So disappointed with tonight's experience!!! Food ok . French onion soup done with pickled onions ? Venison off the menu so steak instead! It was cooked well but plates were cold . No pudding menu arrived but both knew we wanted creme brûlée which was cold . Last straw was complementary mulled wine and mince pies were not offered!! Place was empty so can't understand how they ran out. Truly wouldn't mind but no explanation! Then charged for coffee. Not happy. Shame as it was a rare night out.

Thank you to all of the staff at the Corin who hosted our wedding on 21 December! Head Chef Andy and his team presented an exceptional 5 course tasting menu - scallops, smoked duck parfait, pear & elderflower sorbet, venison and deconstructed cheesecake with the most amazing peanut butter ice cream (Andy we really do mean it - you could make your fortune with that ice cream!). And I shouldn't forget the fantastic mince pies... All was paired beautifully with wine chosen with Charlie's expert guidance, including his own special mulled wine blend. The service and organisation was perfect and Erin and her staff pulled out all the stops for us. We had originally booked the Boat House in Bangor and had been disappointed at their closure but everything at the Corrin exceeded our expectations. In fact, the food was even better. A truly exceptional, personal wedding reception with amazing food, wine and service. Good luck to all the team for the future. You will definitely continue to get our custom!

My husband and I always went to the old Corin's and loved it but when we went there in September it was very disappointing. We were served a smoked artichoke and it made the whole meal there after taste like a barbecue and when your meal costs £147.00 it really is a shame. The steaks weren't great either. The starters were lovely though. We wouldn't be in a rush to return.

Corin is just opposite the Post Office and close to the Bangor bus and train station. The restaurant has two entrances, one from the inside of the Ava restaurant in the ground floor of the building and the other off Main Street. Two friends and I went to Corin recently for one of our regular “get-togethers”. What a pleasant surprise…The entrance is unprepossessing, but once upstairs, the place itself it is bright, with wooden tables and chairs. We were met with a cheerful greeting by Charlie, who showed us to a pleasant table by a window table looking out over the busy main street. The food and service were excellent. I had crab claws which were as good as any I have had in Northern Ireland, followed by delicious pan-fried Hake. One of my friends had the scallops which also were very good. I was slow finishing my starter, which did not bother them at all, and served my main course a little later than my friends’ with no fuss, and perfectly cooked. They have an extensive and reasonably priced drinks list and some very pleasant wines on their list. They also have clever Argon-based pumps for the wine, and so are prepared to serve virtually anything on the wine list by the glass. To paraphrase Charlie: “If it has a cork you can have it by the glass”. I tried the Rhone “Chateau Juvenal”, which was very good. The desserts were also excellent and we finished with some great coffee. This is an excellent restaurant, with fine and unfussy service, very good, and reasonably priced food. We will definitely be back.

Visited Corin for a pre Christmas lunch with family as some are away on the big day. Having been to the previous incarnation there was plenty expectation of a lovely lunch with great service. Unfortunately this wasn't quite delivered. Food was fine, not great, and not what you would expect for the price. I understand the wish to be edgey and deconstruct food but some of what was delivered could have done with being rebuilt in the kitchen before serving. On the whole, however, it was pretty good. Service was a different story. As one of the only tables, and no pressure on staff we felt ignored, having to wave or shout for the only staff member to provide extra bottles of wine, desert menus etc. I can think of many bars that would be embarrassed by this never mind a 'high end' restaurant. What topped the off was having to remind/argue with the manageress that some of us were on the set menu with their much lauded mince pies and mulled wine. Having spent c. £50 per head at lunch to then have to challenge this, and a big deal being made to exclude 2 diners is ludicrous to me and speaks volumes. Note to staff: Mulled wine is typically warm-hot, not luke warm-cold.All in all not great. The food wasn't bad but let down on every other front. Service would have been poor if busy but with no other customers was dire. The fit out would also benefit from some softening to make less clinical and soak sound transfer. Having previously raved about it I wouldn't return for at least 6 months by which stage i'd like to think old Corin might have started to shine through.

