It was better now that the previous landlord has finished. We haven't been there in about 4 years due to the food quality and quantity provided by the previous landlord. Great service and lovely food. Martin, the assistant manager, is running a good team. Very helpful and enjoyable. The food was poor tonight and not enjoyable at all. Better quality food this time around and very good service. Enjoyed our evening and the food was very good. Food again was poor, this is not a nice place for food, very disappointed.

We were visiting Barry for the weekend and staying overnight with our dog. We had booked somewhere else for food in Barry but left quite promptly as didn't feel comfortable there. We googled and found this place instead. Such a difference. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good food, comfortable and dog friendly. Had treats for the dog and they even brought over a bowl of water for him. The waitress (sorry we didn't catch her name) on Easter Saturday was friendly and attentive even though she was so busy and who I assume was the manager was also great. Thanks for a lovely evening.

Always good food, good service and value for money

Waited quite a long time for our meal to be served when it came I was rather disappointed with it. Although it was whatI had ordered it didn’t look very well presented and was quite a small portion of chips as part of the meal. I did also think the place looked as though it needed a bit of a revamp and thought that the staff were although very pleasant were not appropriately dressed. I also think having dogs accompanying guests in a restaurant is a bit of a no, no.

Lovely pub. Staff are really friendly and attentive. Always ensuring they are busy, either serving behind the bar, clearing tables or doing a general tidy. Always available to make recommendations on food and drink availability. Chef Jamie cooked a lovely chicken burger, really satisfying and tasty. The bar tenders James, Nathan and Eloise were brilliant, great banter and readily available to assist. Fantastic team

Arrived for food at 14:30 as the website said the kitchen was open, only to be told that the kitchen was closed until 5pm

Great service, but more than that, as a celiac, the fact that there's a menu for allergies is huge. Very impressed.

I don't know what has happened here but its gone down hill. It used to be my favourite place to eat. I visited last week and myself and my granddaughter both ordered gammon, both came out cold. My daughter ordered leek and potato pie but instead they gave her chicken pie. My 2 year old great grandson ordered the under 5s chicken nuggets and vegetable sticks but he was served a spicy chicken burger, waffles and beans which he couldn't eat because of the spice. No Pepsi was available either. No refund nor apology offered. I feel that the staff cant cope with busy times and that's when they mess everything up. Not just myself who have said this but others have too. Unfortunately I won't be returning again unless this change.

We booked a table for 1p.m . Drinks were ordered and brought promptly We ordered our food and it was brought to our table at 2.20! One order was missing the side, another had mushy peas instead of the garden peas ordered. Food was mediocre though staff were pleasant. Shan't go there again

Front of house staff lovely and very helpful especially the assistant manager Martin. I ordered the tuna mayonnaise baked potato. The description sounded lovely, buttered potato, and the salad with brown rice and quinoa I was looking forward to.imagine m surprise when it arrived.. no butter, the tuna may have seen the mayonnaise n passing if at all. As for the salad I got defrosted wilted leaves that were decidedly unappetising and I believe dangerous to serve. No onion, no tomato no cucumber no red pepper no brown rice no quinoa no kale and no soya beans… also no dressing not that one have eaten the leaves anyway with the state of them. Poor show well below par for my local. Need to pick the game up… disappointed..

We visited with my sister and our cousin who is in her 80's, she wanted to get out as she lives on her own nearby and enjoys visiting the Cwm Talwg to socialise. We booked on the App with no problem and were accommodated at the time we wanted to arrive. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival and seated where my cousin wanted to sit. The manager, Martin was on his own at the bar initially but we were served very quickly despite him being busy with other customers. We ordered food from the menu which came out promptly and beautifully prepared, we all enjoyed our meals. The atmosphere in the pub was very festive with several large parties enjoying family celebrations. Everything was perfect, a lovely afternoon spent at the Cwm Talwg, Thank you Martin and your fabulous staff for going the extra mile! x

Cwm Talwg is renowned for good quality food and excellent drinks I thought I would give it a try. I am a disabled person, entrance was good, back door are a bit quick to close behind you but apart from that I had a good drink and food. Nothing was to much trouble, even cutting up my food as I got one hand. Top marks.

