Danny's in Brighton and Hove

I have been eating poor Chinese food for decades without knowing it. I am now educated after eating at Danny’s. There is a delicacy and finesse I haven’t experienced before. We were there with three generations in our family and every one of us was entirely satisfied. My favourite (crispy shredded chilli beef) was astoundingly good. But I was introduced to new culinary adventures (crispy seaweed, grilled pork dumplings, salt and chilli squid). What I was left knowing was the skill and care taken in preparing these dishes. I could taste it. The mixed vegetables were divine – again very delicate and light in their flavours. Most of us in the group ordered more of everything. We chose the buffet which suited us all very well and the variety of dishes was excellent. The sticky, over sweet offerings I’ve had everywhere are not worth anything, I feel educated now and commend everyone – from the talented chef to the waiting staff. The only dish that was now what I expected were the apple fritters – being filled with virtually raw apple. But this didn’t detract from the overall experience and certainly doesn’t even merit taking any stars away! Later that month I was called back to Brighton and ordered a take away. This didn’t disappoint. The lovely chap who delivered was on time (this rarely happened anywhere!) and a delight to deal with. I wish the owners would bring their business to Amersham – plenty of available premises, It’s desperately needed and would be busy every day of every week!

Another great evening spent at Danny’s. We had prebooked a few weeks ago and were lucky to get a round table for six. Amazing staff and amazing food. Reliably good. Love the starters, the duck/ lamb pancakes and the mains. See pics re menu etc Highly recommended. Well worth going out of your way for.

Not the same. Memories of Danny's being amazing. Not anymore, the food is tasteless and mediocre. You don't get great service now, no water offered. 3 starters missing, 2 mains missing. Beef inedible. Pancakes cold and hard. It's with regret that this time was the last.

Great restaurant with a great atmosphere. Each made to order dish arrived quickly and was delicious. Staff were all very welcoming and the service was first rate. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

We ordered a takeaway of set menu for two last night. Were looking forward to our anniversary meal but didn't want to have meal inside restaurant due to busy time. The food was collected by my husband who didn't check exactly what was and wasn't inside the carrier bag so because of that he takes part of the responsibility for fact that the pancakes for the duck were omitted from the order. We were prepared to overlook this until we began serving the rest of the food. To say this was horrible is a vast understatement as despite being very hungry we were unable to eat more than half and even this was far from enjoyable! The duck was very dry and the hors d'oeuvres tasteless, all in all a mistake that won't be repeated!

Excellent. I love this place and the staff are very friendly. I've been a couple of times recently. They never rush you. Both times have been at lunchtime when it's quieter so can't comment on whether it'd be the same in the evening. It's also spotlessly clean

One of my best dining experiences in recent years. A good choice of well prepared, tasty food. The buffet style ordering means you can try more things and the portion sizes are sensible. And the fixed price is very reasonable

busy...busy ..busy...only with my family of 12....and maybe 6 couples dining aswell....my family didn't and couldn't eat what they ordered...and we was sitting 2hrs with a few bowls of special fried rice to share.....absalute load of dog....having booked 2 weeks before....never again will any of us enter the promises....unless want to dehydrate.......looks a blinder but load of cack

This was my first time at this restaurant great value for money the food was great no sooner had we ordered the food was being served all on hot plates. The service team were very polite and friendly. Thank you all for a memorable meal.

