Cote Brasserie in Welwyn Hatfield

A family of 7 went to lunch on Easter Sunday. It was very busy when we got there. We didn’t wait too long for our drinks and starters, but the mains. It’s probably because of the special day. A saxophone player was walking around the tables, creating unique atmosphere. All the dishes we ordered were all tasty and worth trying except for the side dish of tomato salad, which was too plain, my husband said. I had a tuna steak Nicoise salad and it was really tasty with tapenade and anchovy. This place is perfect for a large family or party.

The food was very nice, but I could only afford to eat here because someone else was paying. Also, there was only one vegan dish on the menu which means I won't be coming back until the menu changes.

The food was delicious and cooked well with balanced flavours. The service was equally superb. We had been to a different location before and my MIL really enjoyed the tartiflette. We noticed that it wasn’t on the menu anymore, so inquired about it. We were told that they had just discontinued it the day before, but they still had some ingredients leftover and the chef would be happy to whip it up for us. We were really pleased with the staff’s hospitality. Dessert was decadent, especially the chocolate fondant, which had a molten core. Even the mini chocolate fondant from the café gourmand dessert selection had an oozing centre. Top notch. They also let me switch out my ice cream flavour to chocolate so that I could have even more chocolate with my lava cake.

Menu hardly ever changes so it becomes boring

The Welwyn Garden City restaurant is always a delight to visit. From the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave, it’s always a treat. We usually visit for breakfast, this was our first time for lunch. We will definitely be visiting for lunch again

The Cote is always my favourite place to go. I've enjoyed every single meal that I've ordered from this restaurant. Staff are always polite. Food is enjoyable and reasonably priced. Restaurant, clean, and nice ambience. Couldn't ask for more.

We went there for breakfast. Our order was served after 55 minutes and we were not happy with the dishes either. Very poor quality and small portions.

Outstanding service and food was amazing

The restaurant was very busy and the kitchen seem to be struggling a bit, but the service found a nice way to make up for it and kept us in good spirits. The food was well worth waiting for, absolutely delicious!

Disappointing Experience with Crème Brûlée - A Complete Letdown I recently had the unfortunate experience of ordering and starting to consume what was purportedly a Crème Brûlée at Cote WGC, and I feel compelled to express my deep disappointment with the overall quality of this dessert. I am saddened to report that it was wrong in every respect, leaving me with an unsatisfactory dining experience. First and foremost, the custard itself was a far cry from the velvety, luscious texture that is synonymous with a well-executed Crème Brûlée. Instead of the creamy consistency one would expect, the custard was scrambled and the cream curdled, lacking the delicate smoothness that defines this classic French dessert. The caramelized sugar crust, which is a hallmark of a proper Crème Brûlée, was equally disappointing. Instead of presenting a delicate layer of golden-brown caramel that cracks satisfyingly under the spoon, I was met with a haphazardly torched surface that was soft but in places bordered on burnt, with a bitter aftertaste. This misguided attempt at achieving the caramelized effect only added insult to injury. I am genuinely dismayed by the lack of attention to detail and the blatant departure from the culinary standards one would expect, especially when ordering a classic and revered dessert like Crème Brûlée. As a patron, I believe it is crucial to provide constructive feedback to ensure the maintenance of quality. I raised the issue with the waitress and asked for the item to be removed from the bill. A short while later the waitress returned and stated that there was “nothing wrong with the dessert”. She told me that “sometimes it comes out like that” and this was perfectly OK. I found it quite insulting to have it suggested in front of my guests that I was in the wrong; I was clearly not. This also makes me worry for the many other customers who must also be getting desserts as poor as mine, if the kitchen and waiting staff believe this to be acceptable quality.

Dry burgers. Lots of oil on the chips. No flavour. Just not what you expected from a like this.

Went early, so quiet. But food was lovely, as was the wine. Staff were great. I do wish they served the fish pie on a large plate, but minor point.

Very warm (actually I liked a warmer place as it was a very cold night outside) welcoming venue. Great food and drink. Staff were careful to ask for anything we needed just at the right time without pushing customer. Waiting period for serving was very good. Bill was very accurate pleasantly brought when asked. Staff were on foot around. Many other good details. I expected a French staff but absolutely alright with current lovely people.

Great food. You would be paying ~2x the money for a worse quality food in Central London. It's not that it's cheap. The pricing is just more sensible. I went in for the lunch menu. I think it was £16.xx for 2 dishes and £23.xx for 3. You get to mix and match apperiser, main, and dessert. This menu is quite limited, but the main menu provides ranges of choice.

Food, service and atmosphere could not have been better.

Our waitress Dana was fantastic with table service, she was very kind and helpful whilst serving us. Our starters and mains were exquisite, it had a very nice environment and had an overall lovely Sunday lunch. I will be recommending this restaurant to my friends and family.

