Crown Buffet in Leeds

Came on a recommendation for dim sum, but found I came a little too late as it finished at 5pm. Ordered a good, ole faithful, 3 roasted meats over rice for £14.50. It was delicious, well-balanced flavours and the meats perfectly roasted, so that the tender and succulent meat on all three (duck, belly pork and char sui) were so tasty. The portion was generous and I couldn't finish it so I asked for a doggy bag. This is a mark of a good Chinese restaurant (also, filled with other Chinese locals) if they do the roasted meats right. Will be back for sure!

Attended today for lunch with my partner. Queuing on arrival so assumed this must be trusting. Most of the staff were extremely rude and Arrogant. The first plate of food was so unbearable that we debated leaving after. However, we decided to stay and give it another chance. Prawns were solid that a knife would not cut through it. Fist thoughts were we was having the night before a food. I won’t go on but I will say the trip to B&Q afterwards ended in throwing up in the toilets. We paid £40 for this.

22 pounds per adult, not out of the way.....if the food was of a good standard. However this was not, the wait for the food is ridiculously long, and most of it being bland and tasteless or cold, we recieved plates we did not order, plates that we did order did not come, two people in our party were vegetarians one waiting over half an hour for their first order of a veg soup, both of who ordered a vegetarian noodle dish, which during eating was unpleasantly surprised to find beef in their dishes, we mentioned this to the staff who rather than apologise for the mistake and try to rectify in some way, very ridley said are you sure that's not what you ordered? I would not recommend at all, was our first time going and at just short of 200 pound, myself only having cremated chips, a tastless chicken chow mein that I couldn't eat and to then be told, we are limited with deserts,...by this they mean they have 2 flavours of cheap ice cream. Also very noisey, dingy, light fixtures falling from roof etc. Has to be seen to be believed. Do not waste your money.

I have been using this chinese for at least 8 years and has always been spot on.I invited 2 friends to join me as i did nothing but bull this place up. It started at the check in desk with a member of staff not having a clue what i was trying to say.After about 10 mins i got it across that i had booked a table for 4pm. We was shown to a table and the table was laid up. The server took our food orders and drinks.The drinks came fast but the food was hit and miss.(20 mins to wait for a bowl of soup).We was getting side dishes 15 mins before our main that went with them which resulted in the sides cold. More food was ordered and that batch was cold.I called over the manager on duty who prodded the food to see if it was cold with her finger!!!. The bill came and there was no good will gesture for even a £1 off the bill. Most of the staff were new and not 1 of them had a smile between them. The time you get to eat as much as you want is two and a half hours.The service was so slow we were there three and a half hours.Lucky i didnt get charged extra or that would of been a different story.All in all i will never ever go the The Crown again ,what a joke.

I’ve been coming here for years and years I’m now 30 and I’ve been coming since I was around 6-7 with my parents. We booked a table last night for 9 of us for buffet. We came in at 6 and the place was really quiet after ordered drinks about 30/40 people came in and took up 3 massive tables right next to us. Well come back to that, so we ordered some starters shortly after there was nine of us so there was quite a few to order most came out but most didn’t and by time we ordered more food we still had to tell them they had forgotten some stuff all the other food came out after that but still not the starters and then had a other stuff missing from the second order. They brought the rice out after about 20 minutes we asked for fried rice what we got is boiled but was told it was fried but it definitely wasn’t. The food was bland missing items off every order then charged us £232 for 6 adults 3 kids which is ridiculously seen as only best part about it was the cake I took for my child’s birthday!! No deserts. They was more interested in serving the 30 odd people the best looking and smelling food in there because they was of the same culture as them. I will not be going back there..

I use to come to this buffet years ago and it was really good great choice on menu and friendly staff and deserts on offer big choice Decided to bring my partner for his birthday after not been in years I was really disappointed it was nothing like it use to be. Very dirty and rude staff. Menu was very limited and staff never smiled and was rude Food wasent good either it was so run down and unclean I was so embarrassed to have brought my partner here. I have been coming here for about a decade now with my friend. This time they had forgot to have a clean table but that's not what really affected me (see other people's reviewers for that). We decided to have a-la-carte instead of buffet but I got 5 dim sum things which amounted to quite a lot more than the all you can eat would be, so I tried to see if they would be generous and give an extra point on the loyalty card anyway which doesn't mention "buffet only" although one staff member thought it was buffet only so I took their word for it. I only usually come for my birthday so if this carried on and I got buffet it would be filled in 7 or 8 years (if the card is still recognisable by then). Instead of just saying "no", they tried to make a fuss about it and caused an argument, until the nice staff member repeated what she had said earlier and that they have a robotic attitude towards this, which I accepted. Also, I asked several times to have the bill separate but that was seemingly not in their "programming" too and I had to pay for my friend too. Which came to 50p short of 2 buffets worth. Then I was told they "like to squeeze every drop of blood out" so I agree with that from the way it went. Only way to protest would be to go somewhere else I guess. There were a lot less people there compared to last year so maybe something is up. Guess they'd better get in gear if they want to save it. But so many places are going bust these days anyway.