Really great service and I personally congratulated the guy whom I paid on leaving about the meal (s) they were excellent, thanks again !!

There was literally no atmosphere whatsoever.. food very overpriced and wasn't very enjoyable.. won't be returning.

The restaurant/pub is really well presented and the staff are very friendly, welcoming and attentive.   The meal itself was plentiful for the price, but unfortunately the meat let it down.  My wife and myself went for the steak night option, paying an extra £1 for the Sirloin and some sides we chose separate.  Both steaks were very fatty and so tough (mine especially), which was very disappointing.   I’m not one to complain and as the staff were so friendly we just wanted to be polite and said our thanks. I’m sure it’s the quality of the steaks you purchase from your supplier needs questioning.  Just one more point, the toilets were very clean, but extremely cold, I was warned by another guest, which was the case. Overall, it’s a lovely pub and I would like to go back, but probably wouldn’t choose a steak again.

We booked ahead but when we got there the table was not ready so we did have to wait on to different tables for 20 minutes before we could be seated. Saying that the staff were really good and informative. Once seated we were served very quickly. Food took around 45 minutes to come out but was fresh and my family enjoyed it. With the 30% off voucher it made it possible for us as a family of four to have the opportunity to go out for a rare meal while finances are tight.

It was a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and the food was great. Loved the sticky toffee pudding, it came with loads of custard.

Nicr place with a good vibe. Really clean. Fantastic, attentive service. The guy who greeted us, took our otders and served our meals, could not have been more pleasant or efficient. He’s a credit to the establishment. Food was good. I had a really great salad and partner had the gammon. Highly recommend.

I come here on a regular basis and the food gets better and better each time, massive shoutout to the chef Josh the food has been exceptional lately so massive well done. All the staff are amazing special shout-out to Cat who was very welcoming made sure our visit was special. As always Martin was a star very chatty and makes you want to come back every week. Will 100000% be returning.

We visited the talwg Friday night(Nov 17th) for a pre Christmas family get together before things go mental for Christmas. As always we were greeted by Martin who escorted us to our table and took our drinks order. We made a food order to take advantage of the vouchers . As always the food was lovely (we wouldn't expect anything less with Tom being the chef for the night) we always love our visits to the pub the staff are always smiling and happy, (zara and James definitely didn't let the side down with their friendly customer service. Great night all round

The food is delicious! Loved the steak and ale pie and the cheesecake was some of the best I have had!

Pre booked a table for a Friday evening. Arrived early so we were able to have a drink before dinner, which was accommodated, as the pub was really busy, Drinks were very expensive for a pub in Barry, £11 for a pint of Guinness and a pint of Lager. When we were ready to order, there was no steak left. We ordered a mixed grill and the curry. We had to chase up with the server as the food took some time to be served. The mixed grill was awful, poor product and not well presented at all, most of it was left. The curry was mediocre at best, not very tasty at all, pretty bland. Very disappointing and would not return.

Normally very good but this visit wasn't good. It was very busy which is good for budiness but the food quality was lacking. Chip fat needed changing. Soggy onion rings, uncooked bland tomatoes. And mushrooms were tinned. Steak looked thin and chewy, a sirloin should be thicker and tender.

Fabulous welcome from Joe and Liam front of house. From the moment I spoke to Joe to make booking nothing was a problem. Tom and Alex delighted us all with yummy food served well, simply pub grub ..but a little more Big thank you to Kat and Zara. Our delightfully helpful and friendly service staff. Highly Recommended . It was a fabulous evening for my mums birthday. We will be back. Also noted a coach of 52 people arrived and the staff were very helpful and impressed us all as they were a real team. Well done all thank you again

Food is always lovely. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Aways a good visit! The one thing I was a little disappointed with was that I asked if a bottle of wine and a little note could be left on the table for when we arrived as it was a Birthday celebration. This wasnt done and no message/call/email to say that it couldn't be done either. I think the request was just simply ignored. That was a shame.