The fish is amazing every time I have had it & my husband who is a carnivore loves all the menu. They are very happy to help with dietary needs or just preferences which is great if you have specific tastes as myself.I fully admit to being fussy about eating out as I only eat fish or vegetarian, it's important to get good food. Two ideas for owners1) New Fab Chairs2) Do up the bathroomsWell done great restaurant & love eating at Corin

We visited Corin on mainstreet for the festive a la carte menu with our young grand-daughter. Lovely choice of starters, mains and desserts for the adults and good selection of dishes for our younger diner. Deciding to skip a starter we had the traditional turkey and ham with all the trimmings which was piping hot and absolutely delicious. The ham hock grubeen, which I have never had before, was packed with flavour and was a lovely change from the usual slice of ham dished up as standard with Christmas fare. Our grand-daughter had the children's tomato pasta, which was a sizeable portion, followed by ice cream. The pear and apple crumble with brandy cream and cranberry granola, like all that had gone before, was excellent. From the moment we arrived until we left, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the service was attentive without being intrusive. The food was superb and the final bill very reasonable. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will certainly be back. Thank you.

...and not in a good way. I wish to do two reviews here one on the food and another on the other elements which go in making a dining experience enjoyable and positively memorable.Menu choice was extremely limited which sometimes means it is the very best of what the cooks do and they will give 100% attention because they have so little to work on. The meals we choose came well presented, cooked well and had good balanced flavor. My better half started with the goats cheese and beetroot whilst I the scallops both of us had venison as a main, the starters I cant fault the venison although tender and juicy failed to be beyond acceptable as it lacked any game notes and the shallots had not been seasoned. It was very early in the evening so the dauphin potatoes where just about there and had the strong flavor of the garlic as it had yet to mellow and melt.Service was swift enough and friendly, as the room was practically empty the pre-service conversation of the arriving serving staff between each other was clear for us to share in even over the rooms choice of background music.£70 two course and a very modest wine. This would be an acceptable tariff if the other elements of the experience of dining out came anywhere near the food. They did not.A review of two stars is fair here. If it was the food alone it may have squeaked a four, just. But if the food was less than it was, a one would star would have been generous. This is a far far cry from what the old Corin was. It was a diner party for paying guests, you felt like you had arrived at a friends house for the night and didnt care what the bill looked like at the end of the night. The first thing to greet you here was two tired and tore chairs around a sort of leftover table downstairs in what I can only assume is a sort of waiting area. Climb the stairs and oh dear its Christmas time in November, okay, move on past the attempt of decoration and avoid (god help me) the suspended Christmas baubles from the timber ceiling. One wall of the restaurant is covered in timber shingle like you would find atop a log cabin with what for some reason has a miniature golden stags head upon it, bizarre. Our table is best described as the gable end to the left overs of a shed. The floor bounced as staff would pass by on route to serve and you had the distinct feeling of being at sea, but the chairs take the biscuit. You are NOT wanting to sit in these for two hours, no padding, no style and no comfort. There are obvious issues with the toilets both male and female. My wife is not a complainer unlike me and even she spoke on the smell, dead flowers and lack of loo roll, my trip was greeted with the smell that goes with a severe lack of ventilation and some plumbing concerns. Not a trip I wanted to make more than once. This is a pity, I wanted to love Corin once more but cant.

My friend ordered Chardonnay which was fizzing. The waitress explained they had a special needle which was inserted into cork to keep wine fresh as it was special wine. She refused it and got a glass of red. I asked if the food could be served quickly as two of us had been ill and were freezing. It wasn't that quick but was good when it arrived. With hindsite we should have walked out but one lady from Belfast really wanted to try. Could someone not have gone out for a couple of heaters??? My friend and I didn't get heat into us until. Ext day and in fact I think I got a chill. The bill came to £35. Dearest lunch I've ever had. In fairness they took all the wine off the bill bringing it down to £25. Much better.

