Crewkerne Fish Bar in South Somerset

A lot of waste as chips not very nice ,dry ! Most of the food cold when we got home as not organised and a long wait … chicken awful !

Used to be lovely a while back, but recently the cod has been so thin! Around the same thickness as a piece of plaice! Chips are lovely though. Need to buy in better cuts of cod not the tail ends.

I can definitely say that this was the worst fish and chips I have received and I won't be going back. From the way it was portioned, not individual portions like others but all packed together so it fell apart when dishing up and very soggy batter which was unpalatable and chips that were undercooked also they had a bitter taste.

I ordered Haddock and it was lovely. I highly recommend this fish and chip shop.

The best local chip house in the area

Passing through the village unexpectedly and found this chippy. Fish was cooked perfectly and chips were great and staff friendly.

Went in for fish and chips on Saturday night was disgusted by the state of one of the staff members going by the name of smiler I believe, he was filthy, dirty nails and clearly had no personal hygiene routines a bath wouldn’t go a miss! Needless to say after seeing this guy I chose not to eat from there as I’m not keen on food poisoning!

Went in the other evening, was served by a disgusting, dirty man with revolting dirt under finger nails and generally looked like a tramp. Overheard other people's comments about him and how appalled they were with him - they called him Smiley or Smiler or something. Suggest management seriously talk to him before customers get food poisoning. Will never return.

Everything was fine but the only bad point was the chips tasted like lunchtime or night before chips not fresh, would I go again I would but I would go much later and see if the chips were freshly cooked if they are the same again I would not go back for a third time

Used to be the best fish and chips in Crewkerne but our recent visit after almost a year of not coming has changed my mind. The battered sausages could hardly be called battered. The batter mix was completely wrong, it was a pale sloppy mess on the sausage with no crunch. The chips were hardly touched by oil and curry sauce was only just warm. We go to Yeovil now as the drive is well worth the food from a chain fish & chip shop.

Large portion’s of chips and very friendly staff

I tried Crewkerne Fish bar for the first time this evening. When I arrived a chap was complaining that the chips and food he had received previously (night before) were less than satisfactory. During this exchange the staff were patient, polite and didn't charge him full price for his food. I thought that was quite decent as the story he told and his actions of returning to the same place so soon didn't quite add up. My experience was, that, the food was really good, even after a 20 minute drive home. The staff were great and I'd happily return again.

Called in late after travelling all day. The fish was cooked from fresh, the chips were gorgeous as was the curry sauce, and all at a very affordable price, lower than a lot of others I have used this year. My local chippy from now on.

Absolutely awful food. Chips are not even eatable. Fish isn’t great either. Straight in the bin as nobody could eat it. Used to enjoy food from there but has gone down the hill.

Have been using this place for years, never had a problem until recently, some weeks can't fault it, but then I end up with recooked chips. Am starting to think of using somewhere else for my weekly chip night.

Food is absolutely quality prices are reasonable and no oil dripping chips like in some places this will always be our go to chippy love the food highly recommend.

Normally food nice but today are large cod wasent so nice threw half away it didn't taste like cod and batter very soggy in middle shame

What an incredible place!!. I had a tiff with the missus, decided on a drive out. As a peace offering I thought I would get us a chippy as we haven't had one for years. Called into the Crewkerne Fish Bar as it was empty & was served by a fantastic bloke. Put it this way, I was so impressed with the service & the friendliness there is no way I would go anywhere else in the future. Thank you so much & very much appreciated what you gave us yesterday. First Time going here. Never again. Fancied fish and chips as we were on break and was gobsmacked at how much it cost!! £17.40 for 2 fish and chips with coke 2 bottles. Says on the board £4.80 for fish and chips my maths are right that's £9.60 for food so the coke cost me £7? Imagine my surprise at the price. Either the boards are correct... Or I've been ripped off. Chips were not that tasty fish ok but for that price. Never again am I going in there.

