After being recommended the pub by a friend we took a visit and was not disappointed!! Cosy country pub with very friendly and accommodating staff that cannot do enough for you from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. Food was absolutely superb with more than ample portions, which you could tell was all freshly made with not one bit coming from a freezer and their selection of wine, beers and spirits was one of the best I have seen in a pub. I cannot recommend this quaint place enough and will 100% be back for a second visit!! 5* rating without a doubt!!!

The Best Meal of our Holiday! We stumbled across this lovely pub on a recent visit to Wales and booked a table for when we came back a couple of weeks later. We were so impressed. The welcome, the service, the food was all faultless. The owner served us and his passion for his trade was obvious. We can see this hidden gem becoming very difficult to get into as it is going to get a reputation for being one of the best places in the area to eat out. We will definitely be returning (and pre booking our table). Give this place a try, you won’t be disappointed. We would have been happy to pay the full price let alone the great deal we got with the governments 50% off deal for August.

We called Friday and had to be seated by 8 pm (early for a Friday?)I had fish and chips, the fish was OK but the chips were under cooked, I expected proper chips but they were more like potato wedges, I feel £14 was expensive and no slice of lemon ! We waited a long time to be served drinks . Small glass of white wine . Pint of FLAT draft Guinness . Pint of Peroni £15 !! . We sat in the bar . What a disappointment . No atmosphere whatsoever . Just sad looking decor overall looking unloved and thrown together . In the corner was what looked no like a wood burning stove . With ash splicing out , perhaps having a fire would have helped the aesthetics . I would consider having the new licensee present to greet & welcome people would have been helpful to promote customers returning . Unfortunately we will not be returning. To the cross inn .

So disappointing, we’ve recommended this pub to our friends and family after some great meals. Today’s visit was a big disappointment- we sent two meals back (we’ve never done that before). I had the Welsh breakfast, but it was a poor imitation of what I had on my last visit, the mushroom was uncooked, the poached egg was rock hard and solid, the toast was moist bread, we also had a potion under cooked chips. We sent back the Welsh rarebit, which was uncooked mushroom sauce on limp bread and inedible. The replacement ham sandwich looked like it was made by an eight year old, and went back too. On the positive side the beer (Butty Bach) was brilliant and the hard working bar staff are great. We walked into Harry’s bar in Cowbridge and had a much better brunch meal and recommend this place highly, we won’t be back to the Cross Inn until their high standards have been restored (perhaps the owners were away for Christmas?). So sad

I used to eat at this pub on a weekly basis so when I heard there had been a change of owner, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and turned up for Sunday lunch. When the beef arrived it was rare. The veg was rock hard and from a can, and the portions were tiny . When the last owner had it the lunches were fantastic . The portions were big and they also provided cauliflower and extras at a cheaper price. The new staff were friendly and attentive but I’m afraid I shall not return unless the standard in the cooking picks up. Sad as it’s my local pub!

We were looking for somewhere for a family meal to celebrate our sons 21st birthday . We thought we’d try the recently refurbished Cross Inn in Cowbridge as we’d heard good reports on its new chef and owners .Well we were so glad that we chose this venue . We booked a table for 7 and Its a good job that we did as the restaurant was full . We had pre drinks in the bar whilst waiting for the whole party to arrive .The owner is so friendly and welcoming as are the staff . We all had starters which were delicious and we couldn’t resist ordering the fresh warm bread rolls and butter. I had a steak as did 3 others accompanied by a creamy peppercorn sauce and one had the Stilton sauce which was excellent . I barely had to cut my steak as it was so tender and the home made chips and onion rings were to die for . Everyone who had the steak made the same comments . 2 had the sausages and mash with an amazing tasty gravy . I could hear somebody on the next table commenting on how good the gravy with the sausages was.My grandson had the steak burger which was huge and he loved it .The owner made us feel so welcome what with his attentive service and humour ..We all cleared our plates and normally would have a dessert but the two courses had filled us. I’d left a birthday cake with them when I’d arrived,so they asked me when I was ready to let them know .They brought the lit cake in whilst singing happy birthday accompanied with 7 side plates and a knife to cut the cake so we could have a slice each . We had coffee to finish the night off . I thought that the whole evening was excellent value for money . The drinks were reasonably priced as was the food . My husband is often difficult to please when it comes to dining out, but even he said it was a great choice and he couldn’t fault anything.(that’s definitely a compliment )We are looking forward to booking Sunday lunch and will also book another evening meal as we can’t wait to try the home made desserts .

My experience at the cross in wasn’t very nice. I ordered myself the burger but when it came I found that the meat was over cooked and also very chewy, I didn’t complain as I didn’t want to ruin the evening for me and my family. When we ordered the bill we saw that the price was about 150 pounds. What we ate tasted shop bought. If we wanted shop bought food guess where we would of gone. The SHOP! Not a restaurant with good reviews. I am definitely disappointed. We told the man that there must of been a mistake but he was rude to us and he said “if it’s too expensive for you, you should go to the harvester” I was shocked that the waiter was being so bitchy. His job is too serve food not to tell us where to eat and be rude to us. I was so disgusted. I was definitely not expecting him to be so rude. It was so silly, he sounded like a toddler. I am sooo disappointed and I will DEFINITELY not be going there again. I wouldn’t go back there if it was the last restaurant in the world. I’m disappointed. Just disappointed. It was expensive and disgusting, it’s very hard to get both of these things but they did it easily.