Restaurant is in desperate need of a good clean and update. It’s stayed the same since I was a little girl and that’s over 20 years ago! Cob webs and stains everywhere. Sticky floors. Toilets were absolutely filthy. I dread to think what the kitchen is like. Service and food has also gone massively downhill. The staff could do with Customer Service training, miserable and rude best describes them. As for the food; it’s bland, tasteless, small portions (5 chips doesn’t constitute as an adults side dish!) Would highly recommend people to NOT go. Disgrace of a place.

Crown used to be one of the best restaurants for all you can eat buffet in Leeds, we came tonight to celebrate mine and my partners birthday before heading into Leeds and was massively disappointed, when we 1st there we were asked by pretty much all staff members if we were ready to order when we had already already started to order. This wasn’t too much of an issue cos we felt like they were there ready to take our next order. This soon did a complete flip and as soon as we’d had our starters the delay in ordering our next lot of food was more than expected and it just went down hill from there. They brought the wrong food and then. Didn’t bring my food out after me sat there for 20mins already spending 40mins in the restaurant I still hadn’t received my food and the rest of the group had all eaten their mains, I tried to het a waiters attention to get an estimate on how long it would be but it seemed all the willing staff that had initially served us at the start had disappeared. When they eventually came to the table to clear the empty plates we asked again where my food was, to be told it had been delivered to the wrong table and they would get a new order out in.. the rest of the group ordered a few other bits that also didn’t arrive at this point an hour into our visit my food now arrived I sat and ate on my own a hand full of chips and a child’s portion of sweet and sour tofo (which I usnderstand the portions are smaller when at the all you can eat) I was fed up at this point and didn’t want to be in the restaurant any longer so the group asked for the food they had ordered after their main , to be cancelled as they still hadn’t received it. The waitress came back and told us that the kitchen didn’t have any further orders from us anyway(probably gave it to another table AGAIN) Our visit was a complete disaster, the group of people I was out with asked for the bill so we could leave and enjoy the rest of our night and asked if they could just pay for 3 all you can eat option and just charge for what I’d eaten separate. They went and asked a manager to be told this wasn’t possible and they would give us an extra stamp in their “loyalty” card which they tried to hand us. Iv come away hungry and frustrated and will likely never return again. It’s a big shame because as a kid I used to love this place and my family have been going for years 2 of the people in the group had experienced it for the 1st time and said it’s the worst place they have ever been. Poor service, poor food and very disappointing response from the manager.

Dirty, outdated restaurant, stroppy waitress, nothing tasted like classic Chinese dishes, some dishes tasted old.

I visited the lovely Crown Buffet. One orders meals individually but one can get as much as one can eat. I had jasmine tea, chicken and sweetcorn soup, pork curry, mixed vegetables and rice. It was all I could eat and was excellent.

Really enjoyed our visit on Sunday. Staff very attentive and direct with service. Coke was a bit flat but all good portions good for trying different dishes. We had Tofu,prawns, chicken and a selection of the soups which were all really good. Especially liked the chicken and sweetcorn soup and the salt and pepper tofu. The crispy shredded beef was ok. Priced at £21 per head it's fairly reasonable if you like to pick/try new things

Upon arrival, we struggled to find a parking space as the car park was a bit of a free for all. A member of staff did come out to advise where we could park though which was good - a shame we didn't realise he was a member of staff as there is no uniform or dress code for staff! We were sat in a bit of a dark and dingy corner - the wall was a bit damp and paint was peeling off the wall. Service was fast and polite, but the food was so-so. Not great but nothing to write home about. The whole experience would have been better if there was a bit more atmosphere and attempt to make the place a bit more presentable.

1)given buffet menu at the start with no explanation with how it works or the pricing 2) the atmosphere was severely lacking, tired old rags of a bedsheet used as table cloths with tearing seems, food all over the floors ugly dirty stickers all over the floors 3) 6 different waitresses came to the table to ask the same thing and there was zero communication between the staff as well as it being difficult to communicate with them due to language barrier 3) they completely lost our order 4) dirty plates, glasses and dirty everything, couldn’t drink our water because of how dirty the glasses were 5) the food was tasteless chewy and overall unpleasant. With an exception to the aromatic duck. Noodles tasted like cardboard 6) sweet and sour chicken balls were like gobstoppers , the dumplings tasted like burnt greggs sausage roll not what I expected from a Chinese restaurant. 6) tried to charge us extra by adding in additional charges Definitely not returning, stick to maccies, embarrassed that I brought my boyfriend here.

