Lovely relaxed restaurant, wonderful service, fantastic food. Cannot recommend this place highly enough

This was our 2nd time eating in the crab shack, we booked at the beginning of the week to ensure we got a table and took the kids for an experience and the food, the staff are lovely the food is awesome, lovely place to eat- however this time was a bit disappointing , asked for a beer of the menu, not available, no oysters, no mussels, no clams - completely understand seafood is all-seasonal so no drama, we opted to share a hot platter, (as this came with a whole lobster plus extras for only an extra £10 vs the cost of a lobster) and told they would swap the mussels and clams for extra something else as didn’t have these items. It came out with half a lobster plus the other bits promised we queried this we where told that sometimes the chef will give you a big half by weight rather than whole lobster - I have never heard of this and felt more upset we where then just being lied to - the table opposite also had ordered the lobster and they received whole one - so I guess this must have been a small one!? They also told us we are not really telling people to order the hot platter as we don’t have much of it - to which we replied this would have been nice to know when you took are order, they offered 20% off, which we agreed to even though being sat by a sign that said whole lobster £120 meaning a missing half should £60?! So I wanted to leave 2.5 stars, but don’t worry these are really big starts , like bright and weighty ones it’s basically a 5 star review?! Right?!

Just go. Enjoy this family deal with some of the nicest seafood I've ate. Unreal. Great wine too.

Delicious food and very attentive service. We stayed in the flat above a few years ago but just visited the restaurant this time. We had The Hake and mussels for main and faultless, great portion size. We booked ahead to secure a table a lovely intimate atmosphere with friendly staff.

Sadly quite underwhelming. We’ve eaten here quite a few times over the last 7 or 8 years. Clearly a new direction but it’s a no from us! The food was tasty enough and staff lovely…..but… I had the special monkfish dish. £40 for literally three mouthfuls. No veg so that was extra. My wife had crab curry again quite flavoursome but just somehow lacking for the market they are trying to be in and quite difficult to eat. Go back to fresh fish cooked how you like it….. chain restaurants like Rockfish are better. I hate leaving average reviews too.

We took our order card and paid individually. The chefs cooked Singapore Chilli Crab, Teign Mussels, Charred Monkfish, Sour Dough Battered Fish, Confit Duck Leg, Excellent food choices. The food and service were excellent!! Restaurant in a lovely location on the back beach and very small with only 6 tables. Food was very good if a little overpriced and quite small portions especially the scallops starter.

It was pouring with rain, we opened the door and was greeted with a warm smile and was shown to our table. I was given a beautiful red rose for Valentines Day. The menu looked very inviting but the special board took my eye. Cuttlefish Ramon and take it from me it was outstandingly delicious 😋. My husband had Ribeye Steak cooked to perfection as he likes it blue 😋. We were looked after by Karina. My choice for dessert was the cheese selection 😋 perfect. Hubby had pineapple carpaccio. What a wonderful way to celebrate the day. We would both very highly recommend a visit lunchtime or evening. 100% excellent 🌟 the right way

We happened upon the Crabshack on a Valentines away day to Teignmouth from Somerset and were so pleased to find a table available for lunch. We had great service from Karina and the seafoods ( scallops and mackerel starters and Singapore crab for mains ) we selected were amazing along with a bottle of Prosecco. Alex suggested we should not miss out on the Tiramisu for dessert so we shared one between us and it was perfect along with a double espresso to finish. Lovely chilled vibe in the restaurant with great music playlist and a complimentary rose for my wife just made it a perfect occasion

My wife and I went for our wedding anniversary. We wanted the hot platter which was shown on the menu for £130. It was meant to include a whole lobster and crab claws. The waitress told us that lobster was expensive so it would only be half a lobster. Then she said they had no crab claws and offered us two oysters instead. We ended up having this as we didn't fancy anything else on the menu. The fish of the day was cuttlefish. The only other alternative was hake. Not very good for a supposedly fish restaurant. Most disappointing and definitely wouldn't go again.

Amazing, superb highly recommended. Beautiful food, we were served by manager Paul and Maddie and head chef Ash. Lovely experience!

Four of us had delicious seafood. The Singapore crab was lovely, mussels amazing and hake very, very good. The staff were very attentive. Will come again.

