Had Sunday lunch. Enjoyed it and reasonably priced. Option to add extra sides at a price if needed, but plenty of food already on the plate. Lovely old building and great staff.

Looks lovely but is currently closed due to a vehicle accident with the pub 31st Oct 2023. Suggest ringing to check before travelling to it.

We loved this place, four related families from different directions for a great family reunion. The food was delightfully homemade with fresh ingedients. Free garden was wonderful with a great play area for the children.

Popped in for a Sunday lunch earlier this month as we were driving past, and it was divine! Thoroughly recommended!

We attended one of the classic car evening events on 27th July. It was a great family evening out with food and music available in the beer garden. We would visit regularly if we lived locally.

Great pub, great landlord, great beer what more can I say. There is a classic car show every Tuesday evening, weather permitting.

Brilliant Sunday lunch...you need to book!

Me and my motorcycling mate have really enjoyed coming here again throughout the last few weeks , especially when they have a mid week absolutely delicious roast lunch which is always cooked to perfection. Staff here are welcoming, professional and down to earth. There is such a nice feeling about this place which is popular amongst both locals and visitors. The selection of spirits and meals is impressive and with a huge relaxing garden outside area, you can relax chilling out with family or friends quite easily.

Excellent, warm welcome. Food tasty, we enjoyed the half price meals too.

Flat lemonade out of a bottle. Replaced without fuss but it shouldn't have been served. No table service even in covid times perhaps this is a staffing issue but it seemed unusual to have to order at the bar and then collect your own food. Food was just ok not massively cheap for a pub of that type. No first aid kit available. Setting was pleasant. Big car park. Lots of tables with parasols.

Went to the crooked billet on Saturday as I had heard it was open, we had a very warm welcome Form the landlady & staff, They explained everything well & there were signs everywhere to help us, you went in through the front entrance & out at the side door, ( they have worked hard to make it safe for there customer ) We will be going back on Friday for lunch, as they are starting serving food as from Thursday lunchtime, the landlady ( Julie I think her name was ) Said it will be a limited menu to start with hot & cold snacks.Well done to all at the crooked Billet for making you customers feel welcome & safe in these tough times

Absolutely superb. From the welcome to the speed of the service, everything was just spot on. The pie of the day was a shortcrust pastry with lashings of tasty gravy and excellent hot and crisp chips.

Had a great Sunday roast here. Staff were great, food was really nice and the price was pretty reasonable. Liked that the veg was served in a separate dish to the meat, roast potatoes and Yorkshire. Also pleased with the massive pot of tea we were served. Would definitely recommend this place 😁👍

We love this pub, we have just moved to the area and it is friendly, welcoming, great for kids, serves THE MOST AMAZING SUNDAY LUNCH, along with a wide ranging menu beyond that, a fab selection of real ales and the desserts are beyond belief. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Really beautiful old school pub!! Great beer and cheaper than many places. Massive garden with kids adventure play area. Loads of seating. Dogs welcome too. Very friendly atmosphere. Great looking menu..... And proper log fire! Lovely :-)

Visited with a walking group - total of ten people. We were told we didn't need to pre-order our food so were a little worried about how things would turn out. My word, we needn't have worried. We were greeted by really friendly and efficient staff (and locals), ordered our drinks and food and sat down prepared to wait for our meals. The food appeared as if by magic in double quick time - what an efficient kitchen! Exactly how a top class village pub should be run - thank you.

The Crooked Billet is a very friendly traditional local village pub. It also does excellent food including a range of home made specials which always seem to include a pie of the day and a roast of the day.We visited on a weekday lunchtime when it was busy with locals and walkers.The home made steak and kidney pie with a suet crust and excellent gravy is a lovely thing and a huge portion. There are good options for vegetarians as well - the halloumi baguette received good reviews. Excellent chips to accompany.Also enjoyed the well kept real aleA good choice for a proper pub with good food and atmosphere

Lovely lunch today,lovely atmosphere...food great..3 had Asparagus and Stilton quiche and salad,1 had Homecooked ham platter.Superb....Followed by 1 Ginger sponge and custard and I Rhubarb crumble and custard...lovely.Great selection of beers and sat in the garden for a post lunch drink and tea.Thank you Julie and Wally,bar staff and kitchen staff.Great to see the only pub left in the village so busy...well done...

What a great find, was having lunch with friends, was greeted by friendly staff ( even the locals said hello ) great choice of snacks & mains, home made stew & dumplings was very tasty, the suet top pie look very good too, generous portions size, the service was very good, there was a great atmosphere. Looking forward to the next visit.

Visited as a foursome yesterday lunchtime. Such a lovely warm welcome and a great atmosphere. Fish and chips were superb and a good pint of beer too. Outstanding village pub.

We chose this venue based on trip advisor reviews and as a halfway point meeting with some friends, and are very glad we did. This is the epitome of a cracking free house pub and long may they survive.Pros: The pub is cosy and well laid out with different areas and rooms, all with a traditional spit and sawdust pub atmosphere. There is also ample parking at the back of the pub.The menu is large and varied, with good mains and baguette choices and some delicious sounding puddings too. The specials board offered good variety and a vegetarian option as well. We were greeted warmly and pleasantly and the service was excellent. The mouth watering home- cooked ham came with two fried eggs; one of us had the squash vegetarian bake - both came with the fattest chunky chips - the best chips we have had in a long time. Followed by a large portion of chocolate fudge pudding with two scoops of ice cream. Prices are pretty reasonable too.ConsCan't really find any - although if we were being really picky we suppose the fire/stove could have been lit! But as it was quite a mild day and there is a table near it, we'll excuse that!All in all, can't fault this place and it's a pity it's not our local. If you are looking for a cosy traditional pub in the area or even just somewhere to meet up, we can highly recommend the Crooked Billet at Colney Heath.

Great food, all proper home cooked grub. 3 ales all of which are always in great condition. Nice garden with climbing frame and swing for kids. I should remove a star for the Arsenal memorabilia, but I'll let it slide this once.

Very friendly pub, quaint is accurate for those who like such things. Great selection of drinks and the food certainly looks good though I haven't ever tried it. Beer garden quiet and pleasant well away from the main road and sufficient shade on hot days.

One of the best pubs I've visited in Herts. Ales are always perfect and food is 2nd to none, particularly the Sunday lunch.

Sunday lunch are good portions. You won't leave hungry and the food is really well prepared. Would have given 6 star's.

We had been passed this pub for years and years and never entered it as wasn't aware there was a car park at the back of it. We had seen motor bikes parked out front on many occasions and assumed (wrongly) that this was a bikers pub and that was the only parking area.
