Corner House Inn in Bridgend

Rubbish, popped in for a drink,stated we weren’t eating just drinks the staff member didn’t take an order but walked away!!!! 2nd staff member asked the same question and again almost walked away until I said “can you take my order”. Terry the local in the meantime came in and his order was taken before mine! Unbelievable, will not return, shocking service.

Just had a wonderful Christmas meal with the family would definitely recommend it from the lovely food to all the staff who were very polite and couldn't do enforcement us definitely will be returning there

I will start with the one and only positive. The food is good. The rest of our experience was awful. Let’s start with the booking. I booked around a ten days in advance of our 30th wedding anniversary and the landlord took a deposit to secure the booking for the evening of bank holiday Monday 31st May. This was a surprise for my wife. My wife and I had gone shopping around 3 days before we were due to dine, on our arrival home I noticed the answer machine flashing with a new message, I pressed play and found it was the landlord who stated that he would have to cancel the booking as they do not serve in the evening on bank holidays - yet he took the booking?. My wife also overheard it which ruined my surprise. Fuming!!! I then re-book for Thursday 1st June. We arrive and struggle to park. We order, eventually, and then wait 50 minutes for my starter to arrive, some sort of mix up but no explanation. Finally my starter arrived and was very good. The mains followed and no sooner had we started to eat a very noisy lot of people came in and sat around the bar very close to our table and some very loud American woman did not come up for air, she ruined the whole experience and I cannot understand why we were sat there as there were other tables. We did not stay for desert because it was so uncomfortable, we could not hold a conversation ourselves. We were given two free Pepsi’s by means of compensation for the wait. This is not their first cock up either, we took our daughter last year for her 30th birthday. We took birthday banners up prior to our booking and left them with the same landlord to put up for us before we arrived and….you guessed it, he forgot to do it so ruined that as well. Do yourself a favour if your looking for competence - book somewhere else.

Good food , welcoming and friendly atmosphere, been here for lunch and dinner, Sunday lunch is always enjoyable.

We had a Sunday lunch here we all enjoyed it plenty of fresh vegetables dessert were lovely we will come back here , the staff were very pleasant cosy atmosphere

Have been coming here for many years but will be a long time if ever before we will return. Customer service was appalling. Took both my son & myself several attempts over 2 weeks to book. I even emailed them asking for them to phone me to be given a blunt reply stating their opening hours & that was it. If only they would answer the phone & took bookings during these times I would not have needed to have emailed them ! ... Eventually I managed to book & we were all extremely disappointed. Requested 1 take out meal to be told they no longer do this yet we could order an extra meal & plate it up ourself to take out 🙄 The meal was very salty, we had issues with ordering extra Yorkshire, the ice cream was served dripping all over the other dish & the waitresses were not very pleasant & could not wait for us to leave so they could clear the table. The meat was very thin & the veg / mash potatoe was tasteless. My family & I use to love coming to this restaurant but after today we will not be returning again

Don’t get me wrong, the food is actually pretty decent. Such a shame it comes with such absolutely terrible service from seemingly pleasant staff that have been given ridiculous rules to follow and absolutely shocking example set by management. You have to order your food writhing 15 minutes of when the table is booked so god help if any of your party is running late, because they won’t be eating. The staff leer at you until you finish your food like they can’t wait to see the back of you. We were told that one one of the meals would be missing an item because they didn’t have any but when asked what the alternative was the reply was “well, nothing. It just comes without”. There’s absolutely no compromise being made to accommodate guests, you have it how it is the way they tell you to or you go get at all. There a businesses struggling everywhere just to stay open and keep afloat, but I’m afraid if this one doesn’t have a drastic change of direction or leadership, it’s definitely going to be a casualty of the times. The owner should be ashamed of themselves.

Really nice lunch at the Corner House last Sunday, we hadn’t been for a number of years, we will definitely be returning. Thank you to the team for an enjoyable visit, good food great service.

Visited for lunch with my Daughter today, Hospitality was exceptional along with the food not only being a plenty but very tasty can tell it’s fresh and homemade. Highly recommend.

Went for a family outing with a party of seven. We were served by a young gentleman (unfortunately missed his name), who was very helpful and polite. All the food was excellent and the portion sizes were great - even the smalls were enough to fill must of us up. The drinks were also great and food came quickly. Will definitely be visiting again when we're next in the area.

