Daniels Fish & Chips in Weymouth and Portland

All freshly cooked, the cod was excellent with melt in the mouth batter and perfect chips. The mushy peas were perfect and the tartare sauce was one of the best we’ve had. Great to see sea bass on the menu(see photo), my daughter loved it. Great portion sizes and quality. The young man servicing was very polite and helpful along with another member of staff. Highly recommended.

Ordered online for collection. Order was ready on time however very dissatisfied when opened at home. Ordered a large chips at £5 which was clearly not large, were dry and overcooked . The chips from the kids sausage and chips were hard and overcooked so apart from the sausage most of our order went into the bin. Unfortunately this was not the first time we have been given small portions at Wyke and appears that irrespective of what size you order you get the standard size.

Without doubt the best fish and chips we have ever eaten. Recommended to us by the lady at our campsite (portesham farm campsite) The fish was cooked beautifully and tasted restaurant standard. No grease either. Highly recommended. You should order from here.

Having been extremely disappointed the last time we had these fish and chips we have left ir a few weeks but thought we would try again. This time couldn't have been better, hot and delicious, loads of fish and not just batter, well done Daniel's in Wyke,I will be back.

I had ordered steak pie , chips , curry sauce Then when I got home cut open the pie to find out it was a chicken pie no good Went back they didn’t seem that bothered but changed it , then had to argue for a small portion of chips and curry sauce because mine were cold at home , not great customer service

We arrived in Weymouth today and drove passed this chip shop , which looked very clean indeed , so later today we headed in to see what it was like , IT HAS TO BE 1 OF THE CLEANEST chipshops weve ever visited , my wife had baked potatoe with cheese and beans , large baked potatoe and ample cheese and beans all cooked to perfection , i had steak pie and chips , same again perfect in everyway

I have often had F&Cs from Daniels at Portland Road over the last few years when staying in Wyke with mixed views about the quality. Probably been a year since my last visit. However tonight (17th June) was simply unacceptable. I ordered a large Haddock and chips . When I opened the wrapping at home I could see the fish had been battered and fried to a crisp. £10.50 for an inedible piece of fish . I won’t be back and wil not be recommending it to my holiday guests .

Didn't take long to cook but the chips were very greasy soaking through paper and bag. Fish was soggy too. The curry sauce was good. All in all disappointed as we had been recommended and traveled some way to try.

Had food delivered, including two large fush, both of which were just batter with no fish, having spent £50 would of expected better. Will be sometime before I go back again, very disappointing, as a regular customer feel very let down.

Now I can't moan about the food the food was great however the service isn't so great. I don't mind waiting never have a problem but prioritising just eat orders is wrong. There was only 3 team members in at the time I was waiting with another 2 who came in at 5. I don't understand why businesses do this. Everyone knows rush starts around these times and they get people in when the damage has already happened.this isn't the stages fault they seemed rushed of there feet but higher up should possibly take some care more. The young girl on the front counter deserves some praise she was polite and was smiling the whole time. Just please of any manager or owner is reading this please look at your labour better because this will sadly impact your business in the long run and give your store a bad reputation. You make amazing fish and chips and it'll be a shame to see you suffer because of stagg starting mid rush.

The prices are extortionate and the portion must be well under the weights and measures act. Photo of 2 large portions of chips costing £9:30. Go hungry.

We popped in here after passing by on way to our holiday apartment , went in a was greeted by Daniel very pleasant and polite man , exceptionally clean premises , food excellent and freshly cooked

Forget the fish & chip shops in Weymouth,go for Daniels. The fish was sublime & the chips were fantastic,curry sauce.......absolutely delightful

Had a enormously satisfying round of fish and chips here - one haddock, two ridiculously big cod and a portion of scampi. All very tasty. Cooked fresh and well worth the wait.

Been using this fish and chips shop for a few years now as it was one of the best in the area. Unfortunately, standards apear to have dropped. Two weeks ago, I had to return a chicken burger that was so tough, my son struggled to bite into it. Before returning it, i cut into it with a knife to see for myself how tough it was. The coating under the breadcrumbs was black and extremely hard. Upon returning it, I was given a refund for the chicken burger and they also cooked me a replacement. However, the second one wasn't great. I also didn't appreciate the disruption caused to my meal by having to return to the shop. Last night, we ordered a meal from here for the family. The size of the cod portions were the smallest that we have been given since since using this shop, even though the prices of many items have been increased. The chips were not of their usual standard either, they were soggy. Looks like we will be searching for a new chip shop in the Weymouth area.

