Crown & Pepper in Bromley

Slightly unusual pub-cum-Asian restaurant that I’ve always been a bit weary of, but I enjoyed the authentic Indian curry I had, and the service was spot on.

Came with a group of friends. Ordered a selection of dishes for us all to share. Food was excellent. Would recommend for a casual night out - and the footy is on!

Been coming here for quite a long time and it’s probably my favourite pub in Bromley! Food is great, drinks are perfect, and the staff are amazing and friendly! Thought it was about time to write a review! Thanks again as always

Truly awesome service!! The chilli paneer was clearly bad so we returned it. Only to be told that the chef had certified fit for human consumption!. We didn't want to take a chance, but got billed for it anyway. Clearly as Indians we were not expected to know what paneer tastes like, having never encountered it in our life before. If the panner doesn't get you something else will !!. The food clearly tore through my decently strong immune system, resulting in a tummy upset the next day. Crown of Bromley 1 : Customer 0

The service from Bobby and baz was amazing such a good night, the atmosphere was radiant, definitely recommend.

Stopped in for an ad hoc lunch...a hybrid of a pub and Indian restaurant,basic inside,so don't expect luxury. Food most importantly was fantastic value,size and taste was amazing!! A down to earth Indian/ Chinese,no frill,says what it is on the tin! Would visit again

Another great family night out at the Crown. Always a warm welcome from the staff. It feels chaotic and lively but all our orders were taken and everything was spot on. It's hard to believe that the quality of the Indian and Chinese food is as good or better than a restaurant that specialises in just one cuisine. Any time one of us needed another drink the staff were keeping a close eye on us. The loos could be a bit cleaner but this is such a busy pub/restaurant that I can see it's hard to keep up. None the less some improvements would be good.

Superb food and very friendly staff. Don't expect starched tablecloths, expensive cutlery and uniformed waiters. But you'll get freshly prepared Indian food that is impossible to beat, and plenty of it too. Very reasonably priced. Probably the best Indian meal I ever had.

I ordered the most revolting Indian takeaway I have ever tried to eat. The korma was not creamy, but had more of a tikka consistency. And the vegetables in it looked as though they were from an Iceland multi mix frozen bag. The naan bread was also tough. The little I did manage to eat went straight through me & I spent the following day not sure which end it was going to come out of. A disgusting, overpriced meal that had I not spent an hour looking for somewhere open on a Sunday in Bromley once I arrived, & then the subsequent problems with my normally cast iron stomach, I would have delivered it back & demanded a refund.

This was my favourite Indo-Chinese in Bromley by far but the quality of food has nose dived the last few visits and the prices sky rocketed! Such a shame. The food is now just the usual overpriced slimey cheap Chinese rather than the home cooked authentic stuff previously. Won't be going back

A rare family get together as we live in Scotland so there were 11 of us including one small person. The menu is extensive so there was choice for everyone. The food was all served at the right time and was enjoyed by everyone. The atmosphere was relaxed but lively. The service was spot on - friendly and helpful. We will definitely be coming back.

A tricky place to find, however when you do get in there the food is fantastic. and, At a really reasonable price. This was the second time I have been there and certainly will not be the last. Authentic Chinese with the right spices and strength.

We live near-by and come here a couple of times a month. An extensive Indian / Chinese menu and the service is spot on. Our daughter (8) loves the chicken korma. Definitely recommend, particularly to families.

We had a party and asked Crown of Bromley to provide the catering. We picked a few starters and two main meals. We found the food to be excellent and well worth the money. Many of our guests commented on how great the food was and by the end of the night what we had left over was gratefully taken home by our guests. I often go to the crown to meet my friends and have something to eat. The food is really excellent. Chinese is my favourite but if you like indian the vindaloo is just as it should be. Well spicy. If your looking for somewhere to go and see the football and have a good time with your friends this is the place to go in Bromley. But have to say the staff are the best thing about this place. The guys behind the ramp are so on the ball and when you get to know them the banter is on. Well done to everyone there. Highly recommended.

