Impeccable. The Cornish Arms is a wonderful establishment. I've eaten here a number of times and will always come back for the food, which is always incredible. Having stayed recently, the experience surpassed my high expectations. The team will brighten the dullest of days and the rooms are absolutely on point.

New Years Eve meal. I was very surprised to get a table on new years eve as I'd left it late to book somewhere. Was thrilled to get a table and the food and service did not disappoint. I had the pate to start and the chicken curry for my main. Both were lovely, the chicken curry was delicious and one of the best curries I've ever had. I did have a dessert of pear and apple trifle but I really didn't need it as I was full but this was also very good . Service was excellent. Will definitely be back .

Nice place but ridiculously overpriced drinks and arrogant management, nothing special but think they can over charge for drinks as there are few alternatives in Tavistock, go over the road to Wetherspoons, a shame because they accept dogs but have the arrogance of being overpriced and thinking that it's some kind of ' special place but it's not

Firstly the food is absolutely amazing though not cheap. The staff are very polite and can’t do enough to make your dining experience the best it can be. The rooms are so nice especially if you have one of the big rooms with the freestanding baths. Location is fab right in the centre of Tavistock and only a cpl of miles and you are deep on Dartmoor. The rooms are really comfy with a rainfall shower in the ensuite bathroom. Bathrobes and toiletries are provided. The bar and waiting staff are really friendly and they serve an excellent selection of beer and wine. The food is superb. I had egg yolk raviolo, followed by lamb belly and devilled kidneys, then the raspberry soufflé for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious, but my only niggle would be that I had barely put my cutlery down after finishing my starter and the waitress was at my table wanting to clear it. I'm all for attentive service, but I prefer a couple of minutes after finishing a course before the plates are cleared. Breakfast was really tasty too, with plenty to choose from. I was still full from the night before so I just went for the full Cornish. All in all a great place to stay and eat. Its a shame I live 350 miles away or I'd be eating here all the time!

Excellent service excellent food. It is not cheap, but the price reflects the quality of the food and the service. Comfortable and not packed close to fit in as many tables as possible. Nestled in the picturesque heart of Tavistock, Devon, The Cornish Arms is a quintessentially British pub that has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand accolade. While it doesn't quite ascend to the culinary heights of Michelin-starred establishments, it remains a beloved local haunt for its great fare and congenial atmosphere. The menu is a heartfelt ode to British classics, with particular highlights being the fish & chips and the sumptuous Sunday roast. For us the standout was the raspberry soufflé, which was nothing short of amazing during our visit. However, the execution of some dishes can sometimes miss the mark. For instance, the roast potatoes that accompanied the Sunday roast were disappointingly overcooked and blackened, detracting from an otherwise enjoyable meal. Additionally, although The Cornish Arms does offer a vegan menu and vegetarian options, this area could benefit from further refinement and creativity to meet the same standard as the rest of their offerings and other top Devon pubs like The Agricultural Inn & The Thatched Tavern, (Maidencombe). Where The Cornish Arms truly shines is in its ambiance. The interior is a good blend of rustic charm and traditional pub aesthetics, boasting exposed wooden beams and a spacious beer garden perfect for alfresco dining. The pub also features a variety of unique and interesting casual dining areas, each with its own distinct character, adding to the overall inviting atmosphere. Contrary to some reviews that flagged this place as expensive with small portions, we found the pricing to be great value and the dish sizes to be spot on. Drinks aficionados will find much to appreciate in the pub's extensive selection of regional brews, prominently featuring options from St Austell Brewery and other local artisans. Luscombe hot ginger beer worth a mention - excellent. The service is another standout feature, rivalling the attentiveness and professionalism you'd expect at a Michelin-starred restaurant. The staff go above and beyond in their efforts to make guests feel welcomed and at ease, contributing significantly to the pub's irresistible allure. In summary, while The Cornish Arms may not be a destination for haute cuisine, it stands as a solid choice for those seeking classic British food, an exceptional drinks selection, and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. If you're in the mood for a laid-back evening rather than a fine dining experience, this charming local institution comes highly recommended.

Came here for food last night with a couple of friends & all three of us thoroughly enjoyed it. For starters I had the Scotch egg, cooked perfectly and paired with the small blue cheese salad it was a great choice. The chicken curry for main was one of the best curries I've eaten at a restaurant ( aside from a curry house ). Full of flavour, chicken thigh meat used & the home made tzatziki went well with the flat bread and I felt fat at full come the end! Didn't really need a dessert in all honesty but couldn't resist. You can't go wrong with a sticky toffee pudding either right! Finished off with a coffee, one of the best meals I've eaten out in a long time. Service was decent and the restaurant itself is a nice setting also. Looking forward to coming back!

