Found this lovely pub after searching for a dog friendly pub in the area. It was very dog friendly with plenty of room between tables. We went on the Saturday and were that impressed with the quality produce and that the food was lovely and hot that we booked to go back for the Sunday lunch. Sunday lunch did not disappoint and we couldn’t resist the homemade apple and berry crumble which was delicious 😋

Two young ladies running the show. Where excellent. Friendly and efficient. Perfect. Food very good. Proper pie. Not the usual bit of pastry as a lid. Think some staff still training but trying hard. Nice atmosphere. Looking forward to return visit.

Lovely ambience and we were very well served by the staff on the two occasions we visited. The food is excellent too. Cannot recommend this establishment highly enough!

I haven't been here since Marston's Brewery took it back from Brunning & Price so was really keen to see what changes, if any, had been made. A little disappointed in the menu. Not so ambitious but opted for the salt and pepper spare ribs for starter. Tasty but a little on the oily side. I went for the scampi main course. Served piping hot and a very good sized portion of scampi. I had a half of the Banks's dark beer, to try, 3.5ABV is plenty strong enough if I'm driving. Unfortunately the waiting staff didn't enquire if I wanted the other half or something else so I didn't bother. The biggest plus for this pub is the location so will look forward to returning in warmer weather to enjoy the views of the 'River Dee' from the terrace.

Food portions extremely small for the price that is charged. The black pudding stack consisted of 2 thin pieces of black pudding a piece of bacon and some peppercorn sauce. The portion of the steak pie wasn’t much better. Portions do not justify the prices charged.

Really disappointed. Thai red curry didn't resemble a Thai curry at all. The sauce was very watery with a chilli taste and had no coconut milk or richness about it. It was like it had come out of a shop bought jar and watered down. The burger and chips were just that with no salad or anything else on the plate. The plate looked empty and bland. The olives and sun-dried tomato starter was missing the sun-dried tomato element. We were so disappointed as there was only one other couple in the dining area when in the past the pub dining has been busy and thriving. The music was loud and not quite the type of music to have playing in a restaurant. Unfortunately the cross foxes used to have a place in our hearts, however we will not be going back. We did leave a tip for the waitresses who were attentive as was the lady behind the bar.

First visit since taken over! Will definitely return! Staff absolutely amazing!

I used to go regularly when I lived in the area. Called in when passing, and the Pub is not a good as it used to be.

Very welcoming and attentive waiting staff. No rush to order or leave the table even though they were busy. We were a group of four and all had a different main and pudding. Everyone was happy with their food.

Went for a meal on New Years Eve, the food was excellent and the service outstanding. Will definitely go back for another meal.

Thoroughly enjoyable evening having a Christmas family catch-up. Having had a couple of visits since reopening I didn’t hesitate to choose Cross Foxes as our venue. Although the place was busy the service on our table of 11 was excellent 😍

We came for an evening meal and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. The food was prepared and plated with thought. Plenty of drink selection, they also accept dogs anywhere in the building. We didn’t have to only sit in one area. The service was attentive and thoughtful which made our time here most enjoyable. We will definitely be going back in the very near future. Lunch with dear friends at one of our favourite venues and all was good.

Lovely food & atmosphere. Very cosy with the log fire. Dog friendly, The location by the river is very peaceful and relaxing. The experience was enjoyed by all the family including our dogs 🐕

This was always a favourite pub when it was a Brunning and Price pub and we wondered how it would be under the Martin Brothers. Well, it was excellent! Food was superb and beer fine. It had a lunch menu as well as a main menu which is great if you don't want to be too full on a walking day. Good friendly service as well. Location as splendid as ever on the mighty river Dee.

Late lunch but pub still serving food and very relaxed and good atmosphere. Food was good, steak pie was full of meat and vegetables cooked perfectly.

Lovely food in a terrific setting. Plenty of parking available at the time we visited. We were given a friendly welcome and seated quickly on a table with views over the river. Our order was taken after browsing the extensive menus. Food was served quickly and tasted lovely. Overall a great experience. Will definitely return in the summer and take advantage of the outdoor seating area which looked fantastic.

This used to be a lovely place to eat and we used to be regulars but unfortunately we have found today having booked for Sunday lunch that things have changed but not for the better. Whilst the staff are friendly and helpful the food we found to be wanting !!! We had the 3 courses and non of them were anything special. Just normal put on yhe plate pub grub. So afraid we will not be returning.

Me and my girlfriend had dinner here, I had the smokey burger and she had half a rack of ribs, The food was lovely we both really enjoyed it. The staff are really friendly and made sure we had drinks and everything we needed. Friendly atmosphere and a lovely picturesque river running alongside it.

