We are very lucky to have a fantastic chippy in the area. They have plenty of options, including vegetarian and gluten free options which are just at the same high quality as their fish.

Poor service, delivery was late, partner type 2 diabetic. Order placed 1.5hrs before delivery slot.

Really disappointing.... not a patch on our last takeaway from Cox's! Such a shame as I remember them as one of the best. Confusion with order in person then everything was wrapped individually and excessively which makes it a nuisance if eating in the car, used to come in nice boxes with a slice of lemon which was missing. Fish was greasy and not fresh, anemic chips bad quality and undercooked. Peas were bitter and all left a bad taste, curry sauce was good.

Good traditional fish and chip shop. Friendly, helpful staff. My only criticism is that the external signage is not easy to see at night.

We had a huge order for a special family evening and all I can say is 'wow'. Everything was so tasty, hot and prepared on time. I was a bit worried as it was a big order that something would be missed but no, it was spot on.

The Halloumi was better than our last visit - I asked for double batter and this time this made it much better. The chips were tastier and more freshly cooked. My husbands fish was crispier and better cooked too. So overall an improvement over our last visit n February. Still not up to Mcks standard but improving. Well done for listening - Will try again.

Disappointing.. the staff were all friendly so no complaints there but the food and the packing of our order let it down :-( The ‘large’ Rock was pricey, not that large and it was really overdone as was my cod. I couldn’t even cut into my batter at the end of the piece! The chips were soggy and had stuck to the bottom of the carton so when you peeled one off the paper from the box came with it. We ordered 2 mushy peas and a curry sauce but only got 1 mushy peas in our order. I had to call and get a refund for them which was done straightaway to be fair but was disappointed not to have them. Was annoying though as they actually took a photo of my order from my phone as the online ordering system was down! If we had been in a restaurant we would have sent it back.

Very disappointed. Anaemic poor quality chips and overcooked, very greasy fish. Not exactly large as we had ordered. Shame as had always found it good quality.

Delicious! Not a long wait for food

This was second time we had food from here, you do not get value for money food was cold and dripping with grease the cod looks like it been cooked twice. Stay way

The gluten-free haddock and chips was the best I’ve had in I dont know how long. This was a takeaway that I collected and after the 30 mins it took me to get home and sit down with it, I was very pleasantly surprised to find the fish still very hot and the batter lovely and crispy. The chips were great too, not ‘blond’ like a lot of places seem to do. There’s 3 chip shops a little nearer to me, but id go back to this one over them for sure. Lovely staff too!

I like their chips and fish. Always on the ball regarding covid19 safety Now been taken over and gone downhill somewhat. Kids running the shop now. Closes up earlier than advertised

When Mick ran this fish and chip shop everything was great. We have seen things go downhill over the last year. Yesterday our food was the worse we had ever experienced very little batter on the Halloumi and over cooked fish again with little batter. The chips were soggy. We regret we now won’t be back unless someone tells us it’s improved.

Ordered on line for collection , selected time slot , order was ready on time . Great quality food , hot and fresh and gluten free , meal enjoyed by all . Best fish and chips for years ……..

Waited 15mins for fresh cooked haddock at £10.50 got home and it was a sausage with chips. Twice now, they never look like they know what is going on. Bring back the old guy that set it up. Won’t see me anymore, traditional fish and chips is down the road and their fish is way better. chips are about the same

Wow wow wow is all we can say. My wife hasn’t been able to have a fish and chips since 2019 when she was diagnosed as a celiac. And not only is it amazing tasting but one of the best fish and chips I have ever had. So fresh tasting. The batter is so crispy (how do you do it) Beautifully wrapped and presented. Catherine your amazing thank you so much. We will be back for sure very soon. We have to support brilliant businesses like this that just go that extra mile as we are being taken over by big chains that really don’t care about there customers it’s just all about churning it out as fast as possible with no real care. Thank you thank you thank you :-) can’t recommend enough.

Ordered a £50 order online around a week ago after having some brilliant meals in the past from this takeaway. Sadly on the day I was looking to show off a great British institution to visiting overseas relatives, this occasion was woefully bad and embarrassed me. One o f my guests had a Peanut Butter sandwich instead! Dry tail end of fish that had batter that was so stale and crunchy (in a bad way), that it must have been cooked WAY before my allocated collection time. It was sitting all bagged up on top of the fryer unit when I arrived. I emailed the owner on the day but sadly at the time of writing this review (over a week later), I have not even recieved a courtesy reply. This has seriously damaged the reputation of this place in my eyes.

