Cosy Corner Restaurant in Powys

Food was absolutely delicious. Owners are really lovely and clearly put a lot of love into their business. Will definitely return and would recommend to anyone. Great for the town.

We arrived late into our accommodation (Cedar Tree Guesthouse) and were recommended to get a table here if we could. The restaurant stopped serving at 8pm, but the chef (co-owner) was happy to stay open for us until 8.30pm. Service and food were amazing. Welsh Bourguignon was faultless, as was the NZ Sauvignon Blanc. Keep this up 👍🏼

The food was absolutely delicious! It was a weekday evening in March so the restaurant was quiet but the waitress was attentive and every mouthful of food was a treat!

It’s refreshing to find a small local restaurant catering well for vegetarians, so we made sure to visit when staying in the area. The sesame cauliflower was a generous portion and tasty. The duck leg was good - and we liked the fact that you could choose one or two based on appetite. The wine choice by the glass (red or white) left a little to be desired for a ‘bistro’ and the decor is a little tired in places, but overall a good find in a small town and we would happily recommend a visit.

Had a delicious meal in a lovely setting with great service. What Adam and Nadee have created here is amazing and much needed in the area. Halloumi fries and meatball starters were tasty, the Sri Lankan curry (from an authentic recipe!) was warming and vibrant - I had vegetable, husband had chicken. We both had sticky toffee pudding which was the perfect portion size with a great depth of flavour. We’ll definitely eat here again. Thank you!

My partner and I went to this restaurant on a whim after a long day exploring the welsh countryside and my gosh was it a good decision. We didn’t expect there to be such a broad diversity of dishes, from 21 day aged beef burger to banana blossom “fish and chips”. We loved the fried prawns starter (so much that we came back the day after to have it again)! The chef is incredibly talented. Nadi served us and the service couldn’t be any better. She was very polite and even had a chat with us about the inspiration for some of the meals of the menu. If we’re ever in the area again, we’ll definitely be coming back here!

A chef that can produce a steak, that tasty, that moist and that tender is a very good chef. Best steak I’ve had in a long time. My husband’s confit duck was equally as good. Would thoroughly recommend.

Very good food, friendly service and exceptionally good house wines at a reasonable price. Would recommend. I would say one if not the best restaurant in this area for varies food with a lot of thought. Excellent veggie options too.

Met up with a friend here as a mid-way point between us and we were so glad we did. The place is as cosy as its name (although there's also a small area at the back with picnic tables in better weather). On a Friday night, sitting by the front windows, we had plenty of entertainment from the goings-on across the road at the rugby club! The music in the bistro was an eclectic mix, our favourite of the evening being a Spanish version of Hotel California :) Every now and again we'd find our conversation paused as an unusual song began to play, then share the 'last time I heard that...' stories. So, the food. Oh my, the food. We both chose veggie dishes, K chose a mushroom and a dumpling starter and I had a gorgeous fragrant curry, both of which were beautifully seasoned and prepared. We fancied the cauliflower dish, too, but just didn't have room for that and a dessert. There are both meat and veg dishes to choose from. We both chose a rich chocolate/nut/ cherry concoction to finish and savoured our way through as we chatted and laughed. Really very good and well worth travelling an hour for. The lady serving was so friendly and lovely, she was very good-natured about us taking our time and never rushed us. She was cooking as well, there were only 2 staff, and we did wait quite a while to catch her attention to pay the bill. We had such a great time, though, we really didn't mind, but worth keeping in mind if you are working within a time-limit. You might want to let them know, if so. Accessibility: there is on-road parking close by if you can nab it, a daytime/ weekday car park just around the corner. The pavements are fairly narrow but ok for wheels - chairs or buggies. The door is split in 2 and narrow, so you'd need to open both sides to get in with either. There's a small 1-2" door jamb. The toilets are down some stairs outside at the back, so not accessible, however, there's a pub next door (The Barley Mow) that could have better disabled accessible toilets. I didn't check. The main seating is on a level and would be suitable for a wheelchair user.

Best restaurant in Builth Wells. Excellent menu and superb food in a central location. We dined there both nights that we stayed in the twin and were delighted with our experience both nights. Reasonably priced.

