Decor, atmosphere, food, drink, warmth and efficiency of service. You delivered in everything. Snacks, mains and dessert were all sublime. Great drinks menu too.

Possibly the best roast I have ever had! That is a bold statement but it was fantastic and the service was great too. Will definitely be returning.

Visited Tarvin to revisit old haunts. Saw Cornichon and managed to get a last minute reservation. Had such a great time ! The food was absolutely amazing and just the right mix of knowledge, service and humour made it a really positive experience

The most beautiful venue, lovely staff and stunning food. I adore a Sunday Dinner and am super fussy, normally only visiting our 'old faithful'. Decided to have a change today and so glad we did, just stunning! Beautiful pink beef with gorgeous veg and potatoes to compliment. The Chicken burger and fries, equally so. we held our wedding party at the Cornishon, they provided us with 3 rooms, and looked after us from start to finish, and they decorated the rooms before hand, and the food was amazing. Many thanks to all the staff for making our special occasion more special

We have been to Cornichon a number of times & it never fails to deliver. The heritage tomato & buratta starter was tasty & fresh. Followed with the burger, was succulent & flavoursome. Finished with the chocolate pot with salty peanuts was a treat. Keep up the good work & see you again soon !

What a beautiful little restaurant in a quirky setting. A very professionally family run business. Excellent friendly service. Delicious food, very well presented. After travelling down from York for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary, me and my partner booked the Cornichon for our anniversary meal. All the reviews on here said it was amazing and they did not lie! The staff are all lovely and their customer service was incredible, we were seated as soon as we arrived and although we ordered fairly soon after and our food was brought out quickly we did not feel rushed at all. The food was incredible, my partner had the cheeseburger and I had the roast chicken orzo both were cooked perfectly! The building itself is so pretty and the atmosphere was so relaxed with the candles and the dim lights. Would highly suggest going and will definitely recommend to family and friends if they are ever in the area :)

My partner and I went to Cornichon last weekend and would highly recommend. I had both the fish specials including a perfectly cooked whole mackerel. We’d also recommend the chorizo appetisers which disappeared in moments. Good for gluten free and plenty of nearby free on the road parking.

After reading amazing reviews we booked this restaurant with high expectations. The service was very good. The ambiance was lovely too. It reminded me of French restaurants. The food. Ww both had the calamari but my husbands was really salty. I had steak which was good husband had the chicken burger which wasn't anything special. Little over priced. Didn't blow us away.

We enjoyed a perfect hour at The Cornichon sitting outside.The waiter was fantastic & really should be proud knowing that they made our visit to this establishment. This is a gem of a restaurant. Housed in an old bakery, it oozes character and atmosphere. I sat outside with a friend considering the well constructed menu enjoying the sunshine and the charm of the old window. with the old signwriting thoughtfully casting a shadow declaring its name. Inside, the decor is beautiful, its been renovated with great care, preserving the character and charm of the old building. If the food was as good as the surroundings I felt I was in for a treat. Staff were attentive and helpful. The menu, not overwhelming with choice, but with enough for everyone, indicating that the options were well considered and created with care. I opted for a calamari starter, noting a delicious light batter and appreciating the supremely rich and creamy alioli dip which accompanied it. This was followed with a burger, cooked to perfection and so tasty. As everything was so good I just couldnt resist rounding off with dessert, and selected a chocolate mousse with a crunchy peanut topping, which was so delicious in taste and texture, that I had to ask how on earth they achieved it....its a well kept secret which they generously shared with me. The espresso cocktail was the finishing touch to my afternoon delight and it was so good! I just cannot wait to return here. If you ever have a chance to while away a few hours here, grab it and savour it, the whole experience was superb!

Four of us called in for lunch on Saturday. We enjoyed beautifully cooked steaks with delicious vegetables and fries. The staff were all very welcoming and efficient. We would definitely recommend Cornichon and we will be back there.

Just eaten a lovely lunch at Cornichon in Tarvin. The French themed restaurant has character whilst the food served was delicious. Quite the tonic for a wet and cold May Day. The staff were helpful and efficient. In all a great experience

Just so simple .. Very nice people and a great tea & cake. Out cycling in the Cheshire country side, passed a happy fellow cyclist. Stopped for tea and cake, which duly arrived , and as Hugh Grant once said “Its a very good Brownie” and indeed it was. Waitress serving on was delightful and friendly and recognised me as the fellow cyclist who had just passed her on the way to work. All good . ( oh and water on table provided without asking, which is a classy touch).

We have visited multiple times and have always had an excellent meal. Food is always amazing from the Sunday lunch, to steaks and burgers. The service is friendly and efficient even in these strange times and they are great at dealing with nut allergies. Thank you so much to everyone at the cornichon and hopefully see you again soon once we are out of lockdown.

We were walking the Baker Way (Chester to Delamere) and this is the half way point. We stopped on spec for lunch and were warmly welcomed, despite being quite wet and muddy, and having a similarly afflicted dog! Service was attentive, the atmosphere was warm, the food was excellent. We continued on our way cheered and energised.

