Food, service and staff are great here, my husband and I ate here a couple of times and each time its been fantastic! Small plates are particularly nice. Planning to come back soon. Very friendly and welcoming, made us and our dog feel very welcome. Courtney and Sam were extremely helpful during our visit. Highly recommended.

Had a lovely lunch on Monday 18/03/24. The food was fantastic, good portion sizes (my step mum actually said her Katsu curry was too big a portion!). My father and I had Scampi, chips & peas which was beautiful. Much better than places like wetherspoons. The gentleman who served us was very friendly and polite. I will definitely be going back again!!!

Very friendly staff, wonderful food at a very good price. My wife, my dog and I all made to feel very welcome. We are in Peebles for a week and are in every night for a drink and/or food. Highly recommend it, especially after a day walking in the hills

Ate in the bar the food was delicious and good sized portions. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The prices were very good and will definitely come back. The chef is first class.

My friend and I recently turned 18 and went in here early one evening for a drink whilst she was visiting me at uni. Unfortunately we felt very upset throughout our time here, and ultimately only stayed for one drink. When we approached the bar we were instantly made to feel uncomfortable by what we both perceived was cold and rude behaviour from a young woman who seemed to be judging us and our intentions. Her attitude towards us was very different than towards other customers and didn't seem happy at all to be serving us. We both ordered a drink and both provided driving licence ID as expected - no problem. However, she turned to another customer/worker at the bar and seemed to whisper and mutter under her breath as well as rolling her eyes as we were still stood at the bar which I thought was very unprofessional. Throughout our time she kept looking across in our direction and seemed to chat to another member of staff who glanced at us, we later returned our glasses to the bar and left. I wanted to build up the confidence to ask if there was a problem on the way out, but I was too nervous and didn't want to make a scene. I am very aware as a young person myself about the issues of people these days having fake ID's or attempting to buy alcohol underage. However, my friend and I were very responsible and were judged from the moment we walked in. It took a lot of confidence for us both to go in in the first place and I felt like going up and showing pictures of my 18th birthday for proof and a second form of ID. It's such a shame as I had been into this place a few years back and enjoyed a meal with my grandparents who live locally, and we were very pleased the pub had a pool table. I know this is not a common complaint but I want to speak for myself and others who are made to feel this way. Not all teenagers are bad! We are just two young women finding our way through early adulthood and trying to enjoy being 18.

The County has a very relaxed feel about it. If I was to describe it, I'd say it was like a spoons but with atmosphere. We went after having golfed at Cardrona. We were looking for a spot of lunch. We ordered our drinks and after a look at the menu we tried to order food. Sadly, it was a 45 minute wait. We didn't want to wait that long, so we went elsewhere. Menu looked not bad and the small plates menu looked great, reasonably priced also but didn't get to see the size of the portions. Staff were friendly and I'm glad they let us know about the delay on food.

We arrived at a busy spell with only 1chef cooking but barstaff informed us of the wait. Food was great fish delicious and dog friendly..what's not to love 👍

Always a pleasant visit. Good staff, excellent beer. Sadly seems to have taken a downturn of late. A simple "we'll be with you in a moment" would be more welcoming when there's a queue at the bar, and perhaps some instruction in pouring of Guinness would be in order. I'm sure the lack of regular keg ales is down to the season so I'll forgive them that, though a friendly list of options might have alleviated the disappointment at the lack of a favourite tipple.

Lovely wee place. Warm, cosy, great food, and always good banter from the regulars.

My friend and I dropped in to The County for a light lunch and a cup of tea, both of which were really really good. Looking good in the interior of the bar, clean and inviting. I will be back with my wife for a drink and a meal....

Good place, good beer, worth a visit. Quiet at lunchtime which meant getting served quickly.

Lovely, clean and friendly staff. Bigger than it looks from the outside. Just went in for a drink to watch the Saturday football, loads of screens. Will be back.

