Fantastic hotel and restaurant. Really good quality food ,great ambience and attentive staff. Good menu choice and excellent value for money. Beautiful grounds and views, can’t wait to return in the summer and sit on terraces and watch sunset. Went with my mum in wheelchair and really accessible with plenty of space and great facilities. Thank you team! We attended a flower arranging and afternoon tea workshop which was very well run and really enjoyable. Highly recommend the afternoon tea, there was a number of other people in restaurant for lunch and tea equally enjoying the delicious delights.

The service remains very good However, the food was very disappointing. Bland starters - the salmon mouse was dense and unseasoned (a wedge of lemon would have helped), the pork dumplings were unseasoned and wrapped in a thick chewy dough, the chicken wings were overcooked. The butternut soup was okay. The mains were a little better with the exception of the parsnip and pear risotto which didn't work. Desserts were not finished - the over fried filo pastry dessert was a disaster. It felt like an immersive Faulty Towers dining experience. When my dear father requested bread with his starter he was presented with sliced bread on a plate (no butter). It was a memorable family meal which we will talk about for years.m

Excellent ambience, very good service, but the limited menu was disappointing considering the high prices being charged. We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel but the menu wasn’t changed - so the limited choice was a problem for us.

Went for an afternoon tea, without doubt the service and venue were fabulous. The young lady looking after us was lovely. However we were the only ones in the restaurant and afternoon teas are pre booked but you could tell the food had been plated much earlier in the day. The sandwiches had started to dry out and we only had three small finger sandwich’s each. There were a few cakes however again these were not freshly made. The frostings had dried out and came easily apart from cake. The scones were warmed but again not freshly made. Such a shame as such a lovely view and venue. Definitely was not worth the price we paid and could not possibly recommend the afternoon tea.

We have been to Potagers many times and it is one of our favourite restaurants, the service and the staff are always superb, very friendly and very helpful, but the Sunday roast seems to be variable. One week it is superb the next it is mediocre, this week the meat was very good, but the vegetables and roast potatoes were awful. The vegetables mainly consisted of Kale and red cabbage, and some creamy sauce which also seemed to be Kale, we never figured out quite what it was. We still think this is one of the best places for a Sunday roast and will look forward to our next visit, but please no Kale.

Lovely restaurant! We were a table of four that walked in for sunday roast. We were visiting the city as my brother might go here and we found this gem! The service and attention we received was superb! The roast beef was fantastic and probably one of the best ive had before! Would definitely come back!

Fantastic evening with friends. We booked for one of their seafood and sundowners evenings. Two of our party enjoyed the seafood platters and two ate from the Á là carts menu. There were lovely half price cocktails from 5-7 and the wine list was very reasonable. We moved from the garden where we enjoyed our cocktails and music into the main restaurant to eat. The decor is lovely really upmarket without being overly stiff. The service was great the seafood platters were such a good selection and really reasonable at £16 each. The main menu could do with one or two more choices as a bit limited but what ordered was very well prepared and tasty. After a really nice meal, we were also pleasantly surprised at the bill which doesn’t happen often!

Superb food , lovely decor that is smart yet cosy , service was excellent. For this quality the prices are very reasonable - not much more than many a pub these days yet a far more superior experience.

My husband and I booked at the Potager for an Anniversary Celebration but after a pleasant start to our evening, we came away at the end disappointed. The restaurant itself has a great ambiance and the staff are excellent, friendly and efficient. Having retired from Catering quite a few years ago ( Restauranteurs, Chefs and Publican) we understand how hard it is to keep a balance between traditional dishes and new ideas, where menus are concerned. It was the menu that we found disappointing. It seems to try too hard and adds trendy items, at random, to dishes that do not need or do not go with them. Perhaps give the diner the opportunity have a main course and choose accompanying vegetables. If The Potager Restaurant returns to a more traditional menu then perhaps we shall return but, as it is at the moment, we'll give it a miss.

