Costa Coffee in South Lakeland

It's a Costa coffee shop! It's one of few places to get a drink early morning in Ambleside.

Had caramel lattes as usual, not many people in so sat inside.

Don't normally review on Costa however on this occasion i had to post the above and beyond customer care given as the staff had hand decorated some takeaway cups.

The server wasn't clear on my allergens. I was charged more for the drink i got and the music was horrible. it was also ridiculously expensive

Unfortunately I can only give Costa Ambleside 2 stars today. We frequent Costa shops all over the North West but were very disappointed with the wait for service, the toilet had no toilet paper, and we weren't allowed to bring our small dog in. Almost everywhere in the lakes, dogs are allowed. Also every other Costa we have been in there is a section for patrons, with dogs. A big shame, because my Vanilla Latte was gorgeous.

Only one server, a wonderful young man called Alex who managed to not keep anyone waiting, clear tables and have a friendly word with every customer. Well done Alex and Costa coffee.

It a beautiful shop it low staffed but they are lovely people they work very hard!

Saturday 15th July At 14:30. Went in to grab a take away coffee on my work break and as I got to the door a rude member of staff approached me and said we are (f*) shut and then said I’ll break your (f*) cap if you want coffee. I found out that this person is a cover member of staff from Bowness but I can’t remember what his name was. I will never be setting a foot in either the Ambleside Costa or even the Bowness one ! This is no way to speak to customers and especially the locals like that!

Very good service, staff is friendly and quite funny. I’m not a local but they helped me find my way around by explaining it to me, would recommend for anyone in the area

Closed at 4pm, really?!! I arrived at 4 looking forward to a coffee to be told they're closed. My local costa in Birkdale is open until 6pm. It opens 7am too. What's with the short opening hours in ambleside. Work shy bunch I guess.

Serving coffee only in takeaway cups as only 1 member of staff. Wth?! I ran a cafe single handedly taking orders, making and serving food and drinks for 6 weeks until I got some staff. 1 staff member can't make coffee in a china cup when they've just opened and only have 1 customer?? I can understand this policy at peak times, but seriously?? I also know a lot of people looking for work so what the heck is going on costa ambleside? If you can't staff this cafe and offer a proper service, not yo mention not abusing the environment with your takeaway cups, please close down, move out and give someone else a chance Snowflake central won't be back.

We stayed in line for nearly 45 minutes jyst to order 3 drinks and to get one porridge. When we got to the front, we were told that they couldn't warm up the porridge due to "covid reasons", yet they were warming up toasties out of the packaging. I asked for a white hot chocolate and when she made a normal hot chocolate, I told her politely that she made the wrong one. The lady tutted at me, grabbed the cup and threw it in the sink. Not only that she never cleaned the milk jug the entire time we were there, leading us to have stomach problems due to the contamination of normal milk in the skimmed milk. All our drinks were overflowing and not even warm enough to enjoy. The milk was dried to the cup from other people drinking and the toilets were more dirty than the toilets in the woods. The staff kept on stopping everything just to talk to eachother for minutes on end and the whole service was incredibly chaotic. Never going back there again.

The Staff were so disrespectful, the drinks cost double that they normally would,they took ages taking small orders and were not cleaning jugs inbetween drinks, when the "Lady" messed up the drink I ordered she threw the cup in the sink and sighed loud. when l finally got my coffee it was stone cold, also the drink I ordered was just filled with caramel and cream barely any drink inside. they also used normal milk instead of skimmed,and they told me they weren't going to warm up the porridge because of "covid" yet none of the staff had a problem heating up anyone else's food.

Called in for some take out coffees. Good staff and nice to have the option of Oatmilk. The staff seemed expert at what they were doing.

Called in today for a quick coffee and was served by a very friendly and helpful young man (can’t remember his name unfortunately). Several people in so a warm atmosphere but could actually hear a conversation too as it wasn’t too loud.

Always get a warm welcome here by the staff. But they never seem to have any sandwiches or many cakes when I visit!

Great coffee as usual but my first time in a Costa that wasn't a service station since lockdown. So missing my fav bacon, brie,& cranberry panini but sausage toastie works just fine.

The only available toilet (the other was permanently locked) was in need of cleaning. Was told the table in the window with a laptop on it, surrounded by sofas "was a staff table cos they have no where else to sit" despite several ordinary tables and chairs being available. Come on Costa, customers first?

Just like to say thank you to Lauren who worked on her own on Boxing Day in the Ambleside shop. She had a smile on her face the whole time whilst serving a long line of people. Excellent customer service - she should get a bonus for working alone on such a busy day. A credit to your company

£7.20 for a hot choc seems very expensive and we stupidly ordered 4. £2 for a flake and £2 for a small squirt of cream, plus the hot chocolate. I think that will have to be our last Costa visit as we have a mortgage to pay.

Terrible service and not even that busy. People in the queue walking out they got sick of waiting so long.

Ordered mocha, received I don't know what. First time I've had to trow out cup in to bin.

Costa Coffee, great atmosphere, where I drink their tea, the coffee is great, but for me the tea is even better, and cheaper.

Popped in here as wanted a quick coffee and hot chocolate before walking the The Waterfalls. Staff very friendly and nothing too much trouble. Drinks were lovely and hot .

I know I went in for coffee but I had also hoped to pick up a piece of cake. Very limited choice. The initial order had to be remade as the person making the drink did not read the order. They could not take Costa e-cards. Not the usual experience I have from the Costa chain.

