Curry on the Curve in Newport

Expected high standards. Was in for a shock as I did not feel that the staff were attentive to even cared to ask us how our food was. I mean it’s good they didn’t because it was terrible.

We've had many deliveries from Curry on the Curve and loved the food so much, we decided to book onto a cooking course with them. If you're looking to create some healthy versions of your favourite curry dishes at home, this course is the one! Numbers are kept very small so you really have the chance to get involved, while gaining so much insight into how the dishes are created, detailed information about ingredients including tips on where to get them from and, of course, sitting down at the end to enjoy the dishes you helped to create. Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and the food was (as always) delicious! This place really is a gem and one of our faves - we look forward to eating there again soon and in the meantime, cooking their amazing recipes at home!

My husband and I have had takeaways from Curry on the Curve many times and they're always delicious, so I decided to book him a cookery class with Anil for his birthday. It was even better than we expected! Anil showed us how to make onion bhajis, paneer tikka, roti breads, a mixed vegetable curry and pilau rice. On top of that, he was also extremely informative about how and when to use different spices, how to find the best and freshest ingredients and how to make your own paneer from scratch. The whole experience was really relaxed, enjoyable and interesting, and incredibly good value for money. Anil and Smita even sent us the recipes afterwards, so we could make the dishes we'd made together at home! Curry on the Curve is such a gem in the Newport food community and the absolute best place in the city for healthy, vegetarian Indian food. We'll be back for more again and again.

Wow. An amazing evening of gastonimcal delight of popping taste buds as we watched and tasted the dishes as Anil prepared and provided step by step instructions across a three dish menu. Anil is such a knowledgeable expert in spices and imparted so much information to us. Not only a night of instruction, shared knowledge and very good banter but an experience we thouroughly enjoyed. Definitely recommend.

We had a cookery session with Anil last Sunday, and he was very knowledgeable and the food was delicious. He showed us how to make chicken curry, pilau rice, onion bhajiis, lentil dhal and naan bread, and he cooked it with less chilli for us we are not keen on very hot food, and showed us how to balance the spices. It was all very aromatic and tasty, and cooked without any additives, and had no grease, like alot of other Indian restaurants. They definitely live up to their healthy Indian food claims. We came away very full and with the knowledge to make our own, and Anil has sent us recipes so we didn't need to make any notes on the day. He explained about the reasons for the use of the ingredients and how to source better quality spices and also some recipes for traditional Indian health drinks. I would really recommend this session to anyone who has struggled with making authentic Indian food at home, or even experienced cooks who would like some tips on more healthy and more deliciously fresh recipe versions. Very inspirational and great value for money. We were there for three hours.

It was a really nice experience with staff and food. We had chicken tikka and papadom in starters. In mains we ordered Chicken tikka masala, Paneer methi masala, Mushroom masala, Samosa chaat, Dal Makhni and Garlic chilli naan. Dal Makhni and Samosa chaat were not that good. But other all turned up great. In all was a great Indian touch. Sorry I forgot to click photos.

Good food, but not the level of authenticity you would expect. Chicken tikka starter, paneer methi and mushroom bhaji were good. Samosa chaat and dal makhani were very bad. Samosa chaat did not have yogurt whereas dal makhani was quickly cooked with no texture. Service was decently quick so an average experience.

It was alright. Ordered biryani and couple of dishes like channa masala. The food was nice. No big complains except for the biryani was bit overcooked and mushed. But overall, it was good.

Came here last night for a sit down meal. Curry on the curve is beautiful inside and a very relaxed experience. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, and Anil was very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions The food was incredible. The paneer tikka and tardka dhal were full of flavour and so fresh. Brilliant variety for vegetarians. Will 100% be returning and taking part in one of the cookery sessions Thankyou :)

We had a cookery evening at Curry on the curve and it was an amazing and enlightening experience. Our host Anil was superb explaining all the spices and methods of cooking used at the restaurant and we got to make bhaji's, Nan Bread and I even got to put my bread in the Tandoor which was great fun. We then got to eat the food that had by cooked by us and for us by Anil and it was great. Time flew by and I would thoroughly recommend the food and the cookery course.

We use Curry On The Curve on many occasions, both eating in and order out. This is one of the best curry houses I've ever used. I've seen a couple of reviews on this site saying that the taste was bland and can say that in my experience, this is nothing like the case. We've not had one bad meal, they have always been excellent. Hoping to attend a cookery session this year to learn how they create such a good meal.

After having to reschedule this 3 times due to covid it was definitely worth the wait. Anil was more than welcoming and accomodating from the moment we walked through the door. He showed great knowledge and expertise during the cooking lesson whilst making it entertaining and fun. The dishes we made were all delicious and even better we knew exactly what ingredients went into them. Will definitely be back soon for another meal.