Absolutely fantastic, the food the staff are amazing and I’d recommend this eaterie to anyone, I look forward to coming back and eating here again

Over the last couple of years I have visited the Crown restaurant with guests around a dozen times. I have a table for four booked for next Monday. So why do I look forward to this treat? 'Treat' is the key word!. I am married to a Chinese lady and have visited China several times. Food and having a 'Big meal' eating out with family and friends is the norm for social interaction in China. I have eaten excellent food in small cheap eateries and also in expensive Hotels.from the Great Wall in the north all the way down to the Li river in the south. Now I can tell you with hand on heart that the food prepared at the Crown does compare with the best I've tasted in China! Everything is cooked to order and the ingredients are fresh and top quality. If I was slightly more affluent I would eat here every day..Quality food, worth waiting for,Consistently the best Chinese food I've ever tasted outside of China. Just try it for yourself...you will become a follower!

We had Roasted duck and seafood noodles for takeaway. They were okay, not very special as I expected for the price points. Delivery was not very quick. I think I will come to the restaurant to have a more objective view.

Arrived and got seated straight away. Service was good at the start, asked us for our drinks order straight away etc. Starters came (we had soup) and it was very nice. We then ordered our mains and although they say it’s ‘freshly cooked’ they came out after 5 minutes at all different times. We were aware the portions were small, but not that small. We ordered curry and rice, the curry came out but the rice about 10 minutes later. We asked for egg fried rice and got boiled. The order was all mixed up and the timings just weren’t good. By the time the noodles and rice came out the other food was cold. The food itself was ok but the service wasn’t the best. I’d expect all of the food to be brought out at once to ensure the rest of the food isn’t going cold. Probably wouldn’t go back to this restaurant.

I went for my first visit as recommended by friends and I was blown away by the choice of food. What an amazing concept. I can’t wait to go back again.

All you can eat set price venue.Been here a few times (my daughter likes it from r the quantity I think). It’s not cheap if you have anyone in your party with a small appetite. What’s strange is the place has a few menus? One for the general public which is handed out to ‘none Asian’ which is like a Chinese takeaway menu which you order as much as you like and they bring it to you (in small portions but you can order again and again). The Asian community especially Chinese have a different menu and have access to woks on table where they can steam food fresh total different to western customers. Also veg and meat ingredients that the Chinese customers steam etc looks fresh and of better quality than the alternative. It’s all very strange and highlights the different dinning cultures. Joe public isn’t given a choice however and the other menus not given are written in Chinese. All this aside on my last visit much of the food ordered was served Luke warm and sporadic and I had to eat bits as it came so it wasn’t totally cold :( I.e curry sauce and rice delivered 5-10 min apart? Some was nice but very hit and miss this added to different dinning cultures would explain explain mixed reviews. Joe public defiantly get the short straw.

Having read the low reviews recently I was a bit worried that my favourite chinese restaurant had gone downhill and i'd booked a family table for our 35th wedding anniversary.. the food arrived in a timley fashion and the majority on the whole was delicious and freshly cooked. The staff were attentive and helpful..on the whole a great dining experience where my 2 grandkids made more than full use of the dessert section

Been quite a few times here and was good.. had a bad experience and didnt come for a while. Months later the wife and I thought we would try again and wow.. this place was shocking. Food was terrible. Wish i stayed at homd and bought a take out. Tip to restaurant... stop giving loyalty cards out. You are poor

Dined here at the weekend of the al a carte. Two couples four diffrent starters and four diffrent mains, all very good. Large portions well cooked flavoursome food. Tried some different dishes and the waitress explained that we could have some of the dishes wetter ( more sauce) than a chinese person would traditionally enjoy which was very helpful. Would visit again.

Had a superb meal,The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.For the buffet you chose off the menu .They bring you dishes as you request them.You are allowed 2 hours .We had 2 starters each and then 4 main courses .They are small dishes but were ample.You could have seafood and they were lovely.Desserts are OK but not stunning.Drinks were reasonably priced.

Went to this restaurant after recommendation. Very good buffet,good value for money. Excellent ! Will go again .

Awful desserts and overpriced drinks! The hygiene rating on this place seems to be 3 on the leedsgov website. I'd avoid this place, I have yet to go to a buffet that has good quality products.

A good take on the all you can eat Chinese idea.

We arrived as a group of six adults without a reservation. We were seated immediately and offered menus and drinks. The staff were very polite and attentive.

Best traditional Chinese in Leeds. Party of six. Some dinmsums and some main meals. Truly excellent. 3rd. visit.

A great choice for chinese food without being limited to a set menu or paying a little fortune for variety. The food was fresh and delicious, great service.

I really like this place. The food is good, the atmosphere is good, the energy is good, the staff are helpful and polite and what I'm always really impressed with is how fast the food reaches the table after we order. Great place for a romantic dinner or even with the family. It does look a bit shabby however, it needs a drastic makeover but overall its a very nice place and the price reflects that.