Have been a take away customer of Danny's for years, but had never been to the restaurant until this evening. Was a late anniversary treat! We went for the buffet and got to try a large variety of dishes. The food is amazing and so fresh. We knew it was good, when it was delivered but even better in person. The satay sauce is some of the best I've ever had! Staff were very attentive and we had a very enjoyable evening. Would highly recommend them for a meal in the restaurant or for a take away

Been for the first time today and really enjoyed it. Can't fault food, service or the restaurant at all. Also the portion sizes are perfect and they are happy to bring more if wanted (set price buffet of course). Happy to recommend to anyone and will be returning at some point in the future

We love Danny’s and often eat in and take out. The food is always amazing and the service is normally spot on. This last experience will not stop us going but I have to say, I was shocked and left a little speechless after last visit this week. They were fully booked but found us a table for 4 at 20:30. Normally impossible to get a table. When you go buffet menu, you pay a decent sum of money to eat whatever you like and as much as you like. We tend to stick mostly to starters as much prefer picky food. We did several rounds of different starters, and kept being asked if we were ready to move to mains. In fact we were asked multiple times and it felt we were being rushed. We continued to enjoy a couple of starters at a time. Next think we know one waiter had cleared our cutlery. Then Another waiter came and took our table cloth. Another shot over and showed us the dessert menu. This being 21:45 and another 45 mins before close. Finally we pointed to the dinner menu to move to a few mains, only to be told the kitchen had closed and we were to finish up and settle bill. This was before 22:00. Don’t get me wrong, my two lads can get through a chunk of food each and we were getting our moneys worth, but the bill came to £140 and when it says all you can eat buffet, I expect to be allowed to do exactly that. Gutted to have to write this but felt somewhat cheated and dealt with in an underhand manner. We will be back, and I hope this doesn’t happen again. £26 per head isn’t cheap and I expect to be able to enjoy my food at my pace and not be rushed. Hope for an improved service next time. Food was excellent, just wished we had got to our mains before effectively feeling like we were no longer welcome. No tip this time I’m afraid!!!

Arrived on the Sunday of bank holiday weekend ,we hadn't booked but we managed to get a table . We had the set menu at £26.95 a head . Food was lovely ,staff were very friendly ,service was super quick but we didnt feel rushed ,I would definitely return if we were in the area .

We had a great meal at Danny's today, food high standard for all you can eat buffet, freshly served to you by friendly staff, Our waiter Bis was very attentive, filling up or glases, getting fresh cutlery and plates, didn't feel pressured into buying more than we needed, we all rated 10/10, clean and newly decorated, food fresh and tasty... staff welcoming... with the increase of cost of living they put price up slightly but definitely worth it... we will return soon. Had family lunch here today - and couldn’t be happier. We booked a late table, and with the kitchen closing at 4 we were still ordering dishes at 4pm. But they kindly kept the kitchen open to prepare them for us, with no complaints. Very friendly, professional and helpful staff, with timely arrival of food. We ate a LOT! And they were always happy to bring us more. The Menu isn’t huge, which I felt was good. The quality of everything we ate was 10/10. And I felt good value at £29.95 a head for as much as you want. And the restaurant has a nice feel. Do visit - places like this need our support in these difficult times. We’ll definitely be back

Really lovely food. All you can eat, however it's all cooked fresh to order. The staff are attentive and very helpful and they clear table in between courses. Consistently good every time we've been. Highly recommend.

Visited here last night after reading good reviews here and I must say it was very good,food tasted good and freshly cooked and not rushed £24.99 per person for all you can eat was great value also,you pick from the menu and it’s mostly the best things on the whole menu not filling you up with the cheap stuff,or served already cooked and help yourself,the wine was reasonable also,all in all a very nice evening meal in a nice buzzy atmosphere

Good takeaway - their crispy beef actually has beef you can taste in it !!! Decent quality chicken used in the kung po chicken. Special fried rice has a good quality of red pork and chicken in it , which I think is important !!! Haven't tried the beef dishes yet.

The best full stop.. Update 29.7.23 still as good as ever. Definatley one of my favorites.

In my opinion, BEST Chinese in Brighton & Hove! Love the small menu not going into 100's of dishes. Everything is cooked to perfection. I love the simple Chicken Chow Mein while I'm working late (like right now). The soft shell crabs are amazing as well. Lovely staff as well :-) John

On a very wet and windy evening Danny's was a welcome experience, the food was lovely, staff very attentive, atmosphere pleasant. Certainly be back again soon.

