Best Fish and Chips we have had for ages. To say the haddock was fresh is an understatement. The service was excellent as well. Strongly recommended.

We go in most weeks and have always had a good meal. The OAP meals are good value for money and the chips are proper potato and not reconstituted! Staff are always charming too.

We stopped for a quick lunch here and received a warm welcome and good service as well as great food. Also very dog friendly in fact the dog got served first!!

This is our local fish and chip shop. In the past I have given it 5 stars because the quality of the fish has always been excellent. However, the last three times I have had fish and chips I have been really disappointed. I normally have large cod as it is cooked whilst you wait. The pieces have been really thin and not worth the money. More like a shoe sole than a large piece of cod. Not sure if it’s changed hands but it’s gone down hill rapidly in my estimation. I like to give restaurants a few try’s if I’m disappointed and I’ve done that here, so won’t be returning.

A real treat at our local chippy, Haddock and Chips What a treat, the fish was lovely and fresh with a crispy batter, the chips were excellent.. just how they should be, I also had mushy peas.. All freshly cooked to order and served by a waitress who was polite, welcoming and friendly. It's a small cafe' , just four or five tables, nothing fancy, just old fashioned service in an old fashioned setting. Better than any fast food outlet or fancy overpriced poncy restaurant,...

We were going to just get a takeaway after a long walk, but so glad we decided to eat in. Such a warm welcome and superb attentive service in a cosy dining area, complete with candles. A wine list too! The cod and chips were freshly cooked to perfection, served with a salad and tasty dressing (too rare in this county). Locally made Stokes sauces and - really important to me - ‘proper’ chip shop vinegar. A glass of Prosecco and this meal was elevated to one of those unexpected golden experiences.

I am an expat Brit living in Florida and visit the UK every year or so. I flew 3,000 mile to eat fantastic fish & chips and it was worth every mile. Friendly service, lovely battered cod and smashing chips! Hope to get a second portion before I fly home.

This is a very good chip shop fresh cooked to order always good quality never fails to impress. you can place an order by phone to speed things along but the wait isnt that bad l would highly recamend this chip shop

Just visited Cumberland Fish & chips and definitely the worst fish I’ve eaten. Fish wasn’t cooked great, soggy batter and tasteless fish. Gotta be better places nearby. (Only came here due to reviews)

The quality of food here is unmatched! Perfectly cooked every time! I’ve been eating here for 9 years and never had a bad meal. The owner and staff are great people.

I love this fish and chip shop. The food is always top notch, they serve rock which is quite rare to find nowadays and cooked in beef fat - as fish and chips should be. They serve a really good range of wine and beers and the staff could not be friendlier or more helpful. We recently parked outside the restaurant and parking attendants went over to our car to give us a ticket (don't you just love parking attendants) and the waitress offered up her parking spot to us!! How friendly is that. We have also been before and the regulars have got up, taken our food order and drinks while the waitress was out delivering an order. LOVE this place.

Ordered 2 large cod and chips - glad we didn’t order small as they would have been fish finger size. Large cod wasn’t very big. Most of the meal went in the bin anyway as it was poorly cooked and tasteless - worse fish & chips I’ve ever had.

This is a review of the take away. Very poor, if you rate this highly, you have never been to a decent fish and chips shop. Just go up the road to Aldeburgh if you want something too compare it with. Food is not notable at all, and take care if you have food allergies - they don’t know what they are talking about. Very dangerous!

We sat in to eat here as a family of 6 and really enjoyed our visit- we felt the fish was particularly good/high quality. The staff were welcoming too.

Had the pleasure of visiting this place yesterday and was hugely impressed. A very warm welcome from the staff and excellent service throughout our stay. The fish was perfectly cooked and fresh with a hearty salad and excellent chips all cooked to perfection. We also had the pleasure of meeting Keith the owner earlier in the day, a true gentleman. We have been to this fish and chips restaurant a few times now (we live 2 hours away) and every time the food is cracking. Saturday we visited again, treated ourselves to a cheeky glass of wine with our meal. So excited to see rock salmon on the menu and it was delicious. Very nice atmosphere, people sitting around just having drinks, very mellow. Definitely recommend a visit.