It's Costa coffee not much more to say really but it's not one of the better ones. Coffee always seems weak and staff don't seem to listen when you order, as you have to keep repeating yourself for them to get an order of 2 coffee's correct.

Visited Ambleside costa coffee shop yesterday, the service was poor the coffee was luke warm. My husband's saucer had nearly as much coffee on it as was in his cup!.... the floor was dirty and hadn't been swept in a while, very very disappointed as this used to be a lovely coffee shop.

Absolutely shocking service today, my elderly mother wanted a coffee and was asked to leave as she had her dog with her! I am disgusted by this service by costa as a lot of people have dogs and hers sadly has special needs! Disgusting!

Popped in here twice whilst in Ambleside for a coffee as weather was bad with my wife. Really nice coffee and will get one for the road home when we leave.

Best Costa in St Annes. Not only great tasting coffee, But the most important is ,the sevice from the team of staff always cheerful and frienly.

Always try Costa if we go somewhere else x

Left home an hour early to come for a coffee with a friend, before work. Lights in, door open, staff in. " Not open till 9am" What?? From January 9am opening effectively means, " don't care about locals." We start work at 9am, so no longer able to enjoy a coffee before work. No where in Ambleside opens in winter at a reasonable time for locals. Even 8.30 would be better. Thanks for nothing Costa, you just lost regular morning customers.

Reailable consistency of goods provided

The only place open on Xmas Eve afternoon in Ambleside doing tea. A welcome warm up after a full day's fell walking in the mist and drizzle.

Visited about two weeks ago and although the staff are friendly, paying premium price for coffee that is served in a paper cup really is not expected. No choice offered, or any reason given, for having to drink out of these receptacles rather than a proper cup. There is a taste to them, and if you have to take away a coffee then that's OK you accept that. The newer paper cups are much thinner and unless you have the lid on when drinking, the sides do squeeze together and become unstable. Coffee and staff were OK, but cup and aftertaste certainly not, hence 2 stars.

Really pleasantly surprised with my visit earlier today! I usually like Costa anyway but the staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble! Thank you to all the staff and keep up the good work! 😊 I'll be back in the future x

Acabo de llegar a tomar un café rápido.Hubo un problema con el uso de la máquina de café, involucrando a un nuevo miembro del personal (creo). Sin embargo, todos se disculparon y fueron amables.El restaurante real era bastante cómodo, pero me sentí un poco descuidado y triste para mí.Yo uso una Costa local y el personal también es muy amable y agradable. ¡Quizás Costa tenga un buen sistema de entrenamiento o simplemente emplee personas agradables!

Aprecio que el café tenga que ser molido, espumoso con leche, etc. pero 2 miembros del personal, uno haciendo bebidas y una porción fue una broma. 3 personas frente a mí y para cuando me sirvieron, las dos personas detrás de mí se habían ido, pero todavía había 3 más esperando ser atendidas. Lo que habría ayudado era que la señora de la caja ayudara con las bebidas.

Este es uno de los buenos.Llamé un lunes húmedo por la mañana, antes de ir de compras y a mi alojamiento en otro lugar.Pedí mi bebida y pan tostado, para ser informado de que no hay tostadas marrones. No fue un factor decisivo, había sido un buen fin de semana de buen tiempo. A la espera de la entrega?Buena bebida, bien hecha.Esto parece ser una sucursal, que emplea mucho personal y tiene una buena dinámica de equipo. Lo que trae un servicio bueno, rápido y cortés.La limpieza fue buena. El lugar estaba limpio y bien mantenido.Costa puede ser impredecible. En esta ocasión, esto fue un éxito. Parece que lo están entendiendo aquí mismo.

I really enjoy a cup of Costa coffee, probably my favourite brand and today was no different. However, as we had our dogs, sitting outside on their two scruffy tables surrounded by smokers somewhat spoiled the experience. As I say I love their coffee but the Ambleside franchise was meh.

My boys and I were at the counter and I got charged a pound extra much dislike he was a proper gimp and dat and there were mad gang wars going on almost got shanked but slipped it and gave him a mad head but. Dead. #runlife #maddat # nothappy

Won a free prize of Hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows, and it was delicious. Lovely staff and a pleasant atmosphere. The toilets were lovely and clean, only minus was the air conditioning which was to hight for a cool day.

I’ve visited many Costa cafés and none comes closer to a comedy of errors as the one in Ambleside. There is always something not quiet right about the service. Nest to the coffee machine it looks like a bomb site. Quiet often the order comes back with something completely different i.e. a capuchinho for a mocha, a hot chocolate for a mocha, a tasteless mess for a cold coffee and it goes on and on. I don’t know what’s going and I can’t figure it out how come a straight forward operation can get so many things wrong so many times. Saving it is the staff that are always pleasant and for it the 2 stars.

Visited today, I have complex allergy requirements, the young dark haired girl that served me was very attentive and painstakingly cleaned equipment containing my allergens before making the nicest soy decaf coffee I have ever tasted in Costa. It was good to see that Costa are aware of allergies and have files readily available for staff to access for ingredients in every product and possible allergens. Very well done Nicole and thank you .

The coffee was good but from the back of the queue to getting your coffee in your hand 30 minutes elapsed. Plenty of seating indoors with a couple of tables outdoors too.

Slow. Dishwasher broken and paper cups. New staff member needed more training.

Fairly spacious and quiet. Coffee and cakes perfectly good, they did serve water in a glass rather than a plastic cup which is another step in the right direction.