Our table was nicely laid, drinks were very reasonably priced. ALL the main meals were excellent quality, very good value. Just one warning, if you like starters/ desserts and theirs are absolutely delicious I’d recommend one of their “small” plates main as the portions are very generous. From the atmosphere to waiters, food and surroundings was 100% from start to finish. We are now visiting once a week and gradually introducing our friends.

Well what can I say, it’s the first time I’ve been there in years and I have to say all five meals we ordered we exceptional!! Stunning home cooked food and lovely home cooked chips not the frozen rubbish you normally get!!!… mixed in with a nice traditional pub setting it was great. If anything the only issue was is there was too much food. The steak pie was the best I’ve ever tasted and everyone enjoyed their meals. Our waitress was polite and made sure we were well catered for and the gentleman who took our order made a point of fussing my youngest. Will be returning within the next few weeks… but I highly recommend this pub!

Booked via phone and payed a £10 deposit, upon arrival was shown to our table, pub/restaurant was nice and warm on such a cold evening, ordered drinks and starters which were lovely, ordered our main course of which I ordered the 10oz sirloin "medium" when the steak come it was well done over cooked. Toilets nice and clean, prices for drinks and food are good, staff polite. Would I return 🤔 definitely, shame about the steak

I love this pub (excellent food) but there was no ale on tap and the bar redecoration makes it feel like drinking in a council office. It's a cosy trad stonebuilt pub so I don't know why they went with that. Staff are always great!

Firstly for anyone concerned with the ongoing COVID 19 situation, this establishment is fully functioning with all the necessary guidelines in place, exceptionally clean with Hand Sanitizer on entry. Always sure of a meal with quality ingredients, displayed beautifully,& served hot with pleasant, happy & curtious waiting staff. Always a Specials menu which includes some tasty looking steaks. Parking is available along with a good sized beer garden with gazebos Always a great meal, never disappointed, worth booking if travelling to ensure a great table .

Visited the Corner House for a friends get together a very old pub in an historic villiage, , lovely atmosphere and decor, service friendly but very slow, the problem was the food no one complained but I had chicken curry which was absolutely horrible, rice and chips ok but the curry was mostly liquid, I might go there again but definitely no curry for me. It's such a shame as otherwise it's a lovely friendly place in a wonderful setting, I think maybe a menu update.

What can I say, half and half beef/Turkey dont come with a Yorkshire pud,also no roast potatoes, veg o or cooked, are full water, it wasn't just me complaining, there was few commitments on other tables but I guess they now the owners.

Visited 5 times in the last few months and again tonight. Small fish and chips was delicious and great size portion. Waffle and cheesecake also delicious. Fantastic value, perfectly cooked food and the service from the waitresses is warm and friendly. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

What a lovley place, very cosy and relaxed..gorgeous steak & ale pie a must try...would also recommend salmon fillet..

Once a beautiful old Welsh pub in a stunning setting has now been turned into a disgrace serving nothing but frozen food tossed into a microwave and thrown onto a platter. Not a single item in this place is fresh food. The chips were below McCains quality microwaved and disgusting. The beer is lousy and not always available anyway probably due to failure to pay their bills. The owner should be ashamed of himself for what he has done to this once great pub. The locals don't go there anymore, preferring the food at Weatherspoons...if you get the point.

The curry at the corner house is not what it used to be, the chicken was poor quality and the sauce was frankly quite disgusting and defiantly cant be called a curry sauce. But the chocolate fudge cake and custard was very and the hospitality was very nice.

All I can say is bloody marvellous Well done corner house Fab food. Superb staff Very reasonably priced. Portions are huge and I like my grub so perfect for me I'd go there more often if the parking wasn't such a pain.

Passed this Hostelry many a time and at long last decided to stop. Glad that I did. Had a chicken curry for lunch and, without doubt one of the finest I have ever tasted. Quality was superb and quantity could not be faulted. My pal had fish and chips which he said was scrumptious.

Friendly staff the food is amazing and fresh, none of your frozen or microwaved stuff, been there several time now and you should try the fish if you dare it is enormous.

We prebooked a table for two. Was warmly welcomed by the staff and as it was quiet we were given a choice as to where we could sit. We both had prawn salads to start which were not only wonderful but the portion size was impressive. I had the salmon and dauphinois which was wonderful. Cooked beautiful and the flavours complemented one another beautifully, it tasted fantastic. My husband had the mixed grill which he also described as well cooked with a good range of meat and the chips where fantastic. The service given was wonderful. The gentleman behind the bar who I believe to be the owner was lovely and chatty and provided light humour and the lady taking our order was also so warm and friendly. They both asked us if everything was ok with our meal a number of times. The food and service was a cut above. I would strongly recommend and can not wait to visit again. Thanks for a lovely evening.