Just popped into The Cumberland Fish Bar on the way home from a road trip. Just ordered chips and mushy peas to eat by the riverside. Chips were perfect. Freshly cooked, not at all greasy and served in compostable/recyclable containers.

Best fish and chips in the area, hands down. They are friendly and welcoming. Don't like the cash only thing though - what is that about in 2021? But anyway it's worth the hassle.

I used to work at this restaurant and I found it quite a nice environment until I discovered a nest of cockroaches living in the boxes I was told an exterminator was being called but never saw it take place Wouldn’t suggest this for a quick meal as you may find a few unwanted items in your box

I placed my order for a small Cod and Chips ,with a Battered Sausage. The girl that served me did not speak every good English, I do not have very good hearing so was not able to hear what she was saying. However unfortunately the order was wrong and they have overcharged me by £4,20 I had to ask for my receipt, its was not until I had left the premises that I realised what they had done.Please be careful when or if you go into the shop and make sure you check your change.We will never go back. You don't expect to be robbed when you go out for fish and chip's.

Impressed...cod flaky with light batter and the chips crispy and yummy. Staff friendly and accommodating. They only accept cash which is a bit of a pain especially at the moment. You go in shop to order then wait outside before being called. Prices reasonable..would happily return.

This is quite possibly the best fish and chips I have ever had! Everyones always advises to visit Aldeburgh and have chips on the sea front but Cumberland chips beat it hands down. A short walk from the quayside and you can enjoy the serenity of the river while they're still warm. Chippy bliss!

Wow guys take a bow, seriously. Went to Aldeburgh first but the cue was crazy....zero distancing by the way. Anyway we were staying at the Ufford Golf Country Club and craved a Chippy. We didn’t know what to expect when we ordered large Haddock n Chips with 2 cans of fizzy. £18.20 I think. Anyway forget the price, £9 each with a drink. All I can say I wish I was local, you don’t know how lucky you are. Fantastically cooked fresh fish, light as anything batter and great chips. Can’t ever remember eating better!!!

This really is outstanding fish and chips. Always very fresh and full of flavour - great value for money and extemely friendly and helpful staff. I've not had better fish and chips anywhere - including the Fish and Chips in Aldeburgh - this is every bit as good. Well worth a visit.

Got a takeaway from here at lunchtime today, cooked to order and perfection, one of the most tastiest fish & chips we’ve had for a long time, adhered to social distancing and hygiene measures - well done! We will be back again.

Had fish and chips from this place for the first time. Generous portions of chips. Fish tender and succulent but batter not as crisp as it could be. Service was quick and so near to the apartment where we were staying.

The fish and chips here are not far off those at Aldeburgh far end chippy. The best around Woodbridge. Also nice to go in and eat in their restaurant next door. In there at least once or twice a week. You can phone in your order/

Monday late afternoon and visited the restaurant part of this chippy. Friendly lady serving, the cod and chips tasted freshly cooked and came with a side of dressed salad. Reasonable sized portion and very tasty. Reasonable price.

We popped into this small fish & chip restaurant at lunchtime and ate some of the best fish & chips we have had. It could not be faulted as the Haddock & Cod both tasted very crisp and fresh as well as piping hot, and the chips were of the proper chip shop kind. It is cooked in the take away next door then served in the adjoining small but smart and pleasant restaurant by a very friendly lady, who was genuinely really pleased when we said how much we had enjoyed our food. High recommended and we will return.

The batter was light and tasty but the haddock was not that fresh and over cooked. The chips were not that great really, far too soggy. A shame really as I’d read good things about it and they even cooked it fresh while we waited. We ate it on the quay overlooking the River Deben, which was the best thing about it.

Good old fish & chips at the end of the evening! Unfortunately there was no fish left, but the battered sausage was good and I can’t fault the chips! My friend had pie & chips.. there was no gravy available on this occasion but I too would have been ready to go home on a bank holiday if I was them!

The best fish 'n chips in the Woodbridge area, by a long way, and nice friendly service too. The fish is always fresh, moist and perfectly fried in light, crispy batter; the chips are also excellent being crisp on the outside and dry and floury in the middle. Nice to have the choice of sitting down or traditional takeaway as well. This is now my place of choice for fish 'n chips always, plus their opening hours are very convenient too. Good bottled beer for those that like to sit also a welcome addition. Faultless in my view and judging by the reviews 99.9% would agree.

