This place is a total gem of south Jersey. Been here for my birthday and came back for brunch the same week. If you are into seafood and love cozy bars this is the place to go. They have raw oyster bar but also there are a lot of cooked options. Their jersey deviled eggs and crab cakes are to die for but all the other options are pretty amazing as well. That being said, parking and seating might be limited during peak hours.

Amazing food and great atmosphere. The yellow tuna steak was amazing and the bread pudding is out of this world! Highly recommend. Ryan was the best waitress and extremely helpful. Thank you!

Nothing special about this place. The food is overpriced and the musical entertainment was subpar. For anyone looking for good food at a good price while listening to something exceptional, you've come to the wrong place.

Great experience delicious cocktails.

Sabrina was our server tonight and we sat at a 2-top half-booth in the corner of the restaurant. Impressed is an understatement. Sabrina was on top of every request we had, shared the specials (in addition to some insight on the drink and food menus) and made us feel very comfortable dining with her. We took advantage of her drink and food suggestions, which did not disappoint. I overheard her interact with other tables with ease and grace. We ordered a special, fried artichoke over a creamy pesto aioli; absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection! I'd come again specifically for that as well as the Strawberry Basil Lemonade (alcohol is in this). I always enjoy the shrimp and grits every time I come but was pleasantly surprised with how much we enjoyed the new-to-us dishes we had; deviled eggs, French onion soup and shrimp cocktail. Be patient with any raw bar orders, it comes from a different part of the restaurant and may take longer, but well worth it!

went for all night winter happy hour. listened to some live music, $6 wines and the fried oyster royale was awesome. the oscar fries were good as well but the sauce was kind of soupy. If they made a more traditional thicker hollandaise, it would be a 10.

I have never had a Grilled Pork Chop that literally melts in your mouth! It was absolutely delicious! Definitely 5 STARS

Awesome place to have a great meal and drinks. Service is good but a little slow for drinks. Not the servers fault. But it’s a busy place year round. Food is very good. They have great specials.

Just finished my third visit to this LBI area local favorite and we were not dissappointed. This is a wonderful tavern, steakhouse, seafood, oyster bar and almost anything else in between type of restaurant. It has an amazing menu that is well put together, with wide variety, and includes daily food and oyster specials. Every day they have great oyster specials and their soups and chowders are top notch. I have mainly come here for their steaks which I believe are the best in the area, but their sandwiches, appetizers and salads have all been fantastic. The steaks are nice size, juicy and tender, they come with a choice of sauces and I enjoyed their chimichurri. Sides are ala cart but, their homemade fries and mash potatoes were perfect additions. Leave room for dessert because this has some wonderful choices, try the ones with the locally made ice cream. Service is friendly and professional and this place is always crowded, I don’t how you get in here in the summer.

Hidden gem, at least for us! The wife wanted to come here for the burger, and we ended up loving everything. If you love manchego cheese like we do, that alone is a reason to stop. They make a cheese dip for the pretzel and the chips, and it is delicious. Dirty martini w bleu cheese stuffed olives and the oyster shooter were great as well. Can't wait to go back and try more things. Our new favorite American restaurant!

Ate here last summer and still thinking about my dinner… By far the best meal I’ve had in Manahawkin/LBI. Incredible flavor on the sauce. Got the Old Causeway Lobster Tails and my girlfriend got the Seafood Pot. Both meals were tremendous, but I was seriously blown away with my dish. Great spot right off the island, makes for an amazing date night, family dinner, or any occasion.

We've had service that had been 4 & 5 stars but not on this last visit. It seemed as though multitasking was a challenging task.

Lived here for a few years and never visited until now. Great food and super quick service. The wings are so far the best we've had in the area which is a great find!

OC Burger medium rare is top notch! Oysters are delicious. Of course the OC Ipa is the best.

Was disappointed, was expecting much better quality food than what I received. Can't say it was bad, but not up to quality I was expecting. Longhorn franchise has better steak.

Took my 91 year old mother here for lunch the other day. We never had a problem eating here before but this time 4 out of 8 of us got sick after going home. My mother ended up in the hospital because her stomach problems were severe. Food poisoning. Causeway you need to check the cleanliness of you kitchen or staff. NEEDLESS TO SAY NON OF US WILL BE BACK.

Reasonable good food but not the best. Not much of seafood selection. The restaurant next door mud city is superior but closed in winter.