Went here for Sunday lunch, nice surroundings but the food was very disappointing! We had a 3 course meal. The starters were ok but we had to ask for bread despite all other customers being brought bread before their starter arrived . Our main course was roast pork with crackling, except there was no crackling, a waitress came and asked us halfway through the meal if everything was ok and I asked where the crackling was…. She then brought out a small bowl containing 4 pieces of pork crackling that was not from the pork but a packet sold behind the bar! There was no gravy with the roast and the potatoes were not crispy, but hard and not fresh. The waitress came to clear our plates whilst one of us was clearly still eating which was rude.The deserts were mediocre, and not something we would have again., we didn’t comprehend why deserts require watercress on them! The service was not great, we had one drink and were not asked if we would like another had to ask for the bill and then to pay after waiting patiently!Not a great experience and by far inferior to our usual haunt, The Walnut Tree.

Our first visit will certainly not be our last. For our Ruby Wedding Anniversary we wanted to get everything right and are so glad we chose the Potager. From drinks before the meal in the comfortable yet smart bar, through to the beautiful desserts everything was perfect. The presentation of the food shows imagination and artistic flair while the quality of the food is superb, all cooked to absolute perfection. I have never before had a sirloin steak as tender as fillet! The service is impeccable and the staff extremely professional and attentive without being too ‘fussy’. All in all a happy and memorable evening which we will recall on future visits. This place will always be special to us. We would like here to send our compliments to the chef, our thanks to the whole team and our congratulations to the management on their fine establishment.

A superb restaurant with very high standards for service and food quality. We have visited two weeks running for Sunday roast and on both occasions it has been superb. The staff are very friendly and very efficient, and the food is superb. In our opinion it is without question the best Sunday roast in the area, we really appreciated the spacious table with excellent ventilation, and although it was very crowded the background noise levels were perfect. We can't wait for our next visit

Patchy experience here: we booked for a special celebration meal, based on reviews. The menu was too limited, and a dish three of us wanted sold out. Starters were good, but main meals disappointing. Roast pork was dry; fish dish had chilli in that wasn't mentioned on the menu; pasta ragu serving was small. Worst thing though was a screaming toddler in the room whose parents allowed him to screech at top of his lungs for about half an hour - staff and manager in the restaurant were completely uninterested in doing anything about it. Apart from that, the place has a nice ambience, but the food overall did not live up to the hype. Might be OK for a lunch, but not a special meal.

Lovely food ,well presented and cooked perfectly. Choices were limited. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Decor in the restaurant was outstanding, lovely beams and colour on the walls that created a cosy warm atmosphere

What a beautiful place. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, bright and dressed with table cloth. The menu had a fair range and reasonably priced The food was superb, with great service to complete our experience. I will definitely return

Fantastic Food, Friendliness, Service and Cleanliness, all beautifully presented in a lovely relaxed environment.

We booked to stay at Crouchers hotel purely because we wanted to eat at the Potager’s restaurant. 
We were advised about the Xmas parties and the mission until late at the hotel which we fine with. We didn’t however understand how much this would affect the rest of our stay. 
On our first night we went to the bar for a drink. On the website the hotel advertises a happy hour - when we went to the bar we were told that this was not available and the hotel only had a limited cocktail list and we could only have a table in the bar for an hour because of the parties. Given that we had planned our evening round this, it was very disappointing. 
On our second day at the hotel after leaving breakfast we were asked to give our dinner choices. We were very surprised by this. When querying this with the hotel we were told that the Al a carte menu was not available for us and we were limited to the Xmas menu. If we’d known this on booking we would not have chosen to stay at the hotel. We decided to cancel our booking with the restaurant as the Xmas menu was rather uninspiring and not at all what we thought we were getting upon booking. 
Given this is the first time my husband and I have managed to have some time away in 2.5 years, I am very upset at this. 
Upon explaining to reception staff they frankly didn’t care a less. I guess Xmas parties are more important to them than their hotel guests. 
I would never normally write a negative review but was very disappointed with our experience at Crouchers and it has motivated me to do it on this occasion. 
We paid to stay in the best room in the hotel but despite this the hot water ran out and my husband had to have a cold shower. Again upon reporting this reception showed very little interest. If you are looking for a special dinner and hotel stay I would not recommend Crouchers or the Potagers!

Wow!! Just the best dining experience we have had since Covid restrictions. Hot water bottles, blankets, stunning views and incredible service. 5 star food just makes for the perfect lunch. The staff go out of their way to ensure you have a great time. Cocktails were delicious and we will be back very soon!