We had just driven seventy miles in the snow to stay at the Crown in Woodbridge for the weekend. We parked up had hot coffee and then decided to brave the weather for a stroll out to find some lunch. Near and handy was the Cumberland fish bar a takeaway and fish restaurant, we looked at what was on show cooked in the takeaway, liked the look of it and although it was only around twelve there were already several tables of diners in the restaurant so we decided to join them. We sat at a bright window table the menus showed all the normal chip shop fare with fish in medium and large sizes served with chips or salad. I had a large plaice with half portion of chips and Diet Coke my wife had chicken strips with salad and a mug of tea. The order was taken by a very pleasant young lady who quickly returned with the drinks and a selection of condiments and sauces. The restaurant was warm the tea was hot and my Coke was cold all good so far. The food quickly followed my plaice was certainly large golden and well cooked the chips were crispy and well drained. My wife’s salad was crisp and fresh and the generous portion of chicken well cooked. The service was excellent and the food was as ordered. I like to eat the skin and bottom batter and here the fish which was beautifully fresh would have benefitted from being rested and drained a little longer as the bottom was tasty but a little greasy. Overall though an excellent meal for less than twenty pounds if you like fish and chips a place well worth a visit.

Called in while staying at a hotel locally , had plaice and chips , cod and chips, sausage and chips and a kids portion of fish goujons and chips, we all thoroughly enjoyed them , good size portions and freshly cooked , great service .

Nothing pretentious here. Straight forward fish and chip shop but their sausages in batter are just the ticket for a cold winters day. I have had their chips here before and they too hit the mark if you feel peckish. I would recommend this Fish and chip shop

This is the best fish and chip shop in the Woodbridge area, hands down. Nothing ground-breaking or particularly original about what they offer but the food is always fresh, tasty and served by friendly, helpful staff. That's all you want from a chippy really, right?

We always get our F&C; here. It is usually cooked to order and they are happy to grill fish and serve salad as an alternative. OAP meal is great value and a 'large chips' is plenty for two.

This is a great little fish and chip shop with an attached restaurant. The restaurant is decorated well and there is a licensed bar. The service was friendly and the food arrived scorching hot. I had the haddock and the quality of the fish was very good. We shared mushy peas and curry sauce and the portion sizes were generous. One of my kids had the cheesy chops as he wasn't too hungry but he got a plate big enough for two: we all pinched a few! A nice little place to visit, just off the main drag and great fish and chips.

We visited the chip shop based on previous recommendations, and were really disappointed. Lacked flavour, greasy and massively overpriced! £14.50 for 2 x fish and chips, 2 cans and 1 small peas, most of which ended up in the bin.

Would usually not review a fish and chip shop as people tend to have different ideas about what a good portion of fish and chips is like, but the meal I had here was absolutely delicious, chips perfectly cooked and the piece of cod I had was heavenly. The 3 staff working in the shop today were very kind and helpful, will definitely eat here again.

I have had friends tell me to go to Aldeburgh for fish and chips so I did... queued up for 70mins to be totally disappointed so went just around the corner to Cumberland fish bar and wow without a doubt the best fish and chips in Suffolk don't queue for hours because you are told simply just go here and enjoy.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming, the cod is 10× better than Aldeburgh or Felixstowe. Lovely restaurant to sit in, in bad weather

We bumped into old friend on a night out in Woodbridge. We popped in here for some scran to soak up the beers. It was bloomin excellent! Large, tasty piece of fish and friend had chicken nugget wrap which he said was great! Bill was really cheap too! Staff super friendly! Can't recommend highly enough!

As far as fish and chips go, this place is good for size of fish portions, taste and generally good quality. People serving are friendly and the pricing is quite reasonable. Definitely will return.

There are a number of restaurants in Woodbridge offering rather elevated cuisine, with prices to match, but if you have a less adventurous palate there are several excellent local pubs that will more than satisfy your hunger. However, on our last night in Woodbridge we thought we would sample the local Fish & Chip bar by eating in rather than taking the fish & chips out. There is seating for approximately 30 customers inside. We ordered one standard cod, one large cod, chips to share, one large glass of red wine (the place is even licensed!) followed by ice-cream x2. The meals were served by very pleasant staff within 5 minutes of ordering, lovely and hot and exceptionally tasty. The quality of the food was comparable to local pub food and with the evening meals totalling £34, this was considered excellent value for money, and nothing like a traditional “chippy” – a truly amazing place. Highly recommended.