We are in the midst of an insurance claim. No kitchen . We just wanted a good steak dinner at a local rated steakhouse. We went out of our way to order their absolut best cut of meat ..highest price. My wife and i both got meat that was overwhelmed by fat in every bite...TOO MUCH.. Marbled cuts of beef need to be selected to ensure the fat melts away, leaving tender beef in every bite...not hunks of fat 300.00 bucks and somehow we wish we went to a chain restaurants like Ruth Cris. Better steak, better atmospher better price.. What a let down.

Celebrating hubbies 82 years. (Thanks to the sweet lady who made our reservations) The food was marvelous. The service was exemplary. Our waitress was a doll. It was a great evening for our family.

After a couple seperate occasions I can confidently say I haven't had anything that I could say didn't taste amazing. especially the well priced $6 fish Taco. simple yet amazingly prepared and served. the steaks are out of this world and cooked to perfection. service has been on point and always there when needed. also the cheesy fritters are amazing. well every app is amazing actually. Definitely worth a long trip to try. definitely on the pricier side, but worth every penny. only one negative. parking is horrible. good luck finding a parking spot. worth the walk to get into the building though!

I recently had dinner at the Old Causeway Stake and Oyster House. The place was fairly crowded with a bar like atmosphere and karaoke happening in the front room. The menu has an extensive selection of seafood, steaks and burgers. Service was good. My father had the Ruben and I had the steakhouse burger. Both were the cheapest thing on the menu at 18$. It seems to just be a really expensive place for the atmosphere. The burger was okay. It was a bit large and hard to eat with the avocado, egg, bacon and the texas toast. The sauce was abundant and the burger was salted as well. I wasn't able to eat the entire thing in one sitting and it didn't reheat particularly well. The coleslaw was just cabbage and vinegar.

I love this place and come often. My only grip is the girls who run the hostess desk. They are always miserable. Gave us a hard time because they could not see my father sitting on the bench who cannot stand long. Also stop running the extension cords under the mat by the front door for the band and open up a walkway so handicapped people can use the ramp. The band and tables had no clear walkway. The few times we've sat at the bar or gotten drinks while waiting the bartenders are not the most pleasant people. You should make a area where you can just order drinks and not reach between people sitting.

I love the food here! Been here many times and have always enjoyed everything I have ordered. From Oysters, Steaks, and lobster to burgers and bar food. The lobster poutine fries are not to be missed. Spectacular.

Do not choose this restaurant if you are celebrating a birthday. We were not allowed to bring in 2 small balloons, and were told it was a $4pp charge to have our own cake. The birthday girl wanted to order something off the menu and several people in our group were ordering coffee, so they would have still made money, despite us bringing a cake. $4pp is a bit much, especially with 11 people in our party. Food is always good, however very pricey for a bar and grill type atmosphere.

Old Causeway Happy Hour is unbeatable! Awesome wings, awesome oysters, great fries, yummy mussels, succulent sautéed asparagus, excellent brussel sprouts, cold beers, unique calamari, and barkeeps Samantha and Brownie are the absolue best! Love this place! And Derick! But shhhh. Don't tell anyone. Let's keep it our little secret. Ok? Shhhhhhh......

Food is decent. Atmosphere is great. I live on the island but if you live in beach haven west there is a drunk bus that will bring you directly to your front door after a night out.

I ordered prime rib medium-rare for my birthday. It was served to me well-done. This was a $50 steak and it was pretty much ruined for me. I didn't complain or even mention it, (I don't return food, ever) so the old causeway didn't have a chance to correct it, but I'm certain they would have made it right. However, I had a sad birthday and just wanted a nice steak and cold beer. Our waitress was great, the beer was cold, and everyone else's meal looked perfect (my wife's fillet mignon was perfect) but I was unimpressed.

Everything was fantastic, I especially enjoyed the music by P-Funk North. The Door Man Wayne was very helpful.

Phenomenal restaurant, phenomenal, seafood, and phenomenal staffing. Definitely a must if you’re in the area or even if you’re not because I wasn’t.

Consistently good food, but the bar tenders are absolutely the worst. Empty drinks around the bar while they spend their time standing around talking amongst themselves. This has been our experience the last several times we've gone. They either need to be re-trained on customer service or replaced with people with a clue.