El personal de aquí no pudo ser más servicial y hicieron que la fiesta de cumpleaños de mi hija fuera un gran éxito. La comida era deliciosa y el personal hizo todo lo posible para configurar y decorar la habitación y garantizar que los huéspedes estuvieran bien atendidos. The food here is delicious, especially considering it won't burn a hole in your wallet. The staff are very friendly and service is quite fast. The menu has a wide range of selections, I chose to eat Methi Chicken Curry, meanwhile my friends wanted the salt and pepper squid. They specialise in Indian and Chinese cuisine.

We came here to watch the football with some friends. Good atmosphere and food was really good and well priced! Recommend

First and foremost it is now the crown of Bromley, having visited today I am proud to say I walked out with a smile on my face and a very happy belly, one of the waiters were brilliant as well! It’s a shame I didn’t catch his name but he was just under average height and Chinese and was just a delight throughout my visit

Delicious Asian Fusion food, parking available, sport on tv screens, good service, pub area a bit rowdy but plenty of space at the other end for quieter dining.

Had a family meal at this very popular pub and surprised at the variety of meals available .we selected 4 different meals and everyone enjoyed the food and the service was first class . The manager checked if everything was ok which was a nice touch in a very busy environment. Could fault the food or drink.

Been midweek lunch previously and popped in again today and lovely food. Both times one of us had a Chinese dish and one an Indian dish and have to say impressed again. Service very good.

We are regular visitors to this pub, especially during World Cup. We all enjoy fantastic salt and pepper fish and chilli and garlic prawns. It has a huge menu and excellent food and deserts. Our favourite is pan ice cream and midnight mint.

Good menu with so much to chose from. The food is freshly prepared so not the quickest to come out of the kitchen but definitely worth the wait. Decent range of beers and wine.

I met a friend at Bromley south & we tried the pub due to its proximity but also the reviews. The restaurant area at the back was really quiet although the pub area at the front was busier. The staff were very helpful, friendly & attentive. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. If I lived locally I would visit regularly but unfortunately I don't. I'll certainly try to back in s future visit though.

This is my favourite Indian, as previous reviews say it’s a pub with tables in the back area. The restaurant is basic but that’s part of its charm. The food ( I’ve only ever had the Indian) is fantastic! It’s seems to be real home cooked and you can request how spicy you like it.

Absolutely brilliant and fantastic value for money x Called in after a long day at work for a drink and decided to dine, we were not disappointed. Chicken Korma and chips for myself and Special Chow Mein for the hubby. Both were swiftly served and delicious. Also large car park at the rear. Will definitely dine here again when in the area. This wonderful gem dishes up superb meals from both the Indian & Chinese cuisine and yes, you can even have a burger if you want too. It is also tremendously good value for money.

I recently visited this pub/ diner last weekend for a friends 30th birthday do. This pub is not your regular type, to my surprise the menu was filled with a variety of both Chinese and Indian dishes! Of course for a traditional pub to serve Asian cuisine is odd, but the food that we were served was incredible to say the least (Salt & Pepper Prawns are a must try!) and all within a decent price range too. Although i'm not particularly local I will definitely be returning with more friends and family in the future.

It was our first time in the pub/restaurant Crown & Pepper, and this place, that looks from the outside as another pub, really surprised us - it is actually a very spacious and good quality Indian-Chinese restaurant. We were served by a very warm, friendly and professional waiter (Ronnie) that upgraded our experience and made us feel at home, and we must say that only for the service we received from him, the restaurant deserves another star.

Let's not beat around the bush here, if you want restaurant style service, go to a Michelin star restaurant. It's a pub you're eating in, but as pub grub goes it's amazing. Not the best service in the world but then again they're barmen not fully trained waiters.