We use the fish and chip takeaway on a regular basis and have also eaten in the restaurant on two or three occasions. It has proved to be a great addition to Woodbridge and the Town would now be lost without it. The staff are well versed in good customer service, interact properly with customers and always give a cheerful welcome. The owner is often on hand and similarly presents a warm welcome to all customers. All the fish is very well cooked and presented both in the restaurant and in the take away shop where good quality containers are wrapped properly in a traditional manner. Burgers and also fish can be griddled rather than deep fried if desired. Another plus is that the restaurant has a licence to sell alcohol and offers wines, spirits and beers at reasonable prices.

On the strength of the lovely smell radiating from this place at lunchtime we decided to walk there for an evening meal. On arrival, I noticed that the take-away chip shop side was empty, as was the small restaurant. The restaurant door was closed and it took a few seconds to work out whether it was open or not, but one of the guys that was sitting at a table outside said it was open so we went in and got seated. I thought the decor was nice and the knife and fork was in a paper pouch along with a paper napkin, which I thought was a nice touch. The waiter gave us a menu and after having got to grips with the pricing I opted for the Rock Eel and chips. I asked for some scraps as well. My wife ordered a battered sausage and chips and my daughter chose the burger with cheesy chips. Two Cola drinks and a cup of tea were also ordered. We were seated at a table next to the toilet door and although we were the only people in the restaurant the toilet seemed quite busy with people coming in from the tables outside to use it. By the look of the way the restaurant is set up, the people seated outside were actually patrons of the bar situated at the back of the restaurant.After a wait while the fish, burger and sausage was being cooked the food arrived. My Rock Eel didn't look particularly large in my opinion but what my wife and daughter had didn't look too bad. I was disappointed to find that my chips were only lukewarm instead of being hot how I like them and I got a salad on the side of the plate, which is something I have not seen before. I wondered whether the waiter didn't hear me properly because although I asked for scraps I didn't get any and I wonder whether he mis-heard me and gave me salad instead! The fish was well cooked and hot though so that redeemed things slightly! Two other things that spoilt my visit were the cup of tea which had a tea bag lurking in the cup. I would expect that in a transport cafe but not in a place as expensive as this, and my final whinge is that when it came to time to pay I got my debit card out and the waiter waved his hand in the air and said cards not accepted but there is a cashpoint over the road. Well, as far as I am concerned that was the final nail in the coffin and the Cumberland Fish bar will not be seeing me again!

We celebrated a special birthday with family and friends. We were looked after with great attention and care by Christina and her staff. The food was delicious - don't overlook the starters - and the service was friendly and attentive. Great wine list, but hard to go past the Efes to complement a great plate of fish! This place goes way beyond being just a great fish & chip shop. We will be back soon!

Good central location. It was a nice day so we walked down to the river to eat but they do have a restaurant attached. The food was good. Chips cooked well and the batter amazing with a lovely piece of fish. Only complaint was how expensive it was. But very nice on the whole.

Called into this little fish restaurant. WOW fish cooked to order, crispy batter, crispy chips with soft insides, and unusually in this day and age - fish cooked with the skin on - helped keep the flavour. Cooked to perfection - fish moist and white - OMG I could just sit down and eat some now!!! Definitely worth a visit. I was on holiday - from the North East coast where we pride ourselves on fresh fish and chips, but Cumberland was up there with the best, iovely friendly staff as well. Owners should be proud of them.

Popped in looking for a late snack (4ish), when not all of us wanted fish and chips!Anthony was very helpful and served 3 of us a big bowl of freshly prepared salad with bowls of houmous and a giant portion of chips - when we asked for pitta bread to accompany it, he popped into the kebab shop next door in order to oblige! One of our party had the Plaice and Chips which he said was excellent, the fish so white and obviously fresh from the sea, thoroughly enjoyable. It was great value for money and we all wished this was closer to home!! Definitely recommend especially as Anthony makes a proper cuppa tea!!All round a great place and will revisit when back in the area.