We went in August,a group of four.We had booked weeks in advance. When we arrived upstairs,at least three staff members passed us by without acknowledgement. Finally a gruff guy asked "Are yous booked?" (Not even a hello)seemed to have trouble locating booking as he turned back on us tutting, then finally grabbed a few settings from one table to another,we were then told to"Grab a seat there we'll get you menus in a minute" after this things did improve, our food was good, and we were looking forward to desserts, but alas after our plates were cleared away....tumbleweeds! noone asked if we'd like to see a sweet menu or drinks/coffee,which given the place was relatively new was a bit surprising. So after half an hour of waiting and hoping we gave up, finally located a member of staff to get our bill, which we left on the table as nobody came back to collect it.On our way out there were at least three staff members behind the bar including Mr.Gruff, not one turned to say goodbye, my friend said loudly " we're the four invisible customers, cheerio!"nothing! We did bump into another staff member on the stairs on the way out and told him of our disappointment.(we'd been so looking forward to trying it).I will be sticking to Ava downstairs in future, much better reception, food, atmosphere and excellent efficient staff.Maybe Corin out front staff should watch and learn.

Since the move down from High St I fear the restaurant has gone downhill. At 8.30 pm on a wet Wednesday evening we were shown to a small corner table with view of a wall and under a loudspeaker ( presumably awaiting an avalanche of 4s to the other tables). It's the little things that matter - candle left unlit, wrong wine and after first courses served, and noisy clumsy waitress. At least the food was good and attractively presented, but the former flair and imagination from the High St seems to have gone. Maybe this will settle down better, but please don't treat a deuce like that again.

Main had pork belly which I didn't finish. Others had mixture of dishes. One was the fish which was so salty it wasn't finished. Decent bottle of wine such as Pino Grigio £26. Too expensive for a Bangor restaurant. Given the price is comparable to restaurant such as OX, it has to do better. Bar is a great but unfortunately it doesn't fit with the restaurant as a venue to have a drink afterwards. Staff drinking in the bar after restaurant service isn't something that's usual.

A special birthday night out at Corin left us feeling totally underwhelmed. OK the room is a big improvement on the old restaurant but the food and wine didn't impress! Our starters were chicken parfait - fine but the crab salad was just not good! Crab, avocado, tomato, grapefruit, topped off with, I kid you not, a large wedge of lemon. The watery substance in the bottom of the serving glass was most off putting. On to main course- the thin cut rib eye steak was just all right, served on a bed of oven dried tomatoes, suggestion of spinach and a few roast baby potatoes 5/10 at most. Brill on a stodgy risotto in some sort of serving dish which my son was expected to eat from again 5/10.We opted for the cheese to follow. An uninspiring selection, freezing cold and no indication of what they were. We were grandly offered a complimentary glass of wine to accompany this. Having spent some nearly £20 on 2 gin and tonics, £16 on 2 glasses of average white and £50 on a 'special' bottle of not so special tasting Barolo (not on the wine list) we were beginning to feel like we had been taken for a ride.Service was friendly though way, way to fast and not once were we asked if everything was to our satisfaction. As an ex chef and front of house, I would say the food lacks flair and judgement and the service is a blend of pretentious sommelier and ill timed table service skills. Wish we had spent £160 at a far superior nearby restaurant closer to home!!!

The food was simply amazing. The starter of Irish Boile Goats Cheese Bonbons withhoneycomb crumb, red pepper marmalade, aioli and leaves was just perfection. Wonderful tastes! The main of Roast Squash Open Ravioli was equally devine and the dessert of Tarte Tatin with Cinnamon Ice-Cream was the most pleasant dessert I've ever tasted.I could not recommend Corin more highly. I would be sceptical of any negative reviews. Corin is something very special and is reasonably priced for such a unique and wonderful experience.