We were having a family gathering and needed a gluten free delivery service peak time Friday evening. We phoned our enquiry on Thursday evening to see if we could be catered for and placed an order at 3pm Friday. The delivery at 6pm to Buckden was on time, even with road works and busy A1. The food was excellent, I actually thought the medium fish were for two and realised my mistake when I had so much left over😂 2nds all round! Curry sauce delist and everything well wrapped and still hot. Will be using your services again, thank you😉

Such a shame ! Used to be so good. Easily the best chips in st neots , just bang average at best. The high rating doesn't reflect the fish and chips now . this is my experience from the last 2 visits . I hope they can pull it back as was 5*

Very disappointing - the customer service was poor, the quality of the fish and chips was poor and I will not be returning ever again. Poor value for money - the batter was mostly soggy, I paid for a large haddock but no way was it large. They advertise a smaller size haddock but was told in a very dismissive manner they have never served anything other than a large haddock! The previous owners did and the price board says they do! The icing on the cake was that the chips were dry. It’s a shame, when Mick was there it was the best in the area by far, sadly now probably the worst.

After being a regular customer for a long time we had a few bad orders at the start of the year, in April items were missing, it was late, soggy batter, chewy chips and covered in grease so I emailed the contact on the order confirmation but noone replied, I wasnt even requesting anyone to bring the missing items or a refund, it was purely feedback. After this we stopped using them, until last night, we thought that maybe is was a bad period so we tried again. The order was 1 hour after our time slot given online, we understand these things happen but just to be informed it would be late or a simple apology when it was delivered would have sufficed, instead nothing. The cod was wrapped in grease soaked paper, I could have wrung it out. The cod batter was chewy and the chips were cold and hard and tasted like they were lunch time leftovers. I would have written to the email address but noone seems to reply unless feedback is public. It is such a shame, I used to rave and recommend this place to anyone but it is not the same, cost gone up quality gone down.

Favourable articles have appeared in the local media regarding this chippie and as we hadn't bought any fish and chips locally since before the first lock-down we decided to give this one a try. We hadn't visited them before. Service was very quick and portions were large. We dished up our dinners and sat down to eat them. Nothing wrong with the chips but the fish was a little dry. But then we come to the batter, which has to be the worst batter I have ever had. It was hard and the grease tasted strange. I couldn't stomach much of it so I removed the fish and just ate that. It also left a horrible aftertaste. During the night I awoke at 0115 with terrible indigestion and still had the aftertaste from the batter. I had to have some indigestion tablets and it took ages to get back to sleep. They always say not to rely on everything you read in the papers and that is very true in this case. We had high hopes until we started eating but our satisfaction soon ended. Won't be back.

Having read the reviews, I expected great food, but was sadly left disappointed. The cod was ok, but the chips were quite possibly the worst I’ve ever eaten- dried out and rubbery. I won’t be back, unfortunately..

Ordered large cod was served two pieces that not a problem but one was so greasy it totally soaked the papers it was wrapped in and the other piece was so hard and over cooked it was inedible. I was sure it had been rewarmed from the previous day. The chips were the same few were soft enough to eat and were barely warm. Not sure how you get chips so chewy unless cooked up again. Added to two battered sausages my meal cost £13.20 What a waste of money. Such a shame as food had always been good from here before. I called to complain and was told well what do you want me to do about it. Great customer service I don't think!!

Have had food from here before and it had always been great. Unfortunately things seem to have gone down hill.... The Quorn burger was dry, chewy and tasteless. The chips were far from what they used to be. On the whole the meal was dry, tasteless, and unappetising. And for what it cost, it definitely wasn't worth it. Very disappointing

So disappointing. Stopped here for a quick afternoon snack, 2 savaloys and 2 chips was £8.90, expensive and food was abysmal. Savaloy was dry and hard/burnt coating. Completely bland and flavourless and chips were so dry and hard and were white? Will never go here again! Avoid!!!

Update Today we decided to get cod and chips early at 4pm. Unfortunately we were really disappointed, the cod was supposed to be large, but was tiny and the chips had been cooked a long time and refried, they were hard and dry. ☹️ I left a review, but it has disappeared. 🤔 Excellent app which is very easy to use, friendly efficient service, fabulously clean shop and most importantly of all the food has been consistently delicious and not at all greasy. We have just moved to the area and after trying all the local fish and chip shops this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. This is now our regular chippy and has been delicious every time.

I am not sure why I keep preordering when the wait is as long as if I had just come into the shop.They need a better system!

Great service! Would 100% recommend. Very friendly staff. I ordered online and they called me within minutes to advise they have run out of part of our order (saveloy) and asked if we were happy with a replacement. When we picked up our ordered they also adding a little extra in for the inconvenience . Food was lovely and not greasy! Would certainly use again!

Visited 28/12/21. Waited 30 mins for one large piece of plaice. One poor guy had been waiting 45 mins for a pre order. Still there when I left. Was not worth the wait. Shame service is really slow. They sadly do not seem to get food out in a reasonable time frame. No lemon offered anymore, understand they have recently changed ownership. Picture showing large plaice after batter removed.

cod was cold. chips were cold. batter was damp and soggy, the service is a shambles. I don't know what has happened here, 6 months ago it was banging, best in St Neots!

Would have got a much higher rating had the chips been hot,but they weren't,they were almost cold. Very disappointed. The fish was nice and hot though thank god!!