A busy and welcoming establishment, be patient at busy times, but well worth the wait if you like value for money. Plenty of vegetables, served separately, ideal for the fussy ones in the family..!! I hope they won't mind me stating that it is simple no nonsense food that is consistently good. Parking is available but can get busy. Set in lovely village with historic aspects. Clean toilets..!!

We waited so long for our drinks that we left without them. It would appear that they are more concerned with serving the locals rather than new comers to the area. The meals were poor quality and value. The £17.95 steak was over cooked and tough so altogether disappointing

Ordered a chicken curry half rice and chips when it arrived it was presented nice 2 portions of rice peas curry and a bowl of chips. The plate was cold peas cold the curry was only warm not piping hot chicken was not warm as it should have been. The only thing hot was the chips.we were asked was everything ok we said yes and we did eat it all as we were hungry but we might as well had gone to the local fish shop very disappointed will not go again

Family of six 4 adults and 2 children, the steak, lasagna and gammon all cooked to perfection really enjoyed couldn't fault anything. Great value for money.

After being told they did not open until 12 o’clock, it was 11.45 with a 4 year old we had to leave it was bitter cold outside we went back and sat in the car, had we not arranged to meet others there for 12 we would have gone elsewhere 13/02/20018

We have been coming here for Sunday lunch for a few years now, and are never disappointed.

We went to the Corner House for my birthday lunch last month and everyone enjoyed. Their small eaters menu was very good value and the choice excellent. Their lasagne was a favourite with quite a few of us and the rump steak was a big hit. I would recommend the Corner House it’s a big asset to all the people living locally.

Came here today with friends and we all thouroughly enjoyed our meals. Really friendly staff and food arrived swiftly.

Managed to get a table for lunch today hadn't booked but it was No problem. Ordered 2 adults beef dinners and 2 children's turkey dinner . The food was beautiful . Meet was cooked perfect plenty of veg . Was one of the best Sunday dinners we have had out in a long time . Staff were very friendly and very good with my 2 small children . Will deff be returning good honest home cooked food .

This is my first visit here and I was disappointed from the start. When parking the car, some of the concrete in the carpark had dropped quite a bit in certain places which couldn’t been seen in the dark until the bottom of our car...

Visited with family group of 12 for a sunday lunch which was outstanding with plenty of varied vegetables and efficiently and quickly served. The food cooked to perfection, maybe a small gripe just a choice of 2 meats but we were on second sitting so heigh ho.The Pub/ Restaurant in an iconic village with history with a setting and building to match.

Este fue un lugar de primera hace años, pero una reciente visita ha hecho todas las buenas comidas que tuve aquí un recuerdo lejano. No sé si la clausura de su antiguo rival de la Vieja Casa ha hecho de ellos en la autocomplacencia, pero la comida era para decir lo menos, muy soso, el lugar no estaba tan limpia y punto como lo que solía ser. Personal estamos mal ambiente estaba muerto y la pinta era horrible. Yo calificar este como uno de los mejores de la zona ahora yo creo que MCDONALD'S tiene a escalar por encima de ellos. Es una pena realmente espero que recogen este lugar.

Friendly cosy interesting local pictures and old pictures around. Full of jolly atmosphere. We would have liked to have picked up some tourist leaflets as there was no where else to pick them up from, but they didnt stock any. There would be room in the porch for a little display. (Also the Church, which is why we went to Llangynwyd, was locked)

Didn't book didn't research in any way just passed and decided to try. Deecor smart and in keeping with age of building which must be a couple of hundred years old.Greeted promptly by friendly waitress seated and asked to take drinks order.Wife.. stake buger with chips and peas really well presented should have taken photo. She throughly enjoyed and could not finish. Me gammon stake and chips. Excellent and satisfying. No room for desert and all in and 30 pounds tremendous!

Service from staff was excellent. Was happy with the food and also catered for special diet requirements. Very cosy inside too.

I wrote a review around 6 weeks ago but can't find it on the site. So I will repeat it . The food was disgusting. There was three of us and we all had different meals. All of which were inedible. When we complained we were told that's how they were made. They didn't care. We heard a couple ask for a coffee after their meal at 10 past 9 and they were told that they couldn't have one as last order was 9 o'clock . What a terrible night. Will not be going back.

