The food was tasty and the wine also. Staff was also great but the portions were simply too small and too pricy. We left without being full even though we paid 70 £.

In a splendid and absolutely relaxing atmosphere, dishes that are nothing short of phenomenal are served. Absolutely competent and trained staff. Particular mention of the complete and truly exceptional GLUTEN FREE menu. Unmatched value for money. Highly recommended!

The food was good and the serving staff were lovely, however Côte ruined our event. In November 2023, we booked a birthday celebration for a 90th birthday in the private room. We visited in person and specified we needed it for at least 4 hours, from 4 pm until at least 8. We were told it would be very unusual for it to be booked twice in one day, so 4 hours was no problem. The confirmation received in November was non specific on time but my sister said she trusted the young man. On 16th Feb we delivered birthday cake and had another wee look at the room as we had some decorations. I also asked if the room had been booked out after us at 8pm, the girl looked and said no, I actually replied that’s great we can take our time. This was a surprise for a 90th birthday, family were gathering from York and London. When my mum walked in there was much joy and many tears. Imagine my horror when at 19:15 we were asked to finish up as we needed to vacate the table by 19:30. I actually went outside the curtain to speak to the manager asking us to leave and explaining we had booked the room until at least 8pm. She was absolutely not listening and actually said, most restaurants only give you a table for 2 hours! She just didn’t get that we had booked the private room for the event. We did leave, mainly because I didn’t want to embarrass my mother by making a big fuss. Out side waiting for a taxi my mum said,” that was lovely, why didn’t you book it for longer?” I told her I did, her reply , “what went wrong?” I wrote to Côte to ask that very question. According to the manager, the private room is only treated as a table on their system and can be booked on line at any time. It was booked at 10pm on the 16th and the booked was date stamped. I can assure you this just inflamed my anger. Also reservation times are 1 hour 30 for a table for 2 and 3 hours for a table for 6 or more. So basically we were seriously misled at our original booking. We absolutely would not have booked this place for our very special event. They need to review how they portray the private room on their website, it is seriously misleading. They obviously also need to educate their team who deal with customers. The manager in his response said he had reviewed the management systems to prevent this happening again and admitted there was nothing he could do to rectify what happened but offered us a voucher. I accepted this offer, I thought my mum could take a friend, I actually didn’t think it would come, based on what appeared to be chaotic systems in place. After more than four weeks, it still hasn’t arrived. In essence the food here is good but do not trust their word on anything, they could ruin your special event too.

My partner and I came here last night for a wee date night together. We were sat upstairs and had a wonderful evening. Delicious food, staff were amazing and very friendly. Will be coming back very soon!

It was my Mum’s 93rd birthday, the first since losing my Dad at Christmas after 70 years of marriage. We’d had a particularly rough/ emotional day and really just wanted a lovely meal and to be looked after, both feeling quite wiped out, and the team were a dream! Without knowing our circumstances, they were all just amazing and turned a crappy day into a great day. Thank you all so much. Go for breakfast, portion is so small and avocado is not even smashed properly. Latte tastes like instant coffee. It's not only about the food portion, more disappointed on the standard and quality of this restaurant.

2 couples on hols, we stopped here for breakfast, i had the French toast with bacon and maple syrup, absolutely delicious, husband had a fry, we are all still talking about the gorgeous black pudding he had, everything cooked perfectly. Lovely coffee. Quick service, friendly staff and central location in Edinburgh new town.

Dreadful, new chefs who can’t cook nor know their menu! Crab starter was watery and not the same quality as it used to be. Breton fish stew was not a stew, hardly any sauce and served cool, sent back and the same dish came back and just as cool, awful. Changed to French onion soup and it was congealed onions, again awful. Server Philip was amazing and a real credit to Cote, just as well!!

Must be one of the worst main meals I and my friends have ever eaten. Beef was undercooked chicken overcooked, cheapest cuts of meet: chicken leg at std, volumes poor , spot the mushroom...all terrible. C £20 for a £2.50 school dinner..... I could also have called this review expensive poor quality tourist food...absolutely avoid here for dinner.

We got a great welcome from the staff at this restaurant in New Town area. We had chosen it for the French themed set menu that is served into the evening and proved fabulous value. The three courses were all excellent and served quickly along with a great house red wine at perfect temperature! Staff very professional and efficient too.

Had the Apre Ski special Tartiflette for two and it was really good...came with bread, salad & a small charcuterie board, one of the better chain restaurants around for sure!

Really lovely vibes, friendly and efficient staff, delicious creme caramel, steak was lovely but I would like more offerings i.e tomato and mushroom to add variety of taste but the bearnaise was faultless.

We had booked a private section for a group of nine. It was curtained off from the upstairs main restaurant. The waiter assigned to us was absolutely brilliant, taking particular care of allergy sufferers. I'm really sorry I don't know his name. The food was delicious.