We have known this venue in its many different guises down the years but this was the first time we had tried it since it became the Crown & Pepper. A huge menu covering Indian, Chinese and Japanese cuisine (plus some traditional British dishes for the less adventurous) and the drinks prices are reasonable too (£3.75 for a pint of Amstel instead of the £4.50-£5 you can pay elsewhere). We chose some Indian dishes and asked for medium hot (you can opt for hot and very hot too if you prefer), which was plenty hot enough. We enjoyed the food so much we went back three days later for a Fathers Day dinner. If I was to have any criticism at all it would only be that some of the furniture is a bit jaded and mismatched. As if they bought a job lot of tables and chairs from different venues in an attempt to fill the large interior dining space. Other than that, can't fault the place.

The Chinese and Indian food here is brilliant. Very tasty and excellent value for money, especially if you go at lunch time (2 meals for £9). The best Singapore rice noodles I have ever had!

This is a great local. Was there last month for dinner and a drink with a friend. Great food for the price, had noodles but the Indian smelled so good I'll have to give it a try. Last night was just a drink and a catch up with a friend. Very comfortable. Love that this local has been transformed.

Visited on Easter Monday, and very nice it was too. Had the Chinese chicken and mushroom stir fry, Japanese Katsu curry, prawn won ton, dim sum.Everything arrived freshly cooked and piping hot. Lots of other families, with children, made to feel welcome, and I will definately eat there again.

I have just returned from the restaurant and felt I had to write about my experience.We were in a group of 19 and the first thing I noticed was that the venue was airy, bright and welcoming. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our orders were delivered within a reasonable time. All the food was hot and full of good quality spices. The meat was tender and well marinated and the veg starts were excellent. The Indian standard to judge a restaurant is Crispy bhajias and here they were truly crispy and with a lovely thin coating of flour. Overall it was worth crossing the river and not being disappointed. A plus to all the staff were helpful served with patience and clearly enjoyed their work.

I used to go to their Croydon branch but since I been to this place, I have not gone back to the other place. This is far better than Croydon branch when it comes to customer service, food and the location. Parking on site is added bonus.I find the staff very helpful, willing to help and listen. The chef came to our table to ensure we were happy with the food, which was a nice touch. My kids love the Chow Mein, lamb kebab, lamb chops and chicken tikka served here. For veg I would recommend Moggo, Szechwan Torfu for starters and Tarka Daal for main course.I would definitely recommend this place for the above reasons!

Terrible experience on new year's day. Ordered a vegetarian keema and was served lamb keema. The duty manager laughed the incident off and blamed it on '17 year old staff.' He refused to allow us to speak to his boss. Clearly no knowledge of customer service or how to run a restaurant. Avoid!

This is by far the best Indian and Chinese food you'll get in Bromley. Other restaurants just don't compare. It's always so authentic which is evident by the amount of Indian and Chinese people who dine there with their family and friends. The staff are always welcoming and attentive. This is a real gem in Bromley and is also helped by the reasonable prices of food and drink. Keep up the great work.

We recently visited the Crown and Pepper with family . What an amazing meal we opted for Chinese that evening and throughly enjoyed our meal Excellent quick efficient service exceptional value for money We unfortunately don't live in the area otherwise this would be a regular haunt of ours Well worth a visit

Visited with family to celebrate a birthday. we go quite often and the service is usually very good. However if this had been our first visit I would not be going back. The food came in drips and drabs, there was no order to how the starters and mains were delivered, service was terrible, for a table of 14 we had to ask for condiments, one of our party didn't receive her dinner until everyone else had finished. Really disappointed. The food however is delicious.

The food and service was decent but not up to the level of the Crown & Peppers in Croydon.The tables were not cleaned properly and the the staff were having a diffecult time getting the orders to the correct tables. Orders were not brought to the table together. The gravy items was brought to the table first and the rice or bread items were ready after 2-3 minutes.Food was good but service needs to be improved.

The food is fresh, of great quality and standard. Myself and a colleague have eaten in this friendly restaurant/pub for the last 12 months, every week, most weeks more than once! Never have we had a bad starter/meal......our favourite being the lovely prawn tempura with the light crispy batter - an absolute must! The price is extremely reasonable and of good value that keeps us coming back time and time again!

Terrible over priced food. Kebabs were rubbery and tempura prawns were a frozen food job.first and last time I would go here. For half the price there are much better places.