Booked a table to eat at 6 p.m. Got there at 5.50 p.m. 5 adults and two young children hence the early booking in the pouring rain for my daughters birthday x pub shut xThe owner having knocked on the door for a considerable time eventually turned his bedroom light on but could not even be bothered to let us know that the pub wasn't open until 6pm surely if people book to eat at 6pm you do not expect to turn up ten minutes before and the pub not open x no mention of the opening times when booking was taken . Due to location we were lucky that the taxi driver tried to wake the owner up x thank you corner house for spoiling my daughters birthday x will not be visiting again x at least we found somewhere else at short notice and had excellent meal .

For a pub situated in a remote village to be so busy on a Friday lunchtime shows how popular it is. The homemade food was delicious with huge portions.We had gammon, chicken curry, cod (huge) and a baked potato with beans plus 3 desserts, soft drinks and 1 coffee for about £65. The only unusual part of the meal was the salad garnish - it was very old school coated in some sort of mayo/salad cream. My husband said the peas tasted like they'd just been picked!The service was friendly, helpful and efficient.This pub is a hidden gem and well worth the drive.

This is the second time we have visited this pub and have not been disappointed. Beautiful Sunday lunch, so much choice of vegetables, and to get boiled, roast and mashed potato offered is very unusual. Staff were lovely and friendly. If your looking for a lovely meal, in a relaxed setting this is a must.

I look forward to Sunday lunch. . a great way to end the weekend with fabulous food and great scenary! But how disappointing when I arrived at 'Corner house Inn' ( Fantastic location!) to be greeted with NO menu "only Beef or Turkey" available!!!! Before I could take off my jacket and sit down our plate had arrived! I thought that's not a good sign!!!!! Things got worst. Fast service is not what I expect on a lazy Sunday afternoon but that's what we got. Food dreadful and tasteless! Disappointing! My partner commented he had spent longer at McDonald's drive through!!! . ... than at Corner house Inn!!! We spent less than 20mins ( with drinks !!! )

Fantastic Sunday lunch today. Yummy! We walked here from Cwm Tawel Yurts. The local people made us feel so welcome and were very chatty on Saturday that we booked to go back for Sunday lunch. They even had the football on which made my 8 year old Son very happy and kept him entertained. Thanks again!

Visited the old village of Llangynwyd today and decided to give this country pub a try. The meals (lasagne for me, curry for my friend) were delicious, and generously portioned. Proper home-cut fresh chips, and tasty sides like onion rings and garlic bread. The bill (inc drinks) came in at approx £12 each - great value I thought.The staff were friendly - helpful and efficient without being fake or in-your-face like some places can be. The landlord picked up that we were from Carmarthen and invited us to an evening of cawl and choral music at the pub! We can't attend unfortunately but it was nice to see a business in the historically important village of Llangynwyd doing their bit to support Welsh culture. Great meal and welcome, and would return any time. Highly recommended.

went to the corner house for sunday lunch with the family,last week as it was a special occasion, the meal itself was fine, but the service was a major disaster!! a dark haired woman was serving us, with a big chip on here shoulder, I am from the area, and have moved away, so it was nice to be back and remanise,would def not rush back, or recommend this place, badly need to sort staff out.

This is a local for us but don't have chance to go there as often as we'd like. Lovely homemade food, especially their curries and lasagnes. I've been here approx 4 times over the past year with work colleagues and family and the service has been great, food piping hot in a welcoming country pub. The food is so much better than the old house across the road, which is currently closed. Corner house every time!!

Quaint location just outside Maesteg town. A very old pub with character and charm. Gorgeous food and big portions. Really lovely staff on the day I was there. A great night.

I visited today with my family for evening meal the food was excellent and very good value for money. Great atmosphere, food and pub well worth a visit !

My wife and I had a great Sunday lunch here. Very friendly welcome and well kept beer. The landlady is a breath of fresh air - funny and efficient. Leek and potato soup as a starter came served in a hollowed out bread roll. If I'm honest I shouldn't have ordered it as it was a generous portion and I had a main course to come but my belly won out over my sense! Sunday lunch was a choice of beef or turkey or half'n'half. The beef was full of flavour and so tender. It came with a Yorkshire pudding and a flavoursome roast potatoe. Then the side dishes arrived - mashed potatoes, carrots, peas, swede, cabbage and new potatoes. Plus a huge jug of real gravy. Excellent value, everything was fresh, tasty and you will never go hungry from the portion sizes. We paid less than £16 for two roasts, the soup or dessert is extra. One of the best Sunday lunches we've had anywhere and the views and the village are fantastic too.