Four of us for dinner early on a Thursday evening - good thing we’d booked a table as the place was packed! We chose the fixed price buffet menu at £26.75 per head, all cooked fresh to order. The food was pretty good: although the prawn toast and the spring rolls were over-cooked the satay prawns, ribs and hot & sour soup were all delicious. A large selection of starters was followed by crispy duck and by the time we’d finished that we didn’t really have room for the main course. On balance I think the a la carte menu might be a wiser choice for those with normal appetites. Service was exceptionally good - the staff are experts, friendly and very efficient. There is a bus service along Portland Road although we’ve found it sporadic in the past so we took the car and were lucky enough to find a space outside the restaurant (use the PayByPhone app until 8:00pm when it becomes free). Good atmosphere and certainly worth a visit.

Just moved to the area and Danny's came highly recommended as the best Chinese locally. Did not disappoint. Ordering was a breeze, delivery quick and the food was exceptional!!! This will most definitely be my go-to Chinese takeaway 😍

Me and my family visited Danny’s for the first time for a birthday meal and were blown away by how brilliant it was, the food was unbelievable, the staff were all so kind and helpful in explaining the menu and how the ordering worked, clean establishment with air con for the summer months and brilliant attention from staff to make sure all was well with our experience. I couldn’t recommend this place highly enough, and I can’t wait to come back and enjoy it again!

Was a fairly quiet Sunday afternoon the service and food were fantastic. We had a few kids with us and they were included and spoken to.

Went for my Birthday. They withheld half the £50 deposit I paid because not everyone could make it. So even with it being my own Birthday, which they were well aware of, I effectively had to pay double for my meal. Happy Birthday to me. Thanks Danny's for ruining my birthday for me. They didn't seem to care at all.

The staff is very friendly and professional and the place is clean. We ordered the roast duck that was very dry and overcooked, not fresh at all, very disappointing, the other dishes were average, just okay, we won’t go back.

There's only one problem with Danny's.... bellys not big enough

The staff go above and beyond for their customers and their needs. The restaurant is exceptionally clean and the food was delicious. The only downside is there is no baby change facilities. Other than that it is great.

The absolute best. We went Saturday night. My husband, my self and our grown up sons with wives. The food was fantastic, cooked fresh. There was ample of everything. went to restaurant one day ago food just okay service very poor I do not think I will go to Dannys again I was with all the family 10 people we all said the same not that good service poor food arrives in drips and drabs. you have to ask where dishes are 2/3 times before it arrives. coffee afterwards very poor.

very average food, service not good food arrives in drips and drabs you have to ask where dishes are when they do not arrive. nowhere near the best Chinese restaurant I have eaten in as you can imagine 10 people in our party very large bill not worth half the money we spent very poor. I will not go into what dishes were poor but none of them were very good. as for coffee that was undrinkable. get your act together Dannys.

The best all-you-can-eat, sit down and order, Chinese. I've been here around about 6/7 times now. Never fail to please. The staff are super friendly, very welcoming and they are more than happy to do your birthday's or any other celebrations. I only wish they opened another one, closer to London Road. Highly recommended this place to others.

Fancied a take-away and decided on Danny’s. Rang up with my order and within 25 mins the food was at my door ( free delivery as order was over £15) . Food was very tasty (beef curry, egg fried rice and bbq spare ribs) the ribs were amazing, curry was just right and the egg fried rice I just wanted to eat on its own. All-in-all a great experience. Polite staff, straight forward ordering, food piping hot, and efficient delivery. Highly recommend