Went here for the first time since it changed hands. Lovely atmosphere. They have kept the level of food and service that was there when it was owned by the restaurant group. Prices much the same. Our starters and main courses were really good except that the chunky chips were clearly frozen. They weren't bad but it would have been nicer if they were fresh considering it's not a cheap night out. When it came to the sweets we felt really disappointed. The Brownie and the tart were really good but the milk chocolate and honeycomb tart was like something from Tesco's freezer and the creme brulle had zero taste. Needs buckets more vanilla. All in all we were happy. Especially with the staff. They were friendly and efficient. Will go back but maybe change our pudding choices or give them a miss.

recently returned to a Marston's pub and the difference is noticeable. the beer was competitively priced to be fair but the menu seems to be about £2 pricier for what it delivers. that's not to say the mains were poor they weren't it's just that they, for me at least didn't represent value for money. things got worse for the deserts. they were priced between £6.50 and £7.50. the milk chocolate and honeycomb had no crunch of honeycomb and no depth of flavour to the chocolate or accompanying ice cream. the creme brulé also lacked flavour with hardly any hint of vanilla served in a ramekin size that is found in a supermarket that you can buy 2 for 3.50. both deserts were an assault of sweetness it may be the cross foxes but for me it's where we met the nags head menu with pant yr ochain prices.

They seem to run out of a lot of things and the young waitress are not very customer focused but overall its OK, but lost a bit if its way since the change of management

I arrived solo without booking a table. It wasn't busy so the staff were happy to seat me. The food was excellent. A beautiful spot for summer drinks at the side of the Dee!

My husband myself and 2 dogs were holidaying in the area , and we're looking for a dog friendly pub for a late lunch ,all in all we were not disappointed, Staff are very pleasant and welcoming . We had the Sunday lunch it was well cooked and made with quality ingredient's a little expensive for the portion size but what isn't these days ? .The setting is idilic and overlooks the river Dee ,we were looked after well and would definitely visit again .

We were invited out for an evening meal with some good friends. We were nothing but seriously impressed with everything. Superbly prepared and presented dishes in great surroundings. We were given a very warm welcome and looked after royally. A great food and drinks menu that is high quality good value.

Been a long time since we have been here and can only say it was Really Good , 4 of us had a really good meals , Steak pie was great for me , also the Pork Steak was excellent and the same with the Chicken Supreme. Was hoping to have the Belly Pork but not on (next time hopefully lol ) but they let me try the Cider sauce that would have been with the Belly Pork and it was lovely . Service was great ,

Had a nice evening and meal here. It's very pretty outside on the terrace area overlooking the River Dee with the roses and the solar lights. Lots of bird song, including an owl, as it got dark. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The toilets were clean. The food was nice, especially the yummy sticky toffee pudding. Limited car parking for about 10 cars. Free wifi. Will be back.

The Cross Foxes has the most superb setting being right on the River Dee. It has a wonderful outside terraced sitting/dining area directly overlooking this majestic river, so it's location is prime. It was previously a Brunning & Price restaurant and is now under new management/ownership. I hope the new owners make a success of it. We live relatively nearby and know it quite well. We recently called in for an early evening fish and chip supper which was tasty and the new owners appear to be working very hard to make a success of it. It was quite busy when we were there and was filling up as we left. We often like a soup and sandwich for lunch and are pleased to see they offer a choice of them on their menu.

My wife and I visit the Cross Foxes every year when we return to Ellesmere from Southport for a peaceful break. This year, on Saturday Sept 2nd, we visited the Cross-Foxes for a good meal - as always- al-fresco in the beautiful outdoor garden. The food is always excellent, however this year we both chose simple Fish & Chips. The taste was wonderful, with proper chunky chips. However my only complaint was that the batter around the fish was too thick and heavy. With a little lighter batter the meal, however simple, would have been delicious. Please advise the chef, for the food (although a little expensive) is always 'tres bien' . Our waitress, a young lady, was very attentive and helpful. Hope to return soon.

I've not eaten here, so can't comment on the food, but this is a goregous little pub! Lovely outdoor area with a view of the river and some lovely countryside. Great spot for walkers to stop by on their way passing through.

Beautiful pub in a gorgeous location and the food was equally as impressive. We popped in on the off chance around 5:30pm on a Tuesday and were warmly welcomed. Service was excellent, and the food was top notch pub grub, the chef clearly takes great pride in the food they serve. It was well cooked, delicious, and served quickly by a really friendly waiter. We've lived in the area for 7 years and heard good things but this was the first time we'd made it, I now realise what we have been missing. Its an absolute gem of a place and we will most definitely be back!

First visit to the Cross foxes food was great and service very good, price was reasonable, the bonus was they had a gluten free ice cream as well as vegan and gluten free on rhe main menu, also small portions were available. Lovely setting by the river and a swing for our 7 year old. We'll be back.

The food is fantastic the atmosphere is awful the staff need training in interpersonal skills no interaction whatsoever with the customers I know the brothers run the pub the chef is outstanding but the front of house needs training in customer relations this is obviously filtering down through the staff who just stand around and don’t interact. Our party walked in were showed to a table the menus were put on the the table without any explanation or even being asked if we wanted a drink so had to go to the bar myself to purchase a drink. When we got the bill two drinks and a bottle of wine where missing off the bill when we brought this to the waitresses attention we weren’t even thanked with hindsight we should have just paid the original bill and walked out. Overall great food with atrocious service.

First time at this pub as we are new to the area. The food was excellent and our waitress Grace was first rate catering for all our requirements . The view from the restaurant is spectacular! Really worth a visit. Dogs are welcome here, they even have a barrel of “Poors Water” especially for them.

Main meal was terrible. Lamb chops were fatty and badly cooked. The Thai green curry was tasteless and gloopy. Would NOT recommend. Service was averaged. Disappointing considering it was a special celebration.