What a lovely way to spend an afternoon, lovely, clean surroundings, pleasant staff, we share several delicious fish starters then both had a very large portion of freshly cooked mussels. All washed down with a Prosecco in the pink cocktail. Will be recommending Crab Shack to everyone who comes to Devon xxx

We’ve eaten at The Crab Shack several times and the food/service is always excellent. Our last visit was on a cold February evening. We were the only people there but we were made very welcome by our waiter Paul and the food, cooked by Ash, was exquisite. Will definitely be back again son.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch here today, we had the Cid from the specials board and can recommend the Chardonnay to go with it We also loved the new refurb very stylish

My wife and I called in for lunch on spec on our first visit to Teignmouth. What a find! We both had hake, which was delicious in a creamy white wine sauce. The manager and waiter were friendly without being pushy, and the service was faultless. The restaurant itself is a good size, quite small but not cramped. It has a pleasant, bright feel to it, with the River Teign in the background. We'll definitely go again. I'm guessing it would be a good idea to book next time. There were a few reserved tables when we turned up.

Lovely decor, beautiful interior, cosy, intimate, tasty food but…. I counted literally 9 chips in my little portion of chips basket and the piece of fish was very small, all for £24. If you have a big belly you will need to spend a lot. £17 for scallops as a starter. Quite extortionate prices compared to other local fish places. This was the cheapest main I think. Fish of the day £45. Rockfish serve their catch of the day for half the price and it’s also fresh with unlimited fries. Our budget was about £40 a head but it was more than than with wine, so not enough for starter. I personally found the waitress quite irritatingly helpful / nice. I like good service but found it a bit much and intrusive. We were finishing our meal and close to paying, and she came and poured more wine into my class without asking if I wanted more. Kept coming to the table with the British service industry smile. Kept asking if everything was ok. Very present/available. Hey, maybe some people’s ideal service! It might have been because there was hardly anyone in there. 😃

I made a booking which I sadly had to cancel. The made the cancellation 4 weeks before we were due to visit but £20 has been taken out of my account. I have emailed and called serval times to get a refund but no response!!!

I was here to look at the menu for my group. I had the hack and it was delicious. Small restaurant near the sea. I am going to have singapore chilli crab when I return in February 2024 with some friends. Quiet nice atmosphere.

We have regularly eaten at the Crab Shack, but this time very disappointed with the new menu. We enjoy seafood and want to taste the delicate flavour, however this time, the flavour of the fish was ruined by over spiced sauces. Hopefully the menu will change back to a more traditional seafood or they will add the sauce on the side so you can decide for yourself.

This venue is way over priced for what you get. You are only paying for the location. We had the special main for the day and was £30 for a piece of baked cod on cold cuscus with a bit of tomato. The service was poor and we felt rushed. They served us two pre dinner cocktails then brought out our starters! We didn’t have time to finish the pre drink.

OK so it's not cheap but eating here was the most fun we have had eating out in the UK for a long time!

Overall you are you paying for the location. Everything is too over priced. For example, the main / special was £30 for fish on a bed of cold cuscus. It stated, with sun-dried, tomatoes and feta cheese but hardly any of it. See pic The service felt too rushed.. Absolutely amazing. Expensive but worth it

Crab Shack couldn't have been more accommodating with a table for 10 booked but everybody arriving at differentnt times they were completely unflustered and made extra effort to accomdate us. Sea food bisque was totally delicious - Royale platter was amazing and enough for five - cockle popcorn and sapphire was really tasty - cheeseboard hit the button and sorbets disappeared in seconds. Free prosecco for our anniversary made sure this evening was going to be more than successful. Full marks!

Went for my husband birthday meal, both food and service were excellent. These guys really know how to treat gorgeous seafood produce! We ate late so the restaurant was quieter which is the only reason for rating atmosphere 4 as it's beautifully done inside, really modern Mediterranean feel which compliments the menu and wine perfectly. Highly recommend.

To visit a restaurant 3 years on and for it to still be so very special, what a lovely meal with my newly wed wife, seafood platter, oysters, crab claws, the works, truly lovely and genuine staff, just brilliant... A hidden gem in Teignmouth right on the harbour, will be visiting again next time we come to Devon Thanks to all the staff.... including the chef 😆

We had a really tasty meal here - crab claws and crab shack bun, every mouthful full of flavour. It's not cheap but we felt it was worth it. We loved the atmosphere, service was great - welcoming, friendly, helpful. For us it was a faultless lunch. We parked across the river in Shaldon and took the £2 ferry over, then just a short walk to the Crab Shack. Well worth a visit.