Lovely let lunch with my daughter. Erica looked after us really well & recommended some delicious wines to accompany our food! Perfect spot to chase the winter blues away!

The table was booked by my Mum for her 80th Birthday so there was 7 of us. Our waiter Calum was extremely attentive and very helpful. Knew the menu well and was able to make recommendations. The choice in the menu was just right and very delicious. Definitely deserves a gold star

The steaks were high! After finishing a great session at the gym i was on the hunt for a decent steak. Côtes not only provided with a fantastic melt-in-your-mouth 7oz Fillet steak cooked medium-rare but the service was impeccable also. Felt welcome as soon as i stepped in the door. Great friendly staff and also able to recommend me favourites. Will be returning again!

Looking for somewhere different for a late lunch, the menus were very inviting so we decided to eat. We each had the set menu which gave us loads of options to choose from. The steak frites was a hit and our other choices were perfectly cooked and presented well The staff were friendly and attentive, even though we sat in the outside terrace, we didn't have to wait for drinks or food and the table setting was lovely This lovely place is worth a visit. Next time we'll do an evening out there, can't wait

Delicious food and fizz, anf a couple of gorgeous cocktails. The seasonal pumpkin spice martini was so delish! A small issue got sorted quicky and considerately.

I can’t say I can fault anything about it. Food is always good and so is the service. I come at all time of the days and you are always well looked after no matter how early or late. Great all around place - highly recommended

My daughter and I have just had a meal from the breakfast menu, as usual the food and the service were excellent, however they have now gone cashless which is something I completely disagree with, sadly I will have to think twice about returning.

Waited 20 minutes, no-one approached to even take a drinks order. Appreciate that the restaurant was busy, but really? Left & found food elsewhere.

The background music could be much better it was too loud and obtrusive the time of day(evening) and the genre not very sympathetic to creating a French atmosphere to suit the lovely food.

We didn’t have a previous reservation but always know if we are out and go into a cote we will have a good meal. The staff were polite and welcoming the food was good. Service was excellent and not too long for food to be served. We Look forward to the next time

The camembert is undersized. The burger was overcooked and bang average in taste for a burger costing £16. If you charge these prices you need to provide good food and this was simply not good enough.

Came here for a joint birthday breakfast for my son and my mother. Service was excellent, they really looked after us, it definitely felt like a special occasion. All food and drinks were of the highest standard, particularly the vegan breakfast, and it was overall great value for money, will definitely visit again.

Our favourite place for breakfast. We visit at least once a month, more often if we’re not travelling. It makes us feel like we’re on holiday with the linen napkins and paper towels in the toilets. Very stylish and well run establishment. Thank you for a wonderful breakfast, as always.

A brilliant experience from beginning to end

We had a lovely late lunch at Cotes Welwyn Garden City last Saturday the sun was shining so we sat outside. We got a really friendly welcome and Dana was our waitress. She was very knowledgeable about the menu food choices and also the drinks menu especially the wine. Nothing was too much trouble and the experience was really pleasurable.

Menu changes seasonally moderate cost ££ but bog standard wines priced at ridiculous levels.

We booked a table for four on Wednesday evening. It was another excellent visit. We were warmly greeted by Carlos, their manager who is superb. Our server was Iga, a truly lovely charming and attentive young lady. I had calamari to start with and followed by mussels with fries. Both dishes were heavenly good, calamari was made to perfection! Honestly, the best calamari I have had in my life! I was lucky enough to save their last portion for the day! :) Everyone was enjoying their orders, nothing been left on the plates! :) Thank you for the amazing service, we all spent another great evening in that beautiful restaurant. Keep up the excellent work and see you all soon!

Had lovely vegetarian breakfast, it is the best in town! Great service, such lovely atmosphere and decor, really lovely.

We stayed above the restaurant in a flat rental. It was so hot, I believe due to restraunt, like living in a furnace. I would not recommend in the summer or rain either as was very muggy.

Food very good but noisy, conversation difficult

Service was friendly. Food was very nice. We had the set menu which was good value for money. Portion size was ok. On the night that we visited (Wednesday), even though it was mid week, it was reasonably busy so it had a nice atmosphere. Will definitely return.

It's a nice place. Not too noisy so good for talking. Service is efficient. Food tastes great but sometimes is delivered dried out like it's been under heat lamps in the kitchen for a while which is not great.

