Cote Brasserie - Chester in Cheshire West and Chester

It was just lovely - I was made to feel very welcome on my arrival, the manager was friendly and chatty whilst I waited for my guest. Its a beautiful building anyway - I remember it from decades ago and its lovely to see what you have done with it, retaining the character of the old walls etc. The food was delicious and we appreciated the willingness of the team to provide simple steamed spinach for my friend, rather than the whole gratin dish. She was very grateful! So all in all - we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you!!

Cannot fault the evening meal or service we had here. Everything was perfect. Just to note that they are card only.

Popped in for dinner after work about an hr from home. After being seated and greeted we were met at the table by a waiter who was chatty, professional and incredibly friendly. I've worked in hospitality most of my life and I'd say he was an asset to anyone's team. (Didn't catch his name, but he had long hair and greeted us with a very flamboyant 'bon soir') as it was a quick tea on the way home we chose the prix fix menu. The food arrived quickly and was tasty / good value for money. Would recommend

Must say it was a very nice restaurant inside nice atmosphere and staff were friendly and helpful.. The starter's we had were very nice but having eaten the pork belly in the Bath restaurant and found it excellent.. I felt let down by the one we had here, which seemed undercooked and tough, so a bit of a letdown ... Im sure the other mains were good. We just had a bad one..Unfortunately, we both had the same, and both I felt were not up to what we had in other Cote restaurants..

Very accommodating: arranged a table for us during busy lunch service despite no booking. Food was delicious and well balanced. Lots of choice and a good prix fixe menu. Not the cheapest but definitely a lovely treat. I would return.

Absolutely brilliant service, food and drink. We were served by Isaac who was phenomenal at recommendations, service and chat, despite them being treated awfully by other customers! We got a nice anniversary drink complimentary also, which went down a treat!

Visited Cote in Chester Tues night food and service was exceptional dined inside we had fabulous food and a lovely surprise of two cocktails served by a lovely Spanish lady very chatty made our night seem so special certainly will visit Cote again too marks in every way thank u for an enjoyable evening

We really enjoyed our meal here on a Sunday evening. The restaurant had a lovely ambience and the French waiter was extremely polite and friendly. The food was lovely but the portion size was quite small. Pricing was reasonable yet drinks were expensive in my opinion. I would prefer the tip not to be added to the overall bill as it could be construed as awkward for those asking for it to be removed. All in all, we would definitely recommend Côte to people visiting Chester.

We have visited CÔTE in Manchester, York and now Chester. Never a bad meal. The food was delicious, my creamy sauce with the salmon tasted divine. I opted for a salad to start and there’s nothing worse than a salad that’s just lettuce leaves, this one was a bit of everything and had so much flavour. We shared a really nice bottle of wine and would have stayed for desert if we had room. Our waiter was lovely and so attentive, him and the front of house worked well as a team!

This is a great restaurant and we had a lovely meal. The interior is naturally decorated, clean and comfortable. The menu offers a good choice and is good value. Staff were very welcoming and friendly and service was very good. Would recommend.

This is a very good chain of restaurants and we were not disappointed with the one in Chester. Well looked after by Malu and the service was professional and friendly. Steak as always great quality and cooked to perfection. Happy to recommend.

The food and service was impeccable, first time to Chester and first time visiting a Côte. Will definitely be returning.

We popped in here for a quick lunch and the food was excellent! And reasonably priced too. The service was very good and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Will definitely be coming back again soon!

Ate here on our first evening of a 2 night break in Chester. The 2 or 3 course menu is excellent value. The venue itself is very pretty, with amazing thick, exposed, arched walls. Food was good & service excellent!

We came in last minute on the day after Mother’s Day and they managed to squeeze us in, which was frankly a miracle. We were greeted by William who got us sat then proceeded to give us outstanding service; the wine recommendations and food quality was amazing. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I want some more outstanding French food.

Food was amazing! Of our party of 11 nobody has anything negative to say - all delicious and piping hot. Wonderful time and catered so well to everyone in the party! Offered a lovely free drink to the birthday lady and made her feel special. One vegan lady in the party was shocked that her meal was vegan it was so good and meat replacement was so realistic!

Pleasant atmosphere, environment was clean and well maintained. Plenty of seating, personally I disliked the large mirrors on the walls as seeing your own reflection whenever you look up to chat to the person opposite is just odd. The service was fine and as expected. The food; some such as the fish dish, looked great, I had the chicken with mushroom sauce. It had a silly portion of rocket on the side, which was close to Impossible to pick up with a knife and fork (just replace with a good side salad). I then finished with the chocolate moose. Yes, it was pleasant, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a treat out, the food overall was standard, it wasn't bad but wasn't great.

One of the best places I have eaten in a long time. Steak tartare was exquisite! Food and service all excellent. Staff are very friendly both in person and over the phone.