Just shows you it depends on who is cooking the fish and serving. I ate probably the best Haddock and Chips in many years just a week ago there. We had a big order to take away. It was cooked to order so you expect to wait. Portions were huge and as I said it was gorgeous. Not cheap but then fish isn't cheap. You get what you pay for. This would be my go to place for fish and chips if I return to the area.

first time of using this new shop had to travel 5 miles to get there and was worried about food going cold but the staff wrapped it so well that when I got home I had the tastiest fish and chips in a long while portion sizes were very good. satisfied customer

I prefer not to buy my takeaways here as the value for money is not as good as elsewhere. Generally overpriced small portions compared with some others I prefer.

We stopped for a quick takeaway. It was around 8 30pm so I can forgive them for the chips being abit stale. But it was great to see them cooking the fish fresh for us and it was probably the best we've had, lovely crispy batter and pure white fish. The sausages were really tasty too.

Great fish and chips and they even cook chesse and onion croquets .we went in on saturday and tge girl that served there was great she even listened to my story about how I use to go to the shop years ago when I was younger and I had told my husband about the place how good it had been then.althougth it's changed owners it's just as good and yes they still had the cheese and onion croquets I had then how amazing is that .my husband loved his fish and the chips were excellent we be back soon it made out Dorset evening ..Jeep up the good work everyone

Thought I’d review this having just reviewed the Chesil Chippie. In many ways they’re similar, as they’re both nice, clean ‘modern’ chippies though this one’s not quite as adventurous as the Chesil Chippie, a bit more traditional in its offering, not that there’s anything wrong with that. We’ve been a few times over the last few months and generally speaking the food’s been pretty good. I seem to recall the first time we came here we were very impressed, on a couple of occasions since then less so, but I think the same could be said for most. Overall very good.

Superb standard at a good price. Really friendly staff. They always cook just what you need and it's always very high quality.

Do away with those huge bloody cardboard boxes you put each fish and chips meal in and you could knock a quid off the price! Chip shops we go to the fish is pretty generous and you can do with ordering one less lot of chips if ordering for the family. Not in this case, not priced well for the portion size, disappointing. Was tasty though.

Although the food was very good unfortunately it wasn't hot enough. A 3 rating feels not enough but a 4 would be too generous.

Very average. Unfortunately they think 'home made' tartare sauce consists of mayonnaise and chopped parsley alone. Wouldn't visit again.

The food was good, typical fish and chips. We noticed they sold award winning pies while we waited for our order. If we ever returned, we'd be tempted to try them. The girls serving were unable to wrap our food so that we could eat it straight away. The wanted to wrap it for us to eat at home. They clearly need lessons.

Every time we come to visit my mother I look forward to a Daniels! Their haddock and chips is the best I've had in the UK, nothing else comes close! Their homemade tartare sauce is divine. Go to Daniels and forget the rest.....

Si tienes un montón de dinero y no se preocupan mucho de ir a ningún otro sitio, pruébelo. Cuando vivía en años atrás, esta era una wyke magnífico revuelto pero los tiempos cambian.

Llegamos a Weymouth un tentempié y no tiene ganas de cocinar, así que paramos en este fuera de la ciudad con enorme aparcamiento chippy ubicado en un complejo de tiendas. De acuerdo con otros que tuve que esperar un rato, pero es un pequeño sacrificio que el pescado está recién hecha para ti. Personal agradable amable y servicial y la comida servida en una caja para comer y mantener la comida caliente. Revivirá como también a un precio razonable comparado con tiendas de la ciudad.

No conseguir un queso y cebolla fritos. . Poco procesados. asqueroso). El pez grande era como una salchicha maltratadas en apariencia. Sólo Dios sabe lo que es un pescado pequeño era. Tamaño de la porción es muy pobre para el precio considerable. Las patatas estaban bien, pero ¿por qué no puedo hacer patatas fritas con un lugares poco de crunch en lugar de terrones de pasada de patata? Y por qué por qué por qué ellos sirven en cajas estos días? No hay nada como el pescado y patatas fritas en papel. . .