Visited the Cornichon in Tarvin last Sunday for lunch after a nice stroll on the sandstone trail.Not the cheapest place we have ever eaten, but you get what you pay for... Stunning location, super friendly staff, nice wine list and fantastic food - what more could you want - Can’t wait until the next time.

Delicious Sunday roast here with our dog today. My husband found this place on trip advisor and it did not disappoint it was probably the best Sunday roast Iv ever had everything was so tasty just perfect and the cauliflower cheese was amazing. Just wonderful will 100% be back

Fabulous birthday dinner. Food and service as always excellent. Menu changes on a regular basis and there are usually specials available - always difficult to choose and everything is so delicious! Great atmosphere even with COVID restrictions and good safe social distancing and COVID protocol in place. Have visited multiple times and throughly recommend.

Called in for a quick breakfast, the coffee was excellent, best I have had for a good while. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Asked for well done sausages and lightly done egg, it came perfect and was highly enjoyable. My daughter enjoyed her food also. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, will definitely be coming again. Fantastic experience.

Second visit since they re-opened, I thoroughly enjoyed both occasions. These guys are operating under great duress with limited staff...and still they turn out a great feast. Well done guys.

We booked this after poor service at the Macdonald Portal. What a find and oasis. Lovely staff and a fabulous building and restaurant. My wife is a vegetarian and I often follow her lead on food. The food did not disappoint. All three courses were original and delicious. The Emergency bitter was apt for our circumstances at the Portal and was served with a smile ( even though hidden behind a mask). A terrific evening.

We have visited this place before and had an excellent meal pre covid. I'm sad to say it was terrible and expensive on our last visit. It's a real shame since the staff are nice and service good, but unfortunately that doesnt make up for an awful dining experience. The reduced menu is not doing this place any favours.

Love the roast dinners so much we very rarely visit on a day other than Sunday! Nice relaxed atmosphere, decent background music and friendly staff. We recommend to anyone in the area and take visiting family here too.

Had the Sunday lunch 2 courses and really enjoyed my roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. The glazed carrot was special. Had the side cauliflower cheese which every other table had ordered too and that was excellent too. Can recommend.

Just had a Saturday brunch here.. gorgeous village anyway, building itself decorated beautiful and the food was one of the best breakfasts I’ve eaten!!! Opted for the Vegi English but added Black Pudding, cappuccino & an espresso, literally delicious! We’ll be back ❤️

After searching ‘best Sunday roast in Cheshire’ I found Cornichon. I made an easy reservation via the website then saw that they’re dog friendly so emailed to change my reservation to include the dog. I was even given a choice of where to sit with the dog.I had the roast beef which was cooked perfectly, the roast potatoes were pretty awesome and the cauliflower cheese was scrumptious. The hubby had the cheese burger and really enjoyed it. We then had sticky toffee pudding and poached rhubarb which were so delicious. The dog had her own water bowl ready and waiting and the hubby enjoyed a couple of stouts. The main menu looked fabulous and coupled with the friendly attentive service we know we’ll be making a return visit. They also make as much as they can themselves and what they can’t is sourced from local suppliers all at reasonable prices.The place was pretty full so I recommend booking, despite this they turned us round quickly but it wasn’t rushed.

We came for an early Christmas dinner and were not disappointed. Everything from the blood orange fizz and gordal olives to the sticky pudding was delicious. Between us we had roast cod, pan fried gnocchi and a pork belly special. All were delicious, served warm and promptly, despite the busy evening.

Nice place and food was good but coffees took a while and bacon egg avocados on toast took quite a while and wasn’t busy

Cornichon is a lovely restaurant. All the meals are freshly cooked. We had a vegetarian breakfast and a full English breakfast, both were perfectly cooked and really tasty. I would happy go there again for brunch, lunch or dinner.

This place is so good. The weekday set menu is a great deal and the food is always beautiful-giving Chester’s best restaurants a real run for their money. The service is really friendly and we love the commitment to locally sourcing much of their produce. The best place to go currently in a good radius of Tarvin/Tarporley areas.

We made our first visit to this restaurant recently for Sunday Roast. It is an older building which has been sympathetically renovated. It had a nice subtle vibe. The staff were excellent and very attentive. The food was excellent. I had the Roast Lamb and my hubby had the Roast Beef. Both came with a good selection of veg and a huge Yorkshire pudding! I would highly recommend this restaurant and with free parking on the High Street what's not to love!!