I'd say the worst meal I've ever had. The decor needs updating seats heavily stained. 2 members of staff on but did their best and will never be back . Wouldn't rate it unless you want to be in for a very disappointing meal. You think with the constant bad reviews that things would improve and yet nothing changed. Foods def cooked from frozen. Burgers tough and the fish !! The batter was wet underneath !

Food is mediocre at best, staff and atmosphere are good. Always stop in for snacks/lunch when in peebles as dog friendly. The provide dog biscuits and water bowls.

Beautiful venue good food and service lovely xmas decorations. Let down was huge screen with football on and way to loud spoilt the Ambience.

Good service and beer but the burgers are the worst I can ever remember eating. Small, dry and cold. 6 of us had burgers and they were all the same so it's not just a one off. Think they cook them early and then keep them warm. Do not order a burger from here!

We went there to have lunch on Saturday after a walk in Peebles. Ordered our drinks which they brought and our food. After 20 min they brought us the starter and after having been waiting for an hour for our pies we asked them politely for a refund. They refund us the money we paid for the pies. They didn’t even mention it was gonna be that long to get the food so we could have chosen to stay or not. Really disappointing experience, we won’t come back.

Great hotel but food and drink haven’t been served since Covid.

I really liked this place. It had a great atmosphere with plenty of different seating arrangements which gave it an intimate feel .

Great staff, lovely food, great value

Very dog friendly, they even have treats and water at the door for them. Was here on a Saturday night, the music/TV wasn't too loud, people didn't have to shout to talk like in some places, was a nice atmosphere. Tables were clean when we sat down, chairs were comfy. Food was fresh, hot and tasty, portion size for me was a little small, but I guess with the cost of living this helps keep the prices reasonable. Staff were friendly and helpful too.

Great, cosy place for a pint when the weather is dire outside. My husband and I popped in and managed to get 2 very comfy seats at the front of the pub, which was great as it was away from the noisy sports tvs in the main bar. The staff were quick when serving, and the prices of the pints were fair. Would return again.

The best place I have been in ages, lovely staff we were served by reece he was very helpful. We also brought our little dog along too she felt very welcome. The food was great too!! We will be back

Will not be coming back, entered the establishment with a friend and a elderly lady with dementia. Bar staff, Tanya, watched on as we assisted our elderly companion into her seat and got comfortable. We then looked through menus and went to the bar to order to be told that the chef was on break. When asked when they would return was told 30 minutes and that she's sorry that people need to legally have a break. All of which would have been fine, if it was said genuinely, however, it was said sarcastically and with no genuine interest in our presence. Very upset about this as it meant helping our elderly friend outside into the rain yet again. No problem with having to wait but the manner in which we were all spoken to was unacceptable and made us feel very unwelcome it was genuinely very disappointing. Went over to greggs sat in, had very good food for cheap. I recommend people to do the same not worth being made to feel uncomfortable and an inconvenience.

Bar was dead upon entrance. Bar staff watched as i walked past with an old woman with dementia who doesnt walk well. Left us to look through menu. Obviously to much brain power needed for that. Staff are rude and to put it politely, completely useless. There are many other places in Peebles I would recommend.

Went for lunch on Sunday and seems that after all this time they are still terrible with food service, when we ordered we were told it would be a 30min or so wait however after sitting waiting for meals for 45 mins the server came up to say one of the meals we ordered was not available so they picked something else we then sat for a further 30 mins for the food to arrive. I don't think I've ever waited an hour and 30 mins for food in a pub. Judging by other reviews I don't think they care about improving this issue

Only real fault is the ridiculously expensive drinks

As part of a golfing trip, 8 of us went to The County on Monday evening for food (we go there each year). The place was empty, bar three other customers, and on arrival we were told the burgers and steaks were off the menu. When ordering we were then told that there were no Nachos, no Haggis fritters, no steak pie, no katsu curry, basically everything that we wanted. I'm afraid to say the lackadaisical attitude we got from the barmaid didn't inspire confidence, so we left. I appreciate the hospitality industry is being hit hard just now due to the cost of living crisis, but this experience was really disappointing as this pub used to be very busy and always served hearty "pub grub". We'll be back to Peebles for another golf trip next year but if this level of service continues, I have my doubts The County Hotel will still be trading.

