Absolutely fabulous bacon and maple sausage Rolls.... delicious.... a definite stop for us as a family on a trip to Brighton

Used to be one of my favourite places in Brighton, best croque madames and sausage rolls in town. I don't know if they have changed ownership or something but the quality now is a joke, don't bother!

I used to love Croque Shop when I first moved here in 2015. They had excellent pastries and sandwiches. Notice my use of past tense, because those days are sadly gone. The food quality has really taken a nosedive. I grabbed a 'feta and spinach slice' when I was in the area earlier and it was actually pretty gross. The texture on the inside was slimy and the pastry bit on the outside didn't have the pleasant flakey texture most people would want. It was so unappetizing I threw half of it away. I'm sure they get a lot of foot traffic, but man this place is a shell of its former self. There's clearly not any love going into the food since the old owner left. I'm not in a hurry to visit again.

What on earth has happened to this place? Used to serve delicious hot sausage rolls and bakes with crisp pastry. Among the best in town. Now, the recipe seems just as good but they’re slapping them in a microwave, so you get a lukewarm, soggy waste of money. Microwaves and pastry - absolute no, no.

Had the steak bake. It was horrible. Though of getting one as it looked good at the window. The pastry came out from the microwave, soggy, underbaked and half warmed. It was really bad. Might as well go to Greg’s.

Took forever to make the food, seemed completely disinterested in what they were doing and I discovered after I left that they'd forgot half the ingredients to what I ordered

Seems very understaffed. Despite just one other customer in there, waited 5 mins to be served because the only person working there was upstairs. Asked for a traditional cornish pasty, got back to my office and discovered it was a cheese an onion. Waste of £4.50

Enjoyed a very tasted pork and caramelised onion sausage roll. It had a lovely rich flavour, although the pastry could have more of a bite to it.

What can I say!!! The staf today are rude and completely not the pair you want serving food, when asked a simple question like what's in that pasty I was told "didn't know we have that" and "oh I don't know". Don't worry I won't be back if you don't know what you are selling why should I buy your food

Not the best time to visit on a wintery day but the snacks on offer were very attractive.

Surprised at what I got given the reviews. Had the vegan slice and although the taste is good, it's definitely not a slice. Pastry is soggy and more like bread, and it falls apart before you get the chance to eat it.

Best sandwiches and sausage rolls ever. Staff are lovely and I will definitely be back. Chicken and cheese spicy sandwich was amazing! Thank you for good food and well priced

Bought a cheese and ham slice and traditional beef pastie. I was asked if I would like my slice warming up and said not if it was going to be soggy with grease. Same conversation for the pastie. The slice was heated to such an extent that it had to be double wrapped so as it could be safely handled. Unfortunately the slice was soaked in fat, floppy and looked more like a piece of bread soaked in fat. Absolutely repulsive. The shop assistant said I was being aggressive when I complained about it, which I wasn't and initially refused to do anything. Eventually I got a refund. The pastie was only marginally better. The table outside was filthy, we wiped it outself with handwipes. All in all, as poor an establishment as we've been too in a long while.

Me and my partner visited the shop on Tuesday,we have been twice before this and absolutely loved it. But when visited in Tuesday 21st June we were very disappointed the girl took our order and we noticed that the preparation area was very dirty and being vegetarian it has pepperoni on it ,she told us should call us when I our croque was ready so we sat down outside then a girl entered the shop and started chatting to her it was obviously a friend of hers they just carried on chatting and did not seem interested in doing our order several over customers came in and seemed to be anyoned by it , when it finally arrived we were disappointed as the last time we came we were offered if we would like any sauce in it. During the night I was stuck several times I think this was due to your shop,I am so disappointed I really like your shop such a shame being let down by a lazy member of staff that was working ,on 21st June

This sadly is not the place it used to be. The sausage rolls use to be amazing. So fresh, full of flavour and thin pastry. Went there at the weekend and just looking at their window display they didn’t look good. Tried one anyway and it was extremely disappointing. Won’t be going back.

Great little cafe with restaurant quality food. Imagination goes into the croques. Some great different toppings and top quality produce. Excellent service.

Completely changed since the owner is not here anymore. Used to be absolutely amazing, now it's quite bad in term of food quality. Receipes are not authentic anymore.

This is a little gem in the Lanes in Brighton! The food is lovely, my oldest daughter says their traditional sausage rolls are the best she has ever tasted. I stopped in there with my youngest on Saturday who had a steak pasty and I had a vegan roll, the food was excellent. The experience was enhanced by the service and the man who served us (I think his name was Matt) was friendly and took the time to advise us even though it was very busy. Will definitely go there again!

Brilliant Sausage Rolls and friendly staff! Definitely recommend the chorizo pork roll, great to takeaway to the beach.

I cant believe all the other reviews to then recieve this, theres was barely any filling just mostly damp break and tonnes of cheap melted cheese. It was flavourless and soggy and the sausague roll was slightly better but still more of the same.

Speedy and reasonably priced! Mine came in a useful box. I had a lovely grilled cheese here, It was very good. The seagull that flew at my face and tried to steal it clearly thought so too. But I bravely ran away and finished my toastie hiding in an alleyway. Would return!

