We had a late lunch here and loved it. Would highly recommend the spicy sweet potato soup .. it’s so delicious and the homemade bread is perfect with it.

Dirty cutlery and teacups, service very slow and not particularly friendly. Food was nice but prices have gone up compared to the website so not worth it considering the small portion sizes

A cardiff institution! If you're hungry and you're looking for healthy vegetarian food crumbs has your back. The famous salad bowls are delightful but there's so much more on offer. If you decide to check it out, the fact that there's always a queue is a sign of how well loved this place is.

Undercooked food and grumpy staff

I had a fantastic lunch here. Highly recommend the salad bowl. Really generous portions at a very reasonable price.

I'm a pure carnivore. My partner introduced me to this place 4 tears ago. And, now I love coming here for odd salad now and again.

Delicious cheese, potato and tomato pie. Hard to find this kind of homemade food in a city centre these days, especially vegetarian. Lots of seating available. Only downside was no hand soap in the toilet.

Really cute, cozy place to eat. The food is relatively cheap (under £10 for pie, a spoon of salad and a drink). Multiple vegetarian and vegan options. It’s quite small and quiet so great for getting away from the noise of the rest of the city, but it does mean it’s often difficult for people to walk past your table while you eat.

Ordered a veggie fry up. They were out of hash browns so I subbed for 🥑 which was microwaved, the mushrooms hot and oily but uncooked. Tomatoes on the fry up were also uncooked. Obviously Toms and shrums can be eaten raw but felt it was a bit rubbish for the start to our day out. Also hot avocado 🤢 toilet also quite minging.

It's gone downhill since owner changed

Had breakfast and coffee this morning in Crumbs and can honestly say it was the best poached eggs on toast I have ever eaten. Everything about the food was perfect and the coffee late was perfect too. The facilities were very clean and it was the first time I can say that I didn't need to close my eyes and still be able to find the toilet. You could have put me in the toilet blindfolded and I wouldn't have known I was in one. The toilets were spotless and fresh which is always important to me. The whole experience from the food and the facilities was perfect and to top off a really good experience the staff were helpful and smiling and always busy. I would highly recommend Crumbs if you are visiting Cardiff. I will definitely be trying some of their amazing food when I visit next. 10/10.

Our experience differed. The cafe at lunchtime seemed busy and chaotic. Customers were treated as a bit of impediment to the two servers. Chilli (at 12.30) was not yet ready. You could have a choice of up to x salads but as there were only x number if. salads to choose from it wasn’t exactly a choice. Food was very basic indeed.

Been to crumbs since the 80s. Always consistently good 👍. Their mixed salad never fails 😋.

Wow - what a gorgeous place! Loads of lovely vegan and vegetarian delights on the menu. Really lovely staff, nothing is too much trouble. I cannot believe I’ve never been in before. This is definitely now my favorite cafe in Cardiff. The salads and juices are just divine - simply wonderful x

Very friendly and welcoming place, small and cosy more room upstairs

Small-town, artisanal food neatly tucked away in the heart of a capital city. A very well-presented, vegetarian English breakfast and a pot of tea came to less than £12.

We went here for a light lunch, the chickpea and spinach pie was lovely with a salad. I had a very tasty sweet potato and coconut soup and wonderful bread. Would definitely return,all though a slightly limited menu. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed and the staff very helpful.

Went in on a Saturday morning. You can find a vegetarian breakfast in many cafes these days but it's a bit more difficult if you want a vegan one. Service was quick and professional and the food was good and reasonably priced. Portion size was about right for my liking (i.e. not a massive plate of unhealthy stodge) and the coffee was more than decent.

I haven't been to crumbs for about five years, as I don't go into town much. However the quality and taste of their mixed salad is, to be fair, legendary. I don't know for sure, but suspect that the mixed salad alone has made Crumbs a bit of an institution. It's great to know it hasn't changed since the last time I visited this cafe. Add peanuts and a dollop of their mayo based dressing for a filling bowl of goodness. The only downside I can think of is that their food hygeine rating is three stars, which is pretty shoddy.

Had the spinach and chickpea pie which was delicious and they sell my favourite flavour kombucha! Staff were friendly too.

The rice is to starchy, I'm aware some business wash they're rice to take the starch out. Maybe they could start doing that as a suggestion but the red cabbage was sub par and why is there just white cabbage as an option?

Unhygienic and terrible service. I had the questions for my order barked at me with no pleasantries. I asked for a slice of pie/quiche and a salad. I wasn't told the pie came with salad so consequently I didn't need to buy another salad. The salad didn't have any labels so I asked what they were. The woman serving was not happy about this. Then I had to ask if they had a salad dressing and she absolutely drowned it in dressing, so I was unable to eat the salad as the dressing was so powerful. The spoon handles for the salad were left in the actual salad itself, meaning anyone that had touched it, had then spread germs into the salad. Definitely not returning.

We had salad bowls with 6 toppings how ever I couldn’t have 1 of the toppings (rice) as it has nuts in it. I feel that it would be better and safer to remove the nuts and have them in a separate bowl as another topping. Also I wouldn’t say it’s wheelchair accessible.(space to move)

What fantastic, fresh food! Large salad bowl, homemade quiche. My son had jacket potato with vegetable curry. Really tasty, highly recommended!