I am from the midwest and was recommended this place by a kind toll worker. I was impressed right away! I walked in and everyone was kind and friendly... employees and patrons alike. Everyone who worked here seemed to really enjoy working with one another, which can be rare to witness, but it made me smile! I sat at the bar both times and was helped right away. The atmosphere has an old world feel, but clean. There is a large cosmonaut suit on display and the bar has four televisions for your sport viewing. It also has seating for families and groups larger than 3+ to dine. The food was great! I came two different times on my trip... The first time I ordered the fried olives and something with as much seafood in one sitting as one could get... afterall, I am right off the coast and seafood is a natural resource here. The Seafood Pot (images below)is what I decided on. Both were delicious & filling! The second time I ordered, I saw someone else eating... Corned Beef Reuben with Parmesan Shoestring Fries & ordered that! I was not disappointed... So good! The bread was a little on the crispy side, but it was not a deal breaker. I recommend eating here!

If you ever are in need of a great dinner, not just good food, but a great dining experience, this is the place. We frequent this place regularly and have always experienced great food and great service.

Wow the seafood was outrageous!

Very popular spot, long wait times and bustling bar. Food was pretty good, I just ordered something that was tasty but way too rich for me. (Shrimp and grits had lots of cream sauce). Oysters were fresh tasty and served quickly. Service was plucky, friendly, yet professional.

The food was good but I thought it was ridiculous to be told we would be charged nearly $35-$40 just for them to keep a birthday cake in their fridge and bring it out to us for a party of 8 people, especially since nearly all of us also ordered multiple appetizers before our meals, alcoholic drinks, and many coffees to drink WITH the cake. It's not like we didn't already have a huge bill or were taking advantage of the table. Seemed like we were being nickeled and dimed and not appreciated-- which isn't a great feeling and probably enough for us to not return.

Love this place. Tasty seafood, friendly wait staff, nice cozy atmosphere, and just off the island (LBI). Highly recommend you try Old Causeway for dinner and drinks if you're staying at LBI because it beats most restaurants on the island and is the only thing I'll come back over the bridge for while staying at LBI.

Been going there for years, never disappoints! Sitting at the bar, dining, live entertainment… always wonderful. Sometimes a long-ish wait, but that’s to be expected when there are only 2 restaurants around. Always worth the wait though! Best wings I’ve ever had too! I dream about them lol

Have not been here in awhile and with that being said, the food never disappoints. The seafood is great quality along with the amount you get for most of the food items.

Have lunch/dinner with brothers when visiting out east. Food great oysters always fresh and service top notch. Love going here have never been disappointed.

I still enjoy it. Great place. Great oysters. A bit pricey. Also, the acoustics aren't great, but overall a better than worthwhile experience.

And old favorite for sure. Usually in season you have to fight for a happy hour spot but local summer has come through again and the place is peaceful to enjoy the first eagles game of the season. The food is exceptional and the service is fast and efficient. Always a delicious spot.

Very disappointed in all aspects of this restaurant. Service, food were sub par. My sister and I were here on Thursday night, and were seated in the bar. When our server came over I might as well have been invisible as was barely acknowledged and that attitude continued during the whole time we were there. She barely looked at me when she took my order. Not sure what her problem was but common courtesy and good service to ALL parties is really important! Even my sis noticed and we were both shaking our heads! And the food...just ok. Sis got the reuben and the corned beef was very stringy. The tri tip steak sandwich was on the tough side and the French fries which accompanied both meals were cold and were like potato sticks. We told our server and she did get another order and...guess what...they were just as cold and hard as well! The only positives about our visit were the cocktails we had. Otherwise a complete disappointment! Will not return.

Food was excellent, service was quick & friendly but the bus girl Diann was an unbelievable worker. She hustled to keep our table and many others clean and free of clutter. She is a Diamond in Mud City !

Yes, this place is crazy busy, but friendly wait staff and good food make it worth the wait. Our mixed drinks were ok, but could have been better. The Petite filay was very tasty, but a tad under cooked for med. Finally, the oysters were fresh and the crab cakes simply rocked! Yum!

Walked into an empty host stand, once sat, no one showed up to the table (middle of dining room) we gave it a solid 10 minutes before we decided to leave. Two adults and one child they did not offer a kids menu for brunch.

I only stopped on to pick up my food today, i ordered the sausage and peppers grinder for 17$ what a disgrace this meal was, charred, one pepper, one sausage, stale bread. Hostess was nice at least.