We were there friday night for the first time for our 40th anniversary ,the staff and food were amazeing ,such a lovely experiance ,attentive but not over bareing kind ,friendly ,it really made our visit special and the food was awsome ,would highly recormmend to anyone visiting edinburgh 🥰

The food here is excellent with a good choice of menu and everything we ate was well prepared and had super flavour. Unfortunately we were in the front of the restaurant and the door does not close completely. We asked to move, but were told they were fully booked. This let a cold draught in every time the many customers came in or out, which was frequently. One of the diners on the next table directly in line with the door was disturbed continually during her meal and could be seen to be getting more and more upset by the experience. When we spoke to a server we were told that this was a problem which has been there for 3 years. If you book ask for a table away from the front section of the restaurant COME ON, YOU'RE BETTER THAN THIS COTE!

It’s a Côte with excellent service and a great vibe.

Had lunch there today, Friday 23 February 2024. We were a group of 5 friends and all agreed that we had had an excellent lunch. Hopefully will be back.

8 of us went for a celebration and family dinner as I am going through a brutal chemo so a celebration and a thank you from me to the people who have helped me the most and who mean the most to me, and literally everyone just loved their food, the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, it was perfect, thank you so much

Came here for my Birthday Dinner and had the best time with friends. Highly recommend the desserts, they were so good I couldn’t choose so picked two! (It was my birthday after all)

This was a random find for us while walking around the city but a very pleasant experience. The food was good, especially the French onion soup! Servers were delightful and friendly.

Came here for dinner yesterday. Very friendly welcome from the man at the host station. We were brought to a table in the back of the restaurant. Despite the restaurant being busy, our waiter was quick to greet us and get a drinks order. Drinks arrived a soon after, we then ordered our main courses which was cote de boeuf. From a customer point of view, I did seem like a lot to handle for one person but the waiter Ricardo was amazing! It was quite impressive watching him hold down a particularly busy section completely on his own and we heard the tables on either side of us comment on how amazing he was. Mains were good, well flavoured and decent portions. Desserts (crème brûlée and fondant) were also very good but have to say the highlight of the meal was the service. If I had to mentioned anything it would be that we were celebrating my partners birthday and I did note this, so a candle in his dessert would have been appreciated, but it’s not the end of the world.

Great choice of food in the menu, a healthy food. I am a very busy individual, but I try to ensure my diet is healthy and well balanced, and you have definitely delivered. When food arrived, I was pleasantly surprised as it felt homely, and it was, of course, delicious. I also liked that the restaurant took me back to Paris due to the design. It felt like I was back there again. As already mentioned earlier, the person who looked after us made the evening extremely satisfying, which made the experience really wonderful.

As always a great comfortable atmosphere coupled with good friendly staff , good food and wine. One of our favourite restaurants for lunch or dinner.

Delightful restaurant, as regular visitors to Edinburgh, we decided to visit Cote edinburgh for breakfast, on entering we received a warm welcome, the menu was extensive, prices are very competitive, and the meal was suberb ,staff were contantly attentive throughout and created a warm and friendly atmosphere for every customer, would definitely recommend.

Cote is always a winning meal. Consistently excellent food and excellent service that makes every meal feel like a special occasion.

Côte is a lovely Brassiere on Frederick Street.  Inside is nicely decorated and it is split over 2 floors.  There also a few tables outside to be taken advantage of in warmer weather.  There is little bit of a view of George St from upper floor. I visited Côte as part of a group of 26 which was, if course, pre-booked.  We were accommodated on the upper floor spread amongst several adjacent tables. There was a bit of a delay before being served despite all dishes being pre-ordered. This did not annoy me personally but had a small number of my group grumbling and their stomachs rumbling. 😅 When we were served it was all carried out in a very orderly fashion and we all had our food at the same time. The staff looked after us well making sure our wine glasses were topped up from our selection of bottles. The food was excellent with no complaints from any of the 26 and it was still being talked about a few weeks later! 😀 Definitely recommended and will visit again.

We have been going to Cote for many years at different locations throughout the UK and have always found the restaurants to be great with a good selection of food, well priced, located in good areas and have excellent staff. Therefore the restaurant no matter where it is can be counted on for a great experience.

Having been to Côte Brasserie Guildford and been impressed we visited the Edinburgh brasserie and were not disappointed. We experienced the same friendliness of all the staff, especially Madeleine, and the excellent quality food. The free bottle of fizz was a bonus. This has become a favourite restaurant if I’m in a UK city. I look forward to trying the ones near to where we live.

Excellent and authentic French cuisine cooked to order.