We were a family of four and had excellent, freshly cooked food with great service. The chef could not have been more helpful and was fully prepared to accommodate everyone's likes. The food was all piping hot and served with fresh ingredients, unlike some "Indian" restaurants you could taste the herbs and spices used. I would not hesitate to go again.

Booked for 4 with good intentions based on previous reviews (was looking for curry house in the area). Not great, only people in there all night (Friday?!), so zero atmosphere - genuinely thought staff meant well but couldn’t make up for the overall poor experience - very bland and mediocre take on basic Indian dishes - I chose Vindaloo and it was pretty tame. Also found a very long hair in my food as soon as it arrived which didn’t exude confidence for what we were about to receive! Having problems balancing my experience with other reviews for this place - I would not go back - it seemed almost like a dispatch centre for JustEat at times - but without other diners just made for a cold and quite soulless experience. Must be better in the area - would do more research next time in Newport!

Wow wow wow What can I say? 4 hours of the most in detail curry cooking lesson I could of ever wished for 🙌🏻❤️ enjoyed every single second 🥘 We were talked through spices in so much detail, where to buy, how to use, when to put in the dishes & how to not over complicate your cooking. We made onion bahjee, a daahl, a spicy chicken curry, pilau rice & naan breads in the tandoor oven 🍽 Every single thing was made as healthy as possible and all of this, I can safely say was healthy 💪🏻 If you are local to Newport, please check out the restaurant for a meal or book yourself a cooking lesson (they are booked up till March 2022 though) Such a brilliant night and full of laughs 😂❤️ & a great curry at the end ❤️ Thank you Curry on the Curve 🍽🙌🏻🥘 xxx

Food was amazing as always. Not one complaint about the food or the service. In fact all attending were nothing but complimentary. Individual needs were catered for and everyone had a fantastic evening. My thanks to chef Anil and his team for helping to make our evening memorable once again.

First time visit to Newport as a stopover for the rugby in Cardiff. No issues finding a table and whilst the area is a little rundown don't let that put you off. Everything was great..food...service...vfm etc. I had spicy lamb biryani and my partner had lamb bhunha and both dishes were exquisite. Rice, chips, naan all very good...huge portions....this place is a must.

My wife and I booked the cookery lesson that they hold and I can not praise the restaurant enough. The evening was fantastic with great information on the spices and ingredients used and how best to prepare the food, which was then served to us and tasted stunning, best ever. I strongly recommend you book one of these sessions as I am sure you will not be disappointed. The owners also give meals to the homeless each week which is highly commendable.

The best Indian I have ever had!! So fresh and so quick! Amazing service from Anil and Jemima, we felt so welcomed they really made an effort to make sure everything was perfect which it really was! I had visited this restaurant during August Bank holidays 2021. Ordered Paneer tikka Ajwain, Veg Biryani,Paneer Methi,Baingan Barta, Naan etc. Also order Jeera rice, Tadka dal for Kid Chef came to our table to check special requirement, when we asked to make 0 spicy for kid and Indian spicy for us, he cross checked 2-3 times our dietary requirement etc and made food to our taste. Went thanks to TA and really enjoyed, staff friendly but the food makes it stand out, everything was so fresh and could tell great effort was put into each dish. I would recommend a visit and look forward to returning. It’s nice to try something slightly different and if your vegetarian or vegan you will not be disappointed.

Had a lovely meal last week - all the dishes were freshly prepared and full of flavour. My wife has pre-ordered the chicken thali and was delighted with it. I ordered Fish Amritsari to start which was perfectly cooked and chicken Chicken Chettinad for main. It had plenty of heat but combined with lots of flavour too. The garlic mushroom rice was also delicious. We ate here a few years ago but it's had a make over and now the decor and ambience is warm and inviting - we'll be back!

This was my 1st meal from Curry on The Curve.It was fantastic and I was absolutely spoilt for choice; so many lovely vegetarian and vegan options.Great value for money and the staff were lovely. Its a 20 minute drive from my house and I pass quite a few restaurants to get to this one and I'll happily do it again. It won't be my last meal from this lovely restaurant.

We visited the restaurant on Friday evening. Everything inside the restaurant is immaculately clean and full covid regulations are clearly in place. I am “that” person who only ever eats a Korma from any Indian restaurant but I was advised on another dish that was not too hot but very tasty. I was not disappointed! The food is all cooked fresh so you can even ask for less or more spices. The food is indescribably tasty you really need to try it for yourself. My partner loves Indian food and has said he was so impressed he doubts he will order from anywhere else in the future. Looking forward to returning very soon x

Food here is great I do recommend, staff & owner are friendly & helpful with a high level of customer service and I believe is one of the best for an Indian takeaway. Food is also good quality with a good delivery service. You can order via their website, Telephone or Just Eat

I'm not quite sure how to categorise this, or even if I should. It certainly is quite different from a run-of-the-mill UK Indian restaurant - but I have travelled in India half a dozen times, and it did not feel quite like the food there, either. It felt quite a lot healthier than most UK Indian restaurants. The dishes I ordered were less spicy than expected, rather more subtle - maybe even a little bland. I had ordered a takeaway though, and the main dish was wrong - saag paneer was sent instead of matar paneer. So, pleasant, but I am not totally convinced yet.