Food was OK, although chips were cold, lots of youngster's behind the counter including 1 very rude young lady taking the orders! The staff used to be very efficient and friendly so not sure what's happened. 😒😒😒

Well we bought large cod medium cod large chips and curry sauce with large peas. When got back chips were cold and burnt like been left. Curry sauce was actually gravy. Fish was very nice, but burnt chips didn't enjoy.

Great value for the price, generous portions, not greasy but not dry, fluffy but crunchy chips and made fresh to order so piping hot. Best chips ever!

Honestly what can I say...fish and chips where amazing as always!!! Every Friday we go there every Friday at around 1.00 fast service the staff there are extremely friendly!! And overall brilliant chip shop!!!

I rang an placed an order so I didn't wait around because I had to be in work, was told order number 8 around 15.min so waited around in the que for a further 10min after arriving and watched order number 9/10/11//12 come and go so what is the point in a number system or placing a phone order when you still have to wait behind people that have just Arrived and I only ordered chips and a beefburger or maybe that's why I wasn't being served becouse others was placing bigger orders ?

Normally they are very good !!fish lovely chips lovely , but last week chips tasted like they had been heated up , rubbery , cod was not cod , coley fish it tasty like , i had to through mine away , my parents did the same , funny thing is my parent had not known mine where not good , as i took mine back to yeovil to eat at home , i delivered to them in crewkerne , so until i said the next day they said the same , sad about this because my parrents have always enjoyed there cod and chips , may be they ran out and used up stuff they had , in that case you should be told and have a chose to purchase them or not !! The time was after 6.15 pm on friday ?

Not the best but pretty damn good. Fish was a little rubbery in places but otherwise very good.

Simply the best in town and the wider district ! Very efficient service just watching them preparing and serving is a pleasure and a lesson in hardwork amazing team and great value meals.Waiting time for non pre-ordered meals is very short due to the professional way every order is dealt with which is a shame I could watch them all day 😊

I been going to this fish and chip shop for sometime now but I have to say I will have to find another the last four times I have been which is weekly the cod dried up an could not eat it , what a waste off money so disappointed. The portion size is great tho.

Had Jumbo sausage and chips, the jumbo sausage was tasty, the chips,however, while you get lots, are so thin that theyre tough . Some are ok but most arent, either thin and tough or just bits . You get so many you can pick out some decent ones but thats not the point! Disappointing , when youre looking forward to it for your tea because youre hungry its a let down!

Have used this takeaway many times especially on busy Fridays. Never been disappointed. Very large chip portions and a well organised number system for busy times so no arguments about who is served first etc.

Lovely food, clean place but rude ignorant, judgmental staff. Made me feel very uncomfortable being in there. Will not be returning for that reason alone!!! Shame really.

I have just bought a large portion of chips from here on my way home from work,they were either reheated from lunchtime or kept holding too long,they were the thinnest chips ive ever seen,mainly bits and half were inedible,wont be using again.

Usually use Tuckers fish and chip shop who are absolutely delicious but thought we'd give Crewkerne Fish Bar ago,Oh dear big mistake ,Fish was 60% batter and swimming in grease, the chips were like a big clump of steamed mash potato all stuck together and as white as chalk, we ordered 4 fish and 3 chips and were charged nearly £30 when we questioned the price we were rudely informed if you order fish and chips they always serve large fish and large chips even if you don't ask for large which we didn't I'll never set foot in that place again.

I went in hoping for a nice portion of chips. But nope they cook everything together so no good for anyone who is vegetarian or gluten free.

Best fish and chips in the area. Over generous portions nearly all freshly cooked, hence you may need to wait for your food. Keenly priced never been disappointed.

We have found its the best in town , tasty and if anything too many chips , service good , can really recommend it

lunch time special jumbo sausage and chips £3 , so i ask for jumbo sausage and chips , when it came the lady asks for £3.30 ? i said no its £3 lunch time special , so she took it back and started to remove half the chips ? telling me you only get half the chips on a special ? i told her it does not say that on the sign , i only went there because of good reviews on here , but even the chips were not good ? has it changed hands ? i dont know but i will not be back