Great evening meal effectively as a walk-in ('booked' 45 mins in advance). I had the goats cheese mousse with figs, hazelnuts and orange beetroot; my dining companion the French onion soup - both excellent. The blue cheese and walnut risotto using pearl barley - again very, very tasty -great mix of texture and taste. The other main was the sea bass. Desserts also great, service attentive - and house water chilled :)

We ate here at the weekend and my wife has informed me that this is now her new favourite restaurant, I must say I am tempted to agree. The place itself has a lovely cozy feel to it, one of those places that just feels comfortable and relaxed as soon as you walk in to the inviting bar area. While it may not be to everyone's taste we personally like smaller menus, a case of doing a few dishes exceptionally well as oppose to trying to do too many things and letting standards slip. That's not to say that the choice is too restrictive either, five or six mains with a couple of specials thrown in was more than enough to choose from and it took us a little while to decide what to have as they all looked amazing as we watched them coming out to other tables. The food was exceptional, genuinely couldn't fault any aspect of any of the dishes we ordered. Add to that a decent and reasonably priced wine list and very friendly staff and what more could you ask for!

We have been here several times in the past but not for a few months. It’s a lovely atmospheric place to eat and in the past we have always enjoyed our meal and had a good time.

We often eat and drink here and it has never disappointed.To keep it brief.....the food, drink variety, price and service are beyond exceptional. I personally love the Keg and craft beer that they have on offer!

Found this lovely restaurant whilst visiting Chester, we pre booked just in case and had the 3 course pre set menu which is served up to 6.30. The food and service was superb and I’d highly recommend. For two it was around £50 for three courses including a drink and coffee each. The decor is old but fresh and was once an old grocery store which has retained a lot of its original features including the store counter.

Pleased we booked as it’s very popular. Ordered a lovely Elderflower drink, had the falafel main with a green salad side which worked very well together. Had a cappuccino for afters. Friendly, unhurried service and really good atmosphere for the second half (first half ruined by spoiled toddlers). Good decor

My teenage children and I visited on a Wednesday - "burger night". Between us we had a chicken burger, a cheese burger and a burger with blue cheese and mushrooms. All were served on homemade buns and each of us declared ours the most delicious. A significant cut above the norm. Starters and desserts also good, especially the sticky toffee pudding. Lovely surroundings in a beautiful Georgian building which has been sensitively and interestingly modernised, and service cheerful and pleasantly attentive. A great experience.

Small brasserie 4 miles from Chester. Went on Friday lunchtime and only 2 other tables occupied. Small bites and starters menu but only limited selection of main courses including flat iron steak,beefburger,lamb salad and plaice. Attentive pleasant service and food of good quality-fish in particular was beautifully fresh. Few sweets with creme brulee and local ice creams. Wouldn't make a specific journey to eat here but enjoyable lunch

We were staying at the pub across the road (the Red lion - definitely worth a visit) and decided to try Cornichon for our evening meal.

Visited when staying in the George and dragon next door. Great service very attentive and the food was great. Price wise very reasonable...

We recently visited the Cornichon for dinner while staying with friends in England. Traveling through England as a vegan was a delight and the Cornichon brought it up a notch! We arrived a little ahead of the dinner crowd and when I told them I was a vegan, the owner said give me a few minutes and I'll have it all sorted. She came back in about 10 minutes (we had been served our drinks) with a menu she obviously just typed up and printed out. I had the ratatouille for dinner and it was the best I've ever had. For my starter I had spiced roasted cauliflower with dukkah and it was also delicious. The meat eaters were also happy!

Took out 13 year old vegetarian granddaughter there for a meal. Really interesting menu with good choices with well planned service times so food arrived very promptly. Really good supply of water to the table too.

Probably the best brunch in Chester. Full breakfast with homemade baked beans. Kids had pancakes with maple syrup, one with bacon and the other with blueberries and cream. Delicious and a very good size. Service is excellent. Will definitely go again!

One of the best Sunday lunches I have ever had. Initially I thought the plate was a bit small with a massive Yorkshire pudding but when I had finished I couldn’t eat anything else. The roast beef was melt in the mouth, Yorkshire so light and fluffy, great roasts with seasonal vey hidden underneath and lovely rich gravy. Nice friendly staff and well worth a visit

Little gem of a place - found whilst staying in near-by Chester. We went on a Thursday evening and it got busy so I’d advise booking beforehand. If you like relaxed characterful places to eat then give this a go. It had a nice vibe to it enhanced by the food which was really good. Our party consisted of 2 adults & a teenager (best burger they’ve had so far)! We also had flat iron steak & lamp rump which were equally delicious. Varied choice of drinks. Service was welcoming and efficient. Finding places like this makes visiting places that little bit more memorable. Would definitely return. Oh and try the cornichons for starters - surprisingly moreish.

This really is an exceptional restaurant. There is a bar area to start, mixing excellent cocktails (try the Dirty Martini), plus lovely craft beers and a good range of wines, plus the other usual spirit suspects of course.

We where taken here for a family party so wasn't sure what to expect, although as our family our local I expected it would be good and I wasn't dissapointed ! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming.We had an upstairs area to ourselves : a room for drinks and one for the meal. I ate off the vegan menu, the food was freshly made ,tasty and well balanced. I hope we will get a chance to go again!
