at by the staff. There are too many tables which makes it awkward to negotiate your way around to the tables, you would never get a wheelchair round and it's difficult for the less mobile. On a plus side, the toilet was clean and smelt nice!

Found this little gem by accident, we were looking for somewhere to have a coffee and a bite to eat. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our coffee was really nice with a really nice touch of the shop name done in chocolate on top of our cappuccino's. The shop was very comfortable and warm, our paninis were very nice indeed, hot and fresh. We needed directions to Fort Nelson, the owner very kindly drew us a map with directions which helped us find it very easily. We live over 30 miles away sadly, but would definately go back when in the area.

I went in here for a quick coffee. The staff were more concerned with smoking than serving custmers. The coffee wasn't great. One member of staff came back in and served without even washing his hands, I then found out she was the owner. Not very hygenic really!!!

We have had coffee here many times and eaten snacks and light meals a few times too. It's the best cafe in portchester and very good value for money too. The coffee is very good, up to costa or Nero standards but for much less cost. Cakes are superb. Relax in a comfy sofa or take a table if you are having a meal.