Perfect Saturday lunch venue to make your shopping day extra special. Start with a cocktail, the food is delicious and the atmosphere relaxed and stylish. We had the free March cocktail and then both chose something from the seasonal Alpine menu. The Tartiflette was creamy, Smokey and cheesy deliciousness. We opted for a side of truffle chips but actually didn’t need them as the portions are just right. The staff were welcoming and attentive without being intrusive.

The food and the service was excellent. The menu has lots to offer. Everything was served hot and on hot plates. The restaurant was busy with a great atmosphere and despite being busy the service from the staff was perfect. No long wait following our order or in between courses. We would highly recommend and we will definitely return. Thanks.

Visited last night for the prix menu , lovely restaurant and great ambiance. The staff are so attentive but not over the top and I asked about the history of the building and the young waiter was so informative it was brilliant to hear all the facts from the romans with the foundations and hyper course through to medieval etc he was so enthusiastic and obviously loves Chester . The food was lovely and superb value for money 3 courses for £ 19 what’s not too like , so if your in Chester and love great food at a great price make sure you visit Cote , well done to everyone involved, will definitely visit again next time we visit Chester .

Hi, just wanted to drop you a line about our visit to your Chester restaurant yesterday. We were very politely welcomed and shown to a great seat, tucked away at the rear. The food and drinks were superb but the best part was the service we received initially and for most of the meal from Malu, and then as she had to go on break, the very capable and entertaining William took over. They were both excellent ambassadors for your business, and whilst the competition in Chester for good dining is extremely competitive, I feel these two along with all the other staff we encountered, give you more than a head start, thank you for a lovely meal and exemplary service.

The food is exquisite, excellent selection and ingredients, great value for money and fantastic service. Highly recommend their saxophone brunch on Sunday

Myself and family visited Friday night for my Dad's birthday and we were served by William. The food was lovely and the atmosphere was great. The service by William was brilliant. William is one of the best waiters I have ever encountered, energetic, funny, knowledgeable and so attentive, he made the night so memorable. If I ever own a restaurant, I'll be poaching William from you. Absolute gem.

Decided to give this a try as reviews were great. Wasn’t disappointed, the service was exceptional throughout, genuinely friendly. Had baked Camembert to share as a starter as we don’t have huge appetites. Both chose the Sea Bream with tenderstem broccoli & baby potatoes, served with the most amazing sauce. Delicious! Will definitely return & highly recommend this beautiful restaurant 👍

Overcharged, had to point out for a refund. Ensure you specify the breakfast deal as not assumed. Can be a costly error if you don't check what you've been charged for.

Excellent food and service. Pity the company emailed me after the meal asking “Were you offered any further drinks throughout your meal?” I see this as an annoying thing in restaurants (pouring half a bottle of wine into two glasses, back five minutes later to pour even more). Staff are under pressure to encourage drinking for the sake of profits. We had become annoyed with this in picolino, that’s why we came to the Côte brasserie. Much nicer atmosphere late at night, less rowdy and no-one swearing. Thanks to Côte brasserie for a lovely night.

First course "prawns" was solid overcooked / baked and was cold when received. Main course was also cold "Turkey" but the dauphinois were nice. The creme brulee was okay but all 3 courses too 3 hours. I felt it was pre-cooked and kept warm which made everything dry out or turn tough before serving. I'd suggest cooking everything fresh. The waiter upstairs with the short beard was very helpful and knew his wines. Bravo to him 👏🏼😁.

Been here a few times over the years, mainly for breakfast. Every time we have come they have always got the order wrong. Same again this time round. This time the breakfast menu has changed and not for the better. The reason why we came to COTE for breakfast was because of how nice it was with the hollandaise sauce , the garlic spinach and the veggie sausage. Now its just a normal boring breakfast , boring like the restaurant. Wont be back and i dont recommend.

Gorgeous food in a wonderful historic setting. I would say the tables are set pretty close to another however, which is a little uncomfortable.

Just want to say we had a fabulous meal last night here, we had the unfortunate experience of being sat near one very loud and obnoxious lady from a group of about 10. This lady wanted to complain, not just to the waiters, but to everyone in the restaurant (so loud) and anyone entering the restaurant, blatantly telling staff and the restaurant she was not paying. The Manager asked the group to leave, however, it would seem that not all of the table agreed to not paying, and payment was made. We eventually intervened...we had no choice she was spoiling our night. There are ways of complaining and that was not one of them. Apparently they were from "hospitality" one of them tells us on leaving.......REALLY! So are we !!! Well done to the staff for dealing with her, and well done to guests cheering when the loud and obnoxious guest left.

The food and setting are excellent here, but it was our waiter who made the evening. Special mention to James for outstanding service from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. We really enjoyed the whole meal, from the food and drink to the atmosphere and layout. Myself and my wife were keen to enjoy our first child free date night in a while and we had 3 wonderful hours here, that seemed to pass in the bat of an eye. Highly recommend, nice central location in Chester close to all the main areas too.