I decided to visit this restaurant as a treat. I had heard good things from relatives. Unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. Firstly, I was given a table right next to the main door and immediately opposite the bar, the till, and the kitchen. So, I was subject to a cacophony of noise from the servers and the general hubbub. I had hoped to come here for a high-quality, peaceful Sunday breakfast. I asked to be moved, and that obviously involved some 'advanced' executive decision-making by the manager while he checked his reservations schedule. I might add that the restaurant inside was almost deserted, and there were dozens of tables that were unoccupied. I was eventually shown to a table that was nicely situated and with comfortable chairs. From that high point, everything declined. There was a door on the other side of the restaurant that banged and rattled a dozen times a minute from the wind outside. This was incredibly annoying. There were a few utility drawers and cabinets situated around, and all of the staff insisted on banging and clattering every single one. The management apparently hasn't heard of soft-close mechanisms for doors, cabinets, and drawers. Unfortunately, in the middle of my champagne breakfast, a large party was seated opposite me, who were loud, boisterous, and constantly swearing. Not exactly the classy type. I recorded the ambient noise levels in the restaurant, and they frequently reached 93 decibels. The Health and Safety Executive states that prolonged exposure to noise above 90 decibels can cause gradual hearing loss. That's how loud it was in here! The food was bland, and I was missing items in my cooked breakfast. The waiter had misunderstood my requests. The champagne was good. As I left the restaurant, no one enquired if everything had been okay, and no one said goodbye. I was incredibly unimpressed.

We have been to this particular Cote a few times and never been disappointed, however, there is always a first time. My wife chose the Breton Fish Stew and was very pleased with her choice so no problem there. It had a lovely assortment of mussels, prawns, seabream to name but a few. It did look and smell very nice and when it arrived I thought that I might have made the wrong choice. My choice of main was from the Prix Fixe menu. I started to get worried when it arrived. The menus states “Chargrilled Chicken Breast ……..” It makes no mention of the fact that the chicken breast is in fact an escalope. In this case it must have been under a steam roller several times as it was quite thin and as tough as old boots. I knew that I was in trouble when I had to really try hard to cut it. I suppose that I should have sent it back and asked for a proper chicken breast. Lesson learnt. Note to Cote - If you’re going to serve an escalope then call it an escalope - in which case I would have probably gone for the Fish Stew and not been disappointed. Hopefully Cote will alter the description on the menu because what you are served may be a chicken breast albeit one that has been bashed to “within an inch of its life”! Totally unnecessary to make this a tasteless escalope when a normal breast cooked properly would have been really nice as the sauce etc was very tasty. Please think twice before ordering the “Poulet Grille”.

We have not visited since the redecoration. Looks fresh and clean. A lot more tables on the pavement. Lovely caring staff and manager. We all enjoyed our brunch 😀

Took another 15 minutes for someone to take my order again. I then ordered a glass of champagne. Another half hour later noone had checked back, asked me if I was ready to eat or whether I would like another drink. However every other table got a check back and asked if they would like more food or drinks.....multiple times. I was the only person ignored! It was not busy and there were 3 other team members on shift. One couple came in after me, had cocktails, dinner and paid the bill and left in the time that I had two drinks. When I brought this to the attention of the manager, I also asked for my bill, as I wouldn't want to eat where I was ignored ....his excuse was ' I thought you would come inside when you were ready for food' that doesn't make sense as I told the previous supervisor that I had a table booked and as it was hot I'd be sitting outside. Also everyone else eating or drinking outside was served. I'm so disappointed as I never complain but I left so upset at the treatment I recieved.

Just underwhelmed, think we just need to recognise it’s a quick food chain. Sat down at a table and to be fair they soon had it prepared. Ordered some drinks and a light lunch. The Muscadet was not chilled, whilst the food was presented well, with the exception of the butter was just bland. Had to ask for the bill 3 times!

A family friendly chain French inspired restaurant. Food and service good and location is nice overlooking the fountain and top of town. Option of outside dining is nice as well as seats inside with the bi folds open for the best of both inside and outside dining.

We live in Bushey Herts but this branch is well worth the 30 minute journey. Went recently for a family birthday. Good atmosphere , attentive but not in your face service , very good consistent food and overall with all the alcohol ordered, pretty good value for the six of us. Highly recommended

Been a regular visitor to Cote since it launched in Welwyn, and always found their food and service to be excellent quality. The restaurant really comes into its own in summer when they open the bi-fold doors to let the outside in! Evening meals are also very good. I'd take slightly larger dish portions, maybe, but otherwise we'll always be going back.

Been here a couple of times. Food overall is pretty good. Portions a little on the small side but tasty and well presented. 4 out of 5 happy of us with the meal. One person ordered duck with bitter orange sauce but had negative feedback to give saying the sauce tasted nothing like bitter or any kind of orange for that matter and it was swimming in it which spoilt their meal. Did say that the duck and vegetables were beautifully cooked though. Service very good but I STRONGLY object to a restaurant that adds a discetionary service charge to your bill without telling you/or mentioning it....that is hardly discretionary now is it? When I go for a meal I expect good standard of service. That's the minium expectation.

Sorry to say I was very ill after eating pork belly which was very poor, hence the average mark for food. Otherwise nice time with family. Offer me a free lunch to make up & I'll be back!