Sandwich board on the high Street says vegan and vegetarian breakfast. Went in at 10am on a Saturday only to be told there's no vegan breakfast.

Standard of food really dropped - especially in the salad bar - and prices really gone up - been a customer for many years but just not worth it any more

Very rude owner who has no respect for his customers he needs to learn customer care can't answer the questions below because we were told to leave the cafe because I was supposed to have cheated the queue 😔 really I would not have done this im a 73 yr old lady i just moved in around a man because there was no room when coming in through door.

Myself and my sister both seniors are in total shock of how we were spoken to by the manager ,owner ?today ,anyone frequenting this establishment will know of the small area there is for queuing for food!all we did on this occasion was step around a customer to make more room at the door,to be then accused in front of the customers of cheating the queue which is something we have never done in our 73 yrs,he then went on to shake his head at said customer which I was not happy about and proceeded to tell him,we were then told to go eat elsewhere both verbally and with gestures!I don’t know what to say about this man bad manners is one thing but pure hostility is another,we would not want to go to this place to eat again and feel very sorry for the staff under this person.

Totally discussed in the way in which the owner of this Cafe spoke to us we are ladies in our seventy and in all my years on this planet i have never come across such a rude man he accused as of cheating the queue when all I done was to move around in front of a customer who was standing there to get out of the way of the door I never asked the girl to serve me before the customer I would never have done that but he was shaking his head and rolling his eyes at the customer at this point my sister did speak up he started flicking his hand and telling us to get out and go else were and this was in front of a full cafe needless to say we left and will never return agine a very rude man who shouldn't be in business if this is the way he is with customers.

Lovely fresh salads and delicious selection of additions

This is a lovely little place. Does good selection of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free breakfasts. Fresh juice good, coffee good. My American-style hash browns were a little anaemic, undercooked and under-loved, but I'm a hard diner to please, eggs were very well cooked though.

Worst customer service, owners or managers are rude, not attentive or friendly whatsoever. A pity because the food is ok, but I never felt welcome, it's like you are an annoyance and they are doing you a favour. Nothing against the employees (that seems to change constantly as I've never seen the same people twice)

Been going for years and thankfully doesn't mess with their signature salad bowls, a winner everytime.

Tucked away, in one of the cities famous arcades, this popular but intimate vegetarian/vegan cafe feels like an undiscovered gem. The menu offers plenty of mix and match choice, for the busy worker and leisurely tourist a like. Staff are friendly, service is quick and the food is good, freshly prepared and delicious. I will definitely visit again next time I'm in the city.

Music good....and the biscuits that came with the coffee...but other than that...the coffee was watery and undrinkable, the Mayonnaise was watery enough to pour and the avocado seemed also watery. Everything was watery! Such a shame as we looked forward to it and these things are easily fixable. Central veggie cafe should be great!

An excellent small cafe in the arcades. Good quality food from salads to jacket potatoes (veggie chilli or veggie curry). Friendly staff, reasonable prices, plenty of seating upstairs.

I first visited Crumbs in the 1970s when I started my first job in Cardiff. Take-away salads every day. After 34 years in London returned to Barry and was thrilled to find that they still make exactly the same delicious fresh salads and still serve in wooden bowls!! Everything about Crumbs is refreshing apart from , unfortunately, the welcome from the male manager/owner serving the food. A smile and a pleasant comment would make such a difference!!

Nice enough, salads were a bit generic

Customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The man behind the counter seemed to be in a bad mood with me for some reason. He was very rude almost throwing the card machine at me in contempt. If you’re having a bad day don’t take it out on your customers.

40 minute wait so far breakfast. We weren’t told there would be a wait and that information should be displayed so customers can make a choice. Unacceptable.

Really disappointed with breakfast today. First of all, told abruptly that there were no eggs florentine as there was no hollandaise sauce. No apology. Then, the vegan breakfast was so pathetically stingy that you get NO toast, and have to choose EITHER mushrooms OR beans. Yes, either/or. Not both. With a vegan breakfast!!! Two of the most important vegan components!!! So tight!! Oh, and the so-called hash browns are nothing of the sort. Just sliced, cooked potatoes with no flavour. No crispy hash browns. And no sauces offered. And it cost £6.45!!! Yet was very bland and cheap-tasting. #rip-off!!! It's a shame, as Crumbs used to be THE place for veggie food. However, the truth is, for half the price you get much better at Wetherspoons. And there are plenty of other veggie/vegan food outlets in the centre of Cardiff waiting in the wings, so will visit those from now on.

We spent 3 days in Cardiff and we went to this small cafe for 3 breakfast. It was so good we went for lunch one day. The service was excellent and the food also. The cafe was well used which shows how popular it is.

Very disappointing that they serve average smoothies in disposable plastic rather than a reusuable glass. Average food as well, porridge good but American hash browns didn't really resemble what you would expect.