Quite a biggie today - a place I have wanted to visit for some time… We headed to @crab_shack_teignmouth for the first time to celebrate Mr @devonfoodblogger’s birthday. Teignmouth is charming but it was quite tricky to park. It was a rainy Saturday but it didn’t dampen our spirits. Our booking was 12.15 and we were a few minutes late because of the parking situ. It’s right on the water’s edge. Great setting, and I can imagine if outside is operational, it’s even better. Small and cosy inside with nice clean loos and fast and friendly service. The team were so attentive. I think the manager’s name was George. I completely forgot the other two but they were all great! I had moules to start. A really generous portion and absolutely delicious sauce 😋 Others had prawns and tempura veg, popcorn cockles and lobster bisque. All truly tasty. Next up I had crab claws. They are always quite hard work but are worth they effort, which these totally were. Delicous and fresh, like all the food. Others had fish and chips (delicious batter and pea purée), and the hake from the specials board. Lots of shell bins and finger bowls provided and I said, service was charming. I really like this place! It’s a cool hangout that doesn’t come cheap but I think k the prices are justified. Simply great seafood 🦞 9/10 🦐🫶🏻

Don’t order crab they don’t know how to prepare it or serve it and it’s very over priced. Trendy expensive but not very organised empty tables but told a small kitchen but they didn’t look that busy. Overall would not go there again.

We booked the venue way in advance for my birthday but ended up indoors next to the toilets and kitchen on the hottest day. No option to move. The oysters were great large and fresh. The crab salad was lack lustre and did not taste...

Monkfish on Bombay potatoes in a madras sauce. It's one of the best meals I've ever had. The service was attentive, polite and efficient, whilst the food was another level. The ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely. Despite being a very small place, you don't feel crammed in or too close to any other customers, which only adds to the experience. A lovely range of wines and Super Bock beer, which is one of my favourites but rarely seen in the UK. A lovely cheeseboard for dessert topped off the night. An absolutely superb evening to celebrate popping the question to my girlfriend hours before on our weekend away in Devon. Can't wait to go back and enjoy their beautiful food once again. Due to the size of the restaurant I would highly recommend booking a table if you are interested in visiting.

A great lunch to celebrate our anniversary. We booked ahead (£20 holding charge) to secure a lovely table on the front porch of the restaurant so that our dog could join us. We arrived slightly late for our reservation and called ahead to let them know we were running a bit late. We ordered one hot seafood platter for one person, and one Le Fruits de Mer (cold seafood on ice) for one person. We weren't disappointed! We had a nice selection of fresh seafood and accompanying sauces for both platters. The staff were kind, friendly and attentive making sure we had an extra side table for additional space and clearing up shell buckets and replacing them with clean ones. They also kindly gave us two complimentary glasses of prosecco to celebrate the occasion. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, the music and chilled seaside vibes were just what we wanted to enjoy our lunch and they didn't rush us out even though we stayed past our allocated seating time. Highly recommended if you're looking for the option for both cold and hot seafood platters and well worth the trip for us from Plymouth where we were staying.

Great location and good, fresh locally sourced seafood food but need to train and organise their waiting staff a bit better. I did plenty of waitressing when I was young and remember being allocated a number of tables to look after. There didn't seem to be that system in place, we were asked if we were ready to order twice by two different members of staff (after we ordered) but there was no one checking in if everything was ok when we did in fact need some attention. Giving a bit of water and lemon to clean the hands after eating mussels is a good idea but please provide either an extra napkin or paper towel. We got asked if everything was ok after we finished... Getting a bill took a while and we assumed it must have been very busy and, as usual these days, not enough staff. We waited so long to pay, our parking ran out of time and I hurried back to the car to avoid a penalty. My partner sat outside for another ten minutes politely waiting for that bill and then decided to pop in to see if he could pay as we really needed to go. Most customers were sat eating outside and we assumed that there were only three waiters on duty rushed off their feet working all the tables... To my partner's surprise, when he came in to try and pay, he saw three more waiters just standing inside an empty restaurant seemingly doing nothing... I hope this review helps distribute waiting staff better in the busiest areas. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and this would have been a lovely meal if the service was organised differently.

Outstanding service - we changed our booking from early evening and they couldn’t have been more accommodating! The sharing platter was amazing ( You need to be seriously hungry if you’re a couple!!) Great ambience- highly recommend!!

Would be great if more sea food was in the dish instead of pasta if ordering the Tagliatelle. Starter of scallops was also rather expensive at £16 for 3 small scallops and not a lot of effort.

Luke is the best he's so good so efficient on ordering, only asking when he knew we were ready. So good, so kind and would definitely come again but only because of him. So worthy of 5 stars omg the food was also amazing

It was a wonderful meal. It was fun, the food was delicious. We had made a reservation and were then, to our great astonishment, escorted out because the next guests had reserved a table and our “time was up,” so to speak. That was disappointing and ruined our evening. A pity.

Not as good as last summer! Bring back the chef! Disappointing as food is ok as in mediocre not spectacular and not worth the prices charged. Wouldn’t visit again having visited twice recently & couldn’t recommend.