I did not appreciate the fact that i wanted to take the remaining food with us for the kids and I was told they had nothing to give me, not even foil. When i asked for napkins the waiter laughed sarcastically. I did not like his attitude. And then you are supposed to pay the 10% service charge? Why would I like to pay it? I wanted water and i had to ask 2-3 times. The service was not good and the main course delayed to come after the appetisers.

We really enjoyed our first dining experience at Cote. The fish stew was beautifully cooked and was full of prawns/mussels. My husbands steak was cooked to perfection. The service from Malu was exceptional she was friendly and professional, food came out quickly yet we didn't feel rushed. We will definitely return.

Expensive, very poor service. The waiter asks how done you want your steak? I answer: well-cooked steak, please. The waiter brings one that is still bleeding. My friend ordered grilled salmon medium and got it well-done. The salmon was too dry and difficult to eat. Nice place, but poor service (that's why the service fee is added to the bill in advance 😂 otherwise there would be no tips). The bill was very high and we left hungry and dissatisfied. I do not recommend.

Had fixed price menu. Food was good. Reasonable choice. No complaints. Very quiet when arrived but got very busy later.

We used this Cote on two evenings Sunday and Monday this week for our evening meal and it came totally up to or expectations👌 I would highly recommend this restaurant the staffing is very friendly but professional. Very good value for money all round. On the negative side unfortunately this restaurant is not accessible to all do to the four steps you must navigate to enter.

Great restaurant and hospitality. Our waitress upstairs Malu was great and very knowledgeable. The food tasted great, we will be back for another date night.

Dreadfully slow delivery spoilt a nice meal. Orders taken promptly on arrival, starters came in sensible time ... waited over an hour for main course to come, and that was only after we chased up for it. There are much more satisfying places for a good meal in Chester. The food was nice enough but we were so hungry by the time it arrived we couldn't take time to enjoy it. We won't be back.

Staff are really welcoming. Ambience is lovely. Food is delicious and great value. Wine list is excellent with a really good selection by the glass.

I've done the fixed price menu many times over the years. Never again. When my Pickled pear & walnut salad was served, they called it the "walnut salad" which is shocking as it only had HALF a walnut (plus 4 wafer thin slices of pear). I upgraded by £5 for the ribeye steak, I doubted it was ribeye, I felt so saddened I requested confirmation I had been served correctly, they said it was correct, luckily it was beautifully cooked, but I was not satisfied. Chocolate mousse was only OK, but overall I felt very disappointed. Read my other reviews, I am not one to complain all the time

One waitress looking after all of our big family, she did Amazing!! . Food was lovely, although the small baguettes that came with the crab were very tough !. The card only policy is totally wrong!! a few members of the family wanted to use cash , caused a lot of embarrassment when we were trying to settle the bill!. Put a damper on what had been a lovely evening, hopefully in the near future they will consider cash as well as card!.

Delightful, helpful staff. A little quiet (at 5:15, to be expected) but we chose where to sit. Great food and good value.

It's a pretty safe bet. A tad too organised food for me, but the restaurant did not do it for me. Price of the food was very reasonable but drinks over priced. The service was good but a little over enthusiastic from the waiting.

A really good alternative to the rest of foreign restaurants. During the week they offer a:special priced set menu with various options. You can choose between 2 or 3 course, but can decide on the 3 course after finishing the main Friendly service and very nice.

Felt a bit rushed this time we visited. We hadn't booked and showed up hoping they could fit us in, which they did, and for that, we are grateful. After sitting down we were asked 3 times within 10 minutes for drink and food orders. The food once ordered came out very quickly and was good.

This is the second time of dining here .and It didn’t disappoint . Food was great. Had the 3set course starting with salmon fish cake. madam went for the sea bass I had the steak finished off with the plum clafoutis . Very yummy . Issac our waiter was very approachable and attentive with great people skills .highly recommended

What is the point in having disabled toilets on the first floor and at the far end of the room to the stairs? This is in breach of s20 of the Equality Act 2010 for failing to make a reasonable adjustment to a physical feature. Your front of house manageress expected my friend to pee somewhere else. What planet is she on? I had to manhandle my 92 year old friend with a mobility disability just so she could have a wee, and she spent just short of £200 and paid a massive service charge. It’s the 21st century and still disabilist businesses exist. Did you really expect her to pee her pants or in the street. I was not allowed to have the soup off the set menu no matter if I was charged separately for it. I had to ask the front of house manageress for service because no one came to the table after our main course, and we were totally ignored. Your front of house manageress was rude and abrasive when I asked for a quiet table even though I had booked ahead by several days. Her attitude was take it or leave it because you were busy. Well you shouldn’t overbook your tables. Would I visit a Cote again - definitely not. I’ve been asked below about wheelchair accessibility which is a definite no as there are steps into the restaurant with no lift and no way of getting to the first floor toilet.