I was lucky enough to be brought here for lunch on my Birthday and my word, what a treat it was. A stunning location for a wonderful lunch. The service was impeccable and the staff could not do enough for us. It was a lovely sunny day but a bit on the blustery side and the staff moved our table for us so it was a bit sheltered from the breeze, blankets were also provided. The food, well that was quite frankly stunning. Cooked and presented to perfection, an utterly magnificent treat indeed. Can not recommend this restaurant highly enough and I'm very much looking forward to my next visit. Thank you all so much.

Popped in to crouchers for drinks yesterday evening with some friends without a reservation we where greeted by such a warm welcome we sat in the garden at the rear over looking the meadow listening to relaxing chill out tunes the lovely lady brought us out blankets and hot water bottles along with a jug of water the bar staff where so warm and friendly too thoroughly recommend. Congratulations on the team for creating a welcoming environment with fabulous service and a relaxing ambience.

I Bought the valentines day take away service for my parents as a gift, the service was exceptional.The packaging, the food and the service was brilliant. Upon collection you could tell Charlotte was COVID19 trained. Would recommend and plan on using the take out service again & using the restaurant when we can.

We returned here as we had a great Sunday lunch last year and thought we would try a dinner here.Staff and ambience were good, thats about it....Starter, scallops, well cooked but black pudding crumb far too salty.Main, steak, only one choice, 8oz sirloin but when you take out the fat/gristle probably 6oz, in fact the diameter of beefburger but worse as it was dark purple in the middle with no blood/moisture at all, a sure sign of a cooked from frozen steak and for £23, a disgrace. Pepper sauce, salty again and side of spinach with butter, had no butter.Dessert, 5 types of cheese, couldn't tell you what they were as not explained by the waitress ...., were straight out the fridge and soft ones were like rubber.Would I return? Maybe for a Sunday lunch which looking at other reviews, seems to be their forte.

We stayed here for a couple of nights in early February 2020 to celebrate a special family anniversary. The hotel, restaurant and food were all really lovely. However, our memories of staying here are now tarnished by the number of unsolicited text messages both my husband and I have received throughout the year since. We have requested (more than once) that we are removed from the system, to be told that we have, but sadly this is not the case. My suggestion if you do visit, not to give out your phone number.

Food was reasonably good - steak was great but the duck was a little dry. Wine list OK. Ambiance a little dated.

Its a small menu, but everything sounded great. We went for the seafood. Absolutely the best thing since lockdown.

Delicious food! Overall good service and our meal was great. The socially distanced atmosphere actually worked and made it even more intimate. Highly recommend for a date night for a delicious meal.

What a treat after lockdown!My father has been in shielding for the whole of lockdown and this was our first visit out together since before restrictions.Everyone was friendly and welcoming and all staff were in masks which made us feel very at ease, as we were anxious about eating out but were pleasantly surprised. All the staff kept their distance throughout which was great.Now onto the food- I had the starter of mackerel and my father had chicken pate. Both were tasty, as were our mains, would definitely recommend the local catch which we believe changes from day to day. Fresh and served in a yummy sauce with capers and lemon. All in all a great post COVID experience and we will certainly be back again as were locals.

Very disappointed. The food was just underwhelming in general, although my wide enjoyed her catch of the day. The Fig, Walnut and Blue cheese salas, tasted ok, the only issue was there were only two very small quarter of fig. I would have at least expected a whole fig for the money. The Courgette Pave main course was bland, I could have slice and grilled a courgette at home as well, the overly sweet beetroot purée was just sickly. To top it all, the afogato desert was the smallest I have ever seen, barely a quarter of a scoop of ice cream (see photo). Won’t be coming back.