I have to admit this is my guilty pleasure. I have food in the fridge but can't resist eating or taking away from this pub/restaurant. Both Indian and Chinese cuisine never fails to impress me. Crispy chilli lamb is a must, as is most of the menu. Can't recommend enough!

I was really looking forward to an evening out with friends - good food and good company. Well one out of two (friends) isn't bad, I suppose!!!We were moved from the table I had initially booked to be seated elsewhere. We constantly had to fan off flies which was really irritating!!! Some of the drinks that had been ordered weren't available and the food came to us luke warm so had to be sent away to be reheated!!! Some of the meat on the meat platter was very dry - I felt so embarrassed, needless to say we did not pay any service charge, which is extortion as this is a pub and should not charge unless you are given proper restaurant service which you are definitely not. We got here quite early so good only knows what it must be like during peak time!!! My husband raves on about the Croydon branch which he admits is far better. I was so excited about having a decent Indian curry place reasonably priced in the area but I feel this place lacks in certain areas so maybe it needs to lower its prices and only request that you book if large party so as not to disappoint.

Ordered a take away along with the beer. Instead of parcel got the order in plate and another guy in the counter who didn't even knew what I have ordered advising that I should have told take way which I did. And if it was a take away I would have got the table number in the white card which wasn't the case. I knew this restaurant for few years right from Croydon. Was always good in Customer service. Probably the guys at the counter this evening could have joined recently. Bad evening!!!

Lovely staff, tasty food. Disappointed in my main (chicken dupiaza) as I found a piece of plastic in there. The staff who served the table could not be more apologetic and took money off the bill. I hope this is not a recurring issue for other customers.

My Wife and I had a meal in this pub on a Monday evening at about 6.00pm. It's not really a pub with an attached restaurant, or a gastropub, it's just a pub that does all day food. That said, the menu was really extensive, but specializing in Indian and Chinese food, which is a bit unusual for a pub. The food arrived very quickly after ordering, and seemed to be authentic Indian food, not the westernized bland stuff that is far too commonly found.Although it’s now called the Crown & Pepper, this was the Tigers Head up until recently and, as anybody familiar with the area will tell you, it had a very bad reputation. It was definitely rough, and was closed down for a while, then subsequently rebranded. Unfortunately nothing much has really changed. The bar area was populated with very loud men in their 50s who were foul-mouthed and intimidating. One of them ended up flat on his back on the floor shouting, while his compatriots stood around him jeering and swearing. It was quite daunting, and I'm glad we left when we did. Earlier, I witnessed a group of three people sitting down at a table and given menus by the waiter. Within a few minutes I heard one say ‘I think we will go next door’ and they left without ordering anything. I’m really not that surprised. Bizarrely, this pub seemed popular with both white ‘football hooligan’ type alpha males and quietly spoken & polite Asian families. Not sure what a social psychologist would make of that. I’ve done a bit, and I’m still baffled.The décor left a lot to be desired. Although the outside had been recently tarted up, the inside was really shabby. None of the furniture matched, and only some of the tables had tablecloths on them. My wife told me afterwards that the recently refurbished toilets were very nice and clean though. There were big TV screens dotted around all over the place, eating area and bar area alike. The cricket was on (Sky Sports) when we were there, but few people were watching. I imagine it could get seriously rowdy when the football is on though. The ‘no drugs’ sign on the wall opposite where I was sitting did nothing to make me feel comfortable and relaxed. I think it would help if the bar area was more segregated from the restaurant part, so that diners could eat their meals in peace.I can't recommend this pub/restaurant because of some of the ignorant and badly behaved people that use it. The food was good, nothing special but good nonetheless, and the staff were attentive and helpful. The ambiance of the place though was terrible, and we will not be returning any time soon. I’m surprised that the management haven’t tried to do something about it. If you want a better, less intimidating experience, try the Bricklayers Arms (almost) opposite. I would give this pub one star if it wasn't for the surprisingly large menu and good service, so I'll reluctantly give it two.