Came here late with my 2 young children. They very kindly sat us even though we were arrived a bit after their last seating. We shared the cote de beouf which was fantastic. It was served sliced on a cutting board and very nicely cooked. The steak was very flavorful and didn’t need any sauce. I appreciated that they didn’t smother it in butter as is commonly done in the US to cover up flavorless meat. I see why Scottish cows are regarded highly. Service was excellent and the recommended bottle of wine paired well. I would definitely go back again.

What an incredible restaurant! This is my first time going to Côte in Edinburgh and it was an amazing experience. The staff was able to book a lovely table for two people next to the Christmas tree as we were celebrating a special occasion. This gave us a wonderful and warming ambiance throughout the dinner. I can’t stress enough how amazing the service was. We were served by the lovely Ricardo who took so much care of us throughout the dinner, and made sure everything was served perfectly. He passed by several times checking in on us and made sure we felt comfortable and enjoyed our time the whole evening. The restaurant was so kind to offer a dessert on the house to celebrate the special occasion, which we really appreciated. As for the food, we ordered a steak frites and a classic boeuf bourguignon. Steak was cooked to perfection, still juicy and tender while the fries were crunchy. I also asked for an extra sauce of wild mushroom which was absolutely delicious and a great combination. The boeuf bourguignon was mouthwatering, with the tender beef and the mashed potatoes that immediately melts in your mouth. For the dessert, we had a chocolate fondant to share which tasted so delicious, this is my personal favourite dessert. It was such a lovely experience and that was an unforgettable dinner for us, the service was so wonderful (thank you again to Ricardo) and that is one big reason I would love to come again to Côte. If you’re looking for a lovely dinner and craving elevated French cuisine, then I highly recommend!

Stayed in Edinburgh over Christmas and ate in Cote 3 nights. Beautiful interior, helpful knowledgeable staff serving first class food and drinks. Made our Christmas very special.

Christmas Eve Lunch We decided to go into town early to have a nice meal. Cote caught our eye as it was close to our bus stop and the menu suited us both. We arrived a few minutes late due to our bus connection but were immediately shown to out table on the back wall directly in front of the bar. I ordered a bottle of the house red and we were given complimentary tap water. We never felt rushed and ordered within a few minutes. There seemed to be a staff change around 15:00. although we hardly noticed. The food was excellent. FRENCH ONION SOUP Rustic French onion soup, Comté croûtes POULET GRILLÉ Chargrilled chicken breast, creamy mushroom & thyme sauce, watercress, frites BURNT ORANGE TART Vanilla crème fraîche, caramelised orange Double Espresso A very enjoyable day out in a nice setting with nice people.

We recently visited here over the Christmas period as a party of 10. The atmosphere was lovely & and the food was fantastic. We did however have really bad service from our waitress. We were left to sit for 35 mins before our food order was taken, and when we asked to order a second round of drinks when the food order was being taken we were told to wait until she was ready and that we were complicating things. We were also told there were no straws however multiple drinks with straws were going out to tables. The waitress was abrupt and rude and really hindered our whole experience. Once getting home I realised the gratuity was included which is as 10% of the £560 bill paid. Given the poor service I wasn’t comfortable with this and so called the next day to give feedback to the manager and ask for a refund on the gratuity. The manager was lovely - apologised and refunded me the tip straight away. I’d like to think that our not so great experience was only due to that one server but the team as a whole seemed great and the food & atmosphere was really good too. Given the poor customer service we’d be hesitant to return again though.

Had an absolutely fantastic meal this evening, after watching Wicked at the Playhouse with the family. Excellent food, great choices, wonderful wine and amazing service on a busy evening, have to say a big thank you to Abby for her attention, she was lovely, helpful and offering us just the right amount of service / time at the table despite having all full tables throughout (also for having a go at my dad for stealing my drink and food...😂). Can highly recommend the Steak Tartare, but we were all very happy with everything we had,.from pate to poulet! We'll definitely be back,.so much more to try on the menu! I'm one of those gluten intolerant people and they provide the same menu for poison and non posion food. I wish I could give Côte 5 stars as the food was tasty, the atmosphere terrific and most of the staff absolutely lovely but... I was ignored on arrival to the point that people who walked in after me were spoken to behind me then seated! (Our group did have a reservation btw) Then it took over 45 mins to get drinks - I still can't understand why as they seemed to have plenty of staff. The gentleman who brought our drinks was super friendly though and very chatty making us forget the wait 🙂 Before drinks came, one person from our party asked to change their desert as they're celiac and had mistakenly ordered before hand. When it came time, the *very* rude girl who served the deserts said "well, I don't know but you have to just take this"! Given the change wasn't because she changed her mind but was for health reasons, I was really shocked (especially as all the other dishes came with a little flag to say they were gluten free!). Again, most of the staff were so friendly and kind - chatting to us about the food and what we were up to later that night, it's a shame that a couple were so bad. Over all though, I'd chance going back with the hopes of not encountering the bad staff again.
