Cosh Bar & Grill in Derry

Had an event in The Cosh Bar & Grill on Saturday. Have to take my hat off to all the staff. The Chefs Emmette, Decky & Decky the food was perfect. From the time of booking nothing was a bother to them all especially the managers Marty & Ruairi. The drinks were flowing the bar staff especially decky and the floor staff done amazingly well and keeping every single guest happy. Thanks the everyone involved in the run up also for going above and beyond and making the day so special. Ps. Yous have a lot of Deckys. 😉

Not a spot for a funeral reception even when you booked The bereaved party arrived and the funeral party did not receive the food that they ordered They had to leave and a local establishment “Molly Malones” at short notice gave food to the family and friends congratulations to them

Feeling completely let down and disappointed . We organised food to be served after our sisters funeral today at The Cosh Bar & Grill. Food to be served at 2pm all organised. I messaged back we might be a early as it’s a cold day but that sounds good. We arrived in good time and waited. We had the members from Stage Beyond Theatre Company who were so important to the day, and we had told their families they would be having lunch with us, we had parents, who needed to pickup kids from school . We asked and inquired as to when the food would be served. Five minutes they said. Food never arrived. It ended up with the manager pointing the finger at the kitchen staff. And blaming us for a last minute booking ( it was funeral) and we contacted them on Monday we were reminded it was very last minute. I have never encountered a more unprofessional setup in my life . The manager pointed the blame at the kitchen staff , in all my years In catering, the buck stops with the manager. We were blamed, accused and embarrassed. It’s up to the manager to sort it out. We didn’t need blame ,we needed service. We booked with the options they gave us. So go and sort out your management. Do not let the customer have to try and sort things out after burying their sister. ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. So can I add a massive THANK YOU, to Mollys in ballymac who managed to fit us in, feed us and treat us with respect. You are Amazing . What we needed xxx

Eravamo gli unici italiani presenti... E questo era già un elemento molto positivo. Il locale era molto grande e con un ampio menù di carne e di pesce. Abbiamo preso il salmone e la Guinness steak pie, entrambi veramente buoni.

My siblings and I live in New York and Leeds but when we return home to Buncrana we always visit sometimes twice in 1 week.The staff are so accomodating and friendly and nothing is a bother to them. My brother in law loves the steak pie and the salmon is also good.Dishes and very nicely garnished and service is very timely. Highly recommend

Lately my family and i have been going to the cosh bar and grill Derry. The food and service are outstanding. The meals are reasonably priced, plenty on the plate and piping hot. Will gladly recommend it. AT55JDT

Food arrived cold on cold plates. The sides and sauces were hot thankfully. Staff are friendly and could not do enough for the customers. Please warm the plates before putting food on them.

So disappointed as used to be my fav place to eat food was unreal, went sunday my god sack the chef please! First got turkey dinner which was freezen, the took it back took roasties of plate and drown in gravy🤢 my friend got chickn gougons and 100% chickn was gone of I tried 2nearly vomited, told girl and she just said sorry🤔 so just got up and left will be in no rush back

I've been a regular diner at the cosh for years and can't believe how badly it's gone downhill in terms of customer service. We were booked in for 6.15pm, waited half an hour before our order was taken, then the food wasn't served until 7.20pm. One waitress came and started clearing the table while a member of the party was still eating, lifted 3 or 4 plates then left to do something else, leaving us waiting another 5 or 10 minutes for the rest of the dishes to be cleared by another member of staff. We then had to ask yet another member of staff for a dessert menu, and wait another 10 minutes before that order was taken. When the desserts hadn't arrived I had to ask a member of staff to check and was then told it would be another 5 minutes. At no point were we offered another chance to order a drink, nor did anybody check on us despite being seated next to the kitchen in clear view of all staff. All this time spent waiting there were 4 or 5 staff members stood gossiping at the bar, making an excellent effort to ignore all customers. By the time we left it was 8.45pm, a full 2 and a half hours after our booking time which is completely unreasonable when there were multiple staff working and the restaurant wasn't even busy on a Tuesday night. When we pointed out the slow service upon leaving we didn't get so much as an apology. Such a shame because the food was very nice, as usual, but the abysmal service would put me off ever going back.

Attended a private function last night and Maolisa was amazing. She was so funny, professional and chatting to everyone. She really made our night! Everything from music, food and bar staff were top notch ! Pass on our thanks to Maolisa for us!