I desperately wanted this place to be our new local - it is on my doorstep and I imagined many a happy moment - meeting with friends for a few drinks or a place take the family for dinner or weekend lunches. I am gutted to say that we won’t be going back. The service was slow, the food was awful : over cooked rump steak burger, bland salmon, undercooked tagliatelle stuck together in chunks, side of olive oil tasted like chip fat and the bread was doughy and almost sweet (Not what I expected for £5 per portion). I would not have written this review, but given the way the waiter (who turned out to be the owner) spoke to my friend, I felt the need to share! Apparently if she was not happy with the price of cheap, doughy, crappy bread she should go to a harvester !!! He also added that everyone in cowbridge charges a similar price. He obviously didn’t appreciate who he was talking to! And offered no apologies for our disappointment in service, quality for money, etc... he simply said he has been open for a month and not had any complaints, but what he failed to mention was that he hasn’t had any repeat custom either and now I know why.

Booked to go here for a family meal before a day out at Llandow Circuit today, after visiting last year and really enjoying last time......well what a disappointment today!! After’s being rung yesterday to ask to preorder what meat we would like for Sunday lunch, there was no mention as to why, and today discovered from the poor waiter that they were closing tomorrow as being taken over by someone else. We were served pre-cooked from yesterday, and warmed up in microwave today Sunday lunch.....it was absolutely awful and not what you expect from a restaurant. It was inedible, my mum asked for a latte and was told machine was off, and waiter came out with a kenco coffee sachet. We were still charged for latte £2.60 for a coffee from a sachet. When asked to speak to the manager, he came out and really did not care about it, and his reply was “the buck stops with me and all other people have enjoyed it so will have to pay”well I find that hard to believe as we were the only people in the restaurant...... he was very rude and unapologetic, no wonder they are being taken over by someone else! Still had to pay for disgusting uneaten food. We all left very annoyed, and 2 hungry children too!

I don’t often go out, we have 2 small children so when we go out it’s really special. We came back because we ate here on Father’s Day and had a lovely burger and chips. Tonight was a different story!!! No starters offered- strange! Burger was shop bought and not even nice! Looked like a value version. Dessert- waffles I’m sure were from Lidl. A lot of things looked shop bought. Disappointed as this is not what I expected. Not worth the cash or the calories tonight! Gutted.

After reading reviews especially managers comments. Of the pub being closed so that staff can have time off. I thought the customer paid their wages and there are people willing to work.

Got shouted at across the car park... By the landlord... "you can't park there if you're not coming in the pub"... We may have been going for a walk and going in there after...? So we moved the car and didn't go in. Not sure I will be back.

Went to go tothe Cross Inn one lunctime in a week day to find it completely in darkness and closed, this would have been around 1.00pm. Sign on the outside saying it was open. We thought we would try it and made a special effort to come from Dinas Powys as we had heard the advertisements on the local radio. Sorry wont be going there again. Total and utter waste of time and diesel, shame because we were so looking forward to our visit

We came here for our anniversary. Was a nice meal but not cheap. As we has a lovely meal I don’t mind paying a bit extra. My grandparents used to own this pub going back about 30 years so bringer back some nice memories.

Went for birthday lunch with my parents after being tempted by one of the many amazing (if under publicised) deals they were (and probably still are) running. Ordered whitebait, fishcakes, and garlic mushrooms to start: first was fine; second tasty; and third a severe disappointment, with little to no garlic taste and half a funny-tasting brown bread roll rather than a white baguette I know to have been served with it in the past. For mains we ordered the lamb and mint pie, beef burger, and vegetable lasagne: the first was good but the accompanying chips were really not, being of the bad-quality frozen kind; the second was hearty, accompanied by nice onion rings and perfectly cooked piece of bacon; and the third quite tasty, filling, and incredibly cheesy if a little skimpy on pasta and lacking in herbs (it benefited significantly from some of the parsley in the side salad). Suzanne was very attentive as always, offering us an array of alternatives to the complimentary side salads due to low stock. Incredibly good value for money on the basis that the lasagne and fishcake were part of a two course for £8 lunchtime deal that you can't really fault, and we also acquired a free bottle of wine for spending over £29.50. Portion sizes were good and we were all left feeling full for hours afterwards. Would return in future.

Excellent Pub. The food lunch time was excellent. Tomato & Basil soup best I have ever had. Lunch Time menu superb. The bar lady/waiter at table was also lovely. Made us feel so welcome, and to crown it all we sat around the log burner to eat. The icing on the cake, our dog was allowed into the bar where we enjoyed our meal. Will will most certainly return.

After a walk on the beach with our beagles we were too late for the Sunday lunch ( which had sold out) but the very welcoming staff offered us the dinner menu and agreed to cook for us, despite us being rather late. The food was excellent, the staff could not have been lovelier.

Often drive past this place, always looked a bit unwelcoming. They recently gave it a coat of paint and a spruce up so it looks quite nice. We had heard rumours that a new chef was in place so decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was really nice, the bar lady explained that a recent refurb had been undertaken - all looks very modern and welcoming. There's a separate bar area but we stayed in the restaurant and had a drink on the decking terrace outside, which was lovely in the sunshine.

So parked in the Car Park, walked over to the entrance, placed one foot inside. Lady from behind the bar (about 20 meters away) shouts “can I help you”, oh ok, yes I’m after a table for 2... Not serving food at the moment, due to staff holiday, food will be back on next Wednesday (it’s Thursday). So I took my foot of the premises and went back to my car. I don’t mind really that there not doing food for a week, but why shout at me before I even get inside?! I may of wanted a drink. I think it should be renamed- The Cross (if you come) Inn...