Went for a drive and ended up at the corner house inn. We only wanted a light lunch but as they didn't do sandwiches, I had a coffee and my husband half a guiness, but within a couple of minutes they offered to make some sandwiches for us. We appreciated this and were really pleased with them and the price. Would like to visit again for a meal sometime

After reading reviews on TripAdvisor, I must say both me and my partner were disappointed in the Corner House, the welcome was non existent and we were ignored for quite a while when we first entered the pub, in fact it gave me time to look around the bar and restaurant!. We ordered and I had the soup to start, nice touch of being served in a large bread roll but it certainly didn't taste homemade which it states on the menu, it was more like a packet soup with a few bits of fresh leek in it. We both had steaks for main and considering the beef is sourced locally, it was quite tough and to be honest a bit tasteless, the sauces we had to go with the steaks were not homemade and could of come from the supermarket.All in all very disappointing and probably would not go back there again, one good thing was our waitress was friendly and pleasant so thank you to her for that.

Visited this charming pub for Sunday lunch last weekend. We received a very friendly warm welcome on arrival. The waitress that served us was absolutely great. She had a great sense of humour and nothing was too much trouble for her. Our lunch was gorgeous. We came accros this hidden gem. Great food , great views and pet friendly gardens. The weather did help but what a wonderful setting for a leisurely lunch.

We have food here every week, sometimes Sunday lunch sometimes early evening or Saturday lunch.Unlike other places, no frozen fish here fresh and battered on the premises. The Sunday lunch is the best , in the area..........probably anywhere, and we have tried most !!!!. And thick homemade chips, what more can you ask for.

Sunday lunch at The Corner House is something not to be missed. The food is always served quickly and there is always plenty to go round. Hands down nicest home made Yorkshire puddings I've ever tasted. Great value for money too. Wayne the owner is a fantastic host and we will be back again soon. Booking is advisable.

Went for a meal with my wife and we had a great welcome as soon as we entered from a friendly waiter and bar staff. The owner of the pub made you feel welcome and gave great customer service. The food was to a good standard and nice to see real chips. Will definitely go there more often as the place also has a lovely atmosphere. Would advise to book as some where turned away as they were completely booked up.

I visited with my wife and a family friend who is a vegetarian. She thought the menu for her was a tad limited for vegetarians but it wasn't as far as I was concerned. She had an excellent nut roast. This was the third visit for my wife and I over a period of a year. Each time we are impressed with the nice choices on the menu and the quality and value of the food. The portions are more than adequate and there was an offer to replenish if you needed. If you leave this restaurant unsated it won't be their fault. The service was efficient and friendly and extremely customer focused. It was a very wet Monday afternoon and even though they were due to close we were made to feel at ease to place a coffee order. I heartily recommend to my fellow travelling gourmets.

A few friends spent a good evening, complete with a meal.I had the fish and chips, HUGE piece of fish , and the beer batter was great.Will visit again soon

Went for a birthday meal there Friday night 7th November with my girlfriend and parents, (been there on a few occasions) and the food was excellent, lovely starters which was a very generous portion of whitebait followed by 10oz sirloin steak with all the trimmings, plus chargrilled chicken for my girlfriend, it was quality and quantity and not like some of these pretentious places where you pay top money for hardly anything. All their meat is locally sourced with is very good. The staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. We left there feeling very full and very satisfied with the whole evening. We shall return soon.

visited this pub on a very rainy day,both had curry which was lovely.lots of chicken with chips and clean white rice.Very filling and served quickly.nice welcome and service was good.will definately visit again.good value menu and if u like sweets try the strawberry fluff,v sweet but very moreish.

Three of us ate at the Corner House for Saturday lunch. We had two large cod and chips with salad, and one regular lunch size cod and chips. It was fantastic - watch out for the larger size unless you're hungry, as it is a Serious cut of fish! It was very well cooked and came hand cut chunky chips. The staff were really nice and helpful, and the landlord, Wayne, could not have been more interesting on the history of his village. A top man - ask to see Wayne's file of history related articles and pictures. We'll return soon for another lunch!

I go to the corner house very often with family and friends. the food there is very good,reasonably priced, and the staff are very good. nothing is to much trouble for them. must say the beers there are one of the best i have ever drank.
