Thick batter and very stodgy. Happens most occasions I’ve been, so that will be the last time. When I phoned, I was asked to return it. Took a while to get an apology. The idea of getting back in the car to prove it is disappointing. I offered photos. Instead I’ll prove it on here! Turns out the hollow offer to resolve it is in actual fact an invite to be rude to your face. Be warned, they want you to come back in with your entire meal. They’ll then argue with you and be even ruder. Shouting untruths to your face. Apparently You need to request that the batter be cooked. Staggering behaviour. Avoid at all costs. I’ve never had worse fish and chips, or experienced such appalling customer service.

Beautiful MASSIVE fish. Was recommended this place after being disappointed at our usual place. Staff lovely and friendly, proper decent portion, cooked to perfection and their curry sauce doesn't have raisins in thank goodness! The fish didn't stick around long enough for a photo sorry. Beautiful.

Was doing a delivery today in the area of this shop stopped in before my 5+ hour drive home and I must say the man and lady behind the counter where lovely and the food amazing huge portion on the chips was well worth the money can not rate enough how tasty the chips where thank you so much if I’m in the area again will definitely go back

Absolutely gorgeous fish and chips, pleasant staff too

This is our regular chippy and it's always good value. The prices have recently risen slightly but I doubt you'll get more for your money at any chip shop anywhere else. The fish are always cooked fresh, never left sitting under a heat lamp until a customer comes along. Good hearty chips and plenty of them too. If you need any other hints it's a good place, at peak times there's always a queue but it's worth it

Good value for money as portion size is good. Best day to visit is a Friday as fish is well drained before you get it. Other times fish is served straight from fryer so can be greasy when you get it home. Update June 22..Prices have increased and portion size have reduced but still good value. Fish and Chips currently £7.60.

Was passing Winlaton yesterday lunchtime and called in here for a bite to eat, I noticed the lunchtime specials and ordered the kebab butty with chilli. On opening I was amazed by the portion size and the look of the quality. I’ve never tasted chilli sauce like this from a chippy, they’re usually bland red gloop but this was something else! It looks like it contained freshly cut green chillis and tasted superb. The kebab meat and chips were also superb. I’ll defiantly be trying with this again or the fish and chips the next time I pass after reading the other reviews.

Half decent chippy but when you go 20 minutes before closing you get told they’re no longer frying anything? So make sure you go a good hour before the closing time actually says.. ridiculous lost custom.

Good batter. Well cooked fish. Good chips. Good portion size. Best mushy peas I've had. Loses a star for only accepting cash. I didn't like using cash before the pandemic. I'm even more reluctant now.

Absolutely horrendous attitude from the woman behind the counter told her the order asked for no butter on the bun as I'm allergic to it was told the food was already done so had to take it then had to wait another 20 minutes for it certainly won't be going back

You have to wait a while to get service at the minute but worthwhile at the end very good..

Ordered a kebab and paid for seperate garlic sauce .... returned home only to discover it was chilli sauce...that's why gave 4 stars

The women behind the counter has a stocking attitude towards her customers. I would rather starve than frequent that establishment again. A Chippy to avoid.

Wow... these portions are so big, but so delicious as well... Highly recommended.

Lovely food however, hence the title “Don’t expect service with a smile” that’s exactly what to expect. Stood for five minutes without even being acknowledged then told abruptly they didn’t have what I wanted. Miserable service miserable owners. Their large food portions must be an attempt to make up for their terrible customer service. Disgusting attitude every single time I have been here.

Although they only except cash, their cod and haddock is known around the area head and shoulders above the rest.

Quick bite to eat, the food is spot on most of the time, and the portions are quite big. The staff are really friendly and like to have conversations while making your food. They do take breaks around the afternoon for a few hours, so just be aware of that before you drive down to order something.

Nice food but the lass who works there needs to put a smile on her face I've never met anyone so miserable in my life, she's the only thing that puts me off going in and she works all the time, I've never been in for about 2 year now because of her attitude and miserable face.

Omg fantastic Cod & Chips last night, huge Cod beautifully cooked, thick like a steak, lovely white and moist Cod. Thick, chunky chips, crispy on outside, fluffy in middle. So, so good and excellent value for money.

Asked for a kebab wrap n chips with garlic sauce. The wrap wasn't wrapped and the wrap was basically a plate for the soup of garlic sauce and the kebab was pilled up with no assembly. In conclusion , the seagulls enjoyed a calorific drink of garlic sauce and enough kebab to make them look like ostriches.