Literally the best toasted sandwich going. I got the croque madam and it was unreal. Friendly staff. So far I have been 3 times and I'm definitely going to go another 3 times.

I'm sorry to give 2 stars!. Used to love this place but I'm afraid to say without the French man there has gone downhill and feels disorganised and lower quality, also much less bechamel which is upsetting... the staff don't seem to know what's going on though they are very friendly. Used to have 1 per week but it's off my schedule for the time being. Please sort it out and I'll be right back as a regular and will change the star level! Come on guys you can sort it out!

We were only in Brighton a few days and there is a super selection of lunch places there, but this was so good that we went back a second time. I can't recommend it highly enough!

It is difficult to overemphasise just how good the food is here! We had the breakfast croque, which was gorgeous & the pork & marmite (marmite!!) sausage roll which was absolutely fantastic, I lost half of mine to my son who 'definitely wasn't hungry' until he tasted it. But. The standout moment. The absolute peak! The pork & ghost chilli sausage roll. This was devised & made by someone who loves chilli because it was hot, but not YouTube Challenge hot. You got the flavour of what is actually a very tasty chilli. I suspect this was because they used either pulp or oil rather than the seeds in the meat. Hands down the best sausage roll I (we, everyone stole some) have EVER had, bar none, no exceptions.

What a find on Saturday morning. Everything in the window just screamed "Buy me, eat me". It was a popular place for sure. We sat outside to eat and saw the interest. The young lady who served us was delightful and when I returned our empty plates everyone inside thanked me for the custom. We had the Croque Monsieur and it was a FEAST. Superb. Thank you everyone at the Croque Shop :-)

Went twice during our trip to Brighton, all the sandwiches were amazing!!! Top quality bread and fillings at a decent price.

My boyfriend told me to try this place, so glad i did... the breakfast toasted sandwich was so good and the sausage rolls were so yummy. Definitely recommend this place. Very speedy delivery too. Thumbs up from me. Thank you fro the delicious toasty.

A great find! My daughter enjoyed a macaroni cheese pie, and I enjoyed the croque Monsieur on a damp and dreary Sunday. Took pork & chorizo and pork & marmite sausage rolls home with us, again well tasty. Highly recommend!

Exceptional, exceptional sausage rolls in a range of epic flavours. Honestly, I don't get lyrical about baked goods as a rule but wow. We went back twice in 2 hours 😂 Advisory: on a diet? Avoid. They do have a salad, and it's absolutely delicious, but it ain't diet food.

Weekend in Brighton and stumbled upon this shop nestled inbetween and aray of eateries in this very quaint sidewalk Not much space for eating outside. But managed to get a table. Food is just right fora snack. Very delicious and filling

The croque madam from The Croque Shop is the absolute best. I travel from Hertfordshire for them, and they are so worth the trip. Treat yourself and damn the calories...very filling, delicious and fantastic service too!

I used to work next door and have been sure to make the effort to go out of my way to get a toastie with my girlfriend from time to time, even since moving to Hove and changing job! They're really exceptional and I will continue to go back for as long as they stay open or as long as I live! Sausage rolls are also really great. Everything is of high quality all the way down to the friendly service. Price is very reasonable for such high quality food. If you're in the area I would highly recommend dropping by, and if you're not, well hop on your bike then! This one's well worth going out of your way for. Thanks guys, keep up the excellent work!

I had a realllllly good chorizo sausage roll, like really good. And a lovely flat white. Delicious. Staff were friendly too. Will definitely drop in again!

Perfect for a reasonably priced but substantial lunch, we came away with three different types of croque/toasted sandwiches plus a couple of very nice sausage rolls. I can only really comment on my standard croque monsieur which contained excellent ham and swathes of delicious melted cheese. We took them all down to the beach and I can let you know that the local seagulls loved them as well as we were absolute besieged by them and one of the blighters managed to nab some of mine straight out of my hand as I was protecting my grandson. My mouth is literally watering as I type this, they were that good and I’ll dash straight back there next time we visit Brighton.

I've lived in Brighton and worked in the town centre for nearly 20 years, and this place is by far, hands down, the best sandwich shop i've ever eaten at. They make fantastic sausage rolls with crazy variety of flavours, but in my opinion their grilled sandwiches are the highlight! They are truly exceptional, VERY generous portion sizes, very fresh ingredients, bursting with flavour. They look and taste as if NO corners were cut, and they literally jam pack those things with as much goodness as they can pack in haha. Excellent value for money and outstanding quality. My personal favourites are the philly cheese steak, madame croque and full English. But to be honest they are all great. No I don't work for them, no I don't get special discounts, no this isn't sponsored. They really are just that awesome!!

We were walking past and these interesting flavours caught our eye. Very tasty, something for everyone including veggie options. Great for a quick family lunch.

The maple, bacon and pork, as well as the ghost chilli (v hot) are must orders. We tried about five varieties over our week visit and they were all amazing. Easily the best sausage roll I have ever eaten. What an amazing little place and great value when you consider that one 2.45 roll was more than enough for my lunch! Great coffee too. Also it's next door to Ben's cookies.....