We liked the room itself and found the staff to be very friendly if a little wobbly at times. Food was not good and was just lacking. Their mussel popcorn dish is just plain bizarre. Where does the bread need to fit in? Why does it need to be there? All our dishes were nothing short of bizarre to the four of us. Small or large proportions aside, it wasn't good. Few comments about the wine by other members and we'd have to agree. Having blah blah blah bottles under £20 is irrelevant. It's too dear. Simply too dear. Wine list needs addressed. Overall, it's trying to be Swan Lake and it's merely a paddling pool rubber duck

It didn't take long before the new Corin got a little defensive over partly or wholly negative reviews, did it? Ouch! We eat out a lot and we tried the new incarnation of Corin and we genuinely didn't like it. It's trying to be something it isn't.. Small plates and large plates are nothing new and the Spanish call it Tapas. Simply Tapas. Nothing else, but Tapas. Doesn't matter what style of food it is, it's Tapas. Plain and simple Tapas. It's not groundbreaking for NI, it's Tapas. Have to agree the wine list is exorbitant, but on a positive note, on our visit the service was quite good, Friendly staff if a little nervous. Not enough to bring us back though.

Food very good, perfect execution, could not fault. Service also very good although one waitress somewhat aloof! Sommelier guy super friendly & offered a great recommendation.Couple of minor criticisms;Coffee way too strong & bitter, couldn't drink it (and I like strong coffee and normally drink it black). No petit fours?? When visited at previous premises on High Street I'm sure we were served petit fours, sadly we didn't get any this time.Lastly it was so noisy we couldn't hear ourselves speak. Think the problem is too much wood / hard surfaces everywhere.Minor criticisms which hopefully could be easily addressed. All in all an enjoyable evening had.

As is often the case on Tripadvisor, when somewhere has very few reviews and it's taken a bit of a bashing twice in a row, up pops a first time reviewer with a blatantly obvious suspiciously gushing one. That's what's seemingly happened over the last few reviews of Corin. Are people that stupid? We've tried Corin on Main Street a few times now in the hope it would improve after teething troubles when it first opened. It hasn't. The menu is disjointed and really doesn't know where it wants to sit in the scheme of things. Every continent on the planet seems to have an influence on the menu. Ćevapčići from the Balkans, Koftas from Morocco, chicken from Mexico, curry from Indonesia, Rice from Italy, cauliflower from Louisiana, a Vindaloo from Goa, need I go on...? On the whole and from all the dishes we have managed to try, none of them hit the brief, which was a real shame and it has stopped us wanting to go back. In fact. we won't be going back. What put the icing on the cake for us not wanting to go back was the wine list. It's far from good value for money and the markups on the bottles are just plain rude. The fact (as we were told twice) that no one else has these wines on their lists in the 'whole island of Ireland' is irrelevant to me and anyone that is impressed by this really shouldn't be allowed out. When it comes to wine, I want a good selection, I want a certain amount of familiarity and I want fair and reasonable pricing. This isn't the case here.Service was ok, but it's not enough to get me back. Staff need more training and they need to learn how to smile a bit more.A real shame, as the original Corin on High Street was a cracker of a restaurant and was in a totally different league compared to its new incarnation on Main Street.

My mother and I have eaten at Corin several times and this is our first time at the new location. I live in San Francisco and have travelled the world extensively and have eaten at the BEST restaurants, including Michelin star ones and thrilled that Bangor has such a place to dine, delicious food, great wine list and to respond to the commentators on the price of wine at Asda compared to Corin, any sophisticated diner understands that a great restaurant makes its overhead from alcohol and cannot serve wine at supermarket prices! The best Tart Tartin I have ever had! Great restaurants to not plonk piles of food on a plate, a great dining experience is about delicious small mouthfuls! My mother and I love this restaurant and with the service we receive give it five stars. THANKFUL Bangor has a sophisticated restaurant

Today I visited Corin on Main Street for my lunch with friend and I must say I was extremely happy with the service I received. The food was to die for, I had the special of lobster & chorizo soup with pan fried cod and lobster tail topped with Parmesan crisp and edible flowers. It was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. I look forward to returning next weekend to try the A La Carte menu.