Another beautiful meal delivered to us promptly tonight. We have never been disappointed and will continue to order from and hopefully visit soon. The cookery course is also highly recommended. Thank you Anil and team.

I also made bread but was too timid to put it into the Tandoori oven myself so Anil did it for me! All the way through Anil explained everything, it was really interesting to hear about the journey the spices go on before they get to the shelf in the shop, great to hear about all the dishes and what different spices are for and how they are used, all the different dishes and so much more! And after all that we got to sit down and eat a super delicious and healthy meal! As always Curry On The Curve continues to impress me - 100% the best Indian restaurant I’ve been to! Superb service, freshly prepared and tasty, AUTHENTIC Indian cuisine. The best curry I have ever eaten outside of Goa.

Great tasting good, at a good price and plenty of it too. Not as oily or greasy as Indian food can sometimes be.

We went to Curry on the Curve on Wednesday to celebrate my husband's birthday. We weren't disappointed.The starters of onion bhaji and samosas were outstanding, the different flavoured dips with our poppadoms were delicious. The railway lamb curry was so nice and not too hot. Generous portions therefore, no room for desert. Finally, the service was fabulous, a very polite young man, not too intrusive but enough to give you an opportunity to say if you needed anything.Will definitely be going back again.PS great layout of the restaurant to avoid contact with other diners and the sanitation station was excellent

Visited Curry on the Curve after a long time away (curse you, Covid) and was not disappointed. Service was friendly and professional and "covid secure". Food was delicious and not at all stodgy. Excellent range of options for vegetarians and vegans, the baingan bharta being a particular favourite. The Roar beer was tasty too. Overall a very good experience and lovely to return to this restaurant after an all too long hiatus.

I looked after my grandson tonight for my son and daughter in law to go out for curry date night . They brought me home a tikka masala and rice from curry on the curve have to say it's the best curry I've had in a very long time would definetly recommend you give it a try you won't be disappointed amazing flavours huge portion definetly be having another and another .

Just had my first takeaway curry since having to go dairy free (baby allergic and reacts through breastmilk) and it was absolutely stunning! Really impressed with the choice of vegan dishes on the website and the allergen information available for all dishes. The quality and flavours of the food were amazing, not like your normal takeaway curry. My husband said it was the best he's ever had!Good portion sizes too so looking forward to my leftovers tomorrow and will definitely be ordering again in the future.

Best food I have had in i dont know how long! The staff are absolutely lovely!! The tables are separated to comply with social distancing and the food was absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! i would 100% recommend to anyone and we are definitely going back!! The onion bhaji's are THE BEST I have ever tasted in my whole life and I have left feeling extremely happy and satisfied!! I honestly cannot wait to go back!!

Quite simply the BEST Indian food I’ve ever had....the staff are all so friendly and so welcoming, the decor is so warm and inviting and the food.....best....curry.....EVER.Not to mention the onion bhajis....I highly recommend that you visit/order takeout. Order online today using the Facebook order button on their page. This was really easy to use. Food arrived on time and was piping hot. It was the first time ordering takeaway from here as I have always eaten in previously. Other than missing the amazing atmosphere that eating in always provides me, the experience was no different. Food was stunning and can and never have been able to find fault. Been waiting over 6 months for this and it definitely met with my expectations. Thank you.

So glad to see Curry on The Curve open again. Called in to pick up a takeaway (just to see the new decor), what a cracking job they've done, liking the new layout as well. For a change I tried the Vindaloo, absolutely superb and such a pleasure to see it not swimming in oil as is so often the case at other restaurants. Beautiful looking dish and lovely fresh flavours. We are planning on trying their cookery workshops very soon.

Just had the most amazing take away from Curry on the Curve. We opted to share a vegetarian Jalfrezi with a garlic rice. A mushroom bhagi side dish and a wholemeal roti for me. Everything cooked to perfection as always and delivered within 30mins. Piping hot and fresh as it could possibly be. This place is so good that my wife is going on an Indian cookery course which the restaurant run tomorrow. Can’t wait for her to bring home some little known secrets from chef Anil’s recipe book. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.

Took my wife and kid to Curry on the curv, already having been there we knew how good the food was going to be. Didn’t disappoint. And the staff were lovely and very welcoming. My 5 year old was very well looked after as were we. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Had an amazing vegan set menu for Valentine’s Day. The food was fabulous and tasted amazing, so much choice and the staff couldn’t do enough for you. Totally recommended and a new firm favourite.

I made a large booking here recently and the staff were very friendly and accommodating, and happy to arrange a set menu for us. The food is great, really fresh and plenty of it! Anil and the staff are brilliant, too.