We went and got dinner for the family. The prices were ridiculous. We normally go to Alfs but we thought we would go for Daniels for once. But the prices are stupid, and the portions are small.

Ordered 3 cod and chips tonight at this fish and chip shop. The staff are so unfriendly and rude manners don't cost anything. The chips were nice but the fish was the size of a battered sausage, when we queried the size we were virtually shouted at and he informed us it was done by weight. The fish was also very chewy so it was overcookedWe won't be returning.

Staff seem to be pre disposed and unfriendly, service has been very slow every time we have visited. On the expensive side for a chippie, this is our local but we usually travel out to another chippie instead.

We visited Daniels whilst on a day trip to Weymouth and Portland. The great thing is that the fish is cooked to order, which involves a wait, but well worth it.The fish was cooked perfectly and the chips were properly fried crispy on the outside and NOT greasy. A bonus for me was the pea fritter also cooked to order. In all a great meal which we ate on Portland Heights taking in the magnificent views.

Used the Fortuneswell shop during our recent stay - yes you have to wait for the food to be cooked but it does mean it's fresh. Chips were some of the best I've had from a chippie since I was a nipper 50 years ago. Thoroughly recommend if you're in the area

We have used Daniels Fish and Chips in Wyke on many occasions as it is our local and have never had a problem before. Unfortunately though, our good luck ran out. We made a phone call early evening on a Friday night in May, wanting to put a big order in for our 8+ dinner guests. My mum spoke with the manager Paul and advised she wanted a gluten free fish and chips, which may I add, has never been a problem before. Huffing and puffing on the phone was the response. After shouting down the phone to my mum banging on about how busy he was, guilt tripping my mum into changing her mind, he finally accepted the order and told us it would be Half an hour wait. Shocked at the customer service we had received, we put it down to him having a bad day. Once we went and picked up the order, we were greeted by staff with nothing but faces that looked like smacked a*ses, & they basically threw the bag over the counter. Do not advertise gluten free meals if it is that much of a issue. Again, thinking it was a one off bad service, we called on Friday 22nd July, asking for 3 X fish and chips, one to be gluten free. AGAIN, huffing and puffing down the phone, this time by a female (didn't catch the name) we were told it was too busy to do gluten free, so my dad went without. We walked up to collect our dinner after 20 minutes, low and behold - shop empty. No customers whatsoever.As a loyal customer to Daniels fish and chips, we are extremely disappointed and hacked off with the service we received, such a shame that a well known establishment is run by moody jobsworths!! Will not be returning again & will look for an alternative. Many people are celiac in this day & age, and shouldn't have to be made to feel like a burden!! Shame on you!!

Telephoned and order gave 1 hours notice and upon collection we still had to wait. The food was ok - chips not that fresh and a bit cold but ok but my main issue was the way it was packed by the staff into a bag. The fish was put into a proper cardboard fish box (usually used to keep it flat to protect it) and the person turned the box on its side and forced it sideways into a small undersized bag breaking the fish into several bits and squashing the chips and everything else. This was a meal for 6 squashed into 1 bag. We got home and the fish was in over 100 bits and when I unwrapped the chips they were all squashed together like a small football. Attention to detail while packing would make a huge difference here but the fact we had to wait and the price was over average caused me to write this.

Queued for 25 minutes having ordered and paid on arrival. Everything is cooked to order, hence long wait which at busy times is a definite minus, but understand management reducing waste. When home, chips were soggy, the cod batter was no longer crisp but akin to wet cardboard ... in all, really disappointing. Attention is needed to waiting times and the wrapping of meals. A Chinese takeaway is next door and next door to that is a new Pizza Hut both might be a better option if in a hurry.

Have been to this shop over the last year a number of times always good ,until Wednesday night went in around 7 pm no one in asked for a large well done cod , I must admit what seemed like just a couple of minutes later it was ready , when I got it home it was soggy, grease was running of the tray and when I cut into it the fish was brownish and half was very under cooked , I e-mailed them and nothing will not be going back again plenty more good chip shops in weymouth

Daniel's now have several outlets in the borough, Wyke, Abbotsbury Road, Littlemoor... and no matter which one you go to, it is always beautifully decorated, and spotlessly clean. Great range on the menu, something for everyone. I use the one at Wyke quite often, and the cod is heavenly. Huge portions, cooked to perfection, with soft, white, moist cod in a crispy batter. Well worth every penny. They also sell full jars of pickled eggs. Bargain!