Good Green King pub in the heart of Peebles. Inexpensive beer and food and lots of TVs for live sport. Staff were very friendly and efficient.

Despite all the specials included haggis my husband ordered the burger with haggis and was informed no haggis .tried to order and was told the machine was off. Wanted a vodka and you had run out .unbelievable all in all a disaster of a disaster .We like music but it was far too loud.sorry but we won't be back.have to add the waitress was very pleasant

The first time visiting The County, Peebles in a few months. I am very disappointed in the food that was served. We ordered Mac n Cheese and the fish and chips. Mac nd cheese was dry with no sauce at all. The fish was in aoggy batter. Would definitely say it wasn't freshly prepared. Need a new chef for sure.

Went for meal today with my dad - not only Was it reasonably priced, the service and food was excellent.

Lovely interior we really liked the atmosphere,a very polite young girl informed us to order our food at the bar which we did and it arrived about 20 minutes later. It was the tastiest gammon steak I had eaten out in some time it was very tender not one of those cheap tasteless ones. We would definitely go back next time we are in Peebles.

As soon as we arrived the staff was so very friendly, but once the food came we were very disapointed, we got mac and cheese for my son and it was very dry it could of done with a sauce he ate the garlic bread which he liked, i had a burger which was ok but as soon as i left the county hotel i feel sick and unwell. The staff was amazing just shame about your food.

Wow what an amazing welcome from truly genuine manager and bar man . Can not remember last time we had such attentive service. Beautiful place and food awesome ...great quality and huge portions. Terrible place to eat , the steak arrived completely cold and no salt at all , also all the dishes are very low standard, honestly , just a few drinks and nothing else in this place.

Lovely interior, staff were lovely and attentive. However the food side left a lot to be desired. Lots not on the menu - 3rd choice of starter before we could order, and 2nd choice of main for both me and my partner. I ended up with a baked potato and it was shocking - could hardly get the knife through the skin and it was tiny, no salad and barely lukewarm. Was not a great experience.

With what to start. Went there with my partner, after a long trip. We were looking for a restaurant with good food, asked around and someone told us about the place nearby. Went in, sat somewhere cause no welcoming. Decided what to order and went for the bar to order. Drinks and food. Ordered a rump steak which i was told they dont have, changed it with sirloin for myself and fish for my partner, 2 regular coke's and a coffe. I understood the fact that i had to wait a bit in front of the bar to order, but was instructed that the food will take 30 mins as it was busy( was not), anyway...to start off my coffe arrived which was slight brown in color more like a tea than coffe, asked for another as that was terrible...no trbl there as the waitress was kind to my request. After waiting for almost 30 mins the waitress came and told me they dont have that steak either. Changed my order for chicken. Took ages till it arrived, went to take a glass of wine ..had to wait again 5 min in front of the bar. Same waiting time for changing my coffe but nevermind that. Food came, srry to say but it was average in taste, less in presentation but ate it cause i was really hungry. After eating we sat there with the dishes in front of us till we left the location. What bothered me most was the fact that the price for a steak is obv higher than a chicken dish, the difference was around 3.5 pounds but no one came to give that amount or even ask if i want it back. Well anyway...i'm sorry honestly but as tourists we were disappointed. After all this i do want to mention to the owner that if you dont have enough staff on the floor maybe you should try to employ some, or reduce the coverage of the floor for a single person. You had one girl running around for 5 tables scattered everywhere in the venue, strugling to cover the floor, the bar, and all service, running food and drinks...i mean...no efficiency. Its ashame.

I visited this establishment with a couple friends and had a meal and a few drinks, we were met by the new managers Gina and Courtney who were incredible and couldn't have made us feel at easy and welcome! Amazing service girls keep it up! My friends and I will be back!