We always go to the cosh but service was lacking this evening and only 2 tables in, order came wrong and forgot a dish completely, never asked if wanted more drink, cleared plates and we had ask for dessert menus, waited half hour 2 young unhappy girls never asked us kept slouching about ignoring us, got up left paid bill lady bar asked was everything ok we told her and she said oh dear I’ll say to them but was obviously that wasn’t going happen, no main person checking anything Disappointed

I have visited the Cosh bar and grill regularly over the years, there was a few issues with my previous visit (slow service - dessert took that long we decided to leave) but decided to return as i do usually love it here. The service this time was atrocious - staff are spending far too long gossiping and not attending to their customers. I couldn’t even get someone’s attention to get a drink, drinks order was wrong when it did arrive, when the food arrived it was cold and had to be sent back. The staff were also very unprofessional- continuing conversations with each other whilst trying to take an order from our table - and a smile wouldn’t go a miss! About 2/3 young girls were the only ones doing a bit of work. Very disappointed and fair to say I won’t be back!

We went to the Cosh on boxing day for a lovely family meal. It had a real family atmosphere with football on all the screens.We had mains only which were all lovely. The salt and chilli chicken dish that I had was excellently flavoured with spices. The service was brilliant and fast. Wwe weren't waiting long at all. Marty and the team did a brilliant job. I stayed on for a few drinks with friends in the evening and Lauren provided us with table service throughout and made us feel very welcome. We will be back

As good as the food can be on cold plates half the staff walk around maskless with phony exemption cards around their neck if you are fit enough to manage a busy bar get your bloody mask on and people seated at the bar drinking Hospitality are the main whiners about restrictions yet they don't or won't follow simple rules to keep all of us safe As a vunerable person who wears a mask ,I will never go there again

Went here as a family of 3 for a nice Sunday meal….. as I was waiting on my food I needed to use the bathroom as I’m heavily pregnant on the way back a bar tender almost took me off my feet by banging into me rather than stopping to let me by and apologise he continued on no apology or manners to let me past him which left me so angry I’m heavily pregnant so hard to miss…. We waited almost 20 mins before anyone came to take our order the girl who eventually came to take our order continued to wipe her nose with her hand on way by didn’t see any hand washing which put me off also thank god was another server brought our food, we didn’t order any starters just mains which took a considerable amount of time to come out and wasn’t overly busy at this point we were there at the table for 1hr and 30 mins and all we had was mains food was nice in arrival but service let the experience down big time won’t be back due to how bad the service was….. not one of the staff we came across had one ounce of manners

My new Wife and I were lucky enough to have The Cosh as our wedding reception venue, and I literally couldn't have asked for a better experience. Marty, and every other member of staff, were incredible. They listened to what we wanted and made it incredibly simple to plan and get what we needed. The food was plentiful and immaculate, a fact which has been reiterated by every guest we have spoken to. The venue itself was absolutely stunning, spacious and warm. It was a spectacular place to celebrate our special day, and i am beyond glad that we chose there. So thank you to everyone at The Cosh. We will forever recommend you to anyone and everyone.

Had a lovely meal here yesterday with my wife. From the moment we walked in the door untill we left the staff wer very very helpful. The bar man rauri was a pleasure to talk to extremely helpful. The food was outstanding and it couldn't be faulted. Would highly recommend

This was my 1st time eating out in the Cosh, bringing a friend from down the country, well all I can say is I was embarrassed! During the week I had booked at table for 7pm, on arrival, the man on the door muttered under his breath to go to the bar!…. Me nor my friend did not want a drink we were there for something to eat, anyways we stood on when a waitress approached us and asked if we were ok? I said no I’d booked a table and he said something about the bar? He then came up behind her and said “ yeah I said go to the bar “ I said I didn’t want a drink” what’s the issue? Is the table not ready? He said go to the bar and I’ll get u there!??……. Sooooo we proceeded to the bar….. stood 20 mins bring ignored!…. Other people had come up to the bar after us and was being served before us!….. bar man stood pouring a pint in front of my friend ( that had seen us standing ages) and completely ignored him! Thars when I said no come away from the bar this isn’t acceptable. Later we where seated at probably the worst seat in the place🙄 we ordered veg soup which came at baby temperature…… steak sandwich was main course, ordered at well done, again, baby food temperature and raw! My friend didn’t want to cause as scene, so we just left……. I am trained and experienced in the hospitality sector, and I’ve nvr seen service and staff as bad! Needless to say I will not be back here!