Nothing is recooked. Quality is excellent and not too long to wait. Very popular. Prices are competitive. Very clean establishment

Very nice fish and Chip's served here , all cooked fresh to order the service is okay although. For a take away, we ordered large cod and chips twice was asked what size portion of chips wanted with fish and as it was our first visit think we got confused ended up with too many chips price wise it could of been better we paid just under £21.00p for 2 large cod with chips and 2 cartons of curry sauce , we did not return to this takeaway chip shop . fish was nice but I wouldn't say it was the best I've had and at £10.50p each I'd expect it not so greasy

This is my local chippy and I'm glad it is because it's good. Certainly a cut above the average, fresh and tasty.

The chips were excellent, very good quality and had a nice crisp to them. Battered sausage barely had any batter on it at all and the wait for the chips was very long considering it wasn't too busy. The shop operates an order number system rather than just serving people in a queue like any other chip shop.

This fish and chip shop was just down the road from where we stayed and was excellent. Non greasy and healthy sizes - always a must for fish and chips. The staff were really nice too.

The place is clean and inviting , and quality ok . portions of peas and curry are over priced and the chips are bland as is the batter . It is a bit hit and miss depending on the staff turnover .Last winter when we first moved here it was lovely fish and batter - the mid spring it was truly awful -think there was a new person frying and the batter was far too heavy making fish tasteless and they forgot to include the our pease and curry which were paid for . Now it seems more new staff and it is okay /nothing special - visitors would be better taking a trip in to town

Went there yesterday for lunch and had Fish and chips with a tub of curry sauce. It was FANTASTIC fish was huge and crispy freshly cooked to order in only 15mins. Highly recommended

well i live close to this place and i have to say ,its a bit hit and miss,i ordeard a chicken and mushroom pie,not good the pie was microwaved to death,he told me he would do me another,10 minits later,over nucked he then treid to put the contents of one pie in the other(not good) when the food is ok you end up waiting 15 minits

There are just 4 branches of Daniels and the food is excellent, freshly cooked and just good old fashioned fish and chips. My husband had a large haddock and it was so big it would have fed 3 people!

This small local chain is very good indeed. In fact some friend who have had Fish and Chips from Rick Steins takeaway say it's way better!

We had simple cod and chips tonight, from Daniels on Portland. Great chunky chips with a crisp finish. The standard cod was a huge, fresh flakey fillet, cooked to perfection. Lovely grub :)

Love this chip shop (abbotsbury road one, not portland road) as the portions are huge, and quality nearly always great. However, not sure if the same guys are working there still coz the last 2 visits there have been some new staff who aren't quite as generous.

We have used this establishment for our takeaway supper on the two occasions that we have stayed nearby. I do remember that we were disappointed the 1st time but can't remember why, so decided to try again.We both ordered haddock & chips but while the chips were good, the haddock was over cooked. Rather than being flaky, it was chewy & heavy. We would have taken the meal back but were limited for time that evening.A shame but we'll just have to find an alternative.

Never been to Daniels Fish and Chips in Weymouth, but have been to one of their other shops on Portland numerous times over the last five or six years.The food is always freshly fried to order, the staff are friendly and obliging and the food is among the best fish and chips I have ever had (and i've been all of over the UK sampling fish and chips).If you want fantastic fish and chips, then I would have no hesitation recommending Daniels.Please bear in mind, the one on Portland is a takeaway, not a restaurant.

I was staying in the area for work and wanted something to eat. The staff were really friendly and waited awhile. The chips are not as nice compared to where i live but i am fussy. Still check it out if you want something quick.

We had one of the 2 for 1 offer "cod" tasted like Pollock emailed my complaint was offered 1 free fish and chips after saying that i wouldn't eat there again, said to put the money to charity never heard from owner again, presume he never give to charity. Will never use them again even though I live less than 5 mins away.

Poor quality food, ridiculously high prices, tiny portion sizes and staff with attitude problems. The only good thing I can find to say about Daniels is it's proximity to our house and to be quite honest I would rather walk 2 miles barefoot on broken glass to a decent chippie rather than be ripped off by this place. Avoid like the plague.