Website and ordering is easy to use, food was delivered on time. Chips and cod were absolutely amazing! The curry sauce is out of this world and the mushy peas were epic. My only gripe… no option to order saveloy on the website! But; quality of meal and standard of service second to none and so wasn’t an issue! Thank you! We will be back xx

We ordered 5 portions of cod & chips and we were all very disappointed especially having read the previous reviews. Maybe just a bad day but we won’t bother again.

First time visit last night and the food was awesome, and my fist time in years having fish from a chippy visit. The slab of cod did not disappoint. Food was amazing,all cooked fresh and very friendly polite staff 👌 will be visiting again soon

We struggled to find a Fish & Chip shop in Cambridgeshire that was both vegan and good, but that’s exactly what Cox at the lighthouse achieves.

Fresh, Fresh, Fresh and I like the way they do the saveloy's. Not limp like other chippies, but with a cooked skin that you have to bite into. Jumbo sausages are always good.

Absolutely delicious fish and chips. The fish is white and chunky. We ordered regular skinless/boneless cod and it was huge! Great service. We have been using Coxs for over a year now and have always been pleased with the food. Would definitely recommend.

Brilliant food! I've never been dissapointed by the food at Cox's. It's not greasy, it's well priced, and there's lots of choice. Not only that, but they really care about their customers. There's always information about the products they are using, and explanations for the decisions they have made. In addition to this, they care deeply about our community, getting involved and trying to help out where ever they can. Keep it up guys!

I’d read lots about this place on Facebook. It was all good. I thought I’d try it out. I was not disappointed. The gluten free option was very tasty. It was fresh. The portions are decent. My 4 instead of 5 was that it wasn’t piping hot and I wanted a bit more moist fish.

What a shame. I wanted to support a local chippy during what must me a hard time for them. I normally go to Sea Shell in St Neots and I wished I had not tried another. I ordered at 5.40pm online and it said it was a 2 hour wait which was fine by me. However at 8.15pm it had not arrived so I called to cancel. The owner yelled at me that it’s ‘Good Friday’ and we are busy. So busy he said ‘I don’t care if you leave a bad review’. Since when was it acceptable to be rude, give poor service and not care, even if it was Good Friday. He never once apologised and refused to refund me. Some business obviously so busy during Covid they can tell punters to go away, they don’t care. 😞😞 To top it all when it did arrive at 8.25pm the food was poor. Over cooked and greasy fish and made me feel sick 😷

OMG / appalling service and soooo rude. I ordered at 5.45 and the order turned up at 8.15pm. The owner said he was busy, so he didn’t care. In his words ‘I don’t care if you leave a bad review, we are so busy it’s doesn’t matter’ And to top it all, the fish was over cooked, greasy and made me feel sick. I think the fish had tape worms

Sooo disappointed with my cod and chips tonight. To be fair I haven't ordered a takeaway from here for a while now and was looking forward to the chunky white flakes of fish that you normally get from this establishment. Unfortunately it wasn't to be. The fish was sparse and covered in greasy batter and the chips were overdone, on the border of burnt but not quite. Such a shame because this was the best chippy for miles around at one time. Maybe....... Hopefully this is a one off, but I am a bit dubious of going back.

First time having fish and chips from Cox's. Very impressive, I always order battered plaice from other establishments. They usually are thin, not alot of fish and greasy. Cox's plaice is a wow factor, plenty of fish, lovely crispy batter, lovely seasoning. You want good quality fish, order from Cox's.

Ordered at 5pm for delivery at 730pm. After phoning to chase a rude man stated that "it was Friday what did we expect they were very busy"We finally received our food at 810. The driver wasn't very apologetic had a smug look on his face.Fish was OK, chips undercooked. Overall not worth the wait and won't be using this chip shop again.

Quick service, well cooked, at a good price

First time in a long time that we had some fish and chips and it was fantastic. Generous portions, superb quality and super-friendly service. We ordered in advance online, which was a breeze (excuse the lighthouse pun) and we are definitely rowing out for another catch soon (excuse the fishing pun)

Been having a few delivered takeaways from Cox's over the last few months with my wife and my elderly dad. Always delivered on time from a happy delivery driver. Delicious cod and chips everytime and a generous portion. Cannot recommend highly enough. Super tasty, cooked to perfection and delivered to my door...brilliant!! Keep it up.

Below Average fish the batter was too thick and heavy for my liking, i prefer it light and crispy, decent chips, nice curry sauce. I'm comparing it (maybe unfairly) to my local chippies back home in Yorkshire where I'm spoilt for quality.

The fish was delicious and worth the wait. My first visit ordered via phone. When I got there I was totally confused by a group of people outside and how they were being served...it did take some time however as said food was delicious and worth it but next time I will have a cardigan with me🤔

Great process in place for ordering with lockdown/social distancing measure in place and still great service! Completely contact free, all ordered and paid for online, arrived to collect (after notification to come and collect) and the team were just wrapping up our food.. fish was absolutely superb, pie was tasty and full of flavour and plenty of scampi, chips were great too, oh and everything was still piping hot when we got home!! Really good, thank you!