Can't comment on the rooms as we just had dinner here but the food was outstanding. The service was also fantastic and attentive without being over bearing. We sat in the bar as we brought our dog. We felt incredibly welcome and had a wonderful time. The food was sublime, fwe started with a taramasalata nibble we shared, then I had the ox cheek raviolo which was accompanied by the most unctuous sauce and so good. My partner raved about her pea soup. Then I had the curry which was so tender it fell apart and all the accompanying bits were perfect. Especially the bread and fluffy rice. My partner had the sea bream which was cooked to perfection. We shared a treacle tart with blue cheese and both had a coffee and left stuffed and without a single complaint or even a niggle. The Cauliflower dish was incredible! Some people were keen to have a dessert however, staff effectively ignored us once our main had been served so we just got the bill and departed. UPDATE: Visited on 7 May 2022 Still brilliant. The quality of the food was excellent although prices have obviously jumped a bit. 3 course meal with small nibbles and 3 main courses was £75. The curry is still the best in the west and the mushy peas on the Fish and Chips are still amazing. I have to say this was one of the great places that I've eaten. We've lived in Tavistock for 6 months and this was our first meal at the Cornish. The reception is always friendly and the chap behind the bar with the beard and slight look of Bill Bailey was excellent in greeting us and organisation our drinks whilst his colleague sorted out the table. We then ordered the chorizo and hummus starter which we shared between two. Delicious although looking at the olives and bread being taken to other tables we thought maybe we'd missed out. We then had quite a wait before the waiter came to apologise for the delay and announce that the chef was not happy with the Monk fish. We were slightly perturbed but ordered the confit of duck instead. I had the fish and chips. When they arrived they were absolutely delicious. The fish was in an ale batter which was light and crispy and yet the fish was firm with a tender bite. The pea puree was the best part of the meal for me which had a pea texture and pea flavour which, strange though it sounds, means that it tastes far better than the mushy pea disasters you get from your average restaurant. The Cornish is not pretentious but serves great food.. Anyway the service was excellent and for a starter, 2 main courses and 2 drinks it cam to £45. That is a bargain. We'll be going again then. Thank you!!

The food is good and we received a warm welcome and service from (presumably) the manager throughout, however I can’t help but feel the service overall can be sharper. The last couple of times we’ve visited little things have been slow; taking our food order, clearing plates (mains were left for almost 20 minutes after finishing), the dessert menu being forgotten and having to ask for it. I also noticed things like this upon our last visit. The wait staff seem to look busy but without actually engaging eye contact with diners. The mushroom gnocchi, while delicious and a quite rich, still could have afforded to be a bigger portion for value. I ended up nicking companions’ chips and burger bread as a filler! Improve these small things and it would be a 5* restaurant.

Place for the cosiest English pub experience + dog friendly and they have a fire place. Sophisticated gastropub menu with many vegetarian/vegan/gluten free options. Fantastic wine list and knowledgeable barmen will help you to make a choice and expand your wine horizons. I dreamt of their haddock omelette but it was sold out. My roasted Hake for a main was fantastic though. Perfectly cooked fish topped with slightly crunchy slow dried cavolo Nero and brown butter shrimp sauce - that was a treat. Bread basket was insanely good. All breads were freshly baked and made from the scratch. We especially enjoyed the potato and nigella seeds one. Our friend is gluten and lactose intolerant but the staff was understanding and she was very happy with the choice they helped her with. They are dog friendly and even if something goes wrong and you can’t book a dog friendly space online - do give them a call and the staff will sort it out for you.

The food was excellent, undoubtedly on the pricy side but definitely enjoyed it. Service for most part was excellent too, just slightly spoiled by a waiter at the end questioning why we needed more than one tiny pot of milk for three coffees. Heh ho!

Delicious food. The best best best sticky toffee pudding I've ever had (and I've had lots as I will always order it if it's on a menu!)

This is our local Coffee shop, we now default to this over any other. Highly recommended, lovely staff. Admittedly we are quite regular customers now, it has gotten to the point our order is predictable. Highly recommend the combination of Cheesy Chips and medium oat mocha (1 shot oat latte and 2 shot oat mocha pictured). Vegan options for those with dietary restrictions etc as well, and will modify the strength of coffees should you have any issues with caffeine. Parking is available either long stay for 4hrs at £2 or shorter stay for around the same at the nearby Russell Street. Hi to Natasha, Rachel and the gang, see you in the week (work allowing :3)