Having seen ratings for Danny’s listed here in the past, we used this local eatery for the 1st time recently. T’was my birthday and Mothers’ Day, and, because our health remains vulnerable we needed to use their takeaway service so we could eat at home. We cannot tolerate chilli so were carful to choose Set Menu A, for which all the food items listed on their set menu had no red chilli symbols by the descriptions. We always eat our main meal at lunchtimes, so, knowing they’d be busy for lunch that day, we phoned the night before to pre-book our delivery for about 1.15pm the next day – unfortunately, only to be told that they do not deliver lunchtimes – important information that is not on their website, so we had to collect it. Sadly, some of the food DID contain chilli, which disappointed us a great deal and ruined our enjoyment. Overall, we considered that, for the amount of food given, it was overpriced, too; the duck was overcooked and did not have much meat on it at all, and the rice was overcooked. I suggest that Danny’s puts the information about lunchtime non-delivery and puts the red chilli-symbol against ALL chilli-containing foods on its menus on the website asap. Thank you.

Food is so amazing but ordering a take away is frustrating, the phone is always engaged tried for a whole hour, I popped in to order but wasn’t too keen on the customer service as was looked at like I had done something terribly wrong by asking to order! Shame as the food is so amazing but it shouldn’t be so hard to order a takeaway

This is an all you can eat buffet , with a difference. The difference is the food is freshly prepared to order. You can order as much or as little as you want. The plates are freshly served if you more of something all you...

Fantastic Food and Service, went way above my expectation considering the price. Staff went the extra mile. Food was of very high quality, notably the chilli Squid, prawn toast, aubergine with black bean, chill prawn and the Duck pancakes! Nearly everything was brilliant. I’d just say that the lamb alternative on offer was no where near as good as the aromatic duck so don’t bother with it. The pork dumpling weren’t the best.

Perhaps it was an off night, but this takeaway meal was awful. Some items were omitted, a prawn and ginger dish had no ginger at all, but came swimming in a sea of onions. The duck (at £40) was not crispy and was dry and...

Been using Danny's for yrs, rarely disappoints,

having posted on here about 3 years ago raving about the restaurant i went on friday 3/2 with a friend for a meal and catch up . The restaurant was really busy and we seemed to be in the busiest part. The food was very greasy , and not the same standard as previousl. The duck looked as if it has seen much better days and had been reheated so was so tough we couldnt eat it. Mentioned to staff member but they were not helpful at all . We both left quite quickly afterwards - not a relaxing evening at all - very disappointed with service, food and the price would not recommend to anyone again -sorry

This is the nicest Chinese food I have ever eaten. The Buffet is served fresh and is a very good price all the dishes I tried were delicious full of flavour.

Lovely food but not impressed with service charge on drinks.£3 added to £21 bottle of wine.

Food usually ok. My wife ordered Tofu Satay. Ate a bite, then to realise it was Chicken satay. She's been a vegetarian for 30 years. Called up to complain, all they did was send us a £5 voucher that everyone receives when they order anyway. The Tofu itself was over £5 so I really don't see how this is any justification. Dissapointing, especially as we were told we would receive a cash refund over the phone.

Food is absolutely amazing spots on the trouble is they do have a tendency of rushing you which is not too pleasant

Sadly this was the worst Chinese food that I have tasted. My dining guest and I were really looking forward to this but it was tragic. The ribs starter were as hard as bullets and the crispy duck was so dry the waiter had a full on work out shredding it. The kung pao chicken was tasteless and bland with zero spices..so so disappointed that I won't be returning. ..no care or pride in the food.

We just had a lunch for a large group of us of c 20. The restaurant was clean, bright and had a great buzzy atmosphere. The manager was friendly and attentive & all of his team were both helpful, smiley and efficient. We were impressed...

Danny's is by far the best Chinese in Brighton. Been ordering from here for years and I have always been satisfied, absolutely no complaints on my end. Great value for money, caters for vegans and vegetarians, absolutely quality service all around, if you are thinking of ordering from here or dining in, do not hesitate! You will not be disappointed.

The food and service are amazing

Food was tasty. Only slight criticism was that vegan options were not on the menu and had to be specially requested. Options were mainly tofu, tofu and more tofu!