Service wasn't great, food took ages to turnaround from order. Below average food quality: steak tough and overcooked, chips not bad, salad terrible. Beer selection was a redeeming feature and the decor is nice.

If I could put no stars I would! Waited well over an hour and no food came despite promises several times that it was nearly ready! Only ordered fish and chips and a chicken burger meal! We gave up and got a refund. Terrible service avoid at all costs.

We visit Peebles regularly as my 84 year old mother lives in the area. We came up on Saturday 4th February for her birthday and mum asked to visit The County as hadn't eaten in there before. Arrived at 12pm, a few tables were taken but not too busy. We placed our very simple order of a chicken burger, one scampi and chips and a sharing platter. By 1pm still no sign of the food, went to ask, were told very sorry will be with you shortly, 1.15 sharing platter came out which was so anemic, looked inedible, no other food appeared. By 1.30 we had given up and asked for a refund. Birthday lunch absolutely ruined, would not recommend and will never go back

Just spent 2 days in Peebles and visited the county hotel on a couple of occasions including eating there. All I can say the pub is totally welcoming and the food was really good especially for the price I would totally recommend to anyone visiting Peebles

Went on here for lunch, I’ve got a portion of chips and a coffee Coffee was ok, but the chips was a child size potion served in a pie dish (unable to post pictures) so if you want food go elsewhere….. it’s dog friendly that’s why I gave it ⭐️ 🌟

Wont ever go back here!!! Visited Peebles with my partner and 4 boys. Walking along the high street and decided to take the kids in for a juice and watch the football. After sitting down we went to the bar to order some juices and were told that their license stated we had to have food to sit in and also there was a 30min wait! We decided to order a bowl of chips and were then told it had to be meals!!! We had to them leave. Shocking attitude towards customers and won't ever be back. Stay away if you decide to just pop in for a juice with the family.

Very good sports pub with large Tv's, good food and separate large and small seating areas. Good selection of food and drinks.

Guiness wasn't great but the lounge was fine.

Terrible experience, went in sat down, checked out menu, seemed very quiet, stood at bar for at least five mins to be told very busy and food would be at least an hour ! No apology and not really bothered about it ! Avoid ! Go to the Wetherspoons which is excellent (no dogs though).

Just beautiful our wee dog was welcome too they even had a dog station with water,bowls n treats for your furry friend the service was very good and food delicious 😋

Could give constructive pointers but why when the staff could not be bothered, quiet Monday night, poor service level and had to check 3 times with dishes from kitchen coming out in bits and peices to our table, just weird, no check on us and no acknowledment on departure whatsoever. First time users...step it up Greene King, even my children detected the poor service level, its not about the value for money food, its about the welcome, sadly will not be back.

Amazing food and excellent service.

I visited this and was told a 30-40 minute wait and ended up waiting 2 hours. Can’t say I’m impressed wouldn’t recommend for the service and the prices. Save your time and money and go to the greggs or the cafe across the road.

I you are looking for a quick pint this was not the pub to visit on Sunday 18th Sept, loved this pub but the lack of staff (I assume not there fault), meant an delay in getting serviced at the bar. Also 50 min wait for food! Hopefully next visit the staffing issues will be sorted

Great boozer. Was up visiting a mate for a few days. Great staff, good range of beers. Definitely recommend.

Order on the app, wait 25+mins and still nothing, ask the staff behind the bar and get the reply “I’ll get around to it”. Poor service and staff not bothered.

After coming home from my holiday I went to the County in Peebles. I ate an amazing burger and the place was simply awesome. Staff were ultra friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this pub / grill and I would have no hesitation in returning again and again.

I just want to thank the young Lassie Christina who just made my day with her service , her smile brightens your day , her politeness and manners are incredible, she is very calm and makes you feel like your the only person in the room , thank you for making my day ! Honestly thank you ! Good luck with the future, really hope you go far 🙃x