Was really looking forward to trying new restraurant as we had been previously when it was in High Street - we had prebooked table but were shown to table by the kitchen with hit plates blazing away to say i was uncomfortable with the heat was an understatement. We were looking forward to trying a few "small plates" as advertised online but when we asked about them we were told sorry they are not on Friday/Saturday nights only A La Carte menu! When looking at SMALL selection of around 5 starters our waitress then informed us 2 of them were not on menu - not good for 6.30pm on a Friday!! Anyway we made our selection - my husband chosing fish dish with CHAMP & I chose whole lobster. Whole lobster more like large languistine & very little eating in it. Fish dish came with mash. When we said to waitress about champ she went to kitchen - when she returned she did apologise stating chef said they had run out of scallions (really early on a Friday evening!!) It would have been better to have been told this BEFORE meal came down so my husband could have made a different choice - fish + mash very bland. First time I have come away from spending over £60 & left hungry. All-in-all the meal very disappointing surroundings nothing special after all the 'hype' - will probably not be back & certainly would not recommend for a fine dining experience!

Like other reviewers, we had been regulars at the previous version of Corin in High Street. However, we felt that standards had slipped and had stopped eating there before it folded. We were keen to try the latest version, but were not encouraged by the new website, which makes it clear that they have abandoned the "fine dining" aspirations. Having dined there last weekend, it seems that we were right. On first impressions, the place is really nicely decorated, and the staff are pleasant, but mostly very young, and seemingly not very experienced or well trained. On arrival, we were just directed in the general direction of some empty tables and invited to seat ourselves where we wanted. Having done that and been given menus, we were told about specials that were listed on a large portable blackboard but which we couldn't see until 2 other diners had placed their orders. One of waitresses then appeared and asked "Yiz ready to order?". After this introduction, it was a relief that the food was as good as it was but, as others on here have said, it's not in the same league as the old Corin in its brief heyday. For example, as a starter, I had the lobster & crab crumble, which had plenty of meat in it, but I'm not sure that the breadcrumb (?) topping added much to it. As a main - though Corin call it "large plate" - I had Mexican chicken with chipotle mayo. That was quite good, though the mayo wasn't really necessary & argued with the sauce already on the chicken. In summary, the food here is just good quality pub grub now, and priced accordingly. The drinks list is quite extensive, and not overpriced. All in all, it's all about personal tastes and, so long as you're not expecting anything exceptional, you won't be disappointed. In future, we'll just stick to The Boathouse (until they close) and The Wheathill, or go to Belfast.

I visited Corin in their new location beside The Ava Main Street Bangor. The menu is presented as a list of choices of either small or large plates. Four of us chose 8 small plates to share so more like tapas than traditional set format meal. Really tasty with mixture of meat, fish, seafood and vegetarian dishes. Spanish Cod stew, Broccoli Fritter, and Popcorn Mussels were the favourites with us. We shared the 3 desserts Panna Cotta with Coconut Jelly, Strawberry Cheesecake and Chocolate Fudge with ice cream and chocolate sauce. I recommend this place highly but not if you want a prawn cocktail, steak and chips night out.

The visits in March sadly left me wondering if I could return at all . The front of house were their normal professional selves but the food had dropped in standard and lacked any seasoning whatsoever . I will leave the review at that . Changes afoot and moving to the Ava it seems . Has Corin lost its identify that it took time to build ? Only time will tell .

After a hour or so people did arrive but there was us both a table of 4 and table of 6 that was it all night! The food was fine, but nothing to write home about we had the two course start and main course!! Yes it does offer loads of choice if following gluten free diet which is good but food was boring and flavourless very disappointed to be honest!! We eat out once a week and I won't be back again to try it!! They say it's fine dinning yes it looks like fine dinning but doesn't taste like it!! We love cruising and enjoy fine dinning but i think this is fine dinning done the cheap way! Sorry wasn't impressed and wont be back ever again!! Customer service was alright but no atmosphere in the place at all! I personally think it's over priced for the limited menu on offer and price.