Grabbed a few sausage rolls while passing and my goodness, I’m glad we did! The pork & apple, pork, cheese & marmite and traditional pork were all absolutely incredible, easily the best I’ve even tasted and the gent who served us was lovely too!

Encore meilleur qu’à Paris (ou France si vous préférez).Ce lieu n’est pas affublé du tourisme qui nous gêne tant, c’est donc une adresse fortement conseillée si vous avez une petite faim. Had the Halloumi & Avovado and the wife had the brunch toastie. Both were out of this world so would totally recommend for a quick bite. The bread they use is really tasty

Good sausage roll but very rude owner. Very dissapointed as I liked to come just for the sausage rolls. Would spend £20+ each time I went in on various sausage rolls. The last time the owner was very rude and snobby. Won't be visiting again. Shame as the other staff are lovely but am not giving my money to someone who treats their customers like that, especially when they're spending so much money. I was only ever polite to the owner and their staff, yet the owner was very rude and arrogant. If this really was about "reciprocity" he wouldn't be so rude.

I wanted a quick snack on the go and just something to feel ‘sandwichy’ urge. It did the job and they made a lovely cheese and salad baguette. Overall the service is a little passive aggressive but the food is lovely and I enjoyed the seating areas outside.

The display in the window alone drew me in! Veggie roll with the chilli, quinoa and cheddar was delicious. I’d happily eat my way through their whole supply.

Everything in the shop is lovingly made.. The sandwich's are amazing and the sausage rolls are unbelievable. In particular the Caramelised onion on special days, is the tastiest thing I have ever eaten. The Dog rolls deserve a special shout out as they get me through the toughest of days. I literally go to this Shop everyday for something. Truely one of the best around.

Excellent food and value for money

Saw the sausage rolls in the window and just had to try. My partner had the pork and smoked applewood, I had the carrot & lentil and it was the tastiest I've ever had. Usually veggie versions are just pretty poor and bland but this was on another level. Wish this place was closer to home!

As self proclaimed Croque Monsieur aficionado, I'm often disappointed with a British equivalent. This was certainly not the case here! Top notch; great béchamel, good quality ham and bread and cooked to order in a tiny little shop which is crammed full of other delicious looking options too. I was greedy enough to have a BBQ pulled pork sausage roll for 'dessert'. Also delicious.

Primera vez en croque. No suele trabajar en Brighton, pero tuvo una reunión. Tropezamos en este lugar y me alegro mucho de haberlo hecho. Como gran fan de los toasties, tuvo el clásico monsieur. Trato absolutamente delicioso, indulgente del almuerzo. Muy bueno, servicio rápido, a un precio razonable. También tenía muchas alternativas caseras interesantes con opciones para vegetarianos. En serio, prueba este lugar, vale la pena.

A fantastic little takeaway shop selling delicious organic sausage rolls, pasties and other savoury pastries. Great for a snack or a light and quick lunch!

Pasé por aquí antes de visitar Brighton, pero nunca entré. Decidimos parar a almorzar después de ver los rollos de salchichas en la ventana. ¡Guauu! Fueron increibles Comí carne de cerdo, tocino y jarabe de arce, uno de mis compañeros, cerdo y queso ahumado Applewood. Ambos estaban deliciosos, la pastelería era estupenda y no estaban grasientos. También tomamos unos sándwiches que también fueron increíbles! ¡Recomendaría comprar algunos para llevar a casa para más tarde!

Ordered these through Deliveroo for the first time, easily the best croques I have ever tasted, everything was spot on, they had a delicious rustic smoky flavour, I will be ordering from them again very soon!

Have tried this place a few times as looks so nice from the outside and wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. However, sandwiches are thrown together without much care. Customer service brusque, shading into rude.

I had the chicken and chorizo parcel and it was very nice, full of flavour. They also have a good selection of vegetarian options too.

Wonderful sausage rolls here. My favourite was the ghost chili one, which was not overly hot but had just enough heat to let you know about it. They also sell some of these in the Barley Mow pub in Kemp Town.

I was introduced to the Croque shop by a colleague I was visiting while out for lunch. The food looked amazing and I was told it was so, upon seeing some great looking veggie options I ended up ordering 2 of everything to take home to the family. The service was excellent, the even marked on the lid which rolls were what and how to heat them up for dinner.

Amazed by both the marmite sausage roll and the croque monsieur, hot and quick! Staff were also lovely, great quick bite, highly recommend for lunch on the go.

Great place for a quick bite to eat. We were drawn in by the amazing display of sausage rolls in the window. Marmite, cheese and sausage roll was amazing and my girlfriend had sausage and apple one. Both were delicious and were wolfed down sat by the sea!

Been wanting to try a sausage roll from here for a while now as I’ve passed the place on numerous occasions and salivated at the big, chunky and fresh artisan sausage rolls.

THE SAUSAGE ROLL! Top notch fayre. Personal favourites are plain or with mustard /marmite. And the ghist chilli but its always sold out.

Have my lunch everyday, halloumi and avocado toastie is my favourite.