Wow! A really cosy place with super service and the food ( of which there is lots!) is great. 4 of us ate there and at first our host was a little eager to get us served but we explained that we wanted a relaxed dinner, we got exactly that. All the food was served well with nice quality crockery and cutlery, one of our party tried the 'it's not fish and chips' and raved about it. No complaints at all from us and when one of our party had some heartburn issues, the team at Cosy Corner went out of their way to assist. Lovely, welcoming staff, food great, beautiful little place. Superb.

Great food and atmosphere- we all enjoyed our food. Shame that most of the shops in this odd little town were closed (?!) on Saturday afternoon?! Except for this bistro, Builth Wells seems rather a deserted dour little town, with dark looking shops, lacklustre and in need of an injection of charm - we cut our stay short as the whole town had a decaying feel … lacking warmth and joy..🤷🏻‍♀️

Visited with friends from London - they insisted that we eat at Cosy Corner because they enjoyed it so much last year. I had no problem obliging, of course. The owners provide a superb standard of service and are always very friendly. The restaurant has a very traditional feel but the menu is modern and innovative. The fillet steak really is the crowning glory - delicious and tender. The prices are also very reasonable. Will continue to visit when in Builth.

We love this fantastic cosy restaurant and have eaten here dozens of times with various family members and friends who all love it too. Food and service is always amazing. Can't believe the comments from Emma as we were there the same time and they were served by Al so no waitress served them! Service is always spot on and they do everything to give you a lovely time. Obviously no one can please everyone all the time but so sad that people can write such lies when clearly this didn't happen. We recommend Cosy Corner to all our friends and visitors and they all love it. Keep going Taryn and Al - you are doing an amazing job. Can't wait until our next visit.

We have visited Cosy Corner on many occasions, either on our own as a couple and with friends and family. Never have any of us had a poor meal, the food has always been most excellent in quality and quantity. The service is second to none and I can thoroughly recommend this lovely, cosy restaurant to anyone without fear of disappointment.We visited on Friday August 14th for my birthday. I’d sent our choice of menus and drinks by messenger and phoned to pay with my card. The tables were nicely placed for social distancing and there was a one way system in place.Alistair welcomed us and brought our drinks to the table. Our starters were brought along with our requested bottles of wine in wine coolers. For the main course my hubby had chicken sosatie and I had fillet steak, wonderfully cooked and presented.We couldn’t eat our puddings so they were packed in a cool bag with ice cubes and ice packs for us to take home. Can not fault the food or service, from a very friendly and obliging couple. Thank you so much Taryn and Al, we will be back very soon

we had an amazing meal here last night. I cannot compliment this couple enough. service fab and the food was superb. steak cooked to perfection, chicken pesto delish, fish cakes beautiful. go here you will not be disappointed. oh and the last review from Emma. what a load of twoddle

On holiday in the area we selected our order online. Arrived at the restaurant and entered via the one way system. Our drinks and wine were waiting on the table as we arrived. My husband was just opening the wine when our main course was plonked in front of us. We had booked starters online after eating our starters. The mains came cold having been sitting for sometime. The disgruntled waitress told us she could not make us fresh ones. We looked at each other in amazement explaining that it was not our fault that they had forgotten the starters to wish she stated again you need to have those I can’t make you fresh ones. We never did end up with our meal we ordered online the situation ended with them giving us a refund when all we wanted was the meals to paid for online and did not receive. The woman who served us had a very bad attitude and other people in the restaurant were complaining their food was also cold. Never again worst experience in a restaurant ever no customer service at all. Cov19 could well be effecting then but don’t take this out on customers who have paid full price for a pre order they did not receive. Avoid.

In a corner of the world where most things are sadly battered and bland, Taryn and Al shows passion for cooking by offering tasty, fresh and seasonal dishes available for take-away. Always good portions and selection of sides and desserts. Unwilted ingredients are clearly sourced regularily to ensure top quality, and there's always a new and exciting special on the menu. On a regular basis, they also offer dining in their beautifully quirky historic building.