It was my first and will definitely be the last time visiting Ireland - sectarianism is alive and well at this venue and a no blacks no dogs no Irish sign would be welcome on the front door it seems

We holidayed close by in self catering accommodation so there were many visits to this establishment over the week by the 14 family members on holiday. Food was excellent, tasty and value for money. None of us would fault the quality or quantity of food...

Ate here Saturday afternoon. Food was lovely. We were both delighted with our choices. But what stood out was the customer service. Every member of staff we interacted with were friendly courteous and genuinely wanted to to help. Will definitely be back.

This is our four time been here and we love it as always. The food is fabulous and the staff is very friendly. We love the dinner and the desserts as well, we will be back hopefully next year on our trip back up north.

Returned after a few months to find prices up food down5 goujons with a side of 10 chips is not worth £10. Apparently the Bentley too is the same the biggest rip off was a so called toffee and chocolate meringue might aswel been a tesco meringue mini with 1 malteser aand a blob of cheap icecream no fresh cream All for the fab price of £4.25 a disgrace

Gran almuerzo Me decepcionó saber que no hacían el desayuno. Pero el personal era genial. Celebramos a nuestra novia y una fiesta de novios en el Cosh para todos nuestros invitados a la boda. La gran sala de actos es impresionante. Nada fue demasiado para el personal y la gerencia organizaron la comida para todos. La bruja era deliciosa y había un montón de cosas que solucionaron el entretenimiento. y el Dj para nosotros organizamos esta fiesta desde Londres, todo el proceso fue muy fácil y todo fue para que el personal del plan sea tan útil que definitivamente utilizaremos este servicio de primera clase. Stopped off here for a quick bite to eat on the way to Donegal. The staff were very welcoming and helpful but the food was terrible.

great restaurant good staff . prompt service in a friendly and modern enviroment. i have tried most derry restaurants and this by far is the best. reasonable priced food good selection and drink.

This is a classic pub grub place, food is well cooked and not over complicated at a great price. Recommend the calamari starter perfect. Service is also great with that warm Derry welcome well done guys.

Wir haben hier am Samstag im Erdgeschoss einen betriebsamen, lauten Pub mit entsprechender Karte kennengelernt und am Sonntag im ersten OG wie die Einheimischen in einem großen Saal das Abendessen zu uns genommen.

We ate here two nights while staying at a nearby B&B; wife and a couple we were traveling with. Food was universally good, though the first night, my chicken and ham pie could have been a lot hotter. My wife got the special both nights and she enjoyed them both.

Came here myself today for a bite to eat. From I came in the door there was a great atmosphere. I was seated near the bar which was good as I could see all around me and didn't feel as I was eating alone so much. Got served straight away and opted for the "daily special". It didn't disappoint at all, was pipping hot, great portion size and delicious. Beautiful establishment and well run. Staff can't do enough for you even tempting me into their tasty banoffee pie. Will be back soon. I think I've found a little gem to eat in..

A group of five of us called in for eats. We had to wait in the bar for a table to become available upstairs. After 10 minutes we were called, given a table and menus. I choose a main course from the specials board which consisted of salmon, veg, roastie and mash. The waitress was very pleasant and when I asked for a few roasties instead of mash she said it was no problem. When my food arrived I only got one roastie, little veg and the salmon. Would have been better off going to the chippy. Had I been told that I couldn't substitute I would have gone elsewhere.

We always used to eat at Harry's, unfortunately they no longer serve food. Tried Cosh on Friday and were very impressed with the food and the service. My husband had the special of surf and turf, steak cooked to perfection. Only slight problem was tobacco onions. He said they weren't as good as mine!!! Could have been cooked longer. I had the chicken satay skewers, beautifully spicy. With salad and naan bread no need for a side!!! Oh my husband managed to eat my side along with his!!!! See you soon.

My family enjoyed our meal here, dining in a comfortable setting with good food and service. The manager stopped by and chatted for a few minutes and recommended the Bogside History Tour, and we are so glad he did. If you dine here, ask if the owner of the tour company is at the bar. You won't be sorry.

We visited the Cosh today for a quick bite to eat with family. The place was busy and we were told we would have to wait about 20 minutes which we didn’t mind but unfortunately it ended up being 45 minutes. Once seated and weordered our food it then took another 1 hour for our food to come out. The 4 turkey and ham dinners were not warm And the salt and chilli chicken was more like dried out chicken strips with no taste and noodles with soy sauce, rotten. When paying I let the staff know we weren’t happy and the manager offered some free desserts. 2 chocolate fudge cake slices and 2 cheesecake slices. I wish she hadn’t of bothered as the cheesecake was sour and completely inedible. So disappointing. Won’t be back.