The food is really good, there was a queue waiting when I ate there, service was fast and efficient, everything was great including location except the staff really need to cheer up a bit!

Had lunch here on a Saturday in town & was really looking forward to a salad bowl. Not sure if they were just low on supplies but the 6 salad bowls were very uninspiring - one was just grated cheese, another just grated carrot. 1 was coleslaw, another was just lettuce & tomato. Only 2 were a bit more exciting - a red cabbage dish & a rice salad with some peanuts in it. It honestly felt like a throwback to the 80s. No herbs or anything to add a bit of zing & freshness. The falafel I had on top was a bit dry. Nothing I felt I could complain about but there are so many amazing salads you can do i felt really disappointed.

Maybe lighten up a bit? The food is great, the location is fab - it’s one of Cardiff’s jewels. But the vibe from staff is bad. Apart from one fairly cheery girl, you all look like you’re there under sufferance! 😒

Wasted my time standing in the queue, service super slow and careless, got basically everything in my order wrong. Put dairy in my vegan salad, forgot to put syrup in my coffe. Had to waste even more time going back to take it all back.

Stumbled on crumbs whilst looking for something nicer than Wetherspoon cheap and cheerful breakfast. Being veggie we were excited that we had a good choice. The girl taking orders seemed to be so engrossed in that part of the job that she left customers hanging - no acknowledgement they were there, “I will be with you shortly “etc The coffee was one decaf and one filter. They were just shoved on the table and left on Tray. . Didn’t tell us which was which decaf so had to ask. We Both selected the vegan breakfast. It was £6.45 I think. It came as two sausages, some fried potatoes half a tomato and you could choose between mushrooms or beans. The plate was very small it wasn’t what I would call a hearty breakfast more if a light bite. No toast either. The meals with toast such as eggs did look slightly more appealing to be honest.

Was given a dirty glass and when I returned it to ask for a clean one, there was no apology. Just a grumpy exchange for a clean one, which I had already poured my drink into. No offer of a replacement drink. Lots of dirty tables not cleaned the whole time we were there. Very disappointed. Wouldn't return.

Had breakfast with my friends on Saturday morning….awesome!!! Can highly recommend the poached eggs and mushrooms on toast …. Coffee good too!!! Staff excellent…. Will be back !!!

I am vegan , been a couple times last 2 times they brought 2 vegetarian meals instead without any explanation so i talked to staff and the comments..,, so left

Grateful to have a decaf coffee with oat “milk”. Potato and cheese pie with herbs and tomato was gorgeous, I chose brown rice with cucumber and tomato pieces to accompany the pie. Hubby enjoyed his baked potato, cottage cheese and pineapple with salad. His milk...

There are gluten free options, but the toast is made of sliced ​​bread. The brownie is very tasty. Very cozy atmosphere.

Really healthy selection of salads and veggie options. I ordered the salad bowl and poached eggs on toast and tbh there was so much food I had to ask to turn the salad bowl into a take away which they did without any issues. 5 star!

The food was delicious- we had a lovely salad. The service was a bit perfunctory which was a shame.

Great variety of choice for veggie/vegan breakfast. (No meat served here). The salad bowls are healthy, generous and filling. Also serve hot breakfast with eggs. The fresh juice is served in a small jar, very tasty. Plenty of staff on duty (more than the massive Cosy Club round the corner!) - clearly well run 😊

We have been regular and loyal customers for several years. However we were very disappointed on our visit in Saturday 22nd May. We arrived at Crumbs at 11.25am hoping to order a ‘simple’ breakfast snack - after 5 minutes queuing we were told that breakfast had stopped at 11.30 (we were literally less than one minute after) only to be told we were too late (this was now 11.31am - the server said she would check with the kitchen to be told by the ‘owner’ NO! I fully understand there must be a cut off time but surly good business practice should prevail. We decided to leave and ate at an alternative eatery (Wally’s) which frankly in our opinion was superior to Crumbs also with much more receptive staff. Needless to say we shall not be returning to Crumbs again out of principal!

If you want an amazing vegetarian meal, then look no further. This place is really something. The place is split over 3 floors so if it looks full there may actually be room upstairs.

A lovely visit to crumbs this afternoon when I took a trip to Cardiff. Lovely tasty food, salad was lovely and my son really enjoyed his soup also. Staff were very nice and friendly made experience pleasurable.

Visited for a takeaway lunch for myself and husband to take to work. The man serving was very rude and abrupt. Order a large salad bowl and two pieces of quiche, it looked lovely. Got back to the office and started eating….. got half way...

Disappointing. I ordered poached egg and avo on toast. The egg was a bit “snotty” but the big issue was that avo which was ice cold (I assume it must have been frozen or in a fridge). It made it a very underwhelming experience. A real shame.

Visited Crumbs yesterday and began to feel ill about an hour later. I ate leek and potato soup with granary bread and then three bean chilli. This morning I have stomach cramps and diarrhoea.

Loved that the cafe was located at the side alley in the centre and had 3 floors with lovely seating. Staff were friendly and helpful explaining about the menu. 4 stars as they forgot some of our order till we mentioned it but quickly corrected it with apologies.