Thought we would support local family business. On arrival was very surprised no masks being worn by any staff just a couple off floor stickers,hand sanitiser not obvious as it blended in to much with decor,needs to stand out so people use it. We choose to sit outside which looked very tired dirty tables. Our order was taken,waiter (no mask or visor) then tried to lean over us to lay cutlery we asked for distant and just leave in at end off table. Starters arrived waitress(no mask or visor ) who was a lot better with keeping distant. The food was delicious,unfortunately we didn’t stay long as we felt uncomfortable so no pudding or coffee just starter & main, my husband’s main was meal came out wrong and was then told the burger wasn’t meant to be on the menu but they just knocked it up which was missing extras, why they didn’t just say sorry burgers not available. We were then over charged with my husbands meal they corrected it and then again over charged us with total amount not until I checked my receipt. I then went back in to tell them, waiter once again walked into my space and said only the receptionist can amend the over payment and then to be told refund will take 5 days to be back into my account. Sadly we won’t be returning to this family run business.

I’d heard great things about the food here so booked a romantic night away with my husband. So disappointed to find that the a la carte menu wasn’t available and we had a choice of either burger or plaice for our meal. Not quite the romantic evening we’d planned!! I’m sooooo glad we didn’t book one of the package deals (we paid for room only) as we never would have made up the value with the food that was available. I certainly won’t be rushing back.

From the start being able to sit in a lounge area for a drink and select from the menu was lovely. We were a party of six.The ambience of the restaurant is wonderful, everything about it gives confidence that you are going to have a good evening. 5 of our 6 chose Scallops as the starter and all praised the choice, our 6th person chose Marinated Veg which was also very good. Again 5 of our 6 chose Lamb for the main course which was more than excellent, I asked the waitress to tell the chef it was the best Lamb dish I had ever tasted. Desserts or Cheese course were very good. Choices of wine offered suited us and were reasonably priced.Service was very good with pleasant staff.Coffee and Liqueurs afterwards were taken back in the lounge.We have eaten in this restaurant several times and never been disappointed, an excellent venue for a special night out.

My friend and I were exploring Chichester area and decided to stop by for some lunch at The Potager Restaurant.The food was freshly cooked and tasted amazing. I had a fillet of hake and my friend had lamb chops. We both loved our main courses. Luckily we decided to share a chocolate fondant as no way I could have finished it on my own! It was delicious but what a chocolate overload!The atmosphere was good. We could pick a table where we wanted to sit so chose a nice window table in the corner. Staff were also very knowledgeable and could answer our questions. Will be recommending.

Lovely food, but my soup was lukewarm. It’s a shame as the rest of the food was superb. It was changed and rectified to my satisfaction.

Great food and great atmosphere. Good choice of South African wines. The staff were friendly and efficient. They gave the right balance of personal service and giving you space and time to enjoy your meal. Christine was fantastic with her sense of humour. Thank you for making our evening so enjoyable.

What an amazing evening/night. Very relaxed with good entertainment. Food excellent and exactly as ordered. The staff were very attentive. Would like to thank Cath on the meet and great, Katie for excellent waitress service and Callum and Oscar behind the bar. All worked extremely well. Would definitely recommend going just for breakfast, lunch, dinner or for any special occasion.

We enjoyed the whole dining experience from start to finish. A very nice welcome and farewell from Paula at reception (great to practice our Spanish again!) and equally so with Charlotte who served and entertained us at the table! The food was very good and the wine nicely priced. We would definitely return again.

I think this is now our 4th or 5th time here and we LOVE it. The food is always delicious and cooked perfectly and the front of house staff are always attentive but never intrusive. It’s a great place if youre after a romantic meal as the evenings are so cosy in the restaurant and the lights always create a great mood. Definitely recommend and we’ll be back again!

Just had the most amazing supper at Potager Restaurant with a group of friends. Amazing atmosphere, food and the staff were so friendly. Will definitely be back soon.

Nice restaurant, very quiet, pleasant surroundings. However, Sunday lunch did not live up to expectations. Although our starters were good the main course was poor. Roast potatoes so hard not even the knife could cut through the outer surface which was rock hard rather than crispy. Yorkshire puddings were heavy, soggy things rather than light and delicious. Vegetables were ok but nothing special. Meat ok but again nothing special. And at £24 pp for 2 courses we expected better. This isn't the first time we have been disappointed in the food, so lesson learned, we won't be returning again. Crouchers really needs to live up to its own hype!!