Unfortunately I have to add my name to the string of recent poor reviews. I have only been a few times but it was amazing on both previous occasions, the last being over a year ago. So this trip turned out to be a disappointing experience and unfortunately I feel this was NOT just a one off but a complete departure from the the type of restaurant it used to be. Had I done my homework I probably would have gone elsewhere. As always the owner was very nice and welcoming. He was doing the floor when we arrived and told us, while being seated, that the style had changed from fine dining to french bistro i.e. reset your expectations! This would have been an acceptable change if some of previous quality and kitchen creativity and attention to detail had been maintained. We started with a bottle of red which was chosen for us by the wine waiter - It turned out to be a £30 pound croze hermitage shiraz. I feel he should have done a better job of describing the menu. He allowed us to taste one wine which we were not keen on and then sold us a 30 pound bottle of french shiraz. Boom. Job done! We were told to avoid the cocktails as they were very strong! interesting. The amuse bouche was good so it all looked promising. Then the starter came and the new "french bistro" style became evident. We had duck, salmon and brie for starter. The Spicy Duck was immediately disappointing from an aesthethic perspective. A dead slab of cold shredded duck on some couscous served with the same duck in a small deep fried springroll (is that french bistro?!) It was served with some thick pink coulis which was destroyed by too much vinegar (I could not help feeling the meat was no prepared on site but I may be completely wrong as it did not look or taste fresh) It was replaced by the owner who was very surprised to hear we did not like it (have you tried it?) He was very accomodating and went out of his way to replace it with the salmon starter. Unfortunately the salmon was nothing special and again the overriding flavour was of squeezed lemon - careless attention to flavour. It came with blue cheese dollops of sauce and some melba wheaten toast (kind of burnt). The melted brie wrapped in prosciutto was served with fig relish and some brioche toast. It could have been a good dish it had been warm - the melted cheese was cold. The main courses were a better experience, thankfully. I went for some flat iron steak which had a 7 pound supplement (which was a unfairly expensive I believe as it is not the most expenive cut - a 10oz can be bought online for £3.50) It was nicely cooked med-rare and came as I requested with perfectly cooked freshly cooked golden skinny fries. I asked for Bernaise and it came on the side but was cold. The taste was very good but it was cold!!! We also had the beef cheek which had a nice texture but not much jus (it was crying out for a rich red gravy) It was served with beetroot dauphinoise (why do that!) which had good flavour but did not look so appealling - to me it looked as if the blood from a blue steak had been absorbed by it! It was served with deep fried Kale which was strange but ok but again the flavour was overpowered by the use of too much vinegar. We chose to share a cherry clafoutis which again was disappointing. The presentation was nice and it came in a small pan that it was cooked in served with a rich cherry coulis and vanilla ice cream on a biscuit crumb. Unfortunately it was cooked and puffy on the outside but the middle had dropped and was not cooked properly giving a rubbery texture. The soaked cherries had good flavour and the cherry coulis was nice. In summary my expectations may have been too high but regardless of it shifting down a gear the whole thing needed far better execution and perhaps better ingredients. I really hope the old Corin (or some of it, at least - the attention to detail, good cooking and quality produce) can make a comeback.....along with the expertise and craftsmanship of it's fine patron.

We had the Smoked Eel & Roasted Partridge for starters which was like something out of Masterchef. Then to get a small glass or sorbet to cleanse the pallet before our main course was perfectly timed..!!! We then had the Venison & Moroccan Gratin for main course which was out of this world so much so that after we finished a couple arrived & we suggested to them both the wine & venison which they ordered & were just as impressed as we were considering it was their first time in Corin aswell. We managed to fit in the dessert of salted caramel tart & the Corin trio & they were delicious..I complimented the chefs as we were leaving &.cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough..more people need to experience this hidden gem that is right on their doorsteps and saves you driving into Belfast...!! *****
