Dans Le Noir in Islington

Well that was quite something! When they say dining in the dark, they really mean DARK! It’s pitch black in there! Although it may seem quite overwhelming to think about but it’s genuinely worth doing! Food was served beautifully, although not discovered until after eating it! Service staff are courteous and helpful and the restaurant itself, the bits I could see anyway, was lovely! It’s really quite an experience for someone who perhaps wants to emulate what it may be like for someone with a visual impairment to eat at a restaurant or for people who just want to try something new! Attended with quite a large group and they were able to cater to all dietary needs with no issues! The price point for the food itself may be high but for the experience itself, it was well worth the money! I think I’m tempted to return in the future!

Birthday surprise treat! Loved this experience. Never did anything like it before. Enjoyed every part of it. I don’t want to say too much about it as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. What I can say is, I personally loved it. I would recommend it. It is absolutely dining in the dark. You can’t see a thing. All your other senses kick in. The waiters and waitresses who are blind are phenomenal. Our waiter Gaud (most definitely spelt that wrong. Sorry) was incredible, funny, helpful, there were a few in our party that don’t like the dark and one who is a fussy eater. But all of us had a wonderful time, felt safe and tried everything and definitely had a new experience. Even though some wouldn’t do it again. I would. And can’t wait to take others to try it too. A good experience but be prepared for very ordinary food. Rather bland and smelt of school dinners. The best part was our lovely waitress and the rest of the staff.

This is an absolute gem of an experience - the staff were amazing, especially our attentive, kind and funny waiter Ghow! We loved our food and it tasted so fresh even if we weren’t too sure what it was (which is the idea).

Went as 2 couples. I was a bit panicky in the dark to start with as you're searching for light. There isn't any. I found it better if I closed my eyes. Our server was Courtenay and she was reassuring. I found it fascinating trying to find my food, my mouth, my drink. The food was lovely and it was a surprise when we saw after what we'd eaten afterwards when back in the bar. I'd go again if I knew it was a new menu( which they do appear to change). The only negative was that we were ushered out soon after to make room for new diners. Having spent £500 on food and cocktails for 4, it was a disappointing end to the experience to be asked to leave. Suggestions : You need a bigger bar area!

Truly fantastic unique experience!! Our Server Ghow was Brilliant. Everyone should try this restaurant at least once‼️ We were told the menu changes every four months so I will be revisiting The Food was very tasty and literally YOU CANNOT SEE NOTHING. I have to be honest with this one to save others spending £150 for a basic meal in a weird place. We were kept waiting for ages in the bar before we went in, drinks are £14 for a cocktail which are tiny so you could spend a fortune on drinks before you ever go through! The restaurant itself is genuinely pitch black, no problem here, as expected but it smells weird and feels really crowded, I assume the tables are all very close together. You do sit on shared tables but we were aware of this, just have to be lucky with who you have next to you. After reading about it and everyone saying it heightens your other senses I expected the food to be delicious, wondering with every mouthful what flavours I could sense. How wrong was I?! The food was bland, over cooked and inedible. I won’t give it away but the veg was mush, the meat chewy and tasteless and the sauce was horrendous, overpowering everything on the plate. The starter was tiny, and one thing on the plate, where are my exciting flavours?! The dessert was the most edible but mainly because it was again just mush with some caramel to crunch and a couple of pieces of cheap cooking chocolate, with a splash of passion fruit. Why are people raving about the food?! If I could see it, it would have all been sent back and I’d not have paid! Really disappointing experience, couldn’t get out of there quick enough.

Interesting concept, but very badly executed. First we were greeted by a host who is CONSTANTLY shouting. I think it was because of the headset that she had on her ear. But it was very unpleasant.