Ordered Chicken Satay skewers as I had these before and they were lovely. The meal and accompanying salad (lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber) seemed lacking in taste and I had to ask for dressing. This was a pesto dressing that did not go well with the rest of the food. I decided to go and get the menu and discovered that there should have been an oriental salad and garlic mayo with the dish. When the waitress asked was the meal ok I pointed this out to her. She said that they didn’t serve the dish that way anymore and it was a long time since they did. I suggested that maybe the menu should be updated. She should have pointed this out on ordering. We paid for our food in full while she could be heard complaining loudly at the kitchen area. Customer service was terrible and because of her rudeness at the end, we will not be back.

We attended here yesterday to get something to eat as the kids were at a nearby birthday party. When we arrived we were told that the table for 3 would be 20mins which we decided to wait.. what was refreshing was that after about 5mins they advised our table was ready to this was welcomed. I ordered the steak and Guinness pie with Mash and Peppered Sauce and my wife had the chilli chicken stack with salt n Chili chips. The food was lovely and safe and I was glad my pie wasn't meat in a bowl with a puff pastry lid as I hate that. Food is reflective of the price and is nice in which I would have no hesitation to return again.

I visited there today as i have frequently , the food was gorgeous as was the restaurant, but as usual the staff was horrible especially the small dark haired woman , and also a young girl with long dark hair, i come in often as i love the food, but today was the last time for me , the staff would need a bit of training in customer service they are rude snd unpleasant, also to see staff drinking and eating at the bar is a bit unprofessional , im not sure if there is a manager in this place, and if there is then he not doing his job very well , i actually felt to ask for anything was a bother and got no reply

Excellent as usual, looked forward to returning with family, was not disappointed, food choice and quality amazing, staff cannot do enough for you, love this place and will definitely be back on my next visit.

Good, simple bar food. Staff very friendly and checked on us numerous times to make sure we didn't need anything. Even called a taxi for us to get back to our B&B;.

Nice food I diffanty be back the onely problem I had was I felt a bit rushed a part form that good experience

We arrived to cosh after driving a distance for the food as we always enjoy it.. Today however wasn't the same. Went in and we where told 20 minute wait for a table which we happily sat at the bar and waited for 10 minutes before being shown to out seat, ordered our food and it had arrived in no time at all- the food was not to fault, everything about it was great! The table in front of us had ordered and got their starters before us, as I'm a waitress myself I piled the plates and put to the end of the table where a waitress passed and took them away- however the table in front had to wait until we nearly had our main course to even get their starter plates lifted. When we finished our dinner (in which time no one had done a call back to see was everything OK) I piled the plates up and sat them at the edge of the table as I was so looking forward to a desert! Ten minutes later someone collected our plates and I asked could we see the desert menu.. She said OK and took our plates into the kitchen and took us back out a menu, more or less throwing it on the table not even telling us the cheesecake. I understand they were busy at the time however a little goes a long way.. Another ten minutes after the menu sitting in front of us and numerous staff walking past I got up and asked the lady at the door could we order desert she said she would be over soon "aye just two minutes" another lady came over and took our order.. After taking our order she came over and again more or less threw the docket down along with a spoon.. No napkin, just a spoon. The desert came out again within minutes thanks to the kitchen being so quick, I asked for another spoon for my partner which was also thrown down on the table.. In total we waited 35 minutes for a desert which should have just been a 15 minute wait at the most as they where busy- the standard of service in this place was so bad! We will be back for the food but defiantly not for the service!