We stayed a couple of nights in Barry. An evening meal at Cwm Talwg on our last day made a perfect end to the day. All the staff were brilliant both when we called in to book a table and when we had our meal. Thank you chefs Tom and Aidan for a fantastic meal and Kat, Bex, Zara and Liam for your friendly, helpful and attentive service. I had a burger which was very tasty with perfectly done fries. My wife had a veggie burger with chips which she said was all very good. Our deserts were also very good.

I made a booking online and although the mistake of not having a table at first the staff were quick to sort the issues! The staff who were helping were polite and amazing considering there was a 90th the other above but thank you to you guys for beginning my daughters 16th celebrations and making as special as you could !

Absolutely brilliant visit with family and young grandkids. Great menu - all food was well prepared , presented and served . A varied selection of drinks which were sampled by all. Fantastic visit to Cwm Talwg this evening, from the moment we entered till the moment we left the service was fantastic! All the staff were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble, great knowledge of the food and drinks menu too and table service (which seems to be very rare these days). The food and drinks were great, as well as reasonably well priced, and I would definitely recommend to friends and family. The overall atmosphere and experience was lovely, a family friendly pub that is quiet and great for all ages. We really enjoyed our meal here, and will certainly be visiting again! Booked this in advance for a wedding anniversary meal. Good parking and great staff. Had the mixed grill which was perfect. Wifes steak was also spot on. The only fault would be that towards the end of the meal everything seemed rushed, like they wanted to get rid of us.

Chips that you could actually crunch and weren't dripping in oil, very obvious that pride is taken in what is being cooked obviously using fresh oil and it being at the correct temperature!! I know as I come from a family of Chefs! Friendly, polite, attentive staff that are not over bearing or intrusive. A dog friendly pub with excellent clean facilities and a wonderful spacious atmosphere. When ever we are visiting my Dad in Rhoose, we will be back as we regard the Cwm Talwg as our new local. Saw this pub on a TripAdvisor search for places to eat in Barry, close to where we were staying. It was rated highly so I thought we'd give it a try for our evening meal. On our first night we visited Cwm Talwg my wife and I had an excellent meal. We chose the steak and my son chose a beefburger. The steak was cooked just right to our preferred tastes and my son said the burger was delicious. The front of house staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful. We enjoyed our meal so much we visited again the next night. We tried other dishes off the menu and all were well cooked and delicious. That night there was a quiz on in the bar so it was enjoyable to eat and take part in the quiz. I can recommend this pub for its warm front of house staff Kat, Bex and Serge and not forgetting the excellent chefs Liam and Josh.

Well done to manager Liam Mitchell and his team. Had issues on previous visit but service today was exemplary from Liam. Really enjoyed the food which was well presented and hot. We were also late for our booking but that was no trouble. Nice to see plenty of people drinking in a local as well. Atmosphere excellent - well worth a visit. Thank you Liam and team.

We came here as part of a group tour and the food was very generous is size and tasty. The sticky toffee pudding was very light in texture and delicious. The cider we had was very refreshing and easy to drink.

Came for a small dish and got talked into having the roast dinner. OH MY GOD! I have no regrets. Cooked to perfection by Alex with the portion sizes filling me up for the day. Pair that with EXCELLENT service from Becky with our admittedly awkward orders and payment split it made one of the best pub experiences I’ve ever had. Thank you so much and can’t wait to come back next week 😊

We went for my husband’s birthday. We usually go for celebrations as we know we will always be looked after and get good food. The staff are always so lovely and can’t do enough for you.

It's always my go to place. The staff (to name a few...Jamie, Alex, Kat, Bex, Ellis and Martin) were very friendly, helpful & professional, and the food and service was as faultless as always. If you want fantastic food and service with a lovely homely feel to it....then this is definitely the place for you. 5* ❤️

Joe was very helpful and a great host. He was clear with items unavailable so we could look at the menu and know what we wanted would be available. He kept the drinks topped up and noticed when we were coming to the bottom and needed a refill. Even though 2 big parties were in or due in we did not feel like we were not a priority. Thank you.