A real find. Lovely ambience, I met a friend for lunch and we were seated by the woodburner as it was a chilly day. Cozy and a good spot for a catch up. Friend ordered the chickpea and coconut curry and I had a seafood basket with a delicious salad (as I didn't want chips). Plenty of choice on menu and goodly selection of veggie and gluten free options. Excellent food, excellent service, excellent value. Highly recommended, will definitely visit again.

Turned up unannounced on Friday night and managed to get a table for two. Did not know the area so followed the advice of our B&B host.What a great find! First up the owners are very friendly. Second - the food. Really good. Fresh and cooked well. I had Bobotie - which was really good.The restaurant has a homely and friendly feel. I would certainly return if I was in the area again. We booked Cosy Corner for a New Years Day lunch. The staff made it so easy by taking our pre-orders, the only difficult part was choosing from such an extensive menu - I wanted everything on there!! We were a very large, very happy, probably noisy group of eight adults, four teenagers and a child. But they couldn’t do enough for us. We got talking to the owners Taryn and Al and they were the warmest, friendliest couple with such a lovely story. The food was amazing with such generous portions. I had asparagus with ham and hollandaise sauce with a lovely fresh salad to start and it was delicious. My lamb shank main was so enormous that I had to take some of my meat away with me. And my trio of chocolate mousses was beautiful! We were all absolutely delighted with the food, the ambience and the staff were exceptional. They really made our New Years Day special and we will definitely be returning again.

Have been to cosy corner many times and have always been more than happy so was delighted to be able to make their New Years Eve night. The restaurant was full but this didn’t effect the service and food. The service was friendly, stress free and efficient. The food amazing as always. Every course delivered in a timely manner and hot. We had Thai curry, schnitzel and lamb shank which were all delicious.There was an added bit of fun with a quiz which was fun and entertaining with great prizes.All in all a great way to spend New Years Eve. Al and Taryn are the most welcoming hosts, their restaurant is most welcoming, and the food is absolutely to die for.We took some friends to dine there on Monday and different friends today ..... New Years Day and the food was totally awesome. Both sets of friends were very impressed and fully enjoyed the ambiance and friendliness of the service provided.The food is wonderful, there is a full and eclectic choice on the menu, to include lovely veggie and vegan food. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, all in all a great experience of relaxation, good food and drink, my very favourite being Welsh Black Beef fillet mmmmm cooked to perfection.If you are in the area, do call in, lunch or evening dinner, all very good. We cannot praise the place too highly.

This is one of our favourite places to eat in the area. The menu is regularly refreshed and offers lots of unusual and international (usually South African) specialities. We moved to Builth 18 months ago, and owing to the great quality of the food and friendly service, we are repeat customers Taryn and Al have also made my in-laws feel so welcome when they moved here in August. The Cozy Corner is not so much a restaurant to my in-laws, but an extension of their home, owing to the amount of of time they spend there. All-in-all, it’s a great place to eat

Friendly reception and very welcoming with Woodburner on a cold night. Extensive menu, could have chosen 5 out of 10 mains. Served very hot with fresh veg and interesting accompaniments (mashed parsnip / swede, corn on the cob). Reasonably priced wine and delicious desserts. Tip: don’t over-order the portions are very generous. The only place to eat in Builth Wells. Congratulations Al and his wife.

In town for the dog show, took a chance on a walk-in and found heaven! Thought I had better have lamb as we were in Wales, it was absolutely lovely; beautiful tastes with fresh vegetables and fantastic mash. Really friendly service and a nice warm welcome.

Came to the restaurant on Saturday 12th-late lunch. We were a big group, and the service was amazing. Most of us ordered Fish and chips- which meant they had run out after us being there. Desert was a tasty chocolate fudge cake. The cost was very very reasonable and definitely recommend it

As a walk-in couple, we were warmly welcomed. Despite a small miscommunication, (which was rectified), both the pork shank and the bobotie were excellent. Was busy, but didn't feel hectic.

We were in Builth Wells overnight and had been told that Cosy Corner restaurant was good, but was always booked up well in advance. Not so. It was busy, but we got a table for two without any problem.