We always enjoy visiting Crouchers Restaurant but have not been for some time. We were a bit put off by the funny new name of "Pottiger" they have given it and wondered if it was still the same. Definitely no need to worry, it is only the name that is different, the Restaurant is as good as ever. We had the Sunday roast and it was excellent, the staff are superb always available but not overwhelming. The only disappointment for me was the desert. I had the Apple/blackberry crumble and it was possibly one of the worst I have ever had. It was incredibly sweet and the fruit seemed to have been liquefied, perhaps just a matter of taste, but not to mine. We will definitely be back and would recommend it.

Excellent food and service and soothing decor. Not a huge menu but personally I prefer that, as it meant they could focus on the quality, which was faultless.

Crouchers Potager Restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

My wife and I went for a lunch time meal with a spirit fm voucher. When we arrived we found the 2 staff that attended us to be very un professional I ordered a beer and my wife ask what wine they had and was told that they only had one type not a good start. We both ordered main meals the meals came my wife's meal was fine but mine was utter crap I order ribeye steak chips and veg and pepper corn souce it came with no veg so I had to wait the veg came after about 5 min so I started to eat but the Peper source was so salty I couldn't eat it all and refused to pay I ask to speak to chef thay said he or she had left. The desert was also rubbish and they charge for tap water. Note I would not give this place a one star rate.

What can we say .... serving staff were courteous and very friendly. The starter of Ham hock Croquette was absolutely delicious

My wife and I had the set 3 course menu to start the Ham hock croquets the chicken and fish cake for mains and the creme brûlée to finish all the dishes were fantastic washed down with a lovely bottle of procceco the food was very tasty and can’t fault this place whatsoever the staff were lovely and friendly, I asked the waitress when do you change the menu which is about every 3 months certainly looking forward to trying a new menu.

My boyfriend and I came for the moules frites again which is on every Thursday. We came a month or two ago and we were not disappointed. The food was just as good, if not better than the first time and because my boyfriend doesn’t like moules he had a burger from the bar menu which was delicious, I had a bite because it looked amazing! Service was really attentive and I’d definitely recommend and look forward to our next visit already

The staff at Crouchers Hotel, Potager Restaurant, set out an amazing table in the conservatory for 19 of our family and friends to celebrate my (very) significant birthday lunch. The food was to a very high standard and the service superb.

We have been coming to this restaurant for almost 12 years. Always excellent food and service. We came last night for a family meal with 7 of us.

A really nice birthday meal, staff friendly, particular mention to Christine for her charm and front of house excellence. Food great, courteous service, thoroughly enjoyable!

I had been aware of the restaurant at Crouchers Hotel but not eaten here previously and booked online so was very pleased by the warm welcome, attentive waiting staff and the ambiance of the restaurant. The food was well priced and great quality with a breadth of choice. I would certainly book again and would recommend to friends and family in the Chichester area.

Poor service and only adequate food did not make for a good experience. The owner/managers discount off the bill was a pleasant acknowledgement of their shortcomings.

We enjoyed Sunday Lunch at the restaurant with our friends. The restaurant is very tastefully decorated and the food was superb. There were masses of staff on hand to attend to your every whim. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience.

We were celebrating my wife's birthday and were seated in the side restaurant which seems to be missed out when the waiting staff walk the restaurant. My wife had a glass of wine at the start of the meal and ended up working through our jug of water because we didn't see a waiter throughout to order another drink.

Attractive dining room. Decent menu. Food good.....but service slow. Finally our coffee never came and we resorted to queuing in the bar to get our bill. Wasn't particularly busy - just didn't have sufficient competent staff.

Excellent food. Lovely friendly staff. Good value for money. Eclectic decor throughout. Had a really nice meal with family. Will be back soon.

We went to the Potager restaurant expecting to have a nice lunch to celebrate my birthday. The service was slow but we eventually got and enjoyed our starters. Sadly the experience was ruined by the waitress and the chef having a blazing row and f’ing and blinding at each other. We felt very uncomfortable and I eventually went in to the kitchen and asked them to keep the noise down. We chose not to stay for desert. The food was lovely but the experience was not what you would expect from a restaurant of this standard. We were comped two glasses of wine by way of an apology.

My wife and I had an amazing lunch at Potager. Restaurant in Crouchers Country Hotel. The decor and ambience are lovely. The meal was superb, and the staff we dealt with were a delight.