Enjoyed our night out at this restaurant while vacationing in town. This is a favorite of our family's. We were a group My nephew loves steak and enjoyed the filet mignon. My niece and I got lobster tails which were good. The macaroni and cheese was yummy. I got calamari for appetizer which was also good. Service was fast, efficient and friendly. The only issue we had was that the steak orders got mixed up. My sister ordered a medium cooked steak and my nephew ordered medium rare and they came mixed up. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. It has a feel of an old shack. Enjoyed our visit.

Now it was busy we got the ribeye and the fried oyster burger and the days special appetizers which was a crab salad on toast. We also ordered lemonade. Now the crab salad was on one giant piece of toast which made near impossible to eat without making a mess. Ok so be it, but very hard to eat alone nevermind share. We ordered lemonade and had to ask for it twice before we got it. The ribeye was ok I asked for rare it came out medium rare. And we were never asked if we wanted sides so i had a steak. My date asked for cheese on the burger there was none. Now for over 100$ plus a 20% gratuity you can't opt out of and for what we ordered. I'm not feeling it sorry

Every time we cone to New Jersey we go to the Old Causeway for a meal, and this latest visit was excellent. Meal was very good and our waitress (Amanda) was brilliant and very helpful. Will be going back again before we go back to England.

Couldn't believe how fast the kitchen got food for 9 peiple out to us...so quick. Food was great 👍🏻 It was so loud, seems like that's the culture now on vacation...everyone has to be loudest one in the room

From the moment we walked in there was a really good vibe. We were told it would be a 1.5 hour wait, but when 2 seats opened up at the bar we took them and it was the best decision we could have made. Our bartenders were Becky and Zach, two of the nicest people I've ever met. They made our first time at The Old Causeway a 5 star experience! All of the other patrons around us were so friendly and fun...all of our food and drinks were delicious... Highly recommend the fire roasted oysters and crab toast appetizers as well at the Karate Chop pork chop and crab cake entrees... awesome night!

DO NOT EAT HERE! I spent 100.23 on 4 crab cakes full of bread and no crab meat. Went back to get them fixed and they gave me more bread cakes! Called back and the manager “Derek” amazingly left the premises with no manager on duty to speak with on a Saturday night. Weird?

Always outstanding. We have never had a bad meal or experience in this excellent restaurant. Maybe a bit noisy for some at certain times. But one heck of a meal and service every time. Jah lives !

Yesterday my husband and I did take out for the first time. His order was perfect, mine however; I have nooo idea what kind of stroke they had in the kitchen but I hope they are okay. I ordered a burger with fries. No fries in the box, no lettuce, missing pickle, burger was undercooked and lumpy, which is likely why half was hooked fine and the other half raw. I paid an extra dollar for blue cheese and got like idk 5 crumbles. It was pathetic. I’ll never do take out again cause it was one of the worst burgers of my life. It was so soggy and gross I got threw half before I threw it away. Very disappointed knowing how good the food can be.

Happy hour was great...took about 20-30 min to get a table though, but the place was hopping!

I can’t say too much for the cooked food as I ordered the seafood tower. I ate everything on the tower except the lobster, took that home and ate it a couple hours later. I ended up sick for the next day within a couple hours after eating it. Could be how they stored/handled it, could just be that I was the one unfortunate soul this happened to, not sure. Service gets a two because our server was no where to be found about 95% of the time and I say this with full understanding that they were busy and it was a Saturday at 430-5pm. The busgirl attended to us more than our actual server. Last, it’s a rowdy and loud place. The bar crowd pretty much leaks into the dining areas. The seating to the right when you walk in is “first come first serve”, since the wait was 2.5 hrs we grabbed one of these tables. Before we had even finished our meals a paper “reserved” sign was put on our table... despite the “first come first serve” arrangement. We then had multiple people come up to us at the table while eating asking if they could “have our table when we’re done”. Finally after paying, before my second butt cheek even lifted off the seat a group of people standing by the window jumped in to grab the table. While I understand some of this is not in control of the restaurant, it’s still rather unpleasant. Especially when you’re paying a good chunk of money.

Without a doubt, the best restaurant around! Was vacationing in LBI for a week and had the opportunity to try many good restaurants but this one was a completely different story. Each ingredient was quality! We had the brussel sprout, the clams, fried calamari and shared a number of different entrées including the steak sandwiches (this was the table favorite), ceviche, and two pasta dishes. We also tried the lobster roll but of all the dishes we tried this was the only one we didn’t love so much. Drinks were a 10, service was a 10 and the band they had was fantastic!!!

Go here often. I am so into the drinks and food I forget to take pics. Veal was exceptional.