Firstly I have been writing up in TripAdvisor for years and I do get to travel a bit and I love giving my experiences to other travellers and restaurant goers.The Cosh in Derry City was one of the worst experiences ever and I'm sorry to say it's in my own home town, this place really shouldn't be serving food and their staff should be retrained in customer service.I was invited for a party here yesterday it looked inviting but far to packed, tables were to close together but thankfully because I was apart of a large party we were situated upstairs which was fine plenty of room.I asked for a jug of water which after a little bit arrived the waitress sat it at the end of a table then placed two stacks of four glasses also so when we sat down the glasses went fly and shattered every where we didn't know the table was uneven on the floor they are lucky they aren't facing a court action today if any children had of been there they wouldn't have escaped injury.The food arrived about 50 minutes after the order was taken, some had starters but we added on that time as well it was far to long of a wait, the food partially came out leaving food cold by the time side orders arrived , it was not good enough and we were far from happy. The food wasn't special it was very bland and over cooked. I had roast chicken which was so dried out that is was tough, I had to order extra potatoes as I was so hungry because the chicken couldn't be eaten. Vegetarian options was limited to one option and that was far from appetising uncooked vegetables and no spice at all in it, and it was called spicy pasta. Then desert took at least 25/30 minutes to arrive some didn't get theirs until much later then one arrived very late the ice cream had melted all over the plate and the cake was thrown in the middle when asked to take it back the staff were rude and chatted between themselves before replacing it.Over all the place wasn't the cleanest they obviously were very under staffed so much so to clean in between service I really was disgusted yesterday what should have been a lovely day turned up far from it. I always give an honest view of a place and maybe give it a second chance but when arriving home last night I read through past reviews here about this place they obviously don't listen nor care about their feed back that is why I won't ever be back here again.Please keep your money there are far better restaurants out there that will welcome you and give you the service which your paying for.

We were recommended by the b&b we r staying at as we are from Waterford. The food was fantastic and staff were very friendly. We will be back again before we head home.

I was here today as part of a large group for a baby shower. The customer service was terrible. The food took 50 minutes to arrive. The Sunday lunch menu had one vegetarian option, the spicy vegetable pasta. First off, it wasn't spicy and it was full of huge chunks of barely cooked veg. Not nice and one option for vegetarians is a bit ridiculous. The desserts took about half an hour to arrive and two were missing and it took a further 15 minutes for those two desserts to show up. They gave my aunt (who's dessert showed up last) a plate of melted ice cream with the cake slapped in the middle. When we asked for another one the waitress was very rude and decided to discuss this with her colleagues rather than go down and get another dessert. When she came back up with it, 50 minutes after it was ordered she just slapped it down on the table without a word. Cheeky to say the least. I'll not be back in the Cosh ever.

Je eet hier in een PUB achtige omgeving. Vriendelijk personeel en goed en goedkoop eten. Wij aten met drie personen, alleen hoofdgerecht en drinken, voor ongeveer 30-35 pond.

Excellent service and food, staff efficient and knowledgeable, value for money was amazing, visited twice while on holiday for a few days, I am already looking forward to going back!!

Ordered Blackened salmon, which comes with noodles, which I hate, instead of baked salmon .When It came out , I said to the waiter, "my fault I've ordered the wrong dish", "no problem" he said, he replaced it in about 3minutes, free of charge.Great place, excellent service

Dont go near this place as it is horrible and terrible. This place shud come with a health warning starters wer ok! The mains were terrible ! My chicken burger woz burnt, the bap woz hard, the girlfriends lasagne seemed woz burnt on top and the chef took the burnt top layer off and added more cheese hoping for the best. Also the chef was using bad potatoes for there chip which they were black inside them. My childs meal was that over cooked u wudnt serve that muck to a dog. Will not be back was the worst meal we have eatin. the chef should not b in that line of business he should b ashamed of himself. Do not go near this place as it is horrible and terrible

I had to spend some time in The Cosh today while waiting on a friend. It was my first visit and I decided to do some work on my laptop - there were no free sockets but Rosie my waitress used her initiative and got me plugged in behind the bar while I was able to work, drink and eat at a nearby table. When my friend arrived Rosie was on hand again to take orders, ensured we were both comfortable and served us a delicious meal. The service attitude and abilities of both Rosie and Conor, the barman, are a delight to see in restaurants today. Nothing was too much trouble and their demeanour was to be as helpful as possible. Oh that all restaurants had staff as excellent as these two. Great ambassadors for the Cosh Bar and Grill.

The Cosh was recommended to us at our B&B where we stayed nearby. The exterior was very nice and the parking was full, usually a good sign. Once we arrived we were immediately seated and then ignored while more people arrived, were seated and waited on. Finally, a waitress strolled up and asked if we wanted a drink. Then we waited again. Another wait after that to give our order. Another wait for the food. Our server was nowhere to be found. At this point we just wanted to leave and couldn't locate anyone to pay. The food was "ok" the service was terrible. I don't recommend the establishment.

Great service. Very prompt and didnt have to wait long for order. Food fresh, tasty and great value. Good portion size. Nice ambience in restaurant.

Very good food with helpful staff , nice atmosphere and will def be returning again , maybe next time i might have a few more beers and sit on and enjoy the entertainment
